The other person probably hasn't been given the price yet....
Like I get it , I'm sure of you actually calculated the price charting value it would be .... Maybe $350, $400 tops. But almost $800 is fucking ridiculous, I think the most valuable game is $20.
When I met the lady she seemed nice and seemed like she just wanted to clear out their house. Apparently they are moving from NY to Colorado.
Oh well
Gamestop would have given you a 5% store credit on your next first single used game in the store for the next 30 days. If you are willing to fight for it.
I can only assume that they thought $20 for a used game is fine, so they multiplied that by how many game they had. Or someone just gave them really bad info
What I’ve done in the past when I’ve been sent such a high number is just casually ask “how did you get to that number”? and wait for the response. They usually plucked a “oh these are old so must be sort after collectors pieces” price out of thin air.
I was like ohhhh I was thinking 100 and they were like that's way too low , then I told them about price charting and to do more research on the prices
The “other interested buyer” probably backed out after hearing the price too, so the seller just decided to keep them in hopes they’re as valuable in the future as they think they are.
I wouldn’t have followed up the next day if I were you. They clearly aren’t gonna go for less than the price they had in their head, & it just makes you look like you were trying to lowball (which you weren’t).
Probably just going off of full prices of games. 60 bucks times 48 or however many games there are. So they think the whole thing is worth like 3000 dollars and 750 is the steep discount. Not knowing anything about games and just HOW MUCH games depreciate.
I literally couldn't believe it.
I didn't even think they would contact me, so I was super excited.
The games were ok, nothing crazy... I love my 360 but I'm not too into the OG Xbox, honestly I was like $100 would be pushing it...
Then they hit me with $750... Like bro I can buy a ps5 and 2 games for less than that.
It was quite the rollercoaster. I responded with saying the games are all like $5-10 games and $300 would be pushing it, and sent them the link to price charting. They didn't respond lol
My thoughts exactly. I would've just said I appreciate the message back but that's too out of my price range and not even bothered throwing out a number to them
Sales psychology man you should have not given them a reason. Just responded with somthing along the lines of "Hey thanks, don't want to waste anymore of your time you should sell to the other bidder." When you responded eagerly to purchase the entire collection you built up value for the sale in their mind when trying to walk down the price you likely solidified its perceived value.
By politely but dismissively waving off their offer rather than trying to bargain the price down you can put them on the back foot and get them to chase you for the sale rather than the other way around (we all know there is as no real 2nd buyer. Sales is more often about emotion and perceived value rather than actual logic and data.
The offer was so outlandish I really wantes to educate them and get resources to actually look up the proper 2nd market value.
Honestly if they said $100 id still be hesitant to actually follow through, it's not a very exciting lot.
I have a feeling it will end up in the garbage or a thrift store.
Educating sellers that are selling their nostalgia based on emotion is a futile attempt. Don’t waste your time or give them anymore reason to think what they have is valuable.
That’s crazy. If they’re moving, & the games weren’t even theirs & just looking to get rid of shit quick, idk why they’re so firm on the price.
I can see a reseller sitting on them in hopes for higher price, but if I was an old dude with stuff that wasn’t even mine & trying to get rid of shit for a move, I would’ve taken what you offered & moved on.
I was like "oh wow , I was thinking closer to $100, if you want to double check the prices check out price charting.com, im pretty sure the max this lot would cost off eBay would be $300."
That’s the best response. I occasionally will politely “educate” people posting on OfferUp or marketplace that their asking price is ridiculous. Typically they either thank me, or don’t respond, but lower the price. Once in a while people will become hostile.
I really can not describe the feeling I get when people think they're stuff, let alone games, is worth this much. I'm almost jealous that they live in this blissful state of thinking they're sitting on a goldmine. Of how all the education they have on gaming is when they read an article about how Castlevania sold for 90k on ebay. Watching facebook videos about video game collectors spending their life savings and resellers making a killing. It's almost cute in a way, child like if you will. I almost feel required to 'parent' them and show them ebay sold listings and local gamestores that have Halo for $4 and Sports games for $2.
It's awe inspiring.
The Castlevania thing is exactly what happens. I saw a Mario 3 CIB at a yard sale for $900 today. I asked why the price and the guy said he saw one one ebay go for around that. He said it was in another box but this one was nicer than that one so he put around the same price. Pretty sure he saw a graded one and thought that's what they're all worth.
I understand the news wanting to report it sensationally, as well as the gross oversimplification of even the damn headlines for Internet fluff and/or advertising space, but this is ridiculous.
Less than three years ago, I got a top-loading NES with 'dog-bone' controller, a handful of loose carts/manuals ***and*** the aforementioned CIB Super Mario 3 for something like $250 or $300.
If memory serves, the CIB Super Mario 3 in and of itself was only \~$50\~ of that total.
And to think I was a little mad at the guy who sold me my copy when he originally asked for $150.
Yo. That's one of my childhood game classics, it's better than you would think.
Also I'm like 99% sure Ubisoft reused code or atleast game mechanics to form their Assasins Creed Black Flag. It's too damn similar
In a situation like that I'd tell them if they have someone interested they need to jump on it this instant because that is an out of this world deal for them (the seller).
