VeryUnsureOf

I listen to music in any language, idc what language it's in so long it sounds good.

mynameismanager

Same for me. Most of the time I don't even know what lyrics are or mean, I'm vibing to the music

Excellent-Bowl-2944

Just to point out something. If there are lyrics in the music you enjoy, try and read and or learn them. People underestimate how much of a difference the lyrics make. Its like, the artist made it that way, so, thats the way it needs to be fully appreciated.

Accomplished-Tuna

As someone that enjoys the sound as the former 2 replies, I like this take. I find I tune myself out of a lot of lyrics when it doesn’t really resonate with the melody that paints a world of my own. But when it hits??? IT BE HITTIN. Even when it doesn’t it still gives me a unique perspective/edge over the song that I hadn’t previously considered

Excellent-Bowl-2944

Well said.

modumberator

I dunno. I like a band called La Femme and it's nice to imagine that they're singing about something deep and mysterious in French, philosophy maybe. But when I look at the lyrics and they're signing about normal things half the time, meeting someone in a nightclub, not being able to find a decent man, etc, I prefer the mystery. Or mystère. Sometimes it's worthwhile but it's low on the list of priorities

KoalaSpecialForces

Same here. Language and genre are meaningless, a good song is a good song. Music penetrates cultural boundaries.

nameless80account

I recently discovered a French singer, called zaz. I don't understand 99.9999999 percent of what her lyrics are but her songs are really chill and relaxing.

Jasperial

Agreed. If you only listen to songs in your native language, you’re seriously missing out.

Awkward-Ad-2071

Now I need to experience Serbian music for myself, lol. I’ll probably hate it but I just need to hear it first hand

Couesam

Well good news. You’re just in time for Eurovision!

rabotat

Love me some Balašević and Bajaga.

No_Editor5785

I'm Swedish. I listen to music in Swedish, English, Japanese and Korean mainly. I've dabbled in Dutch, German, mandarin, Cantonese, eastern European languages and stuff as well, but it's nothing that really stuck. I collect records as well, and atm I only have Japanese and Swedish records, but I want British and American ones too in the future.

SewGangsta

American here. I'm a big fan of Swedish hip-hop. This Swedish polyglot friend I made gaming likes the same music I do and loves sending me Swedish or other language hip-hop songs he thinks I'll like. No clue what they are saying but a lot of it is really good and I found that it is better to listen to while I'm trying to work since I don't get distracted by the words.

GreatBoneStructure

I’m a caucasian Canadian and it’s been Ethiopian Jazz for me all month. Thank you utube algos!

SeaMindless7297

German here: i rarely listen to anything german. Most of it is just not good, in my opinion. But im always open for suggestions, i wouldn't not listen just because it's german. I mostly listen to music in english and korean, sometimes japanese.

Mein_Name_ist_falsch

That's also my experience. Most German stuff is just boring, but I don't really care about what language a song is in.

Feuerkr13ger

German is a pure METAL language. If you like something heavy, you might need to check out Neue deutsche Härte bands, mostly Industrial metal. No language can express so much energy as German: DURCH JEDE MAUER, DIE UNS TRENNT, SOLANG NOCH FEUER IN UNS BRENNT VOLLE KRAFT VORAUS

RichVisual1714

If this genre is too heavy for you, there also is plenty of Mittelaltermetal (medieval folk rock) in German.

LavishnessTop3088

This! For me it was folk rock/metal and the goodies like Tote Hosen which really got me into enjoying German music

RichVisual1714

And then there is Knorkator.

Evil_Deed

Haha kinda funny, I'm not German but I LOVE German music and I don't really get it when I hear stuff like "ew German music". BUT around 10+ years ago I was thinking kinda same but because I didn't like how the language sounds (cause the only band I knew was Rammstein). I'm happy I gave a chance to German bands/singers back then :D as for me I like some ndh bands (rarely listen to them nowadays tho), some rap, some punk, some not that famous pop or rock bands... Recently rediscovered Drangsal - the guy is great, also discovered Faber (they're a Swiss band tho), Betterov, Slime, Die Nerven - all of them are pretty dope IMO

SeaMindless7297

Tbf i used to be all "ewwww german music is the worst"and axt high and mighty for not listening to it, but now i just really dont care for it. There are some beautiful and really fun songs, im not going to deny that, but i just dont like a lot of german voices. Its definitely partially because i just dont like the german language, so i am most definitely biased 😅😅

Dragonwithamonocle

Speaking strictly as an American, there is some German music that I really like. Rammenstein is almost a meme for being THE German band, but I've been very into Faun lately. Federkleid and Tanz Mit Mir being the standout songs.

