Not these, but I would indeed consider Lyanna because it's not totally out of the line of already existing names and Lyanna remained a positive character in GOT
I named my daughter after Arya - but did different spelling. I wanted her to be strong, and genuine to who she was, and reading the books she was one of my favorites.
My mom named me after a character in Northern Exposure, so I guess I followed the family tradition.
Eldest is Brooke, from one tree hill
Youngest is Aria, from pretty little liars.
Middle is Joey, after the baby kangaroos I saw at the zoo while I was pregnant with him. Poor kid
I love her name! So many people pronounce it wrong at first tho, which surprises me because between Game of Thrones and PLL I would've thought most people would have heard the name before.
I once met a real Thór from Iceland. I was a bit surprised at first because I’d never name my child after a god/godess/mythological person but when he told me that it was a popular first name in Iceland, I had no issues with that.
This was before I knew there was a Thor in the Marvel universe.
If you're referring to Simpsons, Homer was named after a famous Greek poet so it's entirely appropriate. Though most people will probably just think of Homer Simpson 🤷
Well yea but that's like saying that everybody named John is named after John The Baptist. I consider 'named after someone' only if the parents actually thought of that specific person or character. But my wife said I should stop being so literal all the time so i'll let it go.
Well there’s a difference between being named after someone and just having the same name as a famous person and/or the first person to have that name. At lot of typical English language names (Jacob, Luke, Matthew, Paul, etc.) came from people who are mentioned in or who wrote parts of the Bible, for example. But nowadays most people don’t give their kids those names because they’re from those people in the Bible. Don’t worry about being literal, I have trouble with it too 🙃
I thought I read somewhere that Groening named most of his main characters on his own family’s actual names. Recently there was an episode of The Chase and the contestants names were Homer, Lisa, Maggie and Bart. Apparently each episode the contestants are picked on names linking each other through some theme. Sorry, just writing my thoughts here.
My kids names are Andre because Andre Matos, a great singer and compouser, from a Brazilian metal band called Angra, and Mathias because Matias Kupiainen, Stratovarius guitarist
My son is named Edward after Edward Elric from Full metal alchemist.
Chosen for 3 reasons
1: it's the first anime me and my now husband watched together when we met and it holds a very special place in our hearts
2: everyone thinks that our older daughter is named after matilda the Roald Dahl character because im a bookworm, so we decided to subtly do it this time.
3: my sister stole our first choice name (william) because she had a boy first. I was salty at first but I couldnt imaging him having any other name but Edward now, especially with his long blonde hair! (He genuinely won't let us cut it and we can't see him suiting it short!)
Luckily no, God I can't stand those books. Dad's side of the family think it's following them as my grandad and great grandad both had Edward in their names (I didn't know so it's not!). I didn't want an obvious reference though but boy does he look like a RL 4yo Edward elric 😂
😂 no but when he had shoulder length hair if we put.h8m in dungarees there was a remarkable resemblance to chucky 😂😂 there's a video on reddit somewhere
Not tv or a movie, but Faron from Zelda is my oldest daughter's name.
My son is Adrian, because I liked the character from Little Nicky 😁
My youngest is Eden, because of the HIM song Nightside of Eden.
the year after I was born a super popular disney movie was released in which i shared my first name with the villain. While it was completely unintentional on my parents behalf, kids are really cruel and used to get bullied relentlessly for it
IF I ever have a child, I’ll either name them Chara (KAH-ruh) if they’re a girl, or Kris if they’re a boy. They’re characters from Undertale and Deltarune respectively, two reasonably popular games both made by Toby ‘Radiation’ Fox.
Years ago we were watching a show about the Irish in America and Aidan Quinn was on it. We both just loved that name and we named our son Aidan. We had a good run of a few years where Aidan was still a decently unique name, then there was this big surge of Aidens, Aydens, Aodhans, when my son was about 8. But yeah, my son Aidan is named after Aidan Quinn
John rather than Murphy? Interesting choice.
But yes, my kids are named after a fictitious serial killer and a superhero, and a Disney character and a…cartoon train
I actually really loved Bellamy from The 100, and would have chosen it had my child at the time been a boy.
I do actually have 2 kids named from (or, more accurately, inspired by) TV characters. Not because I love the characters, but because I liked the names.
My youngest girl's name is inspired by Gilmore Girls, but I thought Lorelai was a bit too much of a mouthful, so she's Aurora, with the nick name Rory.
My boy's name is Archer, but Sterling was also considered. My Mother was not happy about that one, because the character Archer is.. obviously not an ideal role model.
My oldest girl is Ariya - but not because of GOT or PLL (I didn't watch/read either). That was a bad decision. She is 10 now and there are 4-5 Aria/Arya in every class or sports team she is a part of. I did not know it was even a popular name at the time, I really thought it was going to be unique.
I was named after a swimsuit model that my parents saw on TV while my Mother was in labour.
For anyone who actually wants to do something like this, please for the love of god wait until that character’s progression is over. You don’t wanna name your kid after some cool character just to find out that they turn into a villain
My daughter’s name is the same name as the pink hedgehog but I didn’t know that was her name until after my sister told me lol.
So I wouldn’t say she’s named after Amy Rose but that’s her name lol
My husband wanted all of our son’s names to start with R. It’s a family tradition. So I named my son Reese after Kyle Reese in The Terminator. It suits him well.
I want to name a son Dean. I never really liked the name until I watched supernatural and now I love it, and my husband really likes it too and liked it before I did (possibly also because of supernatural, which he saw first) and I think we’re gonna use it.
All of my children are named after a character/person/figure. My children's names are: Goku (Dragon Ball), Rhett (Good Mythical Morning), and Lilith (Mythology).
There is a show called the returned and one of the characters was called Rowan, I had never seen it used as a female name before but I loved it and spur of the moment after leaving my ex I named my daughter Rowan when she was born because I never liked the name her dad had picked
The youngest son of a good friend of mine has the name Neo !
Of course after the Matrix hero ... when I heard the name from his father through the phone , I said to him " is this a joke ? "
Nope , it's true !
My sister and BIL are huge Star Wars geeks. They named my niece after an obscure character from the comics not the movie... Mara Jade. Anyone know who she's related to?? 😊
My youngest (7 months old) is named Malcolm. Neither my husband nor I have seen the show Malcolm in the middle, although we were aware of it. We get a lot of "in the middle" jokes. He's our third and last baby. Usually, we're told to switch his name for our second son instead.
I suggested the name because husband and I both love Jurassic Park/World. Right after we found out that I was pregnant, we were watching JW Dominion and Dr. Ian Malcolm had a prominent role. I just shouted out, "How about Malcolm?" My husband said, "like the guy from Firefly!" (which he loved and I never watched...)
So, although he shares a name with some characters we like, and one we've never seen.. he wasn't directly named after them. But most people assume were huge Malcolm in the middle fans.
My dogs name is Jax and every time I tell someone his name, they always say "oh from Sons of Anarchy" and I just say nope. I've actually never seen it, but they always assume it's after that.
I wanted to name my first daughter Lyra (His Dark Materials) but my husband wasn't keen so we went for something similar but slightly more traditional. My second daughter I wanted to name Mei (My Neighbour Totoro) but we were worried about cultural appropriation so named her something else and used the more British Mae as her middle name
People think we named our youngest after a kid’s movie about runaway animals, but really I named him after one of my favorite bands/musicians. I wonder if he’ll go to college.
I met a good friend who was called EJ.
After about 5 years he told me how his parents were heavy LSD users in SA the 70's.
His name on his birth certificate is Electric Jesus.
My sons first name is Roman and middle name is Creed, first name from Roman Reigns the wrestler (I know its not his real name) and middle name is after Apollo Creed from the Rocky movies and now the Creed movies.
I'm of French Canadian descent so I wanted to have my son's name be French. I naturally used the easiest and most well known French name I could think of, Jean-Luc.

