I think you have enough now that you could start consolidating and upgrading, keeping in mind that watch collecting should come after you have funded your finical goals (bills, savings, retirement, etc.). You could take 3-4 of the watches you don’t wear as often, sell them, and get one replacement watch that is a level or so above the ones you sold.

FaisalOji

I like your advice. My original idea was to keep collecting and saving old ones as a treasure for my future self. What do you think of that.

InterestingOrange336

My personal opinion is that unless you have a lot of disposable income, watch collecting should be done in moderation and self-funding to the extent that it can be. Save special pieces (your first one, gifts etc.) and unload the rest. As you get better pieces you’ll have a harder time looking at very entry level watches the same (in my experience). You may not get much for budget pieces, but if you sold 4 and got $250 thats actually enough to get you Certina, Glycine, or a decent microbrand.

FaisalOji

I comprehend the situation, however, I still hold a deep fondness for the watches, akin to the emotions I experienced when I first acquired them. It may be a personal idiosyncrasy, but whenever I gaze upon them, a sense of nostalgia washes over me. Regarding the financial aspect, I must clarify that I am not affluent by any means. I admit to having a propensity for impulsive purchases, often clicking the "buy" button without due consideration. I acknowledge that this is a detrimental habit. Initially, my motivation for acquiring numerous watches was to fill the watch box, which is now complete. Consequently, I intend to exercise restraint in future purchases.

InterestingOrange336

Well then by all means keep them as long as you enjoy them!

FaisalOji

Thank you very much for your time. I have a question for you. What was the first watch that you owned, and what happened to it?

InterestingOrange336

Ever? No idea. I’m sure I had a kids watch at one point but who knows. Later in my 20s I recall having a Fossil or two. My ex-wife bought me a Movado which I sold immediately after the divorce, and good riddance to both. During the pandemic I found watches again and started slow with Timex, Rotary, and a few budget Swiss models. Those have all been sold for upgrading.

FaisalOji

Oh, it looks like you were shifting through a lot of things in your life. What I meant to ask was, what was the first watch that you bought with your own hard-earned money? 💸 On the other hand, was the Movado watch not to your liking, or did you just sell it to get rid of it? 🤷‍♂️

InterestingOrange336

For the Movado I thought the brand was luxurious at the time and representative of fine watchmaking. After the divorce I went through a period of wanting to remove everything from my life that was from my ex or related to her. I was tying to bury that life and start a new one. Now I know that Movado is not great, but even if it had been a Patek I would have sold it. During Covid when I discovered Nico and got into watches I think I started with a Timex Weekender. I ended up with a couple Timex watches, a quartz Alpina Startimer, a Glycine Airpilot, Rotary Avenger, and a Sieko chronograph, all under $150. All of those were eventually sold as i consolidated and upgraded.

KCDawgTime

Great collection. You have a lot of fun, interesting pieces and I love the fact that it doesn’t look like everyone else’s. If certain watches don’t make you happy when you look at them, then sure, trade/sell/etc. to get something that does. That said, if you still like your watches and you’re having a good time looking at/wearing them, then keep them. I don’t sell my watches. They all have memories attached and all I have to do is put the watch on, and the memories come flooding back. Do what makes YOU happy rather than listening to some rando on Reddit.

FaisalOji

Thank you very much for your kind words. I am very fond of my watches and have no intention of selling them. Wearing my watches brings back fond memories and gives me a sense of pride. However, I find it intriguing to hear the opinions of others. I genuinely enjoy considering viewpoints that differ from my own.

DarrellCartrip

How do you like the Bulova Curv? It is so outside of what I normally wear, but I have always liked the way it looks.

FaisalOji

I am currently wearing it. It has a unique, fashionable, and minimalist design that is sure to attract attention. I would like to know your thoughts on it.

DarrellCartrip

I think the design is eye catching and really like the integrated bracelet with the cutouts. I am just not a huge chronograph guy and at 44mm it is right at my this is too big point. They make a square version in gold and I will have a hard time saying no if they release it in silver.

FaisalOji

It is definitely big. I just got it today, so I am enjoying it as much as I can. P.S. Which watch do you like the most in my collection.

jeffrx

It’s a matter of personal preference. If I were you, I’d be more inclined to have 1-2 high-quality watches on the Tudor level, which you ciiid have done with the money you’ve probably spent. But. If you’re the kind of guy who needs lots of variety and options, you’ve done well. Wear them in good health!