Comprehensive-Pin667

I'm not German, but a lot of the music I like is German :) I like Die Ärzte, Die Toten Hosen, Rammstein, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter, Saltatio Mortis, In Extremo, but even older pop stuff like Wir Sind Helden or Sportfreunde Stiller

BoredConfusedPanda

What genres, artists and songs do you like? with that info we can give you some tailored recommendations

Patizleri

I can advise annenmaykantereit and von wegen lisbeth

FindingMagicAgain

I live in new zealand and there is one maori song that sometimes plays on the radio that is an absolute banger. I try to sing along but i literally cannot speak that language haha so no chance

Couesam

Now I need a name so I can look this up

FindingMagicAgain

Its called Poi E and the name of the group is Patea Maori club. I cannot work out how to make the little lines above letters appear so i couldn't spell those words correctly. But if you google that you will find it. It was very popular here for a long time and was a very important song to help connect young maori to their heritage through a more hip hop sound mixed with traditional maori music and lyrics.

Limp-Comedian-7470

https://youtu.be/1yo1zWi2JYg?si=c3_g_bRs9MmpVdJy I didn't even need the confirmation in the comment below to know what song the comment was referring to. It's a national treasure this song

HeWhoSoughtTheFire

I typically don't listen to soviet rock but some say it's a genre in its own. In fact, it is. I mean, many songs sound really boring or weird unless you understand the lyrics. Once you do, well, that's a whole new world (this world is not full of unicorns and rainbows though)

Excellent-Bowl-2944

You know there are music genres right? A nation can have different kinds of music. What is american music? Can you elaborate? Do you watch sports and cheer for the "flag" and not the team and or player that you enjoy watching?

zar1naaa27

I’m a native English speaker but I love listening to Russian music. Their punk/rock and indie pop is seriously out of this world imo

Skoutster

+1!!!!

PapayaBlu

I'm italian and the only music i listen is from Maneskin and other little artist less famous.Honestly modern Italian music it's pretty shitty.

LavishnessTop3088

An Italian friend of mine also told me that he never listens to Italian music, because he thinks it’s cringe. I was in Italy at the time to go to a Måneskin concert and he had never heard of them and was a bit embarrassed that the first good Italian music was introduced to him by someone who isn’t even Italian. But I had gone through that same cycle where the first German music I enjoyed listening to was introduced to me by a Swedish friend. I suppose you just always have to dig quite deep

spydermat07

new popular italian music today is just 3 minute max gangster type of shit songs

strawberrysoup99

Yes. Alcest, Heilung, Otyken Rammstein (some of it), etc. I've come across plenty of songs I like that I can't understand due to a language barrier, largely in the metal categories.

LavishnessTop3088

Someone has good taste, but let’s be honest, the best music is in old Norse when you don’t know a single word in that language lol

BinkoTheViking

I’d add Wardruna to that list…

Infamous_Day9685

I taught myself German when I was 14 when I came across a music chart show scrolling through all the foreign satellite tv channels for fun! Sounds silly but I had no idea foreign music even existed before then so it got me searching out all kinds of music in other languages! I used to record it with a dictaphone and then translate it. It became such a passion of mine. Four years later I went to university to study German but it took away the magic that initially drew me to it in the first place. Once I graduated I swore I'd never speak another word of it ever again haha! Once in a blue moon I'll play the music that I stumbled across that day (a band called 'wir sind helden') but the nostalgia can be a bit unsettling, depending on what mood I'm in. Makes me wonder what I'd have done instead if I'd never come across that station that day...weird butterfly effect!

Unkindlake

I'm not too picky about the language or country of origin, but it is kinda funny when a get a song stuck in my head and have no idea what the lyrics mean

Anoelnymous

Native English speaker, but I listen to a lot of french language music. Also Icelandic. And more recently Chinese opera.