Jesus.
I have a massive game collection spanning PS2, PS3, PS4, and 360. I even have an original Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the first sin on 360, still in the plastic wrap. And even I wouldn't sell my whole collection for that much
All the games there are really good and $100-150 is a really good deal for 46. I'm guessing they searched online what retail prices are, reduced it a tad and came to that price.
did a tally from Price Charting and well, $750 is more than double of its worth.
Total price at USD 362.81 excl. tax.
and since we don't know the disc condition, it should be much lesser than that.
https://preview.redd.it/h6k09szs0i1d1.png?width=517&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f1fe898d19080f62738b5c840a809ec27ed07ee
I would simply say that the games are not close to that value even new, that is 10 times more than you would be willing to pay and that they should go with the other person. then thank them for taking the time to take the photo's and get back to you. Be polite though (not enough politness in the world)
I bought Jericho at 7-Eleven back in the day. Maybe I was too young for it, but man that game sucked.
Same thing with Vanpire Rain (although that one's not listed here)
The thing is, this collection would have been built by someone over years. I'd be curious to ask why they sell the whole lot, it must be either a heartbreaking or heartless situation for the seller.
Just turn and walk away. Ain't no way it's worth the hassle even trying to bargain.
The sealed games aren't anything special. The 360 games are hardly rare. And the og games are cheap, assuming you don't just pirate and ftp to a modded box
Somebody got on price chart and looked everyone of them up. Still that seems steep. I didn't look at what all is in the lot honestly...looks like 42 titles at retail. Uh ok. Lol
Some of them are original Xbox console games. You should ask her how many crack rocks the packages comes with, cuz she’s smoking something pretty heavy
I'd reply with "wow, $750 and you have someone interested. Well, if you know a chump willing to pay chump prices then go for it. If that deal falls through then let me know and we'll work out a deal that is actually reasonable and reflects reality"
Just negotiate, and give them 50% of the price you’d be willing to pay, to meet with them at 80%
People who have no clue what something is worth tend to start with whatever is the max they think they can get from it.
At the end of the day, all that matters is the final deal. Educate them and see if it gets anywhere.
"sorry, but I could literally buy any brand new game console and multiple new games at that price, you should accept the other buyer's offer"
i say 15% chance there's a real other buyer, sounds more like you got the first price they thought of, followed by them daring you to pay it.
That’s nuts. I picked up 26 Wii games at a garage sale for $40 a few years back. I might’ve gone up to $60, but someone asking hundreds for old games better have a few gems in there. I’d love to find some old NES dragon warrior games for my wife or old KOIEI games on NES or SNES for myself, but the days of garage sale finds for those are long gone I fear
Bahaha, I never even keep my old games from previous gen, and buy everything digital for the convenience and crazy sales anyways.
Physical copies were cool when every game came with a cool little booklet, these days there's just no reason to buy physical copies
I'd just say haggle. "sorry, but that's far too high. How's $100? No? OK, what can you offer?" Then meet more or less in the middle.
They had good taste in games! KOTOR alone is worth the hundred!
Hahahah! Fuck, I was just talking about this shit in another thread. People $1000 for an item and then 10 years later they want $1000 for it because that’s what it cost them new. Delusional.

Bro there’s someone else looking to buy better pull the trigger
The other person probably hasn't been given the price yet.... Like I get it , I'm sure of you actually calculated the price charting value it would be .... Maybe $350, $400 tops. But almost $800 is fucking ridiculous, I think the most valuable game is $20. When I met the lady she seemed nice and seemed like she just wanted to clear out their house. Apparently they are moving from NY to Colorado. Oh well
She almost certainly looked up the price of some random Xbox game, then multiplied by 46.
Yeah that's what happened.
Happy cake day
Thanks!
What's the deal with the happy cake day thing?. I get confused everytime I see it.
On each anniversary of the day you created your account, a little cake icon will appear next to your name for 24 hours
Happy cake day
Happy cake day c:
Reddit anniversary. Kind of like your account's birthday.
$400 seems very steep tho. I’ve been around long enough to see all these games in the wild for $5 tops each. I would’ve bitten at $50 tops lol
They would be lucky to even get 50 bucks at any game store.
Gamestop would have given you a 5% store credit on your next first single used game in the store for the next 30 days. If you are willing to fight for it.
I like that you have to state u have to fight for it god game stop sucks
Yeah, I'm sure the other person wants to buy and is totally not a selling tactic...
I can only assume that they thought $20 for a used game is fine, so they multiplied that by how many game they had. Or someone just gave them really bad info
The other person doesn't exist
What I’ve done in the past when I’ve been sent such a high number is just casually ask “how did you get to that number”? and wait for the response. They usually plucked a “oh these are old so must be sort after collectors pieces” price out of thin air.
350...pesos?
Pesos Argentinos
Kingdom come deliverance is fire though!! If you can tough it out.
fire banger fleek ngl fr no cap
Lmfao the second person doesn’t exist, its a pressure tactic
Yeah that price is insane
Did you not try to haggle?
