Gee and people wonder why realtesla exists. I bet I could post about a prototype of mazdas new cx90 breaking down or getting stuck in a hilarious way on /r/mazda.
Of course they did. Over there you have a whole bunch of Elon bro’s that have tied their personality to a vehicle that quite frankly looks ugly AF. And now it appears it can’t even handle dirt roads.
I don't think a lot of people realize how fucking heavy tesla's cars are. My brother has a model S, which is just shy of 5,000lbs and he is constantly popping tires on potholes. I have to imagine the cyber truck is going to be near 7,000 lbs which ain't gonna be so great in mud without absolutely massive tires.
You should mention trucks in this. The number of people running a 5,000 pound truck with mud tires on their freeway commute in Houston or something is extremely high.
Remember the top selling models of car in the US are:
F-series
Silverado
RAM pickup
Model Y
(in roughly that order)
The Model Y is the lightest of the set.
The F series outsell all those other's put together and invariably they're the lighter weight trucks on that list and by volume. F150 base model is 500lbs less than the lightest Model Y.
F150 is around 5000lbs+. If you already drive a big truck (and many do) I’d say it’s a wash weight wise.
It is my understanding that a majority of road damage is from 18 wheelers. I’m happy to be corrected on that though.
>F150 is around 5000lbs+. If you already drive a big truck (and many do) I’d say it’s a wash weight wise.
The F150 also rides on much larger and wider tires that do not put the load on a much smaller area as would a car. And nobody is going to be compounding that with 0 to 60 runs in 3.5 seconds, or racing around curves. And the F150 actually has a reason to weight that much - it's an extremely capable vehicle with a lot of uses.
Re another comment about burning through tires, I'm up to almost 30,000 miles on my F150, and the original tires still have thousands more miles left in them before they need replacement.
My 2019 with the 36 gallon tank has a highway range of over 800 miles. It's a dream highway cruising vehicle too.
>wider tires that do not put the load on a much smaller area as would a car.
You didn't look that up did you?
Lower end Teslas ride on 8-8.5" width (the Model S is 10" and the heaviest Model Y Plaid is 10.5" wide). The stock F-150 wheel is 7.5" wide and the upgraded wheels are 8.5".
You did say EVs, however. Teslas run lighter than other manufacturers EVs but all seem to run on wider tires.
The Mach-E is heavier than anything Tesla makes, but still about the same as a F-150 and is on 8" width.
Lucid is on 10" tires. Polestar on 8.5" width.
What are you talking about?
The model Y starts at 4552lbs and the MachE starts at 4394lbs. The Model X is over 5000lbs.
In fact the only car that tesla make that's lighter than a MachE is the model3.
Agree, but if you’re moving from a mid-priced SUV or sedan to a Model 3 or Y, then you’re probably increasing weight by 75%, then multiply that across millions of cars, it’s an impact.
I think most road damage is from vehicles that are relatively heavier, but that’s because up until now, passenger vehicles were relatively light in comparison.
Model 3 and BMW 3 weigh almost the same depending on trim, as does the Model S and BMW 7. F250 can weigh over 7k depending on configuration. Fear mongering over EV weight is pointless.
Faster charging, vastly more charging points, and lower range EVs could be a solution to that.
I'm in the UK and 100 mile range would be plenty for 99% of people 99% of the time.
Hmm, yes, I know some of those words. Lol.
ID4/Mache?? I know a model S weighs basically the same as a full size F-150. Is cyber truck in the category of the large diesel trucks?
Wait til some schmuck in his big 9000 lb toy parks on his friend's asphalt driveway on a hot day, and leaves craters in the surface. Turning the steering while standing still will do an even better job of damage.
That's lighter than almost any modern pickup.
The problem is that the performance Tesla ships with extremely low profile tires on 21" wheels. Those are prone to popping on any car, but the extra weight doesn't help.
The more "standard" 19" wheels on a Model S doesn't have that problem at all (any more than an F-150 is "constantly popping tires")
GM's new electric Hummer weighs 9000 lbs. NINE THOUSAND POUNDS! I can't wait for the You Tube videos of them dying many miles out in the desert or better yet, getting all of those 9000 pounds stuck in a mud bog or sand dune and nobody can get the goddamn thing out! The new Hummer is as impractical as the old one - no, worse - a useless 'look at me' toy for people with more money than common sense.
9000 lbs!
Iirc Thunderf00t estimated it to be 14k. There was a video put out that said a loaded truck was 20,000lbs. He found the load to be about 5,000lbs or something like that. Or maybe the loaded truck was 15,000 so the truck was 10? It’s been a while, and I have to go to bed. I just remember the truck weighing like two or three times the load it was carrying and being ridiculously heavy.
Edit: the cyber truck in Thunderf00t’s video was for the commercial/corporate… version(?). So my comment could be completely wrong for this version. I’ll post a link when I wake up. Or more likely when someone reminds me.
I don't know the Lightning's weight but the F150's aluminum body saves 700 lbs compared to the prior steel body version of the F150, so it's a meaningful improvement. I believe some carmakers, one being Ford, made stainless steel prototype / experimental versions of a few cars back in the 30's or 40's, and while I am sure there are many grades / thicknesses of stainless, the cars that were made from what they used then were outrageously heavier than their regular steel production models.
Be honest.. you made that up. I have had a Tesla Model S since 2017 and never had a flat. Tires cannot handle 4500lb vehicles now according to you? If you want to criticize something at least be honest. The only problems with Tesla from my standpoint are long service waits for any type of service and bad off-the-line QC. If you do not like the interior or exterior, do not buy one. If you do not appreciate the safety ratings and the reduced likelihood of a fire, a Tesla may not be for you.. If you want to make up stories about flat tires to get internet points, a Tesla may not be for you. Some people's kids.
Eh.
It's the performance tires from Tesla. The 21" ultra-low profile tires that's stock on performance models do tend to pop.
But that's not a lot different from any car with ultra-low profile tires.
I'm guessing you have 19" wheels, which won't pop like that.
>a turd when it rolled out onto the stage, and it's a worse looking turd now.
Best description anyone has posted, it looks like a poorly rendered vehicle from a distance in an old video game.

