Dang it. I was thinking the exact same thing. Or a nice forest green. Or, or, or a nice Essex. I love the color green. I am actually looking for a green fridge right now lol.
besides straightening everything out, add much bigger lamps and paint everything glossy black. replace the crooked number plaque! it’s embarrassing as is the upside down lamp
that big frame will make a bold statement.
leave high colors for brady bunch houses. not here. consider painting or i would replace the horrible handrail entering. put it all together so it looks stately. after that add some big urns or oversized pots with appropriate sized plants. act like the CFO you want to be playa.
All good suggestions. The steps and the lights are being fixed today and tomorrow. Will post an update later. I will paint the rails and will definitely look into those pots to give it that CFO look haha!
Also - landscaping!
Taxus bushes send a very loud “yeah, I don’t want to be bothered with landscaping” message.
The upside of Taxus bushes is they are hardy as hell. The downside is they are boring. Anything is an improvement…even just planting a small bed of flowers in front of them.
I’m gonna be the boring one here and say I like the brown door, so I’d maybe just refresh that with a new coat of the same color OR paint it black, I really love the large window on your front door! I’d also change the hardware on that door to all black as well. Then I’d get rid of the white doorframe/screen/storm door assembly and go with an all black one. Then I’d replace both of those light fixtures to black matching ones that are a little more substantial in size. Then I’d resurface to refresh the concrete front steps. And to really pull it all together, also paint that silver banister (visible at the front/left of this pic) black as well to match everything else and get a new house number sign in black with white lettering, for the mailman’s sake 🤣 They really hate having to try to figure out house numbers because people want to be unique with that as if it’s merely a design choice, when the mailman just really needs that to be very clearly visible to get his job done efficiently. And whatever that little silver box on the wall, located on the building itself to the left of the doorknob, paint that black as well. In my mind, all of that would culminate in a really classy, clean, brand new vibe for the entirety of your outside entryway.
Sounds boring, I know. But sometimes less is more. And since brick work is already a fairly busy pattern, letting that shine by toning down everything else would really make it all look newer and sharper!
play it conservative and just paint it dark red and yellow of the Brick, but if you want to annoy everyone, go with glowing light green. The red of the brick, will pop that door our like a rocket.
Forest Green is the common go-to against brick and rightfully so as it shows as a good contrast on the color wheel. However, I really like Sherwin Williams Jay Blue, Honorable Blue,Dignity Blue, and Commodore. Blues also show opposite on the color wheel when leaning into lighter or more orange brick. Screenshot your door with the surrounding brick and play with colors in your edit tools. Good luck!
But only if all 4 units are done the same. I’m thinking that this set of 4 units aren’t the only set like this one. It would be interesting if any other 4 unit buildings were done in a different color.
Just a suggestion and you may already know, but replacing the light fixtures with much larger ones would have a big impact on the classy factor. Also, paint the door frame whatever door color you choose. I think you can’t go wrong with any of the suggestions you’ve gotten. I lean towards dark green.
Not the person you asked, but here's a neat looking one - [https://i.pinimg.com/474x/00/56/ba/0056ba8f4ce2e7a99351c1b098e08dba.jpg](https://i.pinimg.com/474x/00/56/ba/0056ba8f4ce2e7a99351c1b098e08dba.jpg)
How many hours of direct sunlight? A dark door behind a storm door can be a problem. Judging by this pic, it doesn’t get much. As a general rule, you should be safe going with a lighter color. I’d probably go with a gray or almond
https://preview.redd.it/3bubze0bey0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a6fb664f2004fd6d5a8e679ce020a0d0b3fa203
I had a glass door with the dark bronze trim installed. The windows are beige.
Question, if it's a 4 unit property, I assume the inner door is secured via a buzzer system? Wouldn't it make the most sense to simply remove the outer door? And since it's an exterior door, shouldn't it open outwards for emergency situations? Is this a conversion from a single to quad?
No it was always a 4-unit building. You’re right the door should open outwards but I think because of the steps it opens the way it does. Hence why they chose a door with glass so in case of emergency “break glass” I guess.
Glassy? I think a yellow blend but not like schoolbus yellow, more like an earthy tone yellow that isn’t quite tan. It will highlight the lighter color bricks that polka dot the building.
Get rid of the storm door. With that stone work around the door frame, which is very nice, a storm door kills it. Maybe a nice glass or fabric awning would dress up that entrance.
I was going to say don't do anything too high-contrast if leaving the storm door, but I see you're taking it off.
I do delivery to high-end homes, I see so many bright pink or teal/turquoise/baby blue matte doors I think it's silly.
I was thinking a dark green or dark blue but the comments that said pistachio cream or sage green kind of caught my eye
I think like a darker sage green would look nice with the contrast, I don't know if it's feasible to take the door off and get it sprayed with automotive paint, but it would be pretty cool. Opens you up to some really nice metallic or glossy colors.
A deeper, very rich blue with a bit of gloss (maybe satin). I'm not a contractor, but I am a painter (artist). The color of the brick will contrast so nicely and have such a lovely effect. It will really make the stone pop as well. Add some black (or maybe even brass?) fixtures and you're in business!
Play with that! Get a large piece of rosin paper (from flooring department) and cover more than half of the door, then paint it a color, walk away, and see if you like it.
Seriously, I'd suggest a warm deep yellow
Professional Colour Consultant here .. add some class… forget colour, go for one of the amazing metal- look paints you can get now … the patinas can be incredible. Worth the $$!
I would change out the the light fixtures to match, and make much larger. I’d also move the number to above the door, maybe in wrought iron. Could paint to match new door color, which I would paint in a bright orange. Shutters would add curb appeal, and some annuals planted in front of the bushes, if you’re not replacing them.
Edited to add: fix the step concrete now. You can always paint the steps, unless that’s the only way in and out.
I think Cromwell gray or homburg gray (if you’re okay with going a little more bold) would be really nice, which you could eventually use for windows as well.
Fix the steps and handrail. Replace lights with something larger , get better house number set up and pressure wash all the concrete. For door paint go with something in a primary color that you like and fits in with the brick work.
A deep burgundy would be really pretty (pulling some of those burnt tones from the brick). I’d change the screen door color though, or remove entirely. Also pressure washing the surround would help freshen it up a lot.
Get better lights that match for each side of door. Let door alone and buy nicer screen door.
looking at the house, the porch screams for a cover over it. The front door looks forlorn with out it.
I got a vibe of British racing green for some reason…
Very Bag End....I concur.
Dang it. I was thinking the exact same thing. Or a nice forest green. Or, or, or a nice Essex. I love the color green. I am actually looking for a green fridge right now lol.
...and paint the rail to match
I got chartreuse

