Seems to be kind of a pan-Asian thing to some extent, have been subjected to it elsewhere. Americans rightfully get a lot of shit for putting too much sugar in our bread and whatnot, but holy fuck it’s 20 times worse in some places. The sweet spaghetti is *exactly* as horrendous as it sounds BTW. In many places “western food” seems to mean “things that are in the shape of western foods but taste primarily of sugar.”
That's because US 'biscuits' are similar to the thing we British know as 'scones'...
Whereas British 'biscuits' are similar to US 'cookies'.
When you say biscuits and gravy, the average Brit imagines you guys eating cookies with gravy - I think you'd have the same response.
Edit - and that's not even daring to start a discussion on what we both think gravy is hahaha
The PI has the best food in the world. Hands down. When I last visited, I ordered what I thought was enough for my two friends and I but the funny thing is, they had to bring out another collapsible table to put the rest of the food on. 😂 we had everything. Sissig, pansit, snail stew, pork adobo, rice, and lumpia. I think the total bill was around $30 USD.
My husband drove by to look, saw the line and kept going. I told him it would probably be quicker to go to Tukwilla. I was more concerned about a new crew getting overwhelmed, but it looks from your pictures as if things are going pretty smoothly for the first day.
Grand openings are never worth it. I tend to wait 6-12 months before going to new places after they open. Gives time for the store management to figure out proper stocking, staffing issues to iron out, and proper reviews to be posted. I got really excited when Shake Shack went in at Alderwood Mall up in Lynnwood a while back. Well, it’s now at 2.6 stars on Google (it’s even lower on other review platforms) with almost all of the negative reviews having to do with *wildly* incorrect orders, horrible quality control, and wait times of 30-60 minutes. I’m sad to have still never tried Shake Shack, but am also very very glad that I waited and never went there and wasted my money due to the overwhelming negative reviews of this specific location. I’m going to do the same with Jollibee; wait a few months for the hype to die down and then will gauge from there.
My wife has a son who is a chef and he has always recommended waiting on going to a restaurant rather than hit it right at open. Gives it time to work out the recipes, and all that the OP mentions.
Super expensive though. Think I paid $22 for a burger and a shake. Neither of which were particularly good. I can get a better shake and double burger from Pilchuck in Snohomish for $12 after tax.
Swag and specials can usually be gotten at grand openings making it totally worth it. Went to a Schlotzsky’s grand opening and got a year supply of free sandwiches. That ended up being a couple of free sandwiches a week.
One would think but Jollibee is always packed, even at Southcenter Mall. Jollibee is a *huge* chain in the Phillipines so it’s a big deal everytime we get one. Don’t ever go on a Sunday after church
That's why I hadn't tried it yet. I went down to Southcenter months after they opened, saw the line and decided that I really didn't need fast food chicken and spaghetti anyway.
Curiousity got the better of him and we went back. Controlled chaos, but they have a huge crew working and are moving people through pretty efficiently. They're working with an abbreviated menu, but I got my sweet spaghetti and mango pie!
We talked to (I presume) the manager while we waited. She said they've been training two weeks. They'd normally train through an open site, but some of them didn't want to go to Tukwilla for training. They were doing great!
Transplant: “How come there’s hardly any fast food in Seattle?”
r/Seattle: “We have a higher class of taste buds than those midwestern poors and wanna eat healthy”
Transplant: “Hey guys, Jollie Bee finally came to Seattle”
r/Seattle: “FUCK OFF WITH HELLCAT UPDATES! GIMME SOME OF THAT HOTDOG SPAGHETTI RIGHT NOW GAWDAMIIITT”
National fast food chain of the Philippines. Lots of Filipinos nostalgic for food from back home. And word of mouth spreads from Filipinos to others. Plus I think it's really tssty. People are 50/50 on the spaghetti but the fried chicken with gravy and rice is amazing. And the mango pie along with the pineapple drink is really good.
If you go at the right time there’s only a slight line. But yes, it still remains busy… definitely do NOT go on Sundays for the post church crowd.
