Let's not forget about the bizarre cameo by the one and only George Lucas in part 3.

"COME ON, LET'S GO"

Faster, more intense

Getting closer to a Pluto Nash episode!

BomberManeuver

What's the thoughts on Pluto Nash? I want to watch that and "Death to Smoochy". 2002 had some interesting movies.

dougram47

It's a pretty anemic sci-fi adventure comedy where Eddie and the copious number of notable celebrities playing bit parts were all just kinda sleep walking through it. Some of the jokes have aged hilariously bad like the face on the Moon money and Alec Baldwin's scene. Other than that, it was infamously in development for over a decade and bombed pretty bad on release.

BomberManeuver

Anemic sounds like the kiss of death for the movie. The trailer makes it seem like it might be fun.

dougram47

I don't want to discourage you from watching it, but the opening scene (that was apparently added in reshoots?) will quickly dispel any notion that the cast gives a damn. Thrill as Eddie Murphy looks mildly uncomfortable in a dingy Moon club's bathroom! Also Jay Mohr is there in a kilt because that's funny, right?

SteveRudzinski

Death to Smoochy is an outright masterpiece that holds up to this day. Pluto Nash is a very okay sci-fi comedy that hasn't aged as well.

Wolvel

randy quaid was the highlight of the movie for me as a kid.

ChildOfChimps

I was 22 and working at a movie theater at the time. I was getting into film snob phase - watching indie movies, going to different theaters to see different things, reading reviews - and I loved Death To Smoochy.

BokeTsukkomi

No such thing as a bad movie have an episode on pluto nash, check it out (the podcast, not pluto nash)

SilverCitizen

As long as Mike does the episode by himself as suggested in an episode of BotW that I can't remember which.

Kwisatz_Haderach90

I mean, where would Top Gun and Days of Thunder be if it weren't for Tony Scott?

unfunnysexface

Top gun worse, thunder maybe better how do make essentially the same movie but worse?

Nepington

I do prefer days of thunder over top gun 1. Hell, 2 is better than 1 imo

Kwisatz_Haderach90

100% agree, there's just something about Days of Thunder that strikes a chord, and i don't give a fuck about neither nascar or cars in general, and their love story doesn't work at all (although i like Nichole Kidman's character per se).

unfunnysexface

Top Gun 2 is the bland corporate version of 1. There's no risks taken at any point. They even have another bald guy that has it out for maverick.

Nepington

Dude, I love me some good, dumb fun 80s movies (ie rocky 4), but top gun 1 was fucking boring. It was a frat boy/coming of age high school movie disguised as a military action movie. The romance in the first film dragged the pacing down to a halt at times, and there was no real dog fights until the very last half of the film. On top of that, there were no real stakes, just boring shit that happened between the most talked about parts about the movie. Val Kilmer made that movie whenever he was on screen, but that was it. I watched the first film for the first time before watching 2 in theaters, and I didn't miss much from doing so in the end.

unfunnysexface

> there was no real dog fights until the very last half of the film. On top of that, there were no real stakes, just boring shit that happened between the most talked about parts about the movie. Literally applies to the 2nd as well. And goose dies showing how dangerous even training is no one dies in top gun 2.

nightstalker314

Days of Thunder is elevated by the soundtrack alone. The production was a complete mess mostly due to producers doing a lot of drugs. They even forgot to shoot/record the cars crossing the finish line in the final race and had to reshoot that. Let that sink in.

unfunnysexface

And had a full blown gym built during filming. Simpson/Bruckheimer and some Coke were dynamite.

Most_Victory1661

The making of Days of Thunder should be a movie. Fucking crazy.

Kwisatz_Haderach90

unfortunately we'd either get very "approved" facts regarding Tom Cruise, or none at all. Although as far as i understand, he wasn't the issue in the first place.

paparoach910

The landscapes of 2 were just beautiful. I could watch Ronny Cox jog along the LA oilfields for days investigating the Alphabet crimes for days.

Latro27

For days you say?

groundloop66

Homie got days for days.

StinkyBrittches

If you like Ronny Cox jogging, check out **Raw Courage**, 1984.

ocooper08

Kinda feels like Steven Soderberg watched BEVERLY HILLS COP II and thought, hmm, I could use that filter for Mexico...

CountBrackmoor

It’s kinda wild how little fanfare there is for a new Beverly Hills Cop movie. I know this is an age where trying to perform necromancy on a dead franchise is common, but still… I’ve seen like nothing about this

SuperBaconLOL

It's a Netflix Original. They don't need to advertise it and it will become their most viewed film of all time.

Cannaewulnaewidnae

Yeah, it'll just suddenly appear as the featured movie you see when you open the app, and it'll stay there for a month or more At this point, that's probably a more powerful driver of views than a Superbowl ad

stoatmcboat

I literally just heard about this too, through this post. I'm not shocked that it's not advertised to the extremes but damn, I had no idea this was even in production. I remember reading something years and years ago about a BHC4 being stuck in development hell, and then suddenly BAM, a new movie's just out.

Unit219

You leave part 2 alone!

WD4oz

3 is better than what I expected, still a really huge downgrade from its predecessors, but wasn’t too bad. Yea, it’s shot flatter than a platter.

ocooper08

THEME PARK COP I

Bushido_Seppuku

Wallyworld: Drug Smugglers

Tylerdurden389

Platter that wasn't flat was the one Lucas probably had on set the day he filmed his cameo.

tequilasauer

Part 2 is actually my favorite of the 3. I think that’s something of a hot take. The trailers for the new Beetlejuice and BHC came out right around the same time and Beetlejuice is just basically a tired rehash of the same jokes from the first movie. Axel F looks a lot more fun and fresh.

stationkatari

I’ve actually been looking forward to Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (the teaser felt promising) and definitely going to be doing a full rewatch before hand. I haven’t seen Beverly Hills Cop III since the 90s, but I remember liking it, even though most people hated it at the time.

Tylerdurden389

Saw the first in the theater 2 weeks ago (a lot of 1984 flicks are playing in theaters this year for their 40th). Still holds up.

Sequoia_Throne_

A video I'll care about about movies I don't care about, yay.

m2thek

Beverly Hills Cop is one of my favorite movies of all time; it's basically perfect. I watched 2 once and fucking hated it and have not watched 3. Coming 2 America does not give me any hope for the new BHC, but if it the boys like it I'll give it a shot.

Cannaewulnaewidnae

The original is one of the few perfect movies Not a misjudged or unnecessary scene in the movie, every joke lands, one of the great central performances, and even the supporting characters are fantastic

Most_Victory1661

I will eagerly await the saved by the bell Re:view

Fimbir

So, you don't like rap music?

HCS_92

Yo baby yo baby yo

CharlieMansonsEyes

3 was fun.

throw123454321purple

I kind of figured that Jay was doing PreP a long time ago.

ABC_Dildos_Inc

Saved by the Bell is the perfect example. When it came out, I was 12 years old. Even then it didn't feel like a real sitcom or network TV production. I didn't understand why it was in TV. It looked, sounded and felt like an amateur cable access show or high school play.
