That's why I can't see myself doing a see though tank.. I avoid it in mine by just putting some rock structures against that back glass so every fish has a home..
ikr?? the reason my fish are still ok with my 100 is all of the rock.. im working on a old school rock scape for my 300G with loads of hiding places... that said beautiful tank OP.
It's probably going to be raining down votes but,
Not many Will ever know what It takes to pull this off.
This is expert reefing. Well beyond what you will read online, or hear from your lfs. This guy has more experience than them.
Do these fish look stressed? Clearly not. These are very healthy, and I bet the majority of you commenting have never kept any of these species long term. I'm talking 10-15 years, not 5. "Fat fish don't fight"-unknown
Surgeonfish dont live in caves in the wild.....
Overstocking, is a great way to divert aggression.
There is nothing wrong with stocking fish like this, and they live much happier lives not constantly defending territory. You just need to manage the nutrients.
I bet OP spends over 500 a month on food alone. I know this from experience.
In my experience keeping saltwater fish(18years), it's all about the size of the box and the inhabitants. If the tank has everything you need for a species to thrive. Other species don't take away your ability to stock that fish, nutrients do.
" per gallon is incredible outdated.
I understand this aquarium directly contradicts what most of your research has told you, but this can be done without waterchanges as well now.
Well done OP, 👏 respect.
Thank you sir!!! The seaweed budget is massive lol the aggression is fairly minimal given the aquarium. They group literally follow us around the entire tank. Fat fish don't fight. They are fed multiple times a day whether it be pellets, seaweed or frozen.
Nitrates are 9 and phosphates are .1. Water changes actually happen like once a month
You should look into carbon dosing. Likely cut your salt expenses 90%. You can get vodka in cheap cases if you have any friends in the restaurant industry. I pay around 180cad for 6 40oz bottles.
I have a good collection of surgeonfish aswell. They can be quite expensive to care for them properly.
Good on you for sharing this, I know u prolly hear you can't do this and that all the time. I do as well. Keep doing it. Jokes on them, our fish don't die, and we're the "cruel" ones.
They are like our little puppy dogs following us around everywhere. We actually run two large sulfur reactors And that seems to maintain the nitrates fairly well. The water changes are just purely good husbandry And routine
I agree, just like puppies lol. Many ways to skin a cat for sure.
I bet that duss and vlamingi split a 30 sheet Julien sprung for lunch.
I don't have any fish that large, but I do have a 2 bar rabbitfish that will eat a sheet at a time. So I can only imagine.
It almost looks overstocked, I’m no expert at tanks bigger than 300 though. lots of fish that are going to get huge in here and probably going to need to be relocated no?
Relocate them to what? It’s already a 1500 gallon tank. Any bigger and you’d be in public aquarium territory, tanks at this size are actually decently large enough to start housing the larger ancanthurus species very comfortably too
Not an expert, but those fish have got to be stressed out, right? There's so many in there with nowhere to hide, and no space. Sorry, but it seems cruel. Not a fan
I am curious on the water jets at the top, did you just plumb them in using T and Y valves with ball valves and stuff? Or they all separate pumps? Just curious because I like it.
Was really holding back on this one but anyway, let's go. Where are all the corals that have been in this tank a year ago? Dead? Oh what a surprise. This tank is overstocked up to the titts. There's no hiding place for the majority of fish and it will ultimately end in an disaster. There's a 2k gallon tank in a reef shop in my proximity with not even half that amount of fish. JFC some people.
Well we actually had a huge huge apitasia outbreak. And I mean over 10 thousand of them a few months ago. That did a number on the corals, but they were actually removed and placed into a holding tank. It wasn't the fish or parameters. There were probably 100 peppermints that did nothing. We put in about a hundred nudis with no progress. But those butterflies took out every single one.
To each his own I suppose. Pics for you.

This is just insane.
You planning on adding any more rocks to that tank? That's a lot of fish with nowhere to hide.
That's why I can't see myself doing a see though tank.. I avoid it in mine by just putting some rock structures against that back glass so every fish has a home..
Wonder where each one decides to sleep every night. Must be a nightly battle
They sleep stacked like sardines in a can all snuggled up for warmth
ikr?? the reason my fish are still ok with my 100 is all of the rock.. im working on a old school rock scape for my 300G with loads of hiding places... that said beautiful tank OP.
Realistically you can hide behind other fish.

Haha we don't even use seaweed clips anymore. Just drop it in and watch them rip it apart
It almost looks overstocked, I’m no expert at tanks bigger than 300 though. lots of fish that are going to get huge in here and probably going to need to be relocated no?

Obviously your second 1500 tank aquarium
Relocate to another fishkeeper or LFS. This thing is waaaay overstocked. It’s just cruel.
Still too small for the tangs. Obviously.
Yup it definitely needs to be at least 3000 gallons lol
Not an expert, but those fish have got to be stressed out, right? There's so many in there with nowhere to hide, and no space. Sorry, but it seems cruel. Not a fan
Not trying to sound negative but OP obviously knows what they are doing.
You are correct. This thing is incredibly overstocked.
Why did you liquify your fish?
How long has it been stocked like this? How long have the chromis been in there? Where does everyone go at night?
They party all night long. About 1.5 years
Perfect
I am curious on the water jets at the top, did you just plumb them in using T and Y valves with ball valves and stuff? Or they all separate pumps? Just curious because I like it.
Ya we have a closed loop with 3 pumps running them. No powerheads
whats your feeding regimen / how do they all get fed with out bullys? im new here
Gorgeous display of fish
Wet dream!
Not enough damsels
What are the tank measurements?
12 x 4 x 4
Wow
What brand of hob filter you use? /s
OPs got 2 AquaClear 20s on there. That takes care of it.
Looks awesome. All the fish look healthy.
Looks awesome
wow!
I know people are going to criticize you but I think it is absolutely stunning
Lovely tank. Noticed you had a Copperband Butterfly, had so money problems with them either eating or not so jealous to see one thriving.
I agree they have poor survival. I think they actually learned how to eat watching the other butterflies in the tank.
What is this towards end of vid? https://preview.redd.it/rfkaofp9d1yc1.png?width=470&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ba0c0371de1a9984e9c629a4fc6503c5b48e32c
might be a blotchy anthias
Barbonious anthias aka blotchy anthias
Yes sir.
Thx!
Gorgeous!
Wow
Amazing
Stunning tank and selection
Thank you
Sooooooo many tangs, I need them all (then I need to get a bigger tank)
Absolutely envious. One day when I'm a big boy. Do you run uv/ozone?
Both
That's gorgeous to look at. The fish seem to be agitated.
They are hangry
What's the CUC look like?
Hundreds. If it's safe it's in there
This looks like more money than sense

It would end in disaster with your experience.
That’s a lot of food
Sand line needs a cleaning
Beautiful but overpopulated in my opinion. Would like to see less fish, a tad more rock and some coral/anemones
It's hard to make 1500 feel overstocked, but somehow they did it
I'm no expert, but surely this is way too many fish for the space right? I know it's a big tank but that is a LOT of fish.
ridiculously overstocked
