That's wild. We had triple healthcare her privet my VA and state and my disability when our second was born. The three just settled on who was paying how much for him after 5 years. His birth cost upwards of $147k we'd have lost everything trying to pay for that.
I have a love-hate relationship with these videos. On one hand, I hate that they make me bawl. Otoh, they fill me with hope, it fedls nice to know that despite all these issues, we as species actively work to overcome them and help each other.
Tensing your forearm muscles causes then to bulge out a little bit. The same muscles actually already control your fingers, so it wouldn't even need much brain re-training.
And at that age neuroplasticity is wild, the brain can rewire some bonkers shit when you’re young, it’s like the most impressive redneck engineering you’ve ever seen.
“Sir this is the occipital lobe, it processes VISION only. I don’t care if the kid IS blind, we can’t rewire this entire lobe of the brain to process sound instead.
…..nah I’m just fucking with you homie, hook that shit up.”
It's hard to tell for sure, but I think that what looks like the end of her arm is actually her partially developed hand. She doesn't move her wrist until after the prosthetic is on, so it looks like the arm ends above the wrist, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't. I've worked with kids like this, and their hands look different that you'd expect.
To me it looks like it’s relying on a wrist movement. If you push down on the palm area of the prosthetic it looks like collapses the spines/joints on the top of the hand and causes the fingers to curl and grip. Not sure if a “wrist” movement would even be necessary, simple indeed, all the better.
What he said is true for high end prosthetics where you can fully manipulate the fingers and use your brain to control it, but this one is much simpler in nature. As another comment said, the fist closes when the forearm tenses or flexes applying pressure. You can see the man at the beginning of the video squeezing it with his fingers and thumb.
They're available online. I've printed them myself as well as customizing the design. Search e-nable on thingiverse for a version similar to what's seen in this video.
Got innocent little ones like this all over the world and mainstream media is focused on the idiots who are tearing this world apart. I hope she does great things in her lifetime.
Doubt it. These have to be sized and customized for the child. The size and and shape of her hand and the amount of wrist motion she has effect the function of the device. This looks to have been made specifically for her.
It's hard enough that kids outgrow their clothes all the time, now they are going to outgrow their hands too? I really goverments can help fund this kind of stuff. Atleast for yhe young
Is the 3D file for this open source, how cheaply can these be made. There are kids in Africa with no limbs because of mines and other issues that need these cheaply.
How the hell does that work? It's just strapped on? What is the input system? I mean it's gotta be like, remote controlled by someone doing the demo right?
Not to take away from the beauty of this moment, but I really want some finger sized versions of that hand. Imagine being able to grab with 5 tiny hands
Sometimes I think we don’t deserve great things in life due to horrific greed and then things like this pop up and my hope for humanity increases again.
God damn onion ninjas
I'm not crying! You're crying!
Every year the comments on this site get more and more repetitive
Just think.. your comment is just as repetitive
JFC I needed that ❤️
It's a shame this was reposted by a bot
Sneaky little bastards got me too
Whoever spreads onion on the other post is doing it again
No she isn't I am lol
Who’s controlling them? I’m bawling
I watched without sound but the kid looked like she barely cared.
What a time to be alive.
Right? We’re both total strangers commenting on this thing called the “World Wide Web.” Amazing.
Youre really gonna buy a girl that age a new hand when she clearly didn't take care of the first one?
Parents these days really are just spoiling their kids with.... hands 😆
Seems fine, back in my day my daddy threw me hands every day
LOL
You’re doing the lord’s work. I was almost crying. I mean, now I am crying. But I was almost crying, too. Its just for a different reason.
I'm with you, mitch.
I did not want to laugh at this, and I'm very upset that you forced me to be a bad person. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Norm Macdonald vibes lol
Straight to jail
Ok that was good lol
🔥
It's ok they probably got a discount because it was second hand.
And she's just gonna grow out of it! Might as well wait and buy one that'll last
But...what if she never had that hand to begin with and her parents are just now able to afford the upgrade?
That's just unfair for all the moms out there that grew their kids' hands using their own flesh and blood. No free handouts.
US healthcare. You can only afford 97% of a kid. Parents- we'll take it. Can we put the 3% on layaway?

They got her on Scratch and Dent Sale
The way she first bumps herself..
She accepts it.
Damn kids will get me every time. 😭
She may be controlling her tears, but I sure as hell am not.

At least you cry 🤷♂️ i can't even when I feel like it
no need to control them. let them out, let it all out.
how do they control when to grip?
Bless her, and I imagine tensing the forearm muscles.
I agree on the latter. Blessing her not necessary,
You know, some people express well-wishes in different ways. Language isn't literal all of the time.
I think it was a sneezing joke my guy

thats so fucking cool.
It's actually flexing the wrist that moves the fingers.
You see a wrist on her?
It's hard to tell for sure, but I think that what looks like the end of her arm is actually her partially developed hand. I guess muscles do some pressure.and mechanism inside react.
It looks like she's flexing the end of her arm and the hand grips as it's pushed forward.
Myoelectric signals, there are electrodes inside of the prosthetic
Nah it's definitely more rudimentary than that
Well, that's how full movement prosthesis work

Why is this downvoted?
Because it's wrong, this is clearly a purely mechanical system
Because it’s completely made up?
Because it’s misinformation
Really? How does this work then. Would’ve loved an explanation with this beautiful moment.

