No, he needs to stop buying lower tier watches.
At this rate he could buy an Omega in a few months if he stops buying.
Edit: Nice selection. He will probably keep that Hamilton forever.
I think it's not bad advice. A lot of collectors make the same mistake at the beginning. We buy watches that we like but not love because the ones we love are too expensive. So we scratch that itch. When instead of cumulating several lower tier watches you can wait, plan and buy one higher tier watch you absolutely love.
I partially agree, but you can buy something you like without spending >$5k. I can attest that it took time for me to find the watches I like, and I'm still looking.
To me, "quality" doesn't necessarily need to mean "top tier"
>He will probably keep that Hamilton forever.
Yeah, the murph just has this hard to explain charm about it, regardless of whether you like interstellar. I'd probably have one if it weren't for the free sprung balance
Don’t know why you would call these entry level. All three are Swiss made automatics from well known watch companies with years and years of horological history. You’ve pretty much got a complete collection here - a diver, a field and a pretty much a GADA watch in the Gentlemen. Maybe you could add a pilot or racing watch, and perhaps a white dial would be nice, but you pretty much have the necessities covered.
Nice collection and enjoy.
I have to tell you, as a guy who has done well for himself AND likes watches, when I see a Rolex or AP, I don’t think “wow nice watch.” I think “bad with money.”
Honestly, with those, youre putting $25k in to a depreciating asset that’s not going to drive you to work and back. Especially if you’re under 40, put it in to an equity portfolio that will compound in value over the next 25 years.
I agree. I live in Los Angeles. I don’t buy watches over $1000. You’ll get shot, stabbed, and then robbed for your watches. A couple got robbed in Hollywood for a Michael Koors watch! These bad guys will follow you home.
I don't know... I agree with you in general, but I think at least with Rolex it's not a depreciating asset. Yes definitely with almost any other brand, including Omega, you'll lose money on it as soon as your purchase clears the bank. But even with 50 year old Rolex you see them going for 10-20x what they were originally purchased for. Last year, my brother sold a 1975 stainless steel Datejust (couldn't tell you the reference number) for a little over $3800. It cost my grandpa maybe a couple hundred dollars back then.
Not all watches lose value over time and for some people who have them it doesn’t mean they’re necessarily bad with money. Tomorrow is never guaranteed and if you can afford it and want it, why not get it
Attainable would probably be a better descriptor, I think. That said, Rolex sells a million watches a year. As much as they work to make them difficult to procure, that’s a lot of people wearing that crown on their wrist.
Still a very nice collection.
Oh yea Rolex is more common than Longines to see on wrists for sure or at least that's true for where i am from.
Also wanna talk bad with money or better yet too much money to care? A friend of mine got a Rolex Pepsi for his 18th birthday and that's when they were going for like 24k a pop.
“Attainable for more people” - attainable for most people in a developed economy, with a well paying job and most likely good education. This is not what most of the population is…
It is a matter of perspective I guess, your collection is fine, as long as you find it fine.
Great collection, very smart choices!
If you don’t mind, could you please share what watch/jewellery box this is? I’ve been looking for a 4 slot with space for cuff links/rings
I read ”entry level..” and thought I saw my Vacheron Overseas there, choked my coffee for a second feeling offended. 😂 Very good collection thoug, you got variation going.
Great choices! Although I wouldn’t call them entry level, I feel all 3 are a tier above, with the longines maybe even one above that.
Overall you have great taste
What do you think of the Tissot and Hamilton? I’ve been eyeing both for years… currently have two seikos and an orient bambino. I want to go one step higher.
I'm very happy with both. I've had the tissot the longest and I'm still happy with the purchase. It's the cheapest of the 3 but still feels great. It's a 40mm while the hamilton is the 38mm version. The 40mm hamilton murph was too big for my wrist so keep that in mind if you pick the hamilton.
Go with whichever you'd wear more and you won't be disappointed.
Newest of the bunch and I'm loving it. The finishing and details stand out to me. Feels like it's punching above it's price. Ceramic bezel version in particular is really nice.
Great collection. For your next one switch it up, go for a lighter dial face or coloured dial face, and maybe go for a different shape too.
Also don't sell yourself short calling them entry level like others have said.
These are absolutely not entry level 😂. It’s more watches than over 90% of the world’s population could afford. Entry level is a cheap Seiko or Casio. Still great stuff but it’s not all about getting a Rolex or the one trick pony AP.
I own both a Tissot Gentleman Silicium in blue and the 38mm Murph, and they get as much wrist time as my Omega 300M, Rolex GMT Master II, and other high dollar pieces. Very nice start to the collection.
That, sir, is a perfect entry level watch collection. You accomplish a lot with those three, and similar to what I would choose if I started over again. Well done!!!!
Because they are, doesn’t mean they’re shitters. They’re D rank, entry level Swiss watches. Nothing wrong with classifying these watches for what they are.
Entry to what? It’s a misnomer: many people will pick up a very nice $1000 watch and call it a day. Many people never will. Calling it “entry” is only self-ego stroking: not mindfully categorizing a watch for its purpose.
The conquest is above entry and I would almost say the same for the Hammy (think Urban Gents voice). The PRX sure. Well done. Solid start. You have a discerning eye.
Stop while you're ahead.
No he needs one more for the box to be full
No, he needs to stop buying lower tier watches. At this rate he could buy an Omega in a few months if he stops buying. Edit: Nice selection. He will probably keep that Hamilton forever.
The idea of "lower tier" watches is BS buy what you like. It doesn't always need to be about status watches!
I think it's not bad advice. A lot of collectors make the same mistake at the beginning. We buy watches that we like but not love because the ones we love are too expensive. So we scratch that itch. I agree. Bought my Helm watch I waited for a long time and wear it every day. Absolutely love it.
True man but he didn’t do too bad for first purchases when I first started my first watch was invicta haha
Why get one watch when you could have 4 watches that you enjoy just as much.
quality over quantity
If he stops now and waits to get the Omega he WILL have 4 watches.
Fair point
For real. My first purchase was a Hamilton like 15 years ago and I still wear it every week
>He will probably keep that Hamilton forever. Yeah, the murph just has this hard to explain charm about it, regardless of whether you like interstellar. I'd probably have one if it weren't for the free sprung balance
Why would a free sprung balance be an issue? Are you DIY’ing your wristwatch regulation?
It's swatch. All the same shit. Different styles, marketing and prices to make people feel better about themselves. They all tell the same time.
Don’t know why you would call these entry level. All three are Swiss made automatics from well known watch companies with years and years of horological history. I guess I meant entry level as being attainable for more people. No Rolex, AP, etc...
I have to tell you, as a guy who has done well for himself AND likes watches, when I see a Rolex or AP, I don’t think “wow nice watch.” I think “bad with money.” Honestly, with those, youre putting $25k in to a depreciating asset that’s not going to drive you to work and back. Fair enough. Thank you!
“Attainable for more people” - attainable for most people in a developed economy, with a well paying job and most likely good education. This is not what most of the population is… It is a matter of perspective I guess, your collection is fine, as long as you find it fine.
Excellent choices!
I wish I could afford any of these. Nice 3.
Great collection, very smart choices! If you don’t mind, could you please share what watch/jewellery box this is? I’ve been looking for a 4 slot with space for cuff links/rings
I'm not sure the brand. But it's actually an 8 slot, I'm just showing half.
I read ”entry level..” and thought I saw my Vacheron Overseas there, choked my coffee for a second feeling offended. 😂 Very good collection thoug, you got variation going.
The Gentleman is a fusion between the 4500V and Rolex DJ41 (smooth, oyster)
Yes, was the same and it looks very “similar” from a distance
All three are excellent man, well done! Need a wee Casio in there though!👍👍
Eventually lol
Absolutely solid choices sir
Great start!!
Great picks!
Great choices! Although I wouldn’t call them entry level, I feel all 3 are a tier above, with the longines maybe even one above that. Overall you have great taste
Brilliant