I’d do Robin Egg Blue with a slight grey tinge to it, then update the door hardware to be black and square
Everyone around here is painting front doors yellow these days? I don’t know if that’s a trend all over but seems to be very popular where I live
It’s just a high contrasting color, that’s why I feel like blue is a solid choice as it’s middle of the road and compliments the masonry
Agreed, enough color to pop, but not overwhelming
Yes!! A deep, dark Royal or midnight blue would look incredible with the brick work!
Agreed. With the brick and dark blue, you almost have Michigan wolverines color and that’s all class.
I don’t really know what that means, but I will assume it’s amazing!
Are you suggesting they get an exact colour compliment, based on the average shade colour of the orange/red bricks?
Yeah I came here to suggest lemon yellow. And widen the trim under each window…or install shutters. The windows are so bare.
Yes, I would definitely dress up the windows!
This!!!!!!
I see a white door and I want it painted black
Clashes with the brick.. gotta find a less brutal contrast
Blue and Orange are literally complimentary colors….
A muted eggplant purple.
I was also gonna vote purple.
That door frame is dope
That is definitely not the door frame
You know what I mean 😒
Perhaps not. It does frame the door though.
A nice neutral red.
I’m with you, a nice red would make the door pop!
My thoughts exactly, will fit the wall color awesomely
yup!! winner
Perhaps share some photos with /r/ExteriorDesign and /r/CurbAppeal
Great idea! Thanks.

