I share your sentiment. I've lived a fortunate life so if this injustice were inflicted upon me I would be materially unaffected for the most part notwithstanding the PTSD. For someone who might barely be making ends meet and has very little recourse, this assault at minimum disrupts their entire life's trajectory and quite likely shortens their life expectancy.
I think it's more circumstance. The whole concept of having to earn a living creates those kinds of circumstances all over the world. It's a damn shame, because there's more than enough to go around if we would just let go of that idea.
