Wait are you actually retro game corps???!!!
Can I please send you one! I really like how in depth you go when you review anything and I would love for you to test it out and give me some feedback!
I don’t have a good gauge on d-pad/button feel and could use some feedback on that and the over all feel/design of the controller. I’ve been wanting to involve some Youtubers like you ETA prime and Taki udon in the development of this thing to make sure it is as good as humanly possible for its release!
Sure, send me an email (russ at retrogamecorps.com). Also 100% the #1 person you need to send one to is The Phawx, he's been wanting a sliding phone/handheld for many years now. I don't think he is an iPhone user though.
Reddit on one hand is beautiful and on the other a cess pit! Wouldn’t have it any other way, where else can you see the heart warming story right alongside the utterly depraved and the no brain mutants of the internet arguing over the colour of a dress
I agree, send Russ one, I bet his feedback would be invaluable. Plus it would help you reach a wide audience, there is definitely a market for this. Awesome job!
Love your YouTube content. And I’ve gotten the miyoo mini, rgb 30 and rg405v and I love them all and you’ve helped me set them all up to the best. I also just used your iOS guide and it’s so in depth and awesome.
Again don’t quote me. This could be so so so wrong. we really have no solid clue. But next year around march at best.
Takes a while to mass produce stuff lol!
Will be so worth the wait tho.
I know I love the iPhone mini. In fact the first one I made was for it. But this first edition probably won’t be. Sadly. It will work but it’s gonna be slightly too big and aesthetically not nice.
But the plan for the future is to make it perfectly fit every single phone out there!
If it makes enough money I’d like to spend it all on compatibility at first lol!

