Do you want one? Buy it. Do you not really want one but feel obligated? Donât. Depends on your financial situation but youâre probably gonna feel dumb wearing 5 grand on your wrist if itâs not something youâre passionate about. Normies think anything analog on a steel bracelet is a Rolex anyways so no point in buying something to impress people.
I just purchased an addiesdive watch after some reviews. I have a few nicer watches that I prefer not to wear much. This one holds up just as well and looks the part. It was definitely one of the least expensive watches Iâve bought recently, but love it. Second to that I would say omega aqua terra with a strap is great for outdoors and pool outings.
If itâs something on your bucket list then go for it , but make sure youâre in a position of taking care of it. Servicing a watch like Rolex , Breitling and or Omega can be really expensive to maintain if something happens to it. So ask yourself am I really prepared to be able to maintain them? Take it from me or anyone else here who owns them because I once had stripped my crown stem on a Breitling and it cost me 1300 to replace it.
I should also add the watches I have mean a great deal to me. My Hamilton automatic was my wedding present. The Shinola was my first Fatherâs Day gift. This would be a mid life crisis gift to myself. I canât afford the Porsche so this would satiate this milestone. But like, I also want a damn HVAC system for my home lol.
Everyone is different as to why they put something on their wrist like this. Would love to know why besides âI make money so I can afford itâ!
Purchasing a nice watch is a small price to pay to satiate a "mid-life crisis." Lots of dudes spend lots more, or even blow up their entire life, around that time.
That said, I get where you are coming from. I've been wearing watches for more than 30 years, but have never paid more than $2k for one, and most were well less than a grand. I'm about 13 years older than you, and I've made the decision to make a big "grail" watch purchase in the next year. It will still be less than $10k, but it is going to be my "halo" watch that sits at the top of my other, much-less spendy watches.
Why? No other reason than I want it and can afford it. I've always said no to spending big like that, even when my wife said "why not," as there was another bill, retirement, investment, kid's college, etc. on the horizon. And truthfully, spending big on myself has always gone against my nature. But none of those are worries anymore and I really want to buy a luxury watch to reward myself with it. And I want to do it now, while I am still working, so I have a place to wear it. Not because I need anyone else to see it, I don't. But wearing a nice watch to work feels better than putting one on the putter around the house 6 years from now in retirement.
To your question, if you can afford it, do it. You don't have to break the bank, but you could find great luxury watches for under $10k, and some under $5k. Reward yourself now, because at some point you won't be able to enjoy it.
Need is such a hard thing to determine. It really depends on what motivates you. Is the watch just a thing to you? Does it represent anything? Do you have the money to burn for your wrist?
I own a 10.000⏠Panerai. Do I really need one? No. Did I get a compliment about it? Yes one time in 6 years, one guy in an elevator pointed out "nice watch" -> no, I didn't get rubbed. This watch is my daily and I like to wear it. Anyhow if I could turn back the time, I would probably go with something like a Seiko Astron (solar, gps, etc.). Why, I thought I'm the "I need a mechanical watch guy". Of course it's super cool but at least once or twice a month you need to align the time. Even the most expensive mechanical watch will not run accurately after a month. For everyday a good quartz watch is not to beat.
I guess you have been playing around many watches. At age 45 what i recommend is: sell all of your watches, pick a true GADA watch and done. Being luxury is a board definition, depending on how you can afford, of course not a must.
If that is the one and only, worth to buy a good one, myself will go with either GS or Omega.
After you do so, get out of this group and stop watching watches reviewing! Good luck.
Hmm I purchased a Tudor 1926 (dress watch) strictly because I wanted a luxury watch. Later I found a tag Heuer aqua racer and found that it was much more suited to my lifestyle and I received way more compliments. I recommended buying what you like and not the brand name/ influence of others.
Do you need one? No.
Do you want one? I think you do!
If you donât treat yourself much and you want a nice watch then go for it!
I had a bit of buyers remorse at the start because theyâre not cheap but once you get used to wearing it and give it a couple of scratches, youâll love it.
Does it make you feel more confident? Like a better version of yourself when you wear it? When you see it, do you feel proud of what brought you the good fortune to have it? Do you feel like it reflects who you are? If youâre in business, does it communicate that youâve achieved a measure of success that would make your clients feel more comfortable working with you?
No
No one needs a luxury watch, man. What kind of question is this? Do I need a Lamborghini? You tell me. Different price range but same idea
What are you, a poor? J/k. No, you do not need one. They're just a cool trinket.
You certainly don't need a Shinola! đ But an Omega or Tudor đ
Woah easy.
Unless it's a Lake Erie Monster...
Of course not

Damn, which breitling model?
It was my Super Avenger. Screwed the crown down to tight being new to automatics not knowing as a newbie.

Thank you I appreciate that response. Would def be under 5k, maybe pre owned omega or Tudor.

Of course you donât need it, but if it brings you joy and you can comfortably afford it, then yes, buy one

Yes
Life expectancy is 77.5 so youâre past middle age, but buy what makes you happy
Finally someone who gets me.

Poorly executed question. Of course we donât need anything luxurious. I guess I would put it to you guys, why do you own your luxury watch?
Because they make me happy and I can afford them