Ill-News-555

I'm Dutch and I can't listen too Dutch music because the lyrics always sound cringe to me. I prefer English but there's exceptions for some banger songs in other languages of course.

sluttyoung

music is music for me, if it slaps then it slaps i mostly listen to English, Filipino, and Korean songs English for day to day, Filipino when its raining while youre drinking hot chocolate, Korean while youre taking a shower (cause im doing a concert while i take a shower)

Flairion623

I listen to music in a few languages. Mostly English, Japanese and Russian (Soviet music is very underrated in my opinion)

Awkward-Ad-2071

soviet music you say? interesting... i never really thought about what their music would be like. i definitely gotta check that out

chocolateismynemesis

I'm German and for the most part I don't like music with German lyrics. I mostly listen to Anglo-American music ... and Finnish rap, because I love the beat and the flow of the language, although I only know maybe 5-10 words in Finnish.

Teenage_dirtnap

A Finn here. Out of curiosity, who are the Finnish rappers you listen to?

Swimming_Custard_932

Im was born usa and my native language is usa english. But I love music in other languages. KENT is swedish rock band & one of my favorites. I also like Not your War by Okean Elzy & TG Lurgan gaelige songs. Music can be beautiful in any language

KIIIMA

Oh man I know Kent from the metal band Mercenary which made a cover of Music Non Stop. I really like both versions

ceimaneasa

Haha i can't believe TG Lurgan has made it global. Look up Seo Linn, they play on a lot of the Lurgan songs. And Pólca 4 and Clann Mhic Ruairí are great also and all different dialects of Irish.

cafe-naranja

Yeah, I mostly listen to Indonesian music, too.

NewW0nder

Can you please recommend some good Indonesian tunes? You and the OP got me curious.

Maleficent_Load6709

I listen mostly to instrumental music so I don't really care. Pretty much will listen to music in any language as long as it sounds good. As far as music with lyrics go, I listen mostly in Spanish (my native tongue) and English (my second language).

nevadapirate

Native language is English and I love a lot of music in English but I do very much like music from other languages. Especially metal in other languages.

StarWars_Viking

Language doesn't matter as long as the music makes me feel something. I do have a slight preference towards Swedish Metal and French Jazz, though.

Goal_Achiever_

I like foreign music and I hate some music in my native language.

BigJ168

I listen to a lot of German industrial old europop and techno all the way down to classical and bluegrass.

Echoes_prod

I like a bit of everything, I listen to a lot of Japanese music but also a lot of Greek music (because I'm Greek)

burncushlikewood

I'm from North America and speak English as my first language, but I absolutely love Brazilian music, and french music as well

TidalJ

if it bops it bops. the germans have some really good synthpop. and the eastern europeans have some great post-punk but are yall okay?

Longjumping_Drag2752

I’m obsessed with late 80s and 90s German and Russian music. I also listen to my native language music. Kinda everything

QueeeenElsa

My native language is English and my answer is native.

Birdoflames

Recently I've been getting into Japanese fusion jazz, but it really depends as I also listen to quite a lot of punk and metal in Hebrew (my native language) as well as English (a language I speak from a young age). German music and Russian music also come and go, mostly metal-based.

Cheap_Relative7429

I will listen to Music from any language if I like the Music or songs. But on an average Listening basic, I listen to songs from my Native language

Happy_Piece2723

Mostly English, but there are periods of time where it gets really boring so i listen to Arabic music a lot for a couple weeks then revert back

Bagolyvagymi

I'm Hungarian and I hate Hungarian music

IJustWannaDssapear

I'm with you on that, American music can get repetitive. I personally love Dutch folk music, but I also enjoy Indonesian and Japanese tunes for the unique rhythms and vocal styles.

