Putting in a recommendation for Jesushi. It's a food truck, but makes excellent sushi. Only drawback is they close at 5, which can be tricky

whisperingcopse

Damn I won’t be able to get dinner until 6 but I do love food trucks!

laelana

They’ll be at the railyard for sol Sunday this Sunday

laelana

Kai or Masa sushi are also decent options. There’s Thurs night sushi at tumbleroot, too.

whisperingcopse

Kai looks really good I’ll put that one in the shortlist probably!

EManSantaFe

Kai is awesome.

Shoddy-Theory

Kai on St Michaels

skooternb

Seconding Kai.

efrostee

Kai is good and reliable. Get the Kai roll

Slam_Helsing

I used to go to Kai but I now swear by Masa.

Big_Old_Tree

Sushi 8 is decent for mid priced sushi. It’s our go to. Not gonna light the world on fire, but solid rolls and a decent variety. Kohnami is about the same quality but more expensive

whisperingcopse

Thanks for the feedback on those two :)

Big_Old_Tree

You got it. Hope you have a satisfying meal!

Powerful-Past5614

Same. Agree.

CloudFlower

I’m sorry I don’t agree with Sushi 8. I just went there and the food is gross and greasy. And eating in the restraurant is disgusting. They do not clean up after people and there was food in the cracks of the tables.

Outrageous-Top7725

Tokyo cafe

addrien

Does Tumbleroot still do Thursday night sushi pop up?

whisperingcopse

Gonna be in town for the weekend not a Thursday but if I was it looks good!

am_golden

They’re doing a pop up at the New Mexico Hard Cider taproom on either Fridays or Saturdays now too.

addrien

Oh that's great! I love that place. That little area between chomp, brake room and hard cider is my favorite for nights out. I tend to bounce between those three.

am_golden

Me too! 😳 (Do I know you?)

laelana

Yes it’s super tasty

addrien

Then that's my recommendation

christbot

The co-op. Masa sushi close to the co-op is better, but if you’re going cheap as possible, the co-op has you covered.

Friendly_Wolverine_4

Try Tokyo Cafe. I find their sushi to be decent. My favorite is the sashimi plate that’s like $25 for 12 pieces of sashimi and a side of furikake rice.

allbetson

My favorite is the new mexico roll 🔥

corncob_subscriber

The California + 2 roll lunch special is my favorite.

theoryillogical

On Friday's Albertsons has sushi for $6.00.

WombatMcGeez

If you’re going grocery store sushi, the rolls at market street are 🔥

OoooohWeeeee

Whole foods has good one as well

milliemila

We love Kohnami. Have had great experiences and some of our best meals there

VladTheSimpaler

El Nido has the best sushi I’ve eaten in Santa Fe. I thought the pricing was fair. Of course it depends what you order. Less expensive than Izanami There’s that sushi food truck but I’ve tried to eat there 3 times and they never showed up so I gave up trying. I hear it’s good tho

blackphillipdagoat

Tokyo cafe is pretty good and they have a drive thru and when I really don’t wanna break the bank Albertsons is good sometimes

whisperingcopse

I don’t say no to grocery store sushi when I’m in a pinch but I’m looking for a sit down experience this time to sit and talk with my friends :)

blackphillipdagoat

Kohnami!

theoregano

Definitely don't recommend Kai. Kohnami is great.

whisperingcopse

Thanks for the rec

Fair opinion but not relevant considering the question.

NoWayNotThisAgain

It’s Santa Fe. A small city in the mountains. Far from any ocean. Don’t base your sushi choice on price.

whisperingcopse

I’ve eaten sushi away from the ocean often in my life and I’m fine. But the best seafood in general is usually by the ocean for sure I agree! Or it’s at places that fly it in where it’s frozen sea to shore and shipped quickly. Even sushi grade fish in Japan is frozen regularly. The freezing guidelines there are more specific and thorough than here in the states by far though.

NoWayNotThisAgain

For sure. But it flies to Albuquerque which is a small city and Santa Fe is an hour away from the airport. You don’t want to base your choice on price.

whisperingcopse

I thought Sushi a la Hattori in Taos was quite good when I went on a day trip there to hike Wheeler Peak and it’s an even smaller mountain town. It’s also basically the only sushi in Taos other than the grocery store. There’s one other place there that’s decent but not as good. But I had also hiked all day so maybe it just tasted extra extra good after all the physical activity lol

eggs_mcmuffin

You doing a day trip to Santa Fe and want sushi? Please tell me you’ve atleast tried New Mexican food

whisperingcopse

I live in New Mexico. So of course I have. 😂

eggs_mcmuffin

Lmao thank goodness- the thought of a tourist coming to Santa Fe only for sushi was pretty comical to me

whisperingcopse

Oh no haha 😂 definitely not the top tourist attraction here but I’ll take what I can get that’s decent living in the desert. I’ve only ever lived in NM and AZ my whole life. I’ve gone on trips to other states but when you live in the desert…. Gotta find what’s decent and make do when the craving hits. 😀

eggs_mcmuffin

Yeah true, some guy in here was trolling saying he’s a business exec coming from Denver and needed THE FRESHEST FISH and people in the comments lost their goddamn minds. Anyway, my fav is the new spot Uchi or the Thursday tumbleroot pop-up, all other ones are just like any meh midrange you can get but the ones I listed serve super fresh buttery fish and give large portions

whisperingcopse

Thanks for the tip! Uchi doesn’t even pop up at first glance when I google it I’ll keep looking.

eggs_mcmuffin

**it’s actually Ozu, my bad! It’s right across from the og iconic - they also have a super small menu that rotates so if you want something specific I would call ahead.

whisperingcopse

Thanks!

PunkyB1980

I’m sorry. Truth is. If you don’t go to 10,000 Waves, Izynami, you won’t get good sushi. It doesn’t exist in this state. There is no such thing as “inexpensive” sushi. It’s one meal you don’t look for a “deal” on.
