You just have to keep at it. If I remember correctly, while grinding the weapon's DP down imbues it with the temper, you don't have to. You can use the basic 0 DP attack. It's much slower, though. It takes, like, 60 uses when using the basic attack. Just make sure that the name turns red when you apply the tempered material. Some of the materials are really rare, so you'll only see one of them per playthrough. That's why you would want to keep from running out of DP in a single temper. (Like that final mullock... that was a pain back in the PS2 version, where mining had a mistake in the code that didn't let you access higher-tier minerals).

>You can use the basic 0 DP attack. That's the thing, though - I can't even use Sunder without having to pay DP. If I didn't have to, I wouldn't. Maybe if I leveled Gray's Katana skill to level 5 as opposed to 4, that wouldn't be an issue, but I'm kinda broke on jewels, and I'm running out of quests to do on this playthrough. EDIT: Okay, turns out progress does get carried over. Only ended up taking me 4 mullocks...

You're right, I forgot that, if the durability is low enough, then even the basic attack costs DP. Sorry.

Is your Falcata user in a Katana-using class? Cross-class skills don't get most of the BP/DP/LP benefits. Also you can shift Katanas up 1 DP at the Blacksmith; I was able to get 0 DP on basic attacks with a Mullock 7 Falcata+6 with only level 2 in Martial Artist and a Weapon Crown.