Lose the white storm door. Then take a second.
Purple is the color of royalty. But the Green mentioned at the top sounds sexy
play it conservative and just paint it dark red and yellow of the Brick, but if you want to annoy everyone, go with glowing light green. The red of the brick, will pop that door our like a rocket.

I feel the same way. I think anything with a green undertone will pop and compliment the door.
Thanks a bunch. Will do so!
if you're going for classy remove the screen door
Yes we’ll do that tomorrow. Same with fixing the steps and painting the rails.
I see a white door and I wanted it painted black
Bright red
But only if all 4 units are done the same. I’m thinking that this set of 4 units aren’t the only set like this one. It would be interesting if any other 4 unit buildings were done in a different color.
BLACK
Teal
My answer

Yes already planning on doing that. Thank you!
Forest green, would complement the red in the brick.
Burnt orange
There’s a brownstone in my city with a purple door. It sounds ridiculous, I know, but it looks GORGEOUS.
Could you DM me some pics if it’s not too much trouble?
Not the person you asked, but here's a neat looking one - [https://i.pinimg.com/474x/00/56/ba/0056ba8f4ce2e7a99351c1b098e08dba.jpg](https://i.pinimg.com/474x/00/56/ba/0056ba8f4ce2e7a99351c1b098e08dba.jpg)

Dark/medium Green
I'd find one of the darkest bricks and match that.
light green
https://preview.redd.it/3bubze0bey0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a6fb664f2004fd6d5a8e679ce020a0d0b3fa203 I had a glass door with the dark bronze trim installed. The windows are beige.
Pistachio cream. Trust.
There is nothing more classy than a tuxedo. So black and white.
maybe pick a mustard gold colour out of the brick shades
Should I leave the door frame white to match the windows or also paint it that color?
I like this idea, leave the other stuff white. Paint just the door.
I would. Some shutters on your windows would be cool
Red
Already looks glassy
Red (told that people feel welcomed)
The building next door also has red. Don’t really want to be the same. Any other option iyo?
Nothing really strikes out atm. I actually like how it is right now. Whatever color you decide, let me know.
Green
Because it is orange brick I would orange or light blue.
Check out the Sherwin-Williams app Color Snap, you can drop hundreds of different colors on the door to see which you like the most
Good idea thanks!
Light wood stain. Variation of the brick color
Red door got good juju baby
Red

