I think she wears a hat to hide her curly roots when she's due for a professional hair straightening. You can see it in the last picture.....her hair is thick and curling near her scalp. I also think high humidity doesn't do her hair any favors either and its near tropical in areas of Texas.
I think you're right. You can definitely see the curly roots and that part is beautiful! It's so sad that she straightens her hair all the time. That hair of hers is probably the only "naturally" beautiful thing she's got, yet she chemically straightens it. Those curls were shiny and beautiful. It really infers a hatred of all of the "black", things in her appearance.