Thank you 🙏
Aww man i got golf in 30 min i guess getting my tears out now is better than after my game of wack fuck
You go, girl! :)
Does it come in a much larger size, coz I bet she'd want to say 'hulk SMASSH!!!'
How does it work ??
Don’t let America find out about this. They will patten it then charge $40,000 (don’t even think you can get it under insurance)
This basic design has been around and open source for something like ten years now. You can download the model and 3d print it yourself.
Allergies are kicking in...
I’m not crying you f*cks, something got into my eye.
So am I, op, so am I.
That’s her hand right? She gets that hand? They made it for her. She leaves that building with the mobility!? God I hope so!
I used to 3d print these for a local hospital. Was super cool seeing kids be excited.
do you have an STL?
They're available online. I've printed them myself as well as customizing the design. Search e-nable on thingiverse for a version similar to what's seen in this video.

I'm not crying, you're crying
Wow. I might cry too.
By the looks it prob cost under $20. Which is what it SHOULD effing cost!
This looks like an expo,He took it back and said now go buy one mom and dad
Doubt it. These have to be sized and customized for the child. The size and and shape of her hand and the amount of wrist motion she has effect the function of the device. This looks to have been made specifically for her.
That's too bad, she should let them out.
What is the company called?
Take my upvote and have a happy life
I’m not controlling mine. Bless her.
Ok, that's the end of the free trial. $500 for the product!
I don’t know her but am incredibly happy for her
My God, so precious.
!song
I guess i'm just becoming way too cynical for this sub...
I hate this video. It's too fucking cute. Stop it.
When she gives herself a first bump with her new hand 😭
Such a simple yet ingenious piece of work.
Well, I can't control mine. This is wonderful.
She controlled her tears.Sure. But I can't control mine...
Awww..my heart is so happy for her.
A great invention. That girl must be excited
Thing has the grip strength of a claw machine
Sometimes you just need a hand.
Jokes aside, this is amazing. I wonder how it works
How do these work and move without fingers?
They better let her keep that!
Damn she's tougher than me then, 'cause I started tearing up easily
When does she get her father's lightsaber?
First wave of cyborgs is here. Pretty cool looking, ngl.
Me and crying now. She reminds me of my daughter.
I wish i could be this smart to help someone like this
Gotyour hand! gotta whole new meaning now
It's hard enough that kids outgrow their clothes all the time, now they are going to outgrow their hands too? I really goverments can help fund this kind of stuff. Atleast for yhe young
Best thing i have seen today.
Is it that intuitive? Looks like she just put it on for the first time and instantly had good grip control
glad this guy gave her a hand
Is the 3D file for this open source, how cheaply can these be made. There are kids in Africa with no limbs because of mines and other issues that need these cheaply.
Knowing kids, she actually just hates the color green and wishes it was purple.
I’M NOT CRYING, YOU’R CRYING!
Her first action is to connect with another
She fist bumped her self bro I lost it 🥲
This head movie makes my eyes rain
When you control your tears by biting your lips. 😭
🥹💯
I'm nocryimg!! Your crying!!
damn, I hate seeing sad kids
How the hell does that work? It's just strapped on? What is the input system? I mean it's gotta be like, remote controlled by someone doing the demo right?
This stuff shatters my heart. The future is bright. I can't compare this hope with living a hundred years ago.
My heart 🥹
Beautiful 🤩 hope that helps her
Who let the onions out?
Praise Science.
Fantastic
Damn it, now I'm controlling my tears
..its time to draw that transmutation circle and revive mother.
I have a dust in my eye .
Not me!
This is awesome. 😊
As a blind person, disabilities are those who don’t have them! Now watch this little girl grow up to be an amazing woman!
That makes one of us.
Amazing! Time for a pack of EaZyHolds to throw on different things to help out with that new prosthetic :)
Groovy
Aww little sweetheart, good for her!
That's fuckin amazing imho
She is controlling her tears
To me personally, this would only make me feel poorer than I already am if i was missing a hand.
Not to take away from the beauty of this moment, but I really want some finger sized versions of that hand. Imagine being able to grab with 5 tiny hands
The way she holds her arms behind her back at the beginning. She habitually hides her missing hand.
Point: Reject modernity, return to monke Counterpoint:
Sometimes I think we don’t deserve great things in life due to horrific greed and then things like this pop up and my hope for humanity increases again.
it is so cool!! how it work?
I'll admit. That kids tougher than me. Power to her
God give any blessings you have for me to her 🤝
I’m also controlling my tears.
This is the kinda stuff I originally came to Reddit for. Memes and wholesome stuff like this. I’ve truly lost my way.
How does this not have like 30000 likes yet?
Well great, because I can’t control mine!

Nope nope please do not spread your religious disease into this relatively adequate world
Allah didn't give her hand back. Science and engineering did. So sick of seeing fairy tales getting all the credit for good old hard work.
