nope they all exist at the same time, they are their sekai's "version" of the character and are aware of each other but not directly. like, Miku knows other mikus are out there helping other people with their feelings
From their area conversations I thought Ena and Akito seemed like a fun ship because they talked to each other in a refreshingly familiar (albeit often rude haha) way. Then I noticed their last names 💀
It took me an embarrassingly long time to recognize they were siblings. Even when Akito showed up in the Nightcord main story, I was still like ‘geez why is that rando dude from the streets in her house?’

My wording fleets me sometimes, initially, I didn't know Ena was Akito's sister (haven't noticed the family name yet) and that Akito's sister wasn't really known other than a mention. It was only till I went to check on the character rank page after seeing the Area Conversation involving that did I notice that they have the same family name, and therefore are siblings.
That I thought Kanade and Shizuku were siblings or that Kanade had a double life or something. It was really weird but it didn't last long because I noticed that the VAs were different 😭
As for the sibling one, it only occurred after I saw the first mention of Shizuku and Shiho being Siblings

I used to think Ichika's hair was dark blue for a MONTH but then looked closely and realized it's black 💀
Also I thought Toya and Kanade were siblings cause one of Toya's half (of his hair) has a similar color to Kanade 💀😭
It is dark blue though. At least, the game uses a blue shade to draw it and her stamps have dark blue hair. It might be canonically black in universe though but it’s dark blue in the art. You can especially see the difference if you compare her and the top of An’s hair (An’d hair is black on the top and blue on the bottom)
I notice in a lot of anime that characters who are stated in canon as black-haired have their hair drawn as a dark blue, so I suspect it’s the same for Ichika (I also think someone mentioned Ichika’s hair being black in a convo but I don’t entirely remember)

before i started playing i knew only some of the characters from random pinterest post i had seen and a lot of them were ruikasa ship posts. i think i also saw some posts about akito and toya and for some reason i thought that akito and tsukasa were the same guy and the same with toya and rui. 💀 i think it might have been the similar hair colors but i was so shocked when i saw that there were a total of four boys in the game

until about 3 months of playing the game i used to be scared of entering virtual shows because i watched a few jp players' gameplay and saw that the finish screen said "live clear" so i thought virtual shows were randomly selected people competing against eachother and i was insecure because i sucked another thing was in maybe my first month in i got kind of attached to shizushiho because of how caring shizuku was and how much she coddled shiho and took it as a love monster x tsundere pair... the amalgamation of shock, shame and guilt on my face when i looked at their profiles really close was abysmal to say the least

I didn’t know this game featured original characters, so when I got the game, I just assumed everyone was some really obscure Vocaloid I’d never heard of. It doesn’t help that my first introduction to these characters was the hologram concert for Newly Edgy Idols

I thought the game was going to be about the Virtual Singers. It's nice that it's about the other characters, but it is kind of sad how the Vocaloids just kind of exist in the background. I love seeing them interact with each other and their world.
