Yes. For example some people recently posted a legitimate email from the Department of Education's service for subscription updates that they were convinced was a scam. It wasn't. A fair number of people also post legitimate notices they received by mail or email about class action settlements that they think may be a scam and that some amateur sub members say is a scam in the comments.

That’s along the lines of what I was asking about - communication that has the kinds of red flags we’re constantly warned about, but is actually genuine. It’s good that people are learning what to watch out for, but they also need to know how to safely verify a message that could be critically important.

I’ve seen a few. Usually people don’t bother coming here unless alarm bells are going off or something seems too good to be true.

The sub self-selects for people who are knee-deep in a scam or have already been scammed.

Yes. But usually it’s “this stranger said they wanted to give me free money… is this a scam?”

Often. Realtors regularly contact me asking if I wanna sell my house. I’m not a homeowner. It reads very similarly to a pig-butchering scam hook, but really, all that happened is a real estate agent bought a contact book that was out of date.

Well, the mods removed my post for being about more than “I got scammed”, so r/Scams didn’t turn out to be as useful as I had hoped. Peace.

There was one on here that could have been a wrong number scam or maybe just a wrong number and nothing more to it.

Banksville

Pretty much.