I’m hoping this one opening (along with the Tacoma one) will eventually make the lines at all 3 shorter.
I went at roughly lunch time a couple of times after doctor appointments up in Tacoma and there was very minimal line. I'm guessing it's mostly just bad on weekends and possibly at like 5-ish when people get off work, but I don't live terribly near there.
This line is a permanent fixture my friend. It will never die down. There will be a queue in front of this chicken joint forever. I actually wish I wasn’t 100% kidding.
The “city” only includes areas where businesses pay dues to the Downtown Seattle Association according to most of city council. My guess is two thirds of them have never stepped foot in this part of the Rainier Valley.
I get the nostalgia (especially for SE Asian folks) but I didn’t understand the hype when I had it in Southcenter. I have a similar nostalgia for In-in-out but I also understand when people feel it’s mid. 🤷♂️
People who expect a Michelin 3 star burger from in-n-out crack me up.
It's great because you could get a tasty, satisfying meal for under $10. It's cheaper than McDonald's/Jack/etc with better ingredients. And you can get protein style if you're concerned about macros.
i mean it's not just nostalgia, food is an active and important part of living out culture. like not to be dismissive but i dont think your connection to in-n-out is exactly the same here.
like yeah it's just fast food but it's *filipino* fast food and for filipinos it's a way to stay connected to their roots. plus it's delicious fried chicken.
I struggle to find a burger like a double double animal style but I wouldn't say it's the best burger I've ever had, it's just different and sometimes I crave it
Now we just need Raising Cane’s, which was supposed to be coming in 2024, I think? (To U district and Renton)
Anyone have any updates on the Cane’s opening dates?
It was supposed to be coming in 2025. https://www.king5.com/article/life/food/raising-canes-seattle-area-location/281-29d0d9b5-e77d-4eaa-bd7c-28b4af29005e
That sauce is very easy to make friendo. It’s ketchup, mayo, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Also add Tony Chachere’s if you want it more “Creole”
Amen brother!
I’d also love a Texas Roadhouse, with their amazing bread rolls. We have one south of Tacoma… but stupidly it’s on Joint Base Lewis McChord military base, and so not accessible to the public.
(As I found out after an hour drive down there, a couple years ago)
Jimmie Mac’s Roadhouse is a poor imitation.
Yeah, the Portland location is so odd! There's only one in all of Portland. They're usually out in the suburbs, or often on college campuses. But the one in Portland is in a downtown mall next to a Gucci or something.
It's also funny how much more crowded it is than the other restaurants in that food court
Just some friendly summer vibe share, order the pineapple juice and spike it with dark rum. My Ninang taught me it when I turned 21 years ago, best summer drink
My Safeway parking lot. I was there around 2ish and not bad like I expected all day to be. I wanted that bee to be out dancing suggestively and was disappointed.
Hopefully this eases the crowds at the Southcenter one since that is still the easier one to get to for me, though with Seafood City next to it any hopes of crowd easing may not play out as much as hoped
Filipina here who grew up in the Philippines. Jollibee is not just as “fast food” to us, Filipinos. It’s part of our culture now. Most kids in the Philippines celebrate their birthday parties at Jollibee. Students go to Jollibee to get their lunches cause they are affordable. Jollibee are meeting up places. It’s a place of memories for us. Some branches even have playgrounds inside. I still remember what my hometown’s Jollibee looks like from the top of my head. These kids who grew up in the Philippines who are adults now and migrated here probably feel the same way towards Jollibee. It brings nostalgic feelings. Personally, it’s my comfort food. The taste of the food not just satisfies me but also makes me feel good. Wherever you go in the Philippines (Urban areas), there is a Jollibee. So the sight of that red happy bee feels like home to us in some way.
The spaghetti being sweet is a different story lol but the spicy chicken, peach mango pie, pineapple juice and their gravy are must try!
