Mapuches_on_Fire

“The monarchy sends their regards.” *stabs Ford*

GoodOlRoll

"D'oh!"

KingFahad360

Mr. Ford? Uh yes? Her Majesty’s send their regards. *shotgun blast* This is a reference to Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven

Fixner_Blount

Quintenen and tarantined by Writtin Directino

Zhelkas1

Fun fact: Ford's birth name was Leslie Lynch King, Jr. So in a sense, this is a picture of a Queen dancing with a King.

sbstndrks

Nah. This is Lizzie and Leslie

KingFahad360

For Shizzle

WhyGuy500

Why was it changed?

Zhelkas1

I believe his mother remarried and he was renamed after his stepfather.

Smooth-Apartment-856

I wonder what George Washington would think if he found out the Bicentennial would be celebrated by the President and the Queen dancing?

ToddPundley

Wasn’t his administration fairly pro-rapprochement with the UK? Now Jefferson would have been very hostile to this though.

Hellolaoshi

I imagine that King George III would have been absolutely FURIOUS!

ToddPundley

Especially if Ford tried cutting the rug with that stately oak he had been chatting up

HearTheBluesACalling

They’re independent of each other, but have a strong relationship and well-established trade. Sounds like the best-case scenario!

gadget850

I saw her when she visited Charlottesville then.

notimeleft4you

Speaking as a millennial, was the bicentennial actually a big deal? I thought it was just an excuse to make a special edition quarter which you’re supposed to collect in a cup on your desk that you feel guilty about for robbing when you need laundry quarters. Or is that just me?

Jolly_Job_9852

Well if you and I are lucky we'll live to see the Tri-centennial of America. I'm hoping that's a huge deal. We'll also see the 250th anniversary of Independence in two years and while that may not be as huge, it'll be an event to be remembered. Speaking as a Gen Z, the Bicentennial was huge. Commemorative plates and glassware was released, celebrations and TV stars like Lawrence Welk played tribute.

BaltimoreBadger23

The celebration level and tone for the 250th depends on if we vote to preserve or reject democracy and actual freedom in November.

cragelra

Lol I'm assuming you mean Gen X?

Jolly_Job_9852

No, im a Gen z, but hearing from my parents and others who lived through it, the event was massive.

BaltimoreBadger23

Gen X vaguely remembers the bicentennial if at all.

cragelra

Right I just thought it was strange that they said "speaking as a Gen Z"

LarsThorwald

I was six on July 4, 1776, and very much Gen X. I remember there were tall ships in Norfolk, VA, but that’s about all. Star Wars came out less than a year later. You can bet I remember that, though.

BaltimoreBadger23

You are 254 years old?

LarsThorwald

Hahah. 1976.

DunkinRadio

Yes, it was a big deal.

bleu_waffl3s

Those tall ships really lifted the nations spirit after watergate

cappotto-marrone

Yes. It was a big deal. I remember on TV, forget which station, different actors and public figures reading a part on the Declaration of Independence over multiple nights. The tall ships. Lots of lessons in high school.

SSBN641B

It was a really big deal. Non-stop references to it in the media, celebrations all over the country.

obama69420duck

My mom got two birth certificates for being born that year!

Allatura19

Never seen this before. Kinda badass.

waterissotasty45

Imagine if Thomas Jeffreson saw this

ninsklog

That is correct 🗿

KingFahad360

Dude I legit though this was a scene from Boardwalk Empire

BigMeatyClaws_69

I missed this episode of Frasier

Cetophile

At least in this case the President's tuxedo fit. He infamously met Emperor Hirohito in a father-of-the-bride getup with pants that were about 4 inches too short. On the plus side, he was not known to have barfed into the Japanese PM's lap.

BaltimoreBadger23

I'm glad they got over it.

AHDarling

Fun Fact: Queen Elizabeth and Marilyn Monroe were both born in 1926, less than two months apart. https://preview.redd.it/wqmsc7gro69d1.jpeg?width=1040&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40ef53a5dfa0325200044d0d540f2017ab7c4760

BloodyRightToe

How about us two unelected leaders get out of here.

Weird thing for England to celebrate.
