My memory is pretty bad, but I swear back in the day you could hear the opponent ops yell fairly non-informative lines like, “blowing breach” if an attacker blew a breaching charge over your head or something. But yeah now it’s kinda just fluff, it probably helps newbies learn gadget names.
I’m pretty sure you could cause I used to play with subtitles on and it would show if the attackers said something even tho you may have barely heard the dialogue.
Weren't there also voicelines for red pings (before yellow was a thing)? Like you scanned an enemy with the camera and the line said "spotted an enemy" or "bathroom, second floor".
I'm not even sure this ever was a thing, ot if the lines were from the character or from the narrator.
Idk why reddit recommended me this post 3 days later, but I was ratting as Echo a few weeks ago and red-pinged somebody with the yokai and this mf is like , "Enemy spotted" in like a normal speaking volume, like stfu we are hiding.
It's more the fact that Castle's scream is somehow the loudest thing on the map when it happens. Even louder than things like explosions.
Also very distinctive, so everyone knows who it was that just got hit by anything, even from something as minor as a shock drone.

from what i’ve noticed they’ll speak their lines quietly until you begin shooting your gun.
you can notice this the most in prep phase by placing a few gadgets, reinforcing some walls and then shooting some drones. every time after you shoot they switch to the louder aggressive dialogue

I only hate playing Hibana now. I think personally the operator lines are cool, but they took out all of Hibana's lines and replaced them with "as my friend would say, (insert thermite quote)" and now she's just annoying.
What I do love is being on the other side of the map and still hearing the clash on my team scream at the top of her lungs. "FUCK OFF!"