Moment of silence for all the kids named Daenerys or Khaleesi
Or "Rhaegal" or "Viserion".
Sending your child to a school gym or playground with the name Viserion is like throwing chum in the bully shark pool.
Have a boy in my class named Khaleesi. I feel for him ;-;
I refuse to believe you nope nope nope not hearing you sorry
If it makes you feel better, his parents are in the process of changing his name to Kaos ( it's equally terrible )
are his parents in class with him or a class above?
Maybe even more terrible
Deanerys is actually a pretty name
And I think Dany is such a cute nickname
Come play with us Danny
It really is. I've never seen the show, but I was a really huge fan of the books before Martin stopped writing them.
I too think it is pretty. >before Martin stopped writing them. Can't argue against your assessment of the situation sadly
There was a guy in one of my uni classes named Johnboy Sinbad .... he had long hair and was a goth which really put him on the radar
Not these, but I would indeed consider Lyanna because it's not totally out of the line of already existing names and Lyanna remained a positive character in GOT
Our sweet dog is named Khaleesi. We named her early in the series.
I named my daughter after Arya - but did different spelling. I wanted her to be strong, and genuine to who she was, and reading the books she was one of my favorites. My mom named me after a character in Northern Exposure, so I guess I followed the family tradition.
I’m sure there are tons of little Arya’s running around
Around where I am there are at least 5 all around the same age.
This is one of the most popular girl's name for several years!
I will name my kid Francis just so I can dress up as deadpool when Im picking him up from school and in a menacing voice say "WHERE'S FRANCIS!?"
Reminds me of the story of the kid who thought the quote was "Knowledge is Power, France is Bacon" lol
Kid's nickname will be Ajax
I have a Finn the human :)
Hoping one day to have a Marceline the vampire queen! :D
I knew a rich douche who named his sons Lucas, Skylar, and Walker.
I’ve had similar suggestions a lot, my surname is Walker. Still, better than the suggestion ‘Dog’ I suppose
I once taught a kid named Anakin…..
I tried to get Liara. It didn't work. But it was kinda close!
So not fair, I don't even know what that's from but what a great name
Eldest is Brooke, from one tree hill Youngest is Aria, from pretty little liars. Middle is Joey, after the baby kangaroos I saw at the zoo while I was pregnant with him. Poor kid
Ever since I watched PLL I've wanted to name my future kid (if I have one) Aria, I think it is so pretty
I love her name! So many people pronounce it wrong at first tho, which surprises me because between Game of Thrones and PLL I would've thought most people would have heard the name before.
PLL for life okayyy
Im named after Johnny Carson
I once taught an Eevee & a Thor 😅
I mean Thor is indeed a very common name in the skandinavian countries
Not so much for kids now a days though
Fair point
This was a tiny town in the southern US LOL
I once met a real Thór from Iceland. I was a bit surprised at first because I’d never name my child after a god/godess/mythological person but when he told me that it was a popular first name in Iceland, I had no issues with that. This was before I knew there was a Thor in the Marvel universe.
One of my kids is named after Tommy from Rugrats, in part. I further justified it because it’s a family name.
Best show ever
My cat is named after Jake the dog, my daughter is named Matilda and it’s partially inspired by the 90s movie and book
Matilda is top pick if I have a daughter someday, and I can justify it by pointing out that I have a great grandmother with the same name! 😁
I don't know if this is appropriate, but if I ever have a baby and it's a son, I'll name him Homer lol
My daughter has a Homer in her daycare. I love it haha
If you're referring to Simpsons, Homer was named after a famous Greek poet so it's entirely appropriate. Though most people will probably just think of Homer Simpson 🤷
Are you sure Homer Simpson was named after the greek Homer?
The Greek Homer was named after Homer Simpson. It's mentioned briefly in *Theaetetus*
They are named after each other
Maybe not, but the name itself probably originated from him.
Well yea but that's like saying that everybody named John is named after John The Baptist. I consider 'named after someone' only if the parents actually thought of that specific person or character. But my wife said I should stop being so literal all the time so i'll let it go.