FaisalOji

Thank you. I do enjoy a great deal of variety; wearing the same thing all the time bores me. It is indeed a matter of personal preference. Most people would not purchase as many watches as I have. They would be content with one or two watches. I, on the other hand, prefer variety.

johneracer

We were all there and sometimes there is an urge to just build a collection quickly. Quantity over quality. I had my share of Casios, armitrons, citizens etc but once you start buying better quality there is no going back. My first real watch was omega bond and at that moment I “got” it. Omega oozed quality in details, polish, machined bracelet. I ended up getting rid of everything and slowly buying better watches. Doxa, marathon, Hamilton, fortis (surprisingly nice watch for money) then a Rolex then another omega planet ocean.

FaisalOji

It's true I do like quality watches like Omega, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Hamilton, etc. As much as I like them, I don't have the financial means to get any of them. I started collecting Chinese watches and gradually made my way up to Citizen PRX and Seiko watches. I played within my budget while still enjoying the different types of watch horology that watches have to offer, such as perpetual calendars, chronographs, automatics, quartz, triple calendars, etc. It's not like I prefer quantity over quality; I like both. I simply enjoy what different watches have to offer, and if I like a watch, I buy it.

johneracer

Then have at it. Have fun and enjoy the hobby. But don’t focus on filling up the empty slots, you usually just fill them up with junk just so that it’s full. Better a used older quartz omega than new xyz unknown brand in my opinion.

FaisalOji

Certainly, I am exercising restraint at this time. I will refrain from purchasing additional watches until my budget permits. Currently, my focus is on researching and identifying reputable watch brands, such as Omega or Breitling. I am particularly drawn to the aesthetic appeal of the Breitling Navitimer.

redditleowel

You earned every one of them fairly gj mate!

FaisalOji

Thank you very much. I do have one question for you. What was the first watch that you purchased with your own funds?

redditleowel

A silver digital casio square watch :)

Dani2067

Keep having fun, nice collection!

FaisalOji

Thanks man !

Efficient-Emphasis-1

Great watches.. I love that prx I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a quartz one. I have that same casio .... I get so much attention I had to take it off.

FaisalOji

Haha, it sure is an eye-catcher. Good luck with the PRX, it's a beautiful watch. The gold color is pleasing to the eye.

dan96max

I can appreciate that you went for some unique dials. I do that too. Regardless of price, there’s some stuff out there that’s just weird and interesting and it’s cool to own it. What’s the white one with all the numbers on it? Third one on the bottom.

FaisalOji

This watch has an intriguing backstory. To be honest, it is an eight-dollar watch, but it is certainly worth more considering its style and construction. I purchased it for sixty-five dollars. I came across this watch on eBay and found it interesting enough to add to my collection. It was listed as a generic watch without a brand name. However, when I received the watch and searched for its brand online, I was surprised to find it priced at only eight dollars on AliExpress. I promptly contacted the seller on eBay to request a refund. He was quite hesitant and provided excuses, claiming that he had purchased it for a much higher price. After some discussion and presenting evidence that it only cost eight dollars, he agreed to issue a refund. Ultimately, I decided to keep the watch and paid him twenty-five dollars to avoid the hassle of returning it and repurchasing it, along with the additional waiting time. If you are interested, it is called the Paidui watch. You can search for it on AliExpress, and you will find it.

dan96max

Thanks for the info! I ordered both the black and white. Not expecting much for $8 but something unique to look at.

TryHelping

The staeur and sugess tell me you have good taste

FaisalOji

Thanks, man. They are definitely head-turning watches.

surfer451

I don’t care whether you make $26k or $260k a year… Citizen makes a damn fine watch.

FaisalOji

Indeed, I am quite impressed with the quality of Citizen watches. They offer remarkable timepieces at an accessible price point. Unfortunately, their widespread affordability has led to a diminished sense of exclusivity, which some individuals may perceive as a negative aspect.

ThisCharmingMan_8D

That Cuervo & Sobrinos you have there is a bit of a jewel, my friend. Your collection is looking good!