This is literally exactly what I’m looking for. All the current phone controllers are really bulky and only telescope down a little bit. This would be a day-1 purchase for me no matter the price
Been looking for one of these to be produced for YEARS. I've prototyped a couple myself, and never could get it right. If these are just Bluetooth and magnetic, they should be easy to modify to fit all phones. My ideal controller for this setup would use slider sticks to keep it more compact
Ah! Really! Would you still want to play stuff like MC with it if it had sliders. The first one I made had 3DS sliders and it was super thin, but I switched to Vita sticks and they’re just so much better I stuck with them. But I have considered the 3DS sliders. For sure in the future, I’ll have a slim version that includes them that would be super slim.
Fantastic prototype BTW! I'd buy this regardless of the Vita sticks. Also, there are some smaller footprint switch joysticks being produced as well that I've found on aliexpress
Iirc the sliders themselves didn't have switches in them but they were cleverly mounted above buttons on the main PCB that are actuated by the slider housing when you press down on them.
Unless I'm thinking of another device that did that, something anbernic has produced did that.
Woo that looks amazing - likely a straight up day one buy from me if there's no major issues.
So cool, been hoping for something in this form factor for quite a long while.
Can’t wait until you release it. I have been wanting someone to do slider style controller for iphone for a long time. Its like we think the same except I lack the skills to build it. I’ll definitely get one from you once you release it.
If something like this were available when I first started getting into this hobby, I never would have bought any handhelds. I'd just use my phone and this controller.
Do you plan on open sourcing the internal/electronics part? i would love to have a go at it ....(if i eventually find the time though)....
Another idea: make the slide mechanism sideways so the phone gets sandwiched from both sides. like the modern telescopic controller. I hate carrying controllers that take up too much space and this sideway model could be as low profile and the CG would be better too i guess for playing.
I’d really love to open source the whole thing. But probably won’t be able too. I think the modding community for this thing would be soooooooo cool to see and I’d love to enable that. Maybe further down the line tho hopefully🙏.
Also, have thought of that and it would be really cool I think.
I wanted to suggest this as well! Ive been wanting to design a landscape sliding controller that split in half to pop out on either side. I use a Galaxy Z Fold 4 as my daily driver and emulator. Having the case on the back half of the phone in tablet mode would work better left/right as opposed to up/down. I don't know how your internals are setup, but most telescoping controllers use 2 boards with ribbon cables connecting.
OP just hit the goddamn wall of fame with this post.
Well done! Your work looks great and I'm glad you're getting this type of instant feedback from staples of the community
Honestly this is amazing and could change the market massively. As you say mobiles are just so much further ahead in terms of power to most handhelds especially for price on the Android side. In theory there'll be no need for a separate handheld if this is thin enough to be completely negligible in the pocket. I carry a separate phone for more modern emulation sometimes, but it can never do any action games with touch controls and a separate controller just takes up too much room.
Only questions at the moment would be, is there anywhere else we can follow the project? A Discord or anything, or just your YouTube? Is there any kind of time line? Battery life? Also what is the thickness roughly in mm? Is there possible adjustment in the total size to fit smaller phones?
Thanks and all the best! I cannot wait for this!
Really not to sure yet so don’t take my word for this. But on the high end around the price of the backbone, $99. Id honestly like it to be less but probably for this first edition it will be around there.
I'd buy this in an instant if you made these for the Galaxy S3+ and similar. I hope this sparks up a new type of controller. That's the best damn idea I've seen in ages for using your phone for emulation.
Does it fit well in your pocket? If so I want one. This is my main issue with everything but the original razer Kishi and that’s not even great it just collapses enough to fit in a bag nicely
This is absolutely awesome, the fact that you were able to actually engineer it and make it into a real thing boggles my mind
I'd buy it 100% and I'd say the max I'd spend would be like $95 if you're thinking about pricing, but that's just my personal opinion
I really hope this works out and becomes a thing, I'd be so on board
I 3d printed one very similar to this that used an 8 bit do controller. I absolutely loved it. However, no matter what I did, it was a 3D printed part that was not as durable as something that was mass produced. When I dropped it, it would break. I would reprint a part and then it would break again. Eventually, I gave up on it.
If you can pull this off, shut up and take my money.
I love this and now I really want one. I haven’t bought a controller for my phone yet since I have a 14 pro and I know soon as I upgrade it will be useless since my next phone will have usb c
Now that i see more pictures of it i must say it looks amazing tho ngl i’m afraid of the what ifs , like what if i change phone? The controller thingy looks too good to be simply abandoned if i swap phone, will it have like different cases for every model or like could it have some sort of glue or tape so i can glue the base it’s attached to to whatever phone case i want so i could possibly use that even on weird phones that are hard to find covers of? Or like have an adjustable clip idk. I mean it would really be cool even if it was only for certain iphone models tho it sounds like so much wasted potential to me
No it will work for pretty much anything. It’s really not like a phone case wear it only works for one specific phone. The only thing that isn’t gonna be perfect between different phones is the camera size so like the camera bump hole would be like too big if it was meant for the 15 pro and you were using it on a regular 15. it would still work great and most people probably wouldn’t notice but it might look a little weird if you’re looking for it. same thing with android, their cameras are just shaped differently and so it wouldn’t work perfectly with the camera bump but it would still work fine.
I’m definitely going to eventually have a top plate that is probably slightly bulkier but just straight up works with anything.
And yeah, I really hate it when companies make things that don’t last long and one thing I really wanna prioritize is upgrade-ability. You’re not gonna have to buy an entirely new controller when you get a new phone. If anything, just a new top plate.
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I always stick to dedicated devices because if I’m going to carry a bag for a controller I might as well just carry a whole device. Something like this that is pocketable would change everything, and MagSafe is the perfect decision. Looking forward to a release and hopefully a video from RGC as it looks like Russ is interested too!
Have you ever thought of switching up the orientation of the dpad and joy stick? I think I would prefer that set up better. Joystick on top of the dpad on the left
Every phone should have a case like this with a slide out controller and perhaps an extra battery. No brainer and don’t know why Chinese aren’t all over it given how many are trying to make emulation systems like Ambernic, Ayn and Retroid
Awesome Awesome work! I had an idea like this I posted about a long time ago but never went forward with it. From one engineer to another I wish you the best.
I have to say, im extremely jealous lol. Iv been brainstorming this same idea (but worse) for a few years now. I was thinking fold out from the back of the phone sides (left side dpad and right ABXY and start select that could combine and be covered by a sliding back plate when not in use. The idea of having an all out retro gaming handheld essentially hidden in your phone has always been really interesting to me, and the fact that you've done it while keeping it thin AND it has analogs.... awesome.
Guaranteed a cornered market get in there bud as long as your persistent you will be on the top after your design I know a Chinese company will copy paste but with your innovation with different controllers you will corner the market