I've been too the Philippines a few times for different jobs. Every time it's for around a week and I probably get Jollibee 4-5 times every trip. It's really good for what it is. First and foremost people need to remember it's still just fast food. But it's tasty and relatively inexpensive. I visit the ones in Southern California when I'm down there and it's still good. The Southcenter location is always busy so it's pretty popular. I suggest everyone try it out and decide for your self instead of listening to the negativity some people have brought to this thread.
I'm trying to figure it out too. The one at Southcenter has been there for years and it's 9 miles from this location, it's not like we didn't have an accessible Jollibee before
Do you guys have spicy chicken up there? Literally cannot get spicy in Texas over the past couple of months.
The last place I had it was, ironically , tukwila.
Wouldn't it be faster to just drive to the one in Tukwila? I should go buy out all the Peach Mango Pie and a bunch of chicken and then setup shop next to this new one. I'll make a sign "Same food. A little cold. No wait. Double price. "
The national guard will have to come in when In N Out opens up here if y'all go that crazy over Jollibee. If you really wanted it, one has been in Tukwila for years.
Their FIRST rule is - Only Dine-in, to go, drive thru available.... uhm, is there some other choice I am missing?
Delivery, lol.
Most restaurants don't deliver themselves anymore, except pizza and Chinese.
Not in the Philippines. Jollibee delivery is very popular and is very much a thing.
Got it to my hotel once... The Jollibee is in the same building as the hotel 😂
So would Uber Eats / Doordash violate that rule?
I just checked Uber Eats for this specific Jollibee location and it said "Not accepting orders."
hotdog/sandwich discourse, meet burger/spaghetti discourse
That spaghetti fucking slaps. Tastes like childhood.
What? It tastes like ketchup. I couldn't stomach it, way too sweet
spaghetti in the Philippines is a dessert. tons of sugar in it
Wtf
Seems to be kind of a pan-Asian thing to some extent, have been subjected to it elsewhere. Americans rightfully get a lot of shit for putting too much sugar in our bread and whatnot, but holy fuck it’s 20 times worse in some places. The sweet spaghetti is *exactly* as horrendous as it sounds BTW. In many places “western food” seems to mean “things that are in the shape of western foods but taste primarily of sugar.”
I know, how dare a foreign country do things differently than you're used to!
No? I would just call it a different dish, what a weird response.
The British have a similar response to biscuits and gravy. LOL
[This is worth a watch](https://youtu.be/KzdbFnv4yWQ?si=9znbkkmh0g2ACgtD)
The British have been wrong about a lot of things.
That's because US 'biscuits' are similar to the thing we British know as 'scones'... Whereas British 'biscuits' are similar to US 'cookies'. When you say biscuits and gravy, the average Brit imagines you guys eating cookies with gravy - I think you'd have the same response. I almost exclusively use Filipino spaghetti sauce now. I love the sweetness. Plus, it comes in bags, which is much cooler than jars.
Plastic bags though.......
Banana ketchup is the best.
Got some of that too. My son doesn't like it, though, so we go through it pretty slowly.
Haha. Ketchup cafeteria spaghetti? I’ll pass. Come here INN N OUT Burger NOW!
Yeah it's basically a nostalgic comfort food
Ah good. I like to know the spaghetti policy of places before I spend money there.
[what is your spaghetti policy here?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leCMTfjCEFM)
Jollibee’s spaghetti policy is overdose of ketchup with a plastic see-through glove. 🥊
The only ones who have discourse are the non-Filipinos who have never tried it.
You can drive from that one to the one at Southcenter in under 30 minutes. I bet you'd get your food faster doing that considering that line
TIL I learned that none of these people have eaten at Jollibee before.
Or know any Filipinos.
I've never had it before either. It's it good?
It's good. Don't listen to the haters.
Get chicken rice and gravy
Meh
Thought the same thing. Tried it for the first time yesterday in Tacoma and wasn't impressed
I had it on the Phillipines and wasn't impressed lol
Is this a spaghetti chicken restaurant lol
Where spaghetti is a very loose term? Yes. 😂
Is it good?
Is spaghetti covered in corn-syrup-heavy ketchup good? Apparently to some people.
What is your spaghetti policy here?
Yes.
My husband drove by to look, saw the line and kept going. I told him it would probably be quicker to go to Tukwilla. I was more concerned about a new crew getting overwhelmed, but it looks from your pictures as if things are going pretty smoothly for the first day.

