Doesn't take much for me to rage quit lol
Recently:
-SM64 port (no save states), last level, screw it... Jump and camera controls aren't up to the challenge. BYE!
- Jak and daxter 2, see you never again.
- every Castlevania game if it wasn't for save state spamming.
- DK country 2, Even with save states, GTFO.
Ugh, Jak II. I love the gameplay, hate the difficulty. So Jak 3 it is (well, really my favorite is TPL, but Jak 3 is basically an easier version of Jak II).
Nope--difficulty felt perfect. Over-powered weapons, generous checkpoints, generous health system. Challenging enough where I had to re-play a handful of missions maybe, like, 5 times, but at no point did I feel tempted to use save states.
I toss in the towel at any mario game. I'm way too impatient, but I'm cheesing my way through these games with save states. I love it that way and nobody can stop me.
I had Super Mario Land on my gameboy pocket and could never beat it (I mean I don’t even think the batteries could last long enough for me to beat it anyway). One day I was sick from work, so I used save states to beat the damn thing. It was worth it, just to know I’d finally beat it, regardless of what it took.
I did try to do it honourably, and only saved between levels.
For years it was Lagoon. I sorry of soft locked myself by being to the final boss but had used up all my herbs. So I came back to it decades later and finally beat it. The nightmares stopped that same night.
Try the Japanese version of the game. It has unlimited continues. You can also use the lives cheat on it to make it all easier for you. Ofcourse, today we have savestates to make things even easier.
Using only digital inputs, on the normal allotted time (70 seconds per checkpoint)? Yeah, I can only *barely* manage to get to the 3rd stage 😅
I still play it occasionally because it's just plain relaxing fun, not to mention the timeless music! 😌🎶
I initially played OutRun through Cannonball, didn't know that starting with 75 seconds was the Easy mode! Felt cheated when I realised that, but it was fun to actually see the finish lines.
That said, playing OutRun with analog throttle + steering (triggers on a controller) is so much better than digital. Having widescreen support, and the ability to switch cameras is great too. Cannonball is fantastic! I forget if the Saturn port (or any other ports) had any of those features.
I got so used to hearing that little death music that plays as soon as you die, I can still hear it in my head to this day, and we only rented that game for a weekend. I think Empire Stikes Back used the same game as a base so it was more of the same. And all the muffled sound effects of explosions of Luke taking hits and that muffled "ooh" sound he makes when he takes a hit.
Its such a great game visually and even mechanically but it's almost ruined by the insane difficulty and the terrain preventing you from shooting where you want.
Still love it but can only play it with cheats
Mario: lost levels (Mario 2 JP) without unlimited lives I would rage quit far before clearing some of the harder worlds.
With unlimited lives I have gotten around to beating it but man that game is just cruel.
I should probably start using save state and grind through. I actually love the game, I'm just terrible at it. Haha.
Heart of Darkness was great, too. Same developer but better graphics. Which, considering you're playing as a kid in that one, and you will die a LOT on your journey...maybe not a good thing? Lol
Sonic Unleashed. I never did beat it as a kid. Eggmanland is the longest, hardest level of any game I'd ever had to play at that time.
As a climax to a grand adventure, it works perfectly, testing every single skill you've picked up in the course of the game for THIRTY straight minutes. But I couldn't beat it lmao
Super mario world has a steep curve, I just give up after a point. I'm more of a Pokemon guy so I can't handle such games when they start to get complex wrt timing n stuff.
Ghosts and goblins . Can get to 3rd level and no further. 1 credit. Remember seeing the arcade cabinet for the fiirst time in 85 :).
Me too, and nearly 40 years later I still can't get past level 1!
GET THE KNIFE.
Yep. Never been able to get to the fourth stage.
I had this game for my Sega Master System. It is a source of trauma from my childhood lmao
Oof, that turbo symbol is unfortunate. 😬
Had the same reaction lmao
I was gonna tell him to watch out that hes only got 2 Nazis left and to ration them 😂

Jak 3 isn't as frustrating? Might have to give it a try.