ZeJohnnis

Real life languages? Kinda. It becomes more like listening to a lyric less song with the foreign lyrics becoming part of the instrumentals. Fake languages? I listen to splatoon music. Nuff said

Particular-Ad-2308

Im Indian And music and cinema is huge in my country. I love Bollywood music! And even music in other regional languages like tamil and telugu. We have a wide variety of languages and cultures to choose from. In fact the % of our population listening to English music is very low even today

karufuuru

INDONESIA MENTIONED RRRRRRAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH LISTEN TO CHERRYBELLE [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0Rc4yi7RgleTD8mWSmATw0?si=rFsKNkLdSxyflLyV\_rK2xA&pi=a-f-dskR30Qb66](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0Rc4yi7RgleTD8mWSmATw0?si=rFsKNkLdSxyflLyV_rK2xA&pi=a-f-dskR30Qb66)

Awkward-Ad-2071

Yo that’s good! I wasn’t aware of that group, thanks for bringing them to my attention

NiceLittleTown2001

I like musicals and once I am familiar with one, I’ll start listening to another translation of it more often than the original. Some of my favorite cast recordings are in German, Spanish and Hebrew and wouldn’t be surprised if they’re my most played albums of the year

geardluffy

Both

Justavian

In the 90s i came across some Russian music (gal friend brought me back a tape from a college trip to Moscow), and it was the first time that i heard that language and didn't think it was ugly - because as an American, we only got Russians who were villains. I was a metal head, so it took me a while to get into it, but eventually i fell in love with this one Russian singer. In some sense, being a metal guy made it easier for me to listen to a singer that wasn't singing in English - because many black metal / death metal vocals are equally hard to understand. You learn to hear the vocals as just another instrument - the lyrics are much less important. This was before the internet was all that big, and finding lyrics or translating anything was impossible. After a year or two of listening to this tape, i found a Russian English dictionary, and was able to translate part of a chorus, and i cried. It's not even that the lyrics were so meaningful - it's hard to explain. These days, finding the lyrics of absolutely anything would be trivial - i feel like that kind of experience might be lost to time.

labreau

Both.

Neptune_Empress

I have different playlists for different moods/vibes and almost all of them are multilingual. I mean coming from a country that makes so much music in so many local languages, it was bound to happen lol, but I also have other languages like English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, French, German Japanese, etc.

Travel-Her2523

I happily listen to songs in the languages I speak, therefore my native one, yes (french), as well as English and Portuguese. A lot of songs in Spanish, too, because it's very popular in France, which means I'm used to them. And some in German, Turkish, Hebrew, Arabic, because I stumbled upon them by luck and, after researching the lyrics, liked what I was hearing. Don't speak the languages, don't understand them, but they sound nice and they actually are, so they might as well inhabit my ears some times 😍

Separate_Mango_666

English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Korean.

Haunted-Head

Both. I have different music for different moods/situations. But too much of any type of music and I get overwhelmed.

UpsetPhrase5334

Yes

Dependent-Amount-296

Both. I love heavy metal, and most of what I listen to is from other countries. 90% of the time it’s in English, but other times it’s not. I actually like when it’s in another language. It can add another level to the music and then you can imagine what the song is about too.

ChristgaveusDnB

Bit of both. Goes from drum and bass to Pacific sing-along a to the boys from Alien Weaponry 🤣

Yaboyplaydo

I usually just listen to music in the different languages I can understand. I’d like to hear the words the artist wanted us to hear while being able to properly appreciate it.

Legitimate-Vanilla-5

Any language but I'll go translate the lyrics bfr I saved it in my favourite 😬

Motorized23

My native language's (Urdu) music is rich with poetry, culture, folk, and unique instruments. Recent Western music is when I want to shut off my brain and get some work done and have pointless lyrics that don't distract me.

Slim_Chiply

I really prefer music with no lyrics or lyrics in a language I don't understand. That way I get to pick the meaning of the song. I'm usually disappointed when I know what a song actually about. If it's a foreign song, they could be singing about the heartburn they got from dinner, but I'm thinking it some profound piece of poetry set to music.

wiilly_d

Almost every band I like is from England

Single-Being-8263

Mostly i listen to music in my native language. actually i listen to music when I get in mood like sad , happy , depressed etc.

snow_krevedko_right

I feel cringe when I listen to songs in my native language. I love songs in English, French (English and French are not my native languages)

Remarkable_Hat7709

Try country Music

womp_wompwomp_

i love bossa nova as a haitian-american

SonthacPanda

Any language, I speak english and french but I listen to Dutch, korean, chinese, Norwegian, German.. Art transcends language

thelastrunez

I listen mostly English and Spanish but I love Portuguese and Brazilian music.