The one at U Village is pretty good.
My wife has a son who is a chef and he has always recommended waiting on going to a restaurant rather than hit it right at open. Gives it time to work out the recipes, and all that the OP mentions.
The Shake Shack in Kirkland isn't too bad.
Super expensive though. Think I paid $22 for a burger and a shake. Neither of which were particularly good. I can get a better shake and double burger from Pilchuck in Snohomish for $12 after tax.

It’s pretty good, worth trying at some point, but not a high priority for sure
It did. The line was gone by 11am.
The mango pie is so good. Reminds me of the McDonalds pies of my childhood before they ruined them.

They have had one in South Center mall for over 10 years.
I will never understand why people stand in lines like this, instead of just waiting a week.
If the Southcenter location is anything to go by the line isn’t a temporary thing

They gave out tons of free swag today for the opening.
My friend was in the line because the first 100 got free meal cards for a year
because they can
Nostalgia. Makes me miss my mama 🇵🇭
It’s all about the gravy
I'm surprised the city council didn't attend the opening like the McDonald's opening.
What McDonald’s opening?

God KOMO is insufferable with their writing.
Sinclair owned right wing shills
Lmao what is that link
Oh I remember that. Thanks
Omg that url is the most KOMO shit I’ve ever seen
The “city” only includes areas where businesses pay dues to the Downtown Seattle Association according to most of city council. My guess is two thirds of them have never stepped foot in this part of the Rainier Valley.
Also, not a single local tv crew in sight.
I have never once not seen this place without a line way out the door, always wanted to try it but the Southcenter location is always packed
The trick is to order online for pick-up and use the $5 discount code found on their website.
The line generally moves pretty fast. The staff does well to keep everything moving.
Yes, and what is your spaghetti policy here?
I get the nostalgia (especially for SE Asian folks) but I didn’t understand the hype when I had it in Southcenter. I have a similar nostalgia for In-in-out but I also understand when people feel it’s mid. 🤷♂️

I agree that it’s solid **for the price** and I absolutely grew up eating it but I wouldn’t call it Michelin star lmao.
Of course not. I think people visit CA and expect spiritual enlightenment with in-n-out and come back disappointed. Like Paris syndrome. Lol.
I had a croissant in Paris was not disappointed
It’s ok - they’re just lost souls.
i mean it's not just nostalgia, food is an active and important part of living out culture. like not to be dismissive but i dont think your connection to in-n-out is exactly the same here. like yeah it's just fast food but it's *filipino* fast food and for filipinos it's a way to stay connected to their roots. plus it's delicious fried chicken.

Live in London for a year or two and you’ll be fiend-ing for any delicious burger from the states, let alone the glory of the Animal.

This is all I want in life. I just wanna be able to dunk a fresh hot tender in that stupid good cane’s sauce.
That sauce is very easy to make friendo. It’s ketchup, mayo, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Also add Tony Chachere’s if you want it more “Creole”
Walmart also has a genetic brand rip-off which seems to be pretty dang close: https://youtu.be/nrPufbtgHzU

