You know what else is splintering? Having to switch between streaming services in the middle of a tournament. Seeing more commercials and millionaires talk about BS than actual golf.
Improve the coverage and you may improve your fan base.
The coverage really is awful. You know one of the things that draws interest in NFL games? They have analysts breaking down plays and guys games. They are giving you lightning segments outlining how Mahomes, Jones, McCaffery, etc… operate and what they are good at. They are breaking down plays and showing you what the thought process is, the execution and how it worked or went poorly. This builds knowledge and invests the viewer in what’s happening.
How many times do you see a lightning segment/breakdown of PGA guys swings? Like a real breakdown showing their swing, showing their shot shape and the shots they have in the bag. Showing what they are trying to do with a shot and how they execute or miss it. I see way too much rifling from one shot to the other, idle chit chat, commercial breaks, and scenic overhead course shots. Not nearly enough analysis and building that viewer investment.
The other hard fact is they make too much money. It isn’t sexy to hear, but they do. The average NFL salary is 2.8 million. In 2021, the average PGA Tour player made 1.5 when total purse was 367. This year total purse + bonus is 475, so we can estimate the average PGA Tour Pro will make about 2 million. The NFL literally generates 10x the revenue of the PGA Tour and the average earnings for players are only 40% higher. The big difference is how that is distributed, about half of NFL players make less that 1 mil per year and the minimum is 750k. (I’m all for them earning more, but at some point we have to be realistic. You have to increase revenue to increase expenses, just writing bigger checks isn’t an answer.)
Oh don’t worry. Golf wasn’t picked special for their “project”. See European Football, Cricket, Formula 1, Boxing, WWE, Tennis, Horse Racing, MMA, eSports… you get the idea.
I don’t think jay has done a great job publicly, but what was he gonna do when you’ve got the sovereign wealth fund of SA with unlimited cash dangling hundreds of millions in front of golfers?
You make the deal that they are doing now..
Just take the investment. Give them 1 "board" seat and call it a day.
Jay played the negotiations completely wrong. Either for more power/money on his side or he thought he was roger goodell and owned the sport of golf.
The result is he splintered the actual players and fan base all for nothing. The guy needs to go
What he could have done is not ban the players, they still would have come back and played the signature events and eventually interest in Liv would have died off because it’s not a great product. People have played multiple tours for as long as modern pro golf has been a thing.
Don’t move the signature events and it isn’t a problem? If they can’t play signature events that’s their loss, the result is you get more big names in the mule events. Most LIV guys would still need to play PGA events for points, so their options are more limited which means you now get some bigger names in tournaments you typically wouldn’t.
This is assuming LIV wouldn’t instead schedule their events to fall on off weekends, which I think they probably would if guys were allowed to play both. There really isn’t much for them to gain by going head to head on bigger ratings weekends if guys are allowed to play both tours.
These fucking click bait titles. Yes he said this, but in the context of a reporter asking him what he felt about fans being mad at them for the quality of the field now. It’s not he came out attacking them.
This whole fifth major talk (as the article mentions) has always bothered me. It can’t be a major if it’s only open to PGA tour players. It’s a great event, but it’s not a major and should never be one. The PGA tour started that talk years ago and it has never died.
Wanna "sportswash" you DMFingSP's.......start pumping oil so gas goes down to $2/gallon and tell the entire World that its because of you. Don't see how giving a bunch of rich, cheating golfers(DeCambeau, Reed) a bunch of fucking $$$$ helps your sorry ass reputations!!!
Not really. He is managing $2 billion. Guessing the management fee is around 1%. $20 million per year fee.
Please get your FACTS right.
It doesn’t pass the smell test at all, but please don’t say something that is false.
pretty much on point - of course hell say that & I don’t blame him. he’s not gonna throw monahan or the pga tour (buried in prehistoric liquid amber) under the bus… but someone finally poked the bear - golf needs to evolve and it’ll happen organically.
Scottie auditioning to be the new Rory
Took his putter, and now his press conferences! Next thing you know he’s gonna be rocking the hobbit locks and blasting it 360.
New golf Karen.

I agree Scottie!
No shit
Well...yeah.
Watch people distort this, when it’s really the most simple and obvious reason
Scottie was spittin here. Nice to see him a little fiery with all this bullshit
totally agree
Thanks Jay
How about the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund with endless pockets that just happened to pick golf as their sportswashing project
Oh don’t worry. Golf wasn’t picked special for their “project”. See European Football, Cricket, Formula 1, Boxing, WWE, Tennis, Horse Racing, MMA, eSports… you get the idea.
Coming for football next
Take note adam silver and roger goodell. Protect your league and global reach at all costs or you will be next
The Aramco Team Series for the ladies really really seems like LIV lite so far too

They all left cause of money AND Scottie.
It’s true. Blame the dickheads who left.

Don't agree... The Big names of LIV would have been in all the signature events
Right… so then leaving is splintering golf.
Jerad Kushner took a billion dollars from Saudi Arabia. FACT. But that doesn't bother many of you does it?
Can I not be displeased at both?
No. Everybody gets one
What brought you to that completely unrelated random conclusion?
Not really. He is managing $2 billion. Guessing the management fee is around 1%. $20 million per year fee. Please get your FACTS right. It doesn’t pass the smell test at all, but please don’t say something that is false.

And Trump takes money from Russia, you know Americas biggest global enemy. How many indictments does Joe have? Trump has 91 of them.
I would keep those guys from playing in the majors. You defected, we're done.
You realize they left the PGA Tour…and the PGA Tour doesn’t run a single major, right? Do you understand this?
PGA OPEN. Seriously, how dumb are you actually?
PGA Championship is run by the PGA of America, which is an entirely separate governing body than the PGA Tour.
This guy was so confident saying that 🤣🤣🤣
It’s a poor troll right there. If not, you are one of the dumbest people I’ve actually encountered on here. I’m talking actually retarded.
You’re actually a little bitch boy with zero knowledge. It’s impressive.
Haha no, you’re following me around because you’re a screeching little shithead. Go start your day with your ugly wife and mediocre job you pissant.
There it is. You continue to show sad your pathetic life is. You wouldn’t say anything in person so you use the internet like a bitch boy.
I wouldn’t encounter you in real life because you are probably poor and I don’t associate with slobs.
All your responses point out how poor you are but you need to compensate for the life you created for yourself and hate.
You sound like Eamon. Go cry elsewhere.
If you sportswash, and do business and negotiate with the Saudis, you are done. That's a fair standard.

LIV if true