SymbolicTreasure

I listen to a lot of genres from a lot of people all over the world, but most of what I listen to originated in the UK in the 90s

Impossible_Ad_3146

I listen to English songs because it’s foreign to me

MatronOf-Twilight-55

I adore any music from anywhere! Ethnomusicology Baby! Yeah I'm only interested in Asian music for the art of it. They can keep the pop.

stooges81

French-canadian. I hardly listen to canadian music, french or english. To be fair 99% of the time i just listen to various Liquid Drum And Bass djs.

Puzzleheaded_Row2220

So I'm guessing listening to Du Hast by Rammstein in the original German probably doesn't count?

Sofiaplace

La musica en español es hermosa y muy buena. But I also like in English, french or Portuguese.

hello_amu

I love American music (foreign to me), but nothing will beat the lyrics in a good, romantic Latin song. Words in spanish encapsule feelings much better than words and phrases in English.

ir_blues

Most of the time i listen to english music, which is a foreign language to me. While thats the majority, a huge part is german music too, which is my native language. But that's about it. I do listen to some french, italian, japanese and scandinavian artists who sing in their native language, but i would consider those to be exceptions rather than a common thing for me.

djlo3l

A language you don’t understand just turns into music. It also makes bad lyrics irrelevant if the melody is good.

whyareugay256

I once worked at a Chinese job and they always played their music. It's been years I still listen to it though I understand nothing

Accomplished-Tuna

The Spanish and Koreans b tearin it up for me. I’ve also been getting into the older catalog of Japanese music. There’s an Arabic artist and a Siberian indigenous band that also caught my ear. There’s a certain sound I like in Europe that I can’t pinpoint yet. Same with a couple African sub-genres. But I will find them and so it is.

diyaeliza

I actually don't listen to music in my native language at all except for a select few that have a nostalgia factor. I listen to a lot of others, though. Lately, I've been listening to Turkish music the most often

jupjami

I listen to a lot of OPM (Original Pilipino Music); but Quebecois néo-trad songs are bangers as well.

antDOG2416

I like listening to underground Latin music. I don't speak Spanish and don't know wtf they are talking about but the shit is fuego mane.

Ok-Caramel-5340

I'm marathi I listen to songs in MARATHI , HINDI , KOREAN, JAPANESE, ENGLISH

Anonymous-red-5656

I don't really care about language. My playlist consists of songs from many languages. Some I don't even know what language they are singing in. If the music is good, I would listen to it.

lampsslater77

I'm American and fuckin love me some Japanese music. Psych rock, soulful jams, everything.

Aurelian369

I listen to a few American pop songs, but most of my music intake is kpop. I personally like common kpop musical tropes like very cute bubblegum pop and random beat switches. Also, I like how kpop producers are more willing to go bonkers and noisy as fuck with their instrumentals. Aside from kpop, I also occasionally listen to music in Japanese and Spanish.

Diligent-Ice1276

I love foreign music and listen to music from all over the world.

gypsy_muse

Lots of great music 🎶 out of Africa

Franz_Karpanov

I'm Italian. I listen to music from all over the world and I love how different languages sound.

SacredAnalBeads

Both. I listen to a lot of hip hop and I'm American, so English is a bit easier, but there's tons of really great non-US rap out there. Plus, all of the slang in rap almost made it like half-learning a new language anyway. Then I also listen to a lot of the screamy and guttural kind of metal, and you can barely understand half of that anyway, so language barriers don't matter. The rotating global/world playlists on Spotify are always fun for branching out into random new stuff, too.

IllEvidence1985

I listen to a lot of music without lyrics in it and create my own stories based on the progression of the melodies. As far as the poetry is concerned, I'll listen to any language singing. Moroccan and Brazilian are some of my favorites. I also really enjoy Indigenous American war cries in music.

Aristonkingg

South Korean American here... I have no idea how Ya'll can listen to K-Pop not knowing wtf they are saying.

HomelessHappy

Spanish reggaeton and Brazilian funk. And drake. I have awful tastes 😆

jacf182

Spanish being my native language, 95% of my music is in english. So is everything I read and write. I don't know, in my very own personal opinion, the content is just better, and there's tons more of it.

Herculeanmofo1

I listen to German and Japanese music

Krap-talker

I'm a Polish man, I learned English at 6 years old of course I listen to English country music

Ok-Policy-8284

I like foreign music, although sometimes I wonder what the lyrics are that I'm rocking out to.

cardew-vascular

I'm Bilingual Canadian and listen to English, French, Portuguese, Icelandic, Italian, German, hebrew. I like to sing a long so I mostly stick to French and English but good music is good music language doesn't matter.

