Because some people do fall for the !muse scam.

“The muse scam is a new variant of the [fake check scam](https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/how-spot-avoid-report-fake-check-scams). The scammer will contact the victim over social media and claim to want to use their image for an art project. They will offer a generous sum of money and offer to pay via check. The victim will be instructed to send money to the scammer for “materials” via an irreversible method. The scammer will often use a stolen social media account to increase their credibility. Usually the fake check deposit will be reversed in a few weeks, but it can also take several months. If you do not have the funds to cover the amount, your balance will go negative. Your bank will usually charge a fee for depositing a bad check, and your account may be closed depending on the severity of the scam. The three big reasons, from what I’ve seen from this sub anyways, for falling for scam are as followed; greed, desperation, and boobies. Many people fall for the muse scam as, knowing plenty of artist, commissions can sometimes be hard to come by, so just the *idea* someone is going to pay you a lot of money for your artwork is tempting.

The idea of making money fast and easy can easily make you stop thinking rationally. FOMO and all that.

Well for the muse scam I think some people secretly, or not so secretly, want to be or feel special. So someone telling you you're clever or beautiful or whatever and they want to believe that. And then add getting paid and they are in all the way.

… greed, desperation, and boobies. But mainly boobies.

If boobies = loneliness then yes.

This scam is super common and it does seem to be effective. A lot of people really do seem to trust these types of unsolicited, poorly written messages. Once they see that someone wants to give them five hundred bucks that's pretty much all they see.

>Why do people think we will fall for this Because people do fall for it

It is sad that people fall for such blatant scams. It's the most desperate people, that need money the most, too. Really hate to see it. I like to think threads like this do some good, by helping others see these scams as scams.

Yeah, that's not sus... /s Edit: plus, "she" mentioned an orphanage before switching up her story to needing donors for her art piece. It's like "honey, if you're gonna try to scam someone, maybe commit to the bit full send instead of switching up your story at the first sign of a roadblock, or better yet: DON'T SCAM."

Because some people do.