Ecco The Dolphin, the "Welcome to the machine" level.
For years it was Lagoon. I sorry of soft locked myself by being to the final boss but had used up all my herbs. So I came back to it decades later and finally beat it. The nightmares stopped that same night.
Contra 3 and super ghouls and ghosts for snes.
Contra 3, completely agree. I finished it on a SNES with my brothers as a little kid. Not I can barely get past the first few levels.
Try the Japanese version of the game. It has unlimited continues. You can also use the lives cheat on it to make it all easier for you. Ofcourse, today we have savestates to make things even easier.
The day I reach the finish line in Outrun without using save states or rewind will be a cold day in hell.

Mike Tyson's Punch Out.
I can never beat Soda Popinski. He always hits me before I can react.
Rayman!
That little f***er xD
Top Gun for NES. I owned almost 50 games and that was one of the few that I absolutely hated. I literally couldn't land on the first level 😔
Oh the aircraft carrier landing? Yeah that was needlessly difficult.
Yeah I couldn't ever land 😂. My shit was crashing every time
The Angry Video Hame Nerd didn’t make an iconic video for that game for nothing.
As an aviation fan I had both Top Gun games for nes and enjoyed them but yes, never got far...
Battletoads and Battletoads x Double Dragon on NES
Battletoads is my favourite game that hates me.
Ghosts and Goblins and Hagane. Brutal 😵
Battletoads, game is impossible.
Finally beat that stupid jet ski level as a kid... And then the next level was EVEN HARDER!!! UGH!
super star wars snes
I swear to god I don’t think it’s actually possible to beat that game without dying

I remember the first time eating the poison mushroom lol that game was kaizo before it was a thing. Almost feels like playing a romhack of SM1
Those levels were lost for a reason 😂
Another World (Out of a This World) for SNES. I usually make it to the part where he picks up the gun and then end up getting shot right after.
I just finished it on sega cd. One of my favourite games.
I should probably start using save state and grind through. I actually love the game, I'm just terrible at it. Haha. Heart of Darkness was great, too. Same developer but better graphics. Cauldron/Hexenkùche

Dynamite Dan
Super mario world has a steep curve, I just give up after a point. I'm more of a Pokemon guy so I can't handle such games when they start to get complex wrt timing n stuff.
Donkey Kong Country has somehow gotten harder for me as an adult.
The gameboy megaman games. Like holy hell.Â
C64 Impossible Mission. because its randomly generated and some are impossible to solve.
Well, truth in advertising at least.
I swear I'm missing something in that game because so many of the robots are literally impossible to avoid
Spent a ton of time on The Atari 7800 version as a kid. Only to learn a few years ago on YouTube that it had an unbeatable glitch
The return of the Joker on Gameboy. That last boss fight. smh
Similarly with Batman on NES. The whole game is tough but fair, but the Joker boss fight is impossible
Real life.
Dragon’s Lair
Enduro
Project vice doom
Battle Toads, NES.
DefJam battle for NY on PS2. Man that game is so hard
the original prince of persia for me. i always screw up late game.
Journey to Silius.. stuck on level 2
Volgar The Viking.
F zero X for SNES whattttt 🙃
F zero x is on n64. The SNES game is just F zero. At least I’m pretty sure that’s right.
Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out. It was the first game I got back in 1980 sumthing and I still haven't beaten it.😢
Ghost N Goblins, Ghosts N Ghouls, F that game. That game was made to get people mad lol.
Pulstar on the neogeo. Like R-Type but on steroids. Probably the only game I ever beat with save states otherwise it would have been impossible XDÂ
The arcade version of NBA Jam. Or maybe I just suck at it.
Mortal Kombat 2 on arcade. The AI literally cheats to win to steal your quarters.
Parasite Eve
YOGAI!
Mike Tyson's Punch Out.
SNES - Battletoads I watched last days a speed run of it, and man the game is after the first level like hell.
I agree on this one!
Lion King on SNES/Megadrive. Rendering Ranger on SNES. Couldn't beat either even with savestates.
Top gun, NES
No cheats? Battletoads NES.