Lil_Artemis_92

I really only listen to music in English, because it’s the only language I speak fluently, but there’s a German band called Faun that I really love. I don’t understand what they’re saying, but the music is absolutely beautiful.

Quickhurryupslowdown

I swear there is no better pick me up than intentionally listening to music in a foreign language. Somehow, without the baggage of language the feelings are stronger. It's the same feeling you'd get at the end of a drunken night, howling through a song with friends, messing up the lyrics - arm in arm - staggering down the streets together.

Awkward-Ad-2071

OHH YES i love that analogy so much! the feeling really dose come across so damn well. It also makes it way easier to enjoy the art of the vocals without thinking about what exactly was said

HumbleAd1317

I like it all. I really enjoy traditional Turkish music, but don't know the language that well.

Stephenpholder

I’m currently enjoying 70’s and 80’s Japanese music via My Analog Journal on YouTube

Glad-Armadillo-5675

I listen to most music genres in any language. I don’t listen to radio or chart music that much, because I think most of the music played there is bad.

ElegantEye9247

I’d listen to music in every language on the planet as long as the sound hits me.

Deltasiu

I'm more of English music fan which isn't my native language. The thing is, there's too little of music in Genres I like and is oversaturated with rap and pop. Don't get me wrong, some of them slap but I would rather just listen to them once in a while on the radio

depressed_buttercup

Mostly music in English and German

traveleralice

Yeah I listen to music in languages I don’t know what they are saying!

smallblueangel

I am German, currently i have finnish, German and English music on my playlist

Aromatic_Smoke_3486

Balanced. What I cared the most about is the genre of the songs regardless of the language

thriftingforgold

I only listen to [the Barbara song](https://www.google.com/gasearch?q=barbara%20rhubarb%20song&tbm=&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5)

Awkward-Ad-2071

Magnificent. Truly a work of art worthy of being remembered for centuries to come

mr_argni

I don't care about language. If I don't understand lyrics, i always can imagine what this song about 😁

leavingdory

English and whatever in Eurovision. A lot of non english musics in Eurovision sound great. Many famous songs in my native language are about broken heart or just being low energy, like I listen to music to lift up my mood not bring it down

Evening-Web-3038

I'm from the UK and have a soft spot for American pop country music. You're right in that a lot of songs sound similar (it's usually centered around either a couple getting married, a couple breaking up or getting drunk at a bar/party/on a boat) but they aren't too bad generally, and it's a nice cultural aspect of the US. I also have a soft spot for French music because I find their language pretty cool. And you can find gems from Eastern Europe, for example Polish music can be pretty cool. But I did spend a bit of time living in Poland so that's why it rubbed off on me. The first song I ever heard was Dawid Podsiadło - Pastempomat and imo it captures the essence of living in a rural Polish village in those soviet-era blocks of flats!

helpmepleeeeeeeease

If it has that sound I like I’ll keep it, got plenty of Japanese, since french, and some Spanish music

Ogurasyn

I have msotly English languaged songs in my playlist but I listen to some fun Polish songs

[deleted]

I don’t care about the language. If its good, it’s good.

alli-katt

American living in france here. I listen to both English and French music but that’s it. I generally enjoy understanding the lyrics so while I do like the sound of a lot of k-pop/j-pop/c-pop I don’t listen to it often

Mobile_Entrance_1967

>Mostly I listen to indonesian and Japanese music, Pop or traditional? I've always thought Japanese enka and Indonesian Sundanese music have similar melodies.

Awkward-Ad-2071

Mostly pop and city pop but I’m getting into classic stuff too

Tiana_frogprincess

I mostly listen to music in English which is a foreign language to me. I live in Sweden and Swedish is my native language.

Skoutster

I'm native Dutch and I mainly listen to Russian and Bulgarian music

Revanur

I’m not very representative of my country in my music taste because I listen almost exclusively to American / English language music with only a few songs from my native language in the mix. I also almost exclusively listen to music from the 40’s 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and have very little awareness of modern bands and songs. There are some great Hungarian bands around both old and new, I’ve been to a few concerts and quite enjoyed it but I could not bring myself to shake up my playlist with modern stuff.