Sweet 😍
"entry level"
Get an omega, the longiness is great
Good choices.
Great taste! Awesome watches.
I love the Hamilton.
Love all these and have all these on my list of ones to get in the future. How’s that Longines one, love it!
Newest of the bunch and I'm loving it. The finishing and details stand out to me. Feels like it's punching above it's price. Ceramic bezel version in particular is really nice.

I like the Hamilton, simple

I love the Longines and the Hamilton. Really nice OP
That’s a really nice triplet
Three solid brands, that have nothing to envy brands/models five times the price.
Solid. Maybe a Cartier Santos next to round it out.
They are all great choices
I like the Murph
I own both a Tissot Gentleman Silicium in blue and the 38mm Murph, and they get as much wrist time as my Omega 300M, Rolex GMT Master II, and other high dollar pieces. Very nice start to the collection.
If I were you I’d get a Seiko and make this handsome triplet into a legendary quartet.
Solid choices
Nice work. Very solid collection and i'd be more than happy wearing any of those.
I like it. Good selection
lol gotta get u a rollie
Love the Murph
That, sir, is a perfect entry level watch collection. You accomplish a lot with those three, and similar to what I would choose if I started over again. Well done!!!!
I’d go white dial German bauhaus, Nomos or Junghans.
How’s the Hamilton , thinking of getting the 38mm murph
big fan 👏🏼
Why do you call those “entry level?” They’re three solid watches!
Fine. Entry level *luxury* Swiss watches. Better?
Entry to what?
Luxury wristwatches. What else
My first two were the Tissot Gentleman and the Murph! Nice style 🤠
The Hamilton is classy. I like it!
Great choices, great start. I prefer this Tissot over the PRX everyone goes for.
The conquest is above entry and I would almost say the same for the Hammy (think Urban Gents voice). The PRX sure. Well done. Solid start. You have a discerning eye.
The Longines is ugly af, look at the index and the crown gurads. And the crown.
Also it has 4 instead of 3
Good for you.