I'm a Tesla long stock holder (down 30Kish) and owner of multiple branded Tesla vehicles. I've been stuck in a HUMVEE on the Sicily drop zone and seen them stuck in Bosnia. Physics will always win, if you can't get traction you will be stuck! Cybertruck is ugly as sin and I look forward to driving it around. 😁
I saw you posted it about 3 hours before I followed your link (923 EDT) and it's locked. How long did it take them to lock your post? I'll give them partial credit for not pulling it, I guess.
In his defense, when the CyberTruck's unbreakable glass shattered easily at the introduction, Elon didn't block the video or make excuses. We saw what happened.
It’s for attaching your [cybershovel](https://twitter.com/tweetermeyer/status/1655935764474245125), for when you need to dig yourself out of a cyber hole.
And yes I agree, they’ve somehow managed to make the thing look even more ugly.
Great to see the level of shitting on Elon and this vehicle over in a mainstream sub. There’s still a few shills trying to defend but the tide of public opinion is now very much against Elon and his bullshit.
Goddamn there isn’t a single fucking thing they can build properly.
Edit: it’s stuck in mud, not broken like a semi. My apologies.
> Back in 2020, Elon Musk tweeted that they were working on “increased dynamic air suspension travel for better off-roading”, promising that the Tesla Cybertruck would “kick butt in Baja“
Lol. Because the suspension is what keeps you from burying it to the axles, right “engineer” Muskrat?
Not…I dunno the interface between the ground and the vehicle, and the section relative to the vehicles weight, etc.
What are those called again? I forget.
I never understood the Ford-Chevy rivalry until I purchased a Ford. The Ford was a lemon but dear god, Ford customer service is beyond appalling. Ended up trading it in for a Chevy, best trade I’ve ever made.
This is going to be a legendary rollout for all the wrong reasons. Google Glass and New Coke will have nothing on this piece of shit.
I’m so amazed by the rubes who have convinced themselves that this thing will ever be mass produced. Simping for a dumb looking “truck” is a personality to them.
You can barely make it out of there in the dually behind it let alone a single rear wheel. It’s probably got the power but no clearance for that thick mud.
In its defense, all cars have to be towed sometimes for various reasons. It’s not the biggest dunk. The cringe is removing the posts and banning from the Tesla psyche.
People, every vehicle gets stuck. I don't care if you're locked front and rear with portal axles and a 30" clearance to the diff. I'm glad these pics are out though in case these Tesla dweebs thought it was going to be super capable because the real takeaway is that a vehicle twice as heavy is nearly half as capable offroad. Nearly impossible and why heavyweight vehicles are an absolutely rarity on the trail. I have a shockingly better capability offroad in my "lightweight" F150 (even before the 37" mud grapplers) than I do in my 6.4L Superduty, this thing feels twice as heavy and I just sink in everything. I have to be very careful on anything wet offroad and be conscious to carry nearly twice the momentum. Anyway, the 5800lb weight of my F150 is the heaviest vehicle I'd ever consider taking offroad and it would be so much better if it went on a diet. You don't buy an electric vehicle at current weights for any kind of respectable offroading capability.
That doesn't mean anything other than this: Whoever was driving doesn't understand that in the mud, even with 4 wheel drive, momentum management is everything.
I believe we saw Elon driving it for that event (which is rare, we never see Elon driving anything).
I fully believe he doesn't understand mud and offroading (or trucks at all based on the Cybertruck).