I don’t usually see posts that seem like potentially really big for the community, but this definitely feels like a future successful product.
Detectable controller that’s Xperia Play inspired would sell like hotcakes. Use of MagSafe is clever and makes the thing cleaner/a lot more lightweight, bravo
Dude no joke I think you're onto something big here. I thought about this exact sort of thing a few years ago but never actually thought someone would be able to make it a reality but you actually did it. I think you would have a very profitable business if you were to make these and sell them online. This is a niche that literally no one else has seemed to of provided for yet. Id imagine that a universal version of something like this that could be attached to pretty much any model phone would sell like absolute hot cakes.
It's a great idea. I have a razer kishi and even then it's a slight pain to have to lug around. Plus it doesn't fit totally right with my phone's case. I'd also like to see if you could make something like this as a case for androids since they don't have a magsafe equivalent
This is rad and exactly what the mobile emulation scene needs. At least, this is exactly what I’ve been looking of for the past couple months and had no luck finding. Love to see it and can’t wait for it to hit the markets and make an impact! 🔥
This looks so awesome!! I love MagSafe accessories, and wish more developers leaned into using it like you have! Just from what I see here, I would by one right away!
I have wanted this for years since i first saw the xperia play.
Hope you succeed and will sell this commercially.
Can't understand why this idea is slept on by all the manufacturers
This is the exact concept I have been talking about FOR YEARS. Awesome work. What about making it compatible with more android models? There are a lot of tolerances sizes, to be aware of. Iphone is not the most emulator friendly device. Wow such a dream to see something like this. I miss the Xperia play so much.
This is legitimately the concept that's been banging around in my head for like 2 years, but I lacked the technical aptitude to make it possible. You *nailed* it dude: the sliding, the magsafe, dual analog, two pairs of shoulder buttons, it's slim, absolutely fantastic.
It looks super cool. I would love to see something to add some hand grip surface to the lower part of the controller. Some "handles" or some sort. Maybe even a threaded insert with some that could be attached and removed depending on the preference would be nice.
I ask because I always have grip issues with stuff like this.
Funny how everyone wanted this (including me).
Just a couple of days ago I was looking at all the telescopic controllers compatible with Android phones/tablets, and thinking "but in the end I am not gonna use them because I can't just have them comfortably in my pocket all the time; why doesn't a pspgo style thing exist".
This with a Galaxy Fold 4 or 5 would be endgame level portable emulation.
This is an awesome idea, looking forward to your video!
Wait are you actually retro game corps???!!! Can I please send you one! I really like how in depth you go when you review anything and I would love for you to test it out and give me some feedback! I love our community
For real, this is really cool
Reddit on one hand is beautiful and on the other a cess pit! Wouldn’t have it any other way, where else can you see the heart warming story right alongside the utterly depraved and the no brain mutants of the internet arguing over the colour of a dress
Totally agree with the double-ended sword that is reddit. Soon as I saw this I wanted one for my Samsung galaxy to play gta San andreas.
i am so proud of this community
Oh awesome! I’ve been watching him allot recently! I’ll send an email over to you! And maybe I can get one to both you guys.
He might be after this lol.
Pretty sure there are phone cases with magnets that let you use magsafe accessories with android phones.
He needs a modern razer junglecat
Dude! Awesome
Good news! As long as his phone has wireless charging he can buy a little metal ring that will stick to any case and make his phone “MagSafe”
Russ please make a video on this guys controller!
Yeah, man, he wants to do it.
I agree, send Russ one, I bet his feedback would be invaluable. Plus it would help you reach a wide audience, there is definitely a market for this. Awesome job!
I have a vision of an M-Con controller on my iPhone, with a RGC sticker on it… and it makes me smile.
You have been blessed by the handheld Godfathers….Go…..peace be with you (take my money).
Hey Russ! Big fan of your channel and the nerd nest podcast! Id LOVE to see you do something with this controller!
Love your YouTube content. And I’ve gotten the miyoo mini, rgb 30 and rg405v and I love them all and you’ve helped me set them all up to the best. I also just used your iOS guide and it’s so in depth and awesome.
Onions ARE gross. Love your content, Russ!
If its for sell, I would buy one.
1000%
Agreed brilliant idea
I'd buy it. This was inside my head for a long time.
Thank god OP is a good neurosurgeon and was able to get it out hehe
WoW!!! It’s really amazing!! 🤩 instant buy 🙌
Thanks man!!! Love your work!
If i can help you for something don’t hesitate to contact me 🙌
Ha maybe some sticker help to spruce up that bad boy, huh?
I’d love to buy one of these for the iphone 15 pro max
ditto. i’d love some 35xxsp style micro switch buttons/d-pad
It looks like it may be an easy conversion for any phone. Hopefully he is able to make one for the Samsung flagships.
What is the price looking like for this bad boy? The PSP Go is my favourite handheld so I am all in on this.
I seriously doubt there is a price for it. It is basically a prototype right now.
I was just looking for a general idea for the price, not necessarily a final sale price. Even something like "between $75 and $100" would suffice.
Don’t quote me, but around there for this first edition probably.
I am 100% on board. Do you have any idea when you'll have this available for sale?
Again don’t quote me. This could be so so so wrong. we really have no solid clue. But next year around march at best. Takes a while to mass produce stuff lol! Will be so worth the wait tho.
Impressive!
This isn’t exactly my market (mobile device emulation + controller) but honestly if it was, I think I would 100% go with this. It looks pretty slick.
I know a genius when i see one 😮💨🔥
#Shut up and take my money!!! I do have a question though, will this fit an iPhone Mini?
I know I love the iPhone mini. In fact the first one I made was for it. But this first edition probably won’t be. Sadly. It will work but it’s gonna be slightly too big and aesthetically not nice. But the plan for the future is to make it perfectly fit every single phone out there! If it makes enough money I’d like to spend it all on compatibility at first lol!
Would pay for a custom version for an iPhone Mini if you're willing, I do a ton of 3D printing myself and would love to see how this thing works -
was gonna ask exactly the same thing, I need an iPhone mini version
Upvoting this, iPhone mini + this controller is a really nice size
This rules. The way it slots into the phone itself is super cool. I'd buy this for sure.
That’s dope!!