Weird_Owl-

My native language is Swedish. Honestly I listen to 3 specific artists from Sweden that I like, and then a few selected songs from other Swedish artists. Other than that, I don’t really like much music with my mother tongue. I listen a lot to music from these countries: Brazil South Korea The UK Japan USA (many of the American accents aren’t quite my taste, but some people make it work, like Gregory Alan Isakov) I listen to some music from these countries: Denmark Italy Canada Australia China Taiwan Russia

Bored_dane

Yeah I listen to Danish music and some swedish too. But most of what I listen to is in english.

Substantial-Abies768

Yes, native, english, danish (volbeat and kim larsen) and mongolian + their throatsinging 👌

closingcredits2024

Both, depending on the mood and situation.

my main language is Russian, but i listen a lot of foreign music, mostly english. to put in perspective, from all 149 songs i have currenly downloaded only 2-3 are russian and 2 more are japanese. i think it’s because of the influence of what games i played when i was a child, like NFS: Underground 1/2, i really liked these OSTs and decided “hmm, why won’t i go and check out other NFS games, i think there’ll be a lot of great music. so i played NFS: MW 2005 and kinda liked it too, but i wanted something different at the time. so i downloaded NFS: MW 2012. this game had more influence on my musical taste than anyone else, like there’s literally everything i could imagine - indie rock, dubstep, electronic music. so maybe 4 or 5 years ago i thought about this game and i was like “hmm, why wouldn’t i go through this game’s OST and pick some songs for my playlist?”. long story short, i found them. Last Dinosaurs. and these guys and their music are here with me, i really like their early works and i believe i wouldn’t be the same person without their music. if you’re too lazy to read this all: so basically NFS games has almost 0 Russian songs in the OSTs, so i became used to English music

Javellin69

I listen to anything really, but as an Italian I can't tolerate italian music. It's all the same shit, no content, no music skills, no performing skills. Only like 30 songs I listen to are made by italian artists, but if I switch on the radio I start to rage. I even listen to russian, german, japanese, spanish, turkish and ungarian music. Just stay away from italy as for the musical aspect.

Fat_Nerd3566

i speak english, but i love listening to rhythm game music which is mostly japanese, even though i don't understand the lyrics i just go off it melodically.

3verythingNice

technically english is my foreign language but I'm used to it by now, I enjoy german music a lot and Spanish songs

Itchy_Notice9639

I listen to anything that sounds good. I do also listen to songs in my own language. I don’t know how to explain, but i like songs that the rhythm changes throughout or sounds intentionally offbeat

IBurnForYou_

I'm from India and I listen to Hindi songs the most. I listen to songs in the English language as well and yes, I like some of the artists and bands a lot. The music style is quite different for both of these languages. I can't imagine my life without both haha. India has a lot of regional languages which are different for different states. So, I also listen to the songs in some languages that I'm fluent in or at least, the ones I can understand.

2old4ZisShit

we have some of the worst music in my country of lebanon, all love song mostly and when the kids try to do something, they do the most cringe worthy attempts at mimicing western music, i pray u never hear any lebanese rap or fusion music, and people in america think music got to a new low ? they don't have shit on us.

EntireDance6131

Not too often. Am german. Most of the music i listen to is english. After that probably japanese and german. After that probably other european countries. Very rarely other asian languages like chinese, vietnamese or korean.

geifagg

Unravel is my favourite song

world_citizen_nz

I only listen to Punjabi music and hip hop songs from the late 90s to early 2000s.

MoosetheStampede

I listen to anything that tickles my fancy. any genre, any language is a potential "more like this" click on spotify. Just these past few months I was listening to some Spanish punk ska with SKA-P, then transitioned to eighties metal with some Japanese Visual Kei with X-Japan only to hop over to some Yugoslavian BNWOHM with Divlje Jagode. Not understanding the lyrics doesn't mean the music can't convey its intention + there's always enough info to find on the internet should you get interested more deeply

[deleted]

I dont speak korean but my playlist is full korean songs, koreans are music genius, especially their producers, korean ballad and krnb are so good..

aliebabadegrote

I listen to anything with a good beat. That said, I do like some Dutch hardcore like angerfist, dfence

mypurplefriend

Lucky347

I'm Finnish. Most of the music I listen to are in Finnish or English, but I also listen to some in Polish, Czech, Slovakian and German. Most of the music I listen to originate from different European countries.