FaisalOji

I must say, I am quite impressed with your keen observation. This particular timepiece holds a unique position within my collection, being the most valuable acquisition. The financial investment required to obtain it was substantial, representing several months of my salary. Consequently, I have chosen to preserve it as a collector's item, as it is no longer available for purchase online or through any other channels.

RadiantKandra

I’m sure you could find a job that pays more than minimum wage, that’s actually pretty rare in the US these days. Believe in yourself !

FaisalOji

Thank you for your kind words. I am somewhat of an introvert, which makes it challenging for me to approach people.

asapbejko

that tissot prx is one month min wage where im from 😂

FaisalOji

😅 You will get there, my friend. 😊 You will get there.

TimsChineseFood

We got very similar taste in watch style/ preferences... You must be a stand up guy. Who makes the winder box? Just picked up 2 seiko 5's and need one

FaisalOji

Thank you for your response. I am pleased to hear that. I purchased the watch winder from eBay for $44.00. This was the most economical option I could find for a four-watch winder. Comparatively, you can find significantly lower prices on Temu if you are interested.

Zeratul277

The red Seiko is awesome.

FaisalOji

Thanks. It attracts a lot of women by the way 😅

blueonion88

👍👍🔥

FaisalOji

Thanks man.

1Pac2Pac3Pac5

If you're truly a minimum wager then you might need to put your money to higher priority things than all these low end watches. With the exception of the gold prx and maybe the citizen diver lower right that looks like a lot of wasted wages.

FaisalOji

It is true that I have spent a considerable amount of money on these watches. For me, watch collecting is a hobby that I genuinely enjoy and find fulfilling. While they may be considered low-end, each watch holds its own unique charm. I understand your concern about saving money rather than spending it on watches, especially considering my minimum wage income. Initially, my intention was to fill the watch box, and while it may seem like a waste of wages, I believe that this logic can be applied to many other things. For instance, one could argue that buying Starbucks coffee, going out to parties, or purchasing cars, clothes, or shoes is also a waste of money. However, in the case of my watches, I see them as a future investment for my future self. They are something that I cherish and hold dear, and I have no intention of selling or giving them away. Thank you for sharing your perspective with me.

-l-Shadow-l-

Keep the Tissot, sell everything else.

FaisalOji

The Tissot watch is of high quality. However, the other watches are also of good quality in their own right. I do not intend to sell any of them, as it feels good to have so many watches, each with its own nostalgic significance.

-l-Shadow-l-

Understood but you asked for my guidance so I told you what I would do with your current collection 👍

Big-Head_Small-eyes

I much rather have 2 or 3 solid watches than all that trash. But I can’t blame you, delayed gratification is not easy for everyone

ThisIsREM

Trash? There are some amazing watches there, Sugess has incredible complications and an aventurine dial as an example. Much better than almost anything in the 1-3k price range.

FaisalOji

Indeed, for its price range, it is a beautiful and mechanically complex watch. I have heard that it is a sister company of Seagull, which also produces high-quality watches at affordable prices.

FaisalOji

I somewhat agree with your point. If you look at it logically, delayed gratification might be something everybody should strive for. But I have a different philosophy. I think you should enjoy your life as you progress through life. Live your dreams. Buy the things you want to buy. Live the way you want to live. Nobody knows the future. I miss my childhood days more than anything. The things I enjoyed back then don't pique my interest anymore. It doesn't mean you have to spend all your money and time wastefully, and it certainly doesn't mean you should save until you can't work anymore and end up in debt. You get my point. But I still respect your view. Thanks for your opinion.

stonedfish

You need invicta venom in your collection, cant get any more original than invicta venom

FaisalOji

I personally don't like Invicta watches; they are too flashy for my taste.

Proud_Professional_5

I love unique, colorful collections like this. My watch box just looks like a stock photo of typical tool watches, but I've worn and enjoyed every single piece so I'm happy. I agree with people saying consolidate and upgrade. I have a strict "one-in/one-out" policy, it's made for some tough choices but eventually I found the ten watches I love and wear the most.

FaisalOji

I have a strong appreciation for intricate timepieces and those that exhibit distinctive features. Individual preferences vary, and it is gratifying to discover individuals who share similar interests. While I understand the concept of a "one in, one out" policy, I find it challenging to part with any of my timepieces. Each one possesses its own distinctive allure and charm, which I genuinely enjoy.