This is a great idea. I would buy it easily in a heartbeat. Excellent work!
Hope your business sucess and you eventually make a n64 controller layout version lol
he's HIM
I miss the xperia play, would love one of these
a-ha! someone finally did it
Fantastic idea! Does it support other phones? S24+?
He said most other androids with cases that have magsafe, so I'd hope and assume so
How you can make better gadgets for the magsafe than Apple itself? XD (nice idea, bro)

For sure in the future, I’ll have a slim version that includes them that would be super slim.
I'd play anything with sliders if you could compact the design more. The sliders anbernic used in their flip has L3 R3 switches built in as well
Ok I’ll definitely have to consider it!
That's clever, means you don't need a specific slider joystick to accomplish presses
Sony: "Refuses to release a new Xperia Play" This guy: Fine, I'll just make one myself.
C o o l ... looks ... 👌
Meanwhile my greatest accomplishment of the day was remembering to put on socks.
Thats really good. Congrats.
That's so cool!!
Instant buy for iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Woo that looks amazing - likely a straight up day one buy from me if there's no major issues. So cool, been hoping for something in this form factor for quite a long while.
Been waiting forever for something like this, will definitely preorder when possible.
I would definitely buy it
Brilliant! Will be looking for the mass market, its perfectly timed considering iPhone just got approved emulation.
Please make this a real thing so I can buy it immediately
This fucking rules!
Can’t wait until you release it. I have been wanting someone to do slider style controller for iphone for a long time. Its like we think the same except I lack the skills to build it. I’ll definitely get one from you once you release it.
A magsafe controller would be great (and smaller) too.
Awesome idea. If you were to build one for android devices, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
I don't want it. I NEED IT. I can't tell you how much I've missed my Xperia Play over the years, this would scratch that itch very well.
for YEARS i have wondered why someone didn't mass produce a thing like that, thank you for finally doing something about it!
Looks fucking amazing!✌🏽
I'd buy if it is priced right.
Insta-buy, for sure. This is much, much better than the MagSafe ring/Joy-Con monstrosity I’m rocking.
This actually looks pretty sick. I’ve been looking for a controller that was nicer to take with on a daily basis
This is amazing.
This is awesome
So cool. I’m a huge fan of the psp go. I love the design choices you did with this. I would definetly buy one if mass produced
WHERE DO I BUY NOW?
Take my money
Can I buy one?
Would buy day 1 for an S24 ultra version.
If something like this were available when I first started getting into this hobby, I never would have bought any handhelds. I'd just use my phone and this controller.
I want it. I WANT IT!

OP just hit the goddamn wall of fame with this post. Well done! Your work looks great and I'm glad you're getting this type of instant feedback from staples of the community
I have been sketching controllers like this for years without the means to make it. I am in awe of the product that you were able to produce, 10/10!