Miselfis

I rarely listen to music with vocals and lyrics anyways. But I prefer English lyrics than my native language. I prefer English lyrics to any language tbh. But some songs in some languages are good and benefit from the particular sounds that is involved in the language.

Taprunner

I mainly listen to metal and most bands sing in English, but the majority of bands I listen to are from the EU. Sometimes it's in French, Norwegian, Swedish, Dutch or German.

Lazy_Mud6418

I love foreign poppy songs with catchy lyrics I don't understand. Incomprehensible lyrics are the best kind ! Unless I wrote music myself then that statement would be rendered invalid It's rare to find but when I find a well composed song in my native language ....nothing beats it ...hard to explain why (in English)(the explanations are feelings rather than words)(you can't really feel them via English ...I can't anyway. I.e., some languages hit different -- there are things (important) English can do that my native sucks at, and vice versa)(ok let me put it this way: this is my subjective take on the matter: if we liken our hearts (source of feelings) to a guitar, and feelings (output) the music it produces (depending on input) - English interacts with out guitar by tapping it as if it were a drum. This makes music. We hear the music. We feel this feeling. My native tongue ...the way it's 'designed' .... It picks the strings of your hearts. And produces different music. Arguably more complex. They provoke deeper feelings. Something like that idk. I'm prolly just biased

BaronMerc

I've gotten quite hooked a Mongolian metal band

leaguelion

I love music in different languages. I listen to a lot of east asian music at the moment (korean, japanese, chinese) but honestly I just really like how different languages sound? I also had a period where I listened to a lot of french and spanish. I actually don't listen to that much music in English anymore.

Shikirow

I'm French and I used to listen mostly to foreign language music, mainly English but I could listen to Japanese, German, Arabic, Dutch, chinese, Russian or anything else as long as it sounded good to me. But for few years now I try to listen more French music

Tyrnak_Fenrir

Mostly English music (doesn't mean American music, "foreign" artists also make music in English, just covering my bases here). I do have a few Norwegian songs and artists I rotate back to every now and then. I also listen to The Hu regularly (greatly recommend btw) I also have a playlist called "Chill but I don't know the language", where at this point I have French, German, Japanese, Romanian and more I don't remember off the top of my head.

GifanTheWoodElf

There are like 1-2 Bulgarian bands that I listen to, but mostly it's bands that sing in English.

Qyro

I mostly listen to English music, because that’s what I’m exposed to the most, even if the artists are from different countries. That said I’ve enjoyed music from a variety of languages, including made-up languages used by the likes of Sigur Ros and Igorrr.

WhereTFisPiper

I’ll listen to any language, just depends on if the song is good. I listen to a lot of Japanese music and some German, with some random languages mixed in here and there

alex118905

I'm Ukrainian, so my native is Ukrainian, but mostly I listen to music on Englsih(rock(FFDP, Smash into Pieces, Metallica, AC/DC, Graffiti Ghosts etc.), country(Werren Zeiders, Bryan Martin, Creed Fisher etc.) or some Ukrainian rock artists(like Serhii Babkin)

Borderick

My native is Romanian so...

mikrokosmosed

My native language is English. I listen to English songs. But I also listen to songs in Japanese, Korean, German and Spanish.

Yall-make-me-weak77

Both because sometimes you want to listen to a language you know and sometimes you want to reach nirvana while understanding nothing but the music, vibes, and delicious beat.

Heyguhh9

I try to listen to as many different languages as possible. Theres so much good music in other cultures that im missing

InsGesichtNicht

English native. I had a phase in my early adulthood where I was obsessed with the German language so most of my playlist is German. Rammstein, Fanta 4, Die Ärzte, Eisbrecher. I will listen to music in almost any language, but not often outside of German, English and Vietnamese (learning the latter).

Streamly1235

Mostly foreign (american songs really)

Venom_Iam

Best way to listen music around the world is a site called radio.garden . I've found some pretty good music with so much variety. I rarely listen to music from my country but it also depends on my mood.

RockSlug22

I love foreign music, I listen music from outside Yorkshire all the time