Cyber; fugly joke ride for musk koolaid drinkers
Traders who don't intend to buy this awful thing put down 100 to juice the stock. More than half will never buy this awful toad
Did it get stuck because of the mud, or because of something wrong with the truck itself?!? If it was just the mud, this could have happened to any vehicle. making this a dumb post. Now if it was because it was something up with the Cybertruck, like it ran out of battery power then this makes more sense.
The vast majority of people know it could happen to any truck.
We’re making fun of it because it’s supposed to be the ultimate badass truck that will get you through the apocalypse… And in one of the very few photos it’s ever been seen (as far as I know) in non urban conditions, it’s helplessly stuck and needs to be pulled out.
And it’s years late.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Heavy duty construction equipment gets stuck all the time. Try driving a bmw x5 thru those roads and see what happens. 😆
Even so, why is that an issue? It hasn't been officially released. It's still being worked on. This just seems like ppl who hate tesla or Elon grasping at anything.
I mean... Yeah. But also Elon said this truck could compete at Baja, ie saying that bone stock it's going to be one of the most competent off-roaders on the planet. I understand there's a difference between getting across a mud hole and desert racing, but Elon just sets himself up to get dunked on constantly with this thing. It's just some basic schadenfreude to see one of the most publicly arrogant hype men on the planet fall flat, even if it's something as basic as getting his car stuck. In part because he's explicitly hyping this truck as a dominant off-road beast.
The ceo of the company is hyping is product up. His product that is still in development gets stuck in the mud and that's cause for news. I get it, it's just Elon hate at this point.
I mean yeah it is kinda news that a truck that's supposedly going to be able to drive 1000 miles off road across a desert can't handle dirt roads yet when it's supposedly going into production in the next few months.
Out of curiousity so I don’t closely follow the car industry:
Can you find a ceo of a major manufacturer that has also promised results to the same degree? Bonus points if the car is also vaporware while they’re making these claims.
If it was a normal truck people wouldn’t care. But the “truck you want in the apocalypse” falling victim to the thing every other truck falls victim to is funny to me.
So something still a prototype and still being worked in gets stuck in the mud so we make a big deal over it. But other trucks that have been out for long periods of time, they get stuck in the mud and we don't give it any attention?
My point is, why care over something trivial?
Seen lots of trucks dead on road having to get jumped or new batteries to start or just get gas/diesel cause they ran out. Whats your message here supposed to be?
Cars don’t need to be jumped except when starting. And yes you can run out of gas but Elon drive in to a pylon and now stuck in his CT. It’s hilarious.
Well Elon was on his way home down the tesla lithium event and the damn thing got stuck in da mud, which is funny as fuck. How much context do you need?
To the Asshole Champion round, where people who are generally in favor of electric vehicles and space flight are all cheering the failures of once proud technical unicorn companies.
Smaller EV's are far better for the environment than huge EV's. Isn't this thing wider than the fucking EV Hummer? The EV hummer is ~ better ~ I guess than the regular hummer, but you're not environmentally friendly for buying a fucking hummer, EV or not.
Hahaha they already disabled this post on the cybertruck sub .