The Simpson are named after Groening’s family. Homer is his dad’s name.
My youngest son is named after a Mortal Kombat character.
It better be Raiden

That’s sooo cool! Also Raiden is a nice name
Ask Solid Snake what he thinks of it!

That one’s my favorite
No but named one of my daughters after my favorite band!
I almost named my daughter Layne, from Alice In Chains
That’s cute. I named my son The Butthole Surfer.

My kids names are Andre because Andre Matos, a great singer and compouser, from a Brazilian metal band called Angra, and Mathias because Matias Kupiainen, Stratovarius guitarist
When I named myself, I had Charlie Chaplin in mind so I chose Charlie. Edit: yes, I birthed myself, I named myself. I came from myself. I am god.
[удалено]
For alliteration purposes, I would think it’s Stephanie and Samantha. But I hope your sister is named Endora because it’s so cool lol
My son is named Edward after Edward Elric from Full metal alchemist. An Edward with long hair… does he have scissor hands. I’m jk 🤪

Years ago we were watching a show about the Irish in America and Aidan Quinn was on it. We both just loved that name and we named our son Aidan. I'm not having kids, but I did change my name and named myself after a fictional character My name is Lilith, after the character from The Owl House

My rule is that I can’t name a kid after any character I’ve read fanfiction of because that is too weird
For anyone who actually wants to do something like this, please for the love of god wait until that character’s progression is over. You don’t wanna name your kid after some cool character just to find out that they turn into a villain
Murphy 😑
