True , but that is because it’s profit comes from merchandise and RT didn’t approached well on that front.
RT was awfully mismanaged, because it was too hands off doing it’s own thing. But with Viz Media? It’s only RWBY’s IP and thus any marketing or merchandise would be managed by a Viz Media Staff Member.
I’ll just copy and paste what I typed in another response to the same question:
Viz Media is owned by 3 Japanese companies: Shueisha Inc., Shogakukan Inc., and Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions, Co., Ltd.
Shuesha is the largest publishing company in Japan as it was established back in 1925. It owns 40% of Viz.
Another 40% of Viz is owned by Shogakukan Inc. (They are Japanese publisher of manga, magazines, light novels, dictionaries, literature, non-fiction, home media, and other media in Japan.)
The company with 20% ownership is Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions Co. who is an anime studio that produced a lot of notable anime work

And Viz itself has been around since the late 80s starting out as an Anime acquisition company that localizes those shows by providing dubbed or subbed versions for western consumers.
