Rimmer no longer mis-repairs the drive plate.
Sucks that we don't get Red Dwarf, but I believe I have just saved everyone.
(I may have also erased the entire cat race. Whoops)
In one of the episodes, didn't a crewman from Red dwarfs future state that cat was from a species that developed from the common house cat? That line leads me to believe there are other instances.
Reading the comments, I feel like most people missed the point of Red Dwarf entirely, people making arguments to why entire seasons need deleting based on bad plot lines and budgeting etc… it’s Red Dwarf, that’s the point, it was never meant to compete with serious shows, it’s a stage for jokes.
I'm not sure I'd agree with that. Up to S6 at least there are some proper sci-fi concepts in the style of hitch hikers, many of which were very very clever.
The dark age of 7-9 isn't worth talking about.
Ten onwards is cuddly sit com faire, lovely stuff, but recycles many concepts and jokes and certainly doesn't take itself very seriously.
Now 90s RD obsessive me would have a different view. But yes, I would uncanon any of it. Because who cares right.
Posh Kochanski. I preferred the original Kochanski who could keep up with Lister’s sarcasm in The End, as opposed to the bizarre interactions we get in Season 8 that makes them seem like strangers.
I'm happy you like it and I won't take that away from you. I think, though, if nothing else we really do have to admit the known reality that it's a reasonable 20-minute idea stretched across two episodes and padded with a series of skits from a dropped script because there was no money left to film the intended finale... and everything that comes with that.
But if it makes you laugh or makes you happy then that's more important than what some stranger thinks! Every episode is someone's favourite.
Even Timewave.
The entirety of Series 8. A few pieces of sweetcorn in the shit doesn't detract from the fact it's a ghastly mess hardly deserving of the Red Dwarf name.
Pretty sure that was because everyone involved vowed to never do a series 9...
Then Channel Dave got a pile of luncheon vouchers, a year's free Blockbuster membership for all crew (including Friends and Family) and some writers from the job centre and Back to Earth was born...
Even if you don’t like it, the bit where he gets absolutely blitzed and leaves a video message to himself to get stern with himself and threw his guitar into deep space was quite funny.
I was gonna say the no aliens thing so that there was something new to run into. However, it'd be better to have the very last episode of the series end off with aliens from another galaxy heading to meet Rimmer, thinking he's the envoy to humanity, and then Rimmer for some reason snubs them (maybe accepting that he'd never run into an actual alien).
It wasn't canon even within the confines of itself. The majority of the actions in that were just as real as the actions in The Despair Squid, and for the same reason.
To be fair, I stopped paying much attention after the cat sang the I'm gonna get you little fishy song.
When a show does callbacks like that, it's doomed.
Back to Earth already kind of de canonized itself with the ending.
Can we delete the canon split of Grant and Naylor, keeping the classic team together throughout?
Please do not touch ANY of the Red Dwarf. Thanking you!
Indeed. I'm pushing the button to decanonize the button.
Dave was never put in stasis. Write your way around THAT ONE.
Temporal anomaly flings the ship millions of light years into space, Dave is standing in JUST the right spot to not get erased from time.
and it might be only thanks to Frankenstein who he chased as she got loose and ran away
We are now watching captin hollister the holligram and holly show
Rimmer no longer mis-repairs the drive plate. Sucks that we don't get Red Dwarf, but I believe I have just saved everyone. (I may have also erased the entire cat race. Whoops)
I'm sure Rimmer will find some other way to catastrophically cock up and murder the crew in the process.
In one of the episodes, didn't a crewman from Red dwarfs future state that cat was from a species that developed from the common house cat? That line leads me to believe there are other instances.
Back to Earth is just a drugged up fever dream - it isn’t canon, even in canon.

Series 8
This. Series 8 makes me wince slightly.
Sorry, does this show have canon?
Sorry, to be clear, you're keeping Pete over Back to Earth?
Am I the only fan who really liked Pete?
Do you know what happens........
no, I like it, what's wrong with Pete?
I'm happy you like it and I won't take that away from you. I think, though, if nothing else we really do have to admit the known reality that it's a reasonable 20-minute idea stretched across two episodes and padded with a series of skits from a dropped script because there was no money left to film the intended finale... and everything that comes with that.
Yeah....I guess that makes sense.
But if it makes you laugh or makes you happy then that's more important than what some stranger thinks! Every episode is someone's favourite. Even Timewave.
Yes, ofc. No offense or anything taken
I liked it. The progression of Rimmer and Lister getting frogmarched into Captain Hollister's office for repeated bollockings is gold.
There’s only one button. If there were more buttons we could undo more damage.
Red dwarf has canon?
This. They mess with the time space continuum to such a degree that they already accidentally bumped into that button several times in canon.
Sorry, I believe you misspelt Timewave.
Series 8 by a mile
You know exactly why it's Back to Earth. 😂
The entirety of Series 8. A few pieces of sweetcorn in the shit doesn't detract from the fact it's a ghastly mess hardly deserving of the Red Dwarf name.
I’d rather get rid of 8 than 9.
There’s no season 9 according to Back to Earth (which is 9), which I think is the funniest damn thing to me.
Pretty sure that was because everyone involved vowed to never do a series 9... Then Channel Dave got a pile of luncheon vouchers, a year's free Blockbuster membership for all crew (including Friends and Family) and some writers from the job centre and Back to Earth was born...
Look, if you offered me a free lunch voucher, I’d make a bad Blade Runner parody.
Lister being his own dad. It’s just… no. It doesn’t work.
Even if you don’t like it, the bit where he gets absolutely blitzed and leaves a video message to himself to get stern with himself and threw his guitar into deep space was quite funny.
Goodbye Emohawk: Polymorph II
Red Dwarf is loose Canon.
I agree with the season eight people here. Maybe take the idea behind Cassandra and work it into another season .

Back To Earth is one of my favorite episodes. Can someone explain to me why it is so hated?
Krytie TV for me.
Season 8
Season 7&8 Kochanski
Season 8, or maybe just Chloe Annette's version of Kochanski.
Back to earth was poorly written. Far as I'm concerned it's not canon.
It wasn't canon even within the confines of itself. The majority of the actions in that were just as real as the actions in The Despair Squid, and for the same reason.