This is awesome!! I will definitely be keeping an eye out for this!
Looks amazing but isn’t it top-heavy?
It actually balances about 5 mm below the back triggers, so it’s really not bad at all. I play on it for hours at a time in M64 and Minecraft lol.
This is cool!
Ooh! I like. I'd get one in a heartbeat.
Whats the price point on this?
Really not to sure yet so don’t take my word for this. But on the high end around the price of the backbone, $99. Id honestly like it to be less but probably for this first edition it will be around there.
Take. My. Money! Subscribed, signed up for pre-order notifications, bought a M-Con mug. Good luck, I hope it’s a hit!
yes. how is the weight distribution when you have a phone on top of the controller base?
This goes hard
Would buy immediately
PSP GO 2 lets goooo Looks great
this is so cool, if it’s reasonably priced, I’d buy in a heart beat
I'd buy this in an instant if you made these for the Galaxy S3+ and similar. I hope this sparks up a new type of controller. That's the best damn idea I've seen in ages for using your phone for emulation.
How do I get notified when this is live?
SICK
That’s freaking awesome. Well done!
Super cool. How much ?
Well done!! Amazing job, crazy the things we’ve been enabled to do with 3D printing
i'll definetly buy one if it's going on sale
That looks so awesome but I don't have magsafe so I wouldn't be able to use it
It will come with a MagSafe ring to add it to any phone
Bruh, this is fire!!! People would be buying this up.
That's amazing! Love the ingenuity. Wishing you success and I'll definitely be getting one as soon as it's ready
I think it's neat 😎
Amazing, i really want one :D
This is incredibly impressive. The proof of concept is amazing, i think the key is going to be the ergonomics.
Bro this is 🔥
This is fucking awesome, I need it for Android
Super cool!! This would go great withw my S20fe as a dedicated gaming phone.
Liked a lot! Definitely would use
Legendary! I’d love to see more of this.
Cool dude👍👌 I would actually buy that! Any chance you can send it to Belgium🤞 Peace out x
I'd buy one.
So when can we buy these, cause i would definitely buy one 😃
Bruh id buy this instantly lol
Is this for real?
Super cool! At a quick glance, I thought this was an Xperia Play!
this is one of the very few thing's ive seen where i wish i could support it on indiegogo to get my own
Does it fit well in your pocket? If so I want one. This is my main issue with everything but the original razer Kishi and that’s not even great it just collapses enough to fit in a bag nicely
I envisioned this as well but this but with a keyboard! I miss physical keys. 😭 Amazing!
Damn, that's awesome
The design is class I recommend trade marking it before it turns up on Temu
This is fantastic!
This is absolutely awesome, the fact that you were able to actually engineer it and make it into a real thing boggles my mind I'd buy it 100% and I'd say the max I'd spend would be like $95 if you're thinking about pricing, but that's just my personal opinion I really hope this works out and becomes a thing, I'd be so on board
Id buy this in a heartbeat. Incredible work!
I was dreaming of making something like this for so long. A PSP go like case. Would be a dream for moonlight. If you’re selling I’m buying.

Man, I’d for sure do this and a smart phone before I get a several hundred dollar handheld. Looks amazing, great job
Now that i see more pictures of it i must say it looks amazing tho ngl i’m afraid of the what ifs , like what if i change phone? I'll buy it at a high price. I think there may be a huge demand for something like this.

Someone’s definitely going to steal this idea and you’ll see things like this on Amazon if this post gets enough traffic.
How no one thought of using magsafe for flip style controller
Ya the flip causes some problems. The hing would be super weird to make work with different phone and for when detached vs attached.
Have you ever thought of switching up the orientation of the dpad and joy stick? I think I would prefer that set up better. Joystick on top of the dpad on the left

I have to say, im extremely jealous lol. Iv been brainstorming this same idea (but worse) for a few years now. I was thinking fold out from the back of the phone sides (left side dpad and right ABXY and start select that could combine and be covered by a sliding back plate when not in use. The idea of having an all out retro gaming handheld essentially hidden in your phone has always been really interesting to me, and the fact that you've done it while keeping it thin AND it has analogs.... awesome.
Take my money

Cool, and cool looking. I like how small it is and could just slide in your pocket
That's some serious skill. I thought it was another ayaneo handheld until I read the texts. Very impressive building.
It's a great idea. I have a razer kishi and even then it's a slight pain to have to lug around. Plus it doesn't fit totally right with my phone's case. I'd also like to see if you could make something like this as a case for androids since they don't have a magsafe equivalent
This is amazing, if you could make a keyboard version of it I would overpay a lot for one
Looks like I’ll be buying a MagSafe iPhone!
Literally looks better than 90% of phone controllers on the market!
i see those vita thumbsticks!
That’s the perfect controller. How the fuck companies haven’t been able to do this yet and push to market is beyond me.
are those ... ps vita joy sticks,,, take my money
The vita prototype is aliiiive and now i dont have to use a bulky ass backbone lesssgoooo
When are you manufacturing these 👀👀
This is legitimately the concept that's been banging around in my head for like 2 years, but I lacked the technical aptitude to make it possible. You *nailed* it dude: the sliding, the magsafe, dual analog, two pairs of shoulder buttons, it's slim, absolutely fantastic.
Ship it with the shirt too!
Wait bro are you an exhibitor at open sauced? Fricken cool af man.
Reminds me of the razer junglecat