I’ve actually never been to Texas Roadhouse. Been to outback in Everett once and I don’t wanna go again really. I can cook a way better steak haha.
It’s vastly better food than Outback, and a little cheaper too, if I remember right
Now that's somewhere I'll line up for!
Not exactly the same but Rent does have Big Chicken
Big Chicken now open in Shoreline by Central Market
Oh, didn't know that. Thanks!
One opening by where I live. How does it stack up to these other chicken chains?
Awesome! I’ll give it a few weeks.
Exact location [https://maps.app.goo.gl/ULhbsyXvU2dWbgw86](https://maps.app.goo.gl/ULhbsyXvU2dWbgw86) More photos [https://www.kingcrux.com/2024/06/the-joy-of-it-all.html](https://www.kingcrux.com/2024/06/the-joy-of-it-all.html)
It's funny because it had been a mod pizza for a minute and some other fast food before. Always gets graffiti. Hopefully Jollibee does better.
Used to be a Taco Bell
That's right.
hell yeah!
As much as there are some great places for chicken, I crave their chicken sometimes.
Just some friendly summer vibe share, order the pineapple juice and spike it with dark rum. My Ninang taught me it when I turned 21 years ago, best summer drink
I mean it’s fast food. Don’t forget that.
Jollibee is to Philippinos as Dicks is to people from Seattle; you’re gonna say “I don’t get this” and they’re gonna say I grew up with it mannnn.
My Safeway parking lot. I was there around 2ish and not bad like I expected all day to be. I wanted that bee to be out dancing suggestively and was disappointed.
Their peach mango pies are amazing
I get them at the downtown Vancouver location. Just reminds me of the McDonalds turnovers.
Paired with a pineapple juice drink 😋
Nobody tell my wife.
[удалено]
More than likely it’s her cussins or aunties that told her.
Hopefully this eases the crowds at the Southcenter one since that is still the easier one to get to for me, though with Seafood City next to it any hopes of crowd easing may not play out as much as hoped
Someone is going to have to explain this hype to me because isn’t it still just fast food?
But this time its sugar coated! No…literally
Filipina here who grew up in the Philippines. Jollibee is not just as “fast food” to us, Filipinos. It’s part of our culture now. I'm trying to figure it out too. The one at Southcenter has been there for years and it's 9 miles from this location, it's not like we didn't have an accessible Jollibee before
There’s always a long ass line down there too!
Weird, I haven't been in years but I don't remember it being that long. I bet it's still shorter than the line at the new location
Surreal to see the shopping center it's in being so lively. Between Safeway and Ross it's usually a bunch of tweakers in the parking lot.
TFTI
I fucking texted you. 😂
Whenever I think of jollibees I think of that YouTube documentary about pagpag where Jollibee is one of the main sources for it.
Should I go join the line now?
Niceeee just right across the lake from me. I've been dreaming about their peach mango pies lately but don't want the hassle of going to Southcenter
The chicken and pie rationing is real 😂
$10 for spaghetti and some sugar water?
*10 for dish of starch, ketchup and corn syrup and then a cup of sugar water
Do you guys have spicy chicken up there? Literally cannot get spicy in Texas over the past couple of months. The last place I had it was, ironically , tukwila.
We do!
I will end up reading through the comments in order to figure out what this is... But I assume coffee?
Chicken, spaghetti and more!
Wouldn't it be faster to just drive to the one in Tukwila? I should go buy out all the Peach Mango Pie and a bunch of chicken and then setup shop next to this new one. I'll make a sign "Same food. A little cold. No wait. Double price. "
Definitely no legal repercussions from this. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Call the Jollibee police, idgaf 😤 I'll be over here in this big white van slangin chicken and pies.
Not if you live north of Rainier Valley Square like me.
All these people not knowing that there has been one at the south center mall for at least a decade
My poor cholesterol levels. Sorry primary care, I need this.
Everyone is standing in line; the food must be great!
I would gladly trade you the one we have near me for a Taco Time. - Desperately Seeking Crisp Meat Burrito in Carson, CA
I just want in n out 😞
Go to Pick Quick, I know, not the same, but still pretty cheap and the closest I've found, especially if you prefer raw onion.
I’m with you. I know.
What the heck is jollibee? A fast food chicken restaurant?
Yes. From the Philippines.
i dont think its AI but it seems so AI for some reason😭
All these photos and not one of the actual food??
I went to the one in Tacoma. Chicken was good. Spaghetti was gross. I ate it because I’m cheap and hate wasting food but my kid and partner would not.
Let me guess, no spicy chicken? EVERYWHERE THEY'VE RAN OUT AND IT'S PISSING ME OFF
I ordered a bucket of 6 spicy chicken pieces yesterday and it was gloriously spicier than usual.
6 pieces is a bucket now?
WTF is a Jolibee?
Baking in the sun like a potato to get a bucket of slop.
The national guard will have to come in when In N Out opens up here if y'all go that crazy over Jollibee. If you really wanted it, one has been in Tukwila for years.
Had this in the Philippines. So overrated.
My wife is Filipino and grew up on this stuff. I always tell her it's the red headed step child of McDonalds and KFC.
It’s not about ratings. All about vibes.
Ugh, Capitalism is disgusting
Get excited for the new hype slop of the month.
mid
Chickenjoy? Yumburger? Bucket treats? Jolly Spaghetti? … sounds terrifying
There is a drive thru??
Yup!
How much for the bucket of chicken ballon?
Are there chicken tenders? I didn't see them on the menu.
The manager says they'll have them later, they're working with a smaller menu to start.
Negative.
Wait, there are 3? Did 3 of them open at the same time?
3 now in Washington state. The newest one opened today in Rainier Valley Square.
I just want a sweatshirt. 😢
🥴
Come here INN N OUT Burger NOW! “We need you!”