Yep already doing that tomorrow. Same with fixing the steps and painting the rails.
Midvale School For The Gifted?
Babyshit Green by Beauti-Tone
Glassy? I think a yellow blend but not like schoolbus yellow, more like an earthy tone yellow that isn’t quite tan. It will highlight the lighter color bricks that polka dot the building.
A blue or red would look really good there
I probably put FJB ice cream man It’s a nice color by Benjamin Moore
A sage type green
A dark red color with brass hardware.
I’d try to pick up the color of one of those bricks—maybe like a dark terra cotta.
Get rid of the storm door. With that stone work around the door frame, which is very nice, a storm door kills it. Maybe a nice glass or fabric awning would dress up that entrance.
Chartreuse
Some sort of blue.
Green.
Powerwashing that concrete around the door will make a huge difference
Royal blue, like in Nothing Hill
You may want to start with a powerwash of the stoop and surrounding stone. Better idea of the end contrast color.
Classy: Teal, Royal Blue, or Dark Purple.
Classy = no storm door
Primary colors are always good.
The mismatched lights and crooked sign are triggering me
Deep plum gloss
I would fix the stairs and then paint.
Black, or a deep rich brown, in a similar hue to the brick, so it doesn’t clash
I was going to say don't do anything too high-contrast if leaving the storm door, but I see you're taking it off. Burgundy will tie in nicely with the brickwork
Mahogany
Navy blue https://images.app.goo.gl/Y1y1Hen7X1wzkMU1A
Bright red or blue
Needs green
Olive green
Navy
Red
Purple
Not for nothing but if this is a rental property you should be more concerned with those steps than a door color.
Maroon
A dark red or Burgundy if you wanted a subtle color change from the brick. Yellow or a lighter green for more “Pop”.
That’s one is the most Philly area number signs I’ve ever seen.
Hunter Green
I would pick the reddest brick color and have it match
Red. No other colour is needed. Just bright red.
Classy? Get two matching light fixtures and straighten the number sign first. Then paint the door either a darker green or blue.
Spear mint green make it pop
Yellow.
Olive green or light blue
Red
You’re not gonna see much of the door color behind that white storm door. Unless you the paint storm door the same color as interior door…..
Dark Red would look nice
Navy Blue
Gold
Get rid of the two doors and get one super efficient nice door, red or green.
Rust or a Red Brown
What if you make this front door classy and then … make it even classier!
Red would look good over a new porch.
Red, like a burgundy.
I would just go Tuxedo Black
I’d like a glossy black but lamps etc need to be uniform and levelled out. Pressure wash the steps etc. too or it will never make “classy.”
Red would be perfect.
Change screen door color.
I’m about to paint our front door pink. Because pink is just so fun.
jalapeño it’s like a dark orange
Orange, to go with the bricks. Take chances, be original. Who else has an orange door?
https://preview.redd.it/oz0c1diudw0d1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d9f039360116da705c0fecd483d5415a6fc67e2

Yellow with orange accent...
I'm thinking dark green or dark blue
Hunter green which would look lovely with the brick!
a burnt red blackcherry something in the red fam , or.... marigold
Need a new storm door. One that is almost all glass black.
Red, bright red!
Gloss black door. Gloss black fly screen door. Chrome or gold fittings
Bright red?
Red oxide with a matte finish.
Professional Colour Consultant here .. add some class… forget colour, go for one of the amazing metal- look paints you can get now … the patinas can be incredible. Worth the $$!
Red, kinda sits nice and comfy in there.
If you want classy, remove the storm door, otherwise, it won’t matter what color you paint the door- no one will notice it.
Ron Burgundy!
Oh a dark blue, or dark green would look fantastic!!
Start by getting rid of the screen door if you want classy.
Deep red, like burgundy. I painted the front door on my last house this color, with polished brass kickplate and hardware; EVERYONE loved it.
A peach or light amber color?
Dark green please
Me too! Dark green was my 1st thought.
Fix the steps and handrail. Replace lights with something larger , get better house number set up and pressure wash all the concrete. For door paint go with something in a primary color that you like and fits in with the brick work.
"Looking for classy" "NO SOLICITING"
Red
A deep burgundy would be really pretty (pulling some of those burnt tones from the brick). I’d change the screen door color though, or remove entirely. Also pressure washing the surround would help freshen it up a lot.
I would power wash the concrete around the door and then paint the door a rich dark brown
Red is a classic choice.
Burgundy
Sage green
Pick a color from the brick. Red, yellow, gold, beige... And if you want classy, get rid of that ghetto screen door. LOL.
Red
Get rid of the screen door.
Black
Get better lights that match for each side of door. Let door alone and buy nicer screen door. looking at the house, the porch screams for a cover over it. The front door looks forlorn with out it.
wood
Gold spray paint....
Fire Engine Red!!
I love a blue door with brick! Can do a light robins egg blue or a deeper navy, both would look good.
Skin it to the same brick pattern on the wall.
Get rid of the storm door
Yes that will be taken out.
Classy with an aluminum storm door and severely deteriorated front steps?
Hahaha all of that is being fixed. Landscaping too. I will post an update once I take care of the door.