It’s not fear mongering, it is “additional considerations”. I’m not saying we should continue to choke the planet on fossil fuels bc of it.
Since the weight between comparable vehicles is the same it can't be an "additional consideration", there is littereally nothing to consider.

I wonder wait how heavier the CT is compared to the lightning. 3mm stainless aint light VS aluminium.

> I fully believe he doesn't understand... You could finish that sentence with anything you want.

For some reason there are a lot of people who claim to be amazing at handling mud and snow that don't understand momentum management.
Yep. Any truck can get stuck. If that diesel got stuck while the cyber truck was on dry ground, the situation could be reversed.

Yeah. My friend has a modded jeep and got stuck in the mud a few months ago. He ripped out a few small trees trying to get unstuck.
I find that comforting. Not TODAY Terminator!
They still making those? They have only sold that one.
They’ve “sold” hundreds of thousands of them and continue to take orders. They just haven’t delivered any lol
Im spreading this everywhere
Who cares?
Just an electric Honda ridgeline.
Tesla. Cars for sycophants.
CyberJunk

Cyber suck is the new nomenclature.
A legit piece of shit
Wow, its even more ugly out in the wild.
CyberStuck? CyberSuck? CyberSux? It kinda just writes itself…
I think that's now "Cyber Dumb F**k" given his management of his latest acquisition
Cyber; fugly joke ride for musk koolaid drinkers Traders who don't intend to buy this awful thing put down 100 to juice the stock. More than half will never buy this awful toad
😂😂😂😂😂😂 Enjoying my low-priced 2011 diesel Series 1 and my low-priced diesel fuel ☕️☕️☕️
Gonna end up being a storm chasing vehicle, maybe a SWAT team special. Nothing more. What a piece of shit.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Heavy duty construction equipment gets stuck all the time. Try driving a bmw x5 thru those roads and see what happens. 😆
I'm buying one.

Comes bundled with Half-Life 3
Will be good for going to the grocery store
I'm gonna start doing man stuff around the house. Need a cool truck for stuff and things.
You'll need a gas-guzzler for that.
I love that you think the only thing keeping you from being handy around the house is the lack of a truck.
Not anytime soon you’re not 😂
thats ok
Who cares. Cybertruck isn't the first truck to get stuck in the mud

Out of curiousity so I don’t closely follow the car industry: Can you find a ceo of a major manufacturer that has also promised results to the same degree? Bonus points if the car is also vaporware while they’re making these claims. If it was a normal truck people wouldn’t care. But the “truck you want in the apocalypse” falling victim to the thing every other truck falls victim to is funny to me.
It’s been a prototype for years though. And first time we’ve seen Elon driving it and get stuck.
So something still a prototype and still being worked in gets stuck in the mud so we make a big deal over it. But other trucks that have been out for long periods of time, they get stuck in the mud and we don't give it any attention? My point is, why care over something trivial?

You care. Otherwise you wouldn’t have posted anything. Why do you care if people talk about it if it doesn’t matter?
Seen lots of trucks dead on road having to get jumped or new batteries to start or just get gas/diesel cause they ran out. Whats your message here supposed to be?
Cars don’t need to be jumped except when starting. And yes you can run out of gas but Elon drive in to a pylon and now stuck in his CT. It’s hilarious.
What ever. I drive a Tacoma. I just don't laugh at misfortunes of others. Take it easy, from Texas.
Tacoma’s don’t weigh 7000lbs. There’s a reason this is a terrible idea, aside from musk himself needing to be towed by a diesel truck.

Tesla semi lol
Not enough context, what were the conditions? Any vehicle can become stuck in the mud.
Well Elon was on his way home down the tesla lithium event and the damn thing got stuck in da mud, which is funny as fuck. How much context do you need?
You mean a pre-production prototype pickup truck got stuck in the mud? Yeah that has never happened before in the history of pickup trucks.......
Reddit shitting on eco friendly cars and cheering the gas guzzler 😂

Most things become failures before they succeed
Always a dumb fuck with the stupidest take possible ready to put it out there. Keep it up!
It took a lot of assholery from the top of the company to get there, but yes, absolutely.
To get where?
To the Asshole Champion round, where people who are generally in favor of electric vehicles and space flight are all cheering the failures of once proud technical unicorn companies.
So hate is more important than the plant and all the animals that live on it? Lol okay
Nah, we just gonna buy electric cars from cooler companies and hope SpaceX gets nationalized
Smaller EV's are far better for the environment than huge EV's. Isn't this thing wider than the fucking EV Hummer? The EV hummer is ~ better ~ I guess than the regular hummer, but you're not environmentally friendly for buying a fucking hummer, EV or not.