I was like ohhhh I was thinking 100 and they were like that's way too low , then I told them about price charting and to do more research on the prices
Dude you can buy a xbox 360 s with no hdd for 50 usd them people insane
Update?

Let em

400 is still ridiculous! Personally, I wouldn't pay more than £100 for these games. No heavy hitters in the bundle
$400 tops for Xbox games? I’d say $250
Nowhere near $250. The most valuable game there is the sealed Kingdom Come at like $30. Some of that shit you can't give away.
Bruh. 😂 That price is freaking insane.
I literally couldn't believe it. I didn't even think they would contact me, so I was super excited. The games were ok, nothing crazy... It’s better that they don’t, you don’t want to get into an argument with crazy people.
My thoughts exactly. I would've just said I appreciate the message back but that's too out of my price range and not even bothered throwing out a number to them
And the ps5 can play 4K uhd blu-rays if you have the disc version
Sales psychology man you should have not given them a reason. This stuff was their kids and was left in their house, no idea why they valued it so high
I was so excited because it seemed like I'd be getting a deal... Nope just a funny reddit story
I feel like the post was worth more than all the games 😂
I doubt you would get them to drop the price by $650 to what would be a reasonable price for all those games. No point in bothering with sales tactics
..was the zero a mistake? Can you imagine the gold mine we are all sitting on if this was a real thing
Brother in Christ that's a SEALED copy of Tom Clancy's the DIVISION. That game alone is worth 0.99$...
Gotta love the "someone else interested to buy". Like that pour soul :/
Def bluffing
100% bluff, no one would want those games for $750
“No thanks” and leave it at that. Come back if they pull their head outta their ass 💀
Anybody who starts pricing that ludicrously high will never pull their head outta their ass.
I really can not describe the feeling I get when people think they're stuff, let alone games, is worth this much. I'm almost jealous that they live in this blissful state of thinking they're sitting on a goldmine. Oh I definitely told them to double check their work
I don’t think it’s so much they think it’s worth this much, just hoping someone is too dumb to know what it’s actually worth
Another side of the coin
"Well I wouldn't wanna be mean and snatch that deal if you have someone else that wants it more!"
I would just offer your price and then wait. No one is going to buy that lol, that is a stupid amount of money. They'll eventually accept your offer
I think the bridge is burned but we shall see. Honestly the only game id actually want is the weird pirates of the Caribbean Bethesda game
Yo. That's one of my childhood game classics, it's better than you would think. Also I'm like 99% sure Ubisoft reused code or atleast game mechanics to form their Assasins Creed Black Flag. It's too damn similar
That game was actually really badass. Didn't know Bethesda made it, that's pretty cool
...... Seven hundred and fifty dollars....? Sheesh. I guess they know what they have lol
I've seen people sell consoles with controllers and about the same amount of games for wayyyy cheaper lol Like, over $300 cheaper
There’s always someone else interested when they want a stupid price
Update!! https://preview.redd.it/s7prb0ef4g1d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac3fa375a396ada7aca36b890e099d8505bf66a7
This is much more logical
Yeah I figured one more message, so I'll check them out tomorrow and see if it's worth it
Just annoys me they needed that extra $5 to feel like they won
Hahah , my goal is to go there and not leave with the games unless I'm only paying $100
Nice I wish you luck that would be great
HOLY HELL 750?!?!?
Lmfao. People are insane
I forgot what sub this was, i was like, "these are neat games" Not neat price though
In a situation like that I'd tell them if they have someone interested they need to jump on it this instant because that is an out of this world deal for them (the seller).
*I was expecting something like $100-$150 tops...* Same thing, most I would offer would be $3 each, bringing the total to $138.
Hahahahaha $750 for that?!
But the division has never been opened, so it should still cost $60- that lady probably
Bro that plants vs zombies is worth at least $98
Holy fuck. If someone gave me an offer like that, I'd block them on sight.
They really valued all of the games at $16? They are dellusional
I hope you negotiated for 740 😂
did a tally from Price Charting and well, $750 is more than double of its worth. Total price at USD 362.81 excl. tax. and since we don't know the disc condition, it should be much lesser than that. https://preview.redd.it/h6k09szs0i1d1.png?width=517&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f1fe898d19080f62738b5c840a809ec27ed07ee
You are a saint and a scholar! Hope OP sees this!!
Its worth it just for breakdown. Ifykyk.
I mean some of the og xbox games have value but even then 200 tops
I have thrifted nearly all of these titles for $3-$5, and still see many of them innthrift stores regularly.
750? Lmao
It looks like someone busted a fat load on that copy of halo 2 😭
Can you ask them if I can have the number of whoever is interested? I've got some junk I need to offload.
Is this other interested party in the room with us right now?
“Sentiment value “ at its finest ,pass 😂
Yeah I know that's a bunch of games but jeez that's seems like an bit much
![gif](giphy|LDBuYzAwu8L4I|downsized)
I would simply say that the games are not close to that value even new, that is 10 times more than you would be willing to pay and that they should go with the other person. then thank them for taking the time to take the photo's and get back to you. Be polite though (not enough politness in the world)
Just politely say that is way too much, and offer what you think is correct. They may be offended but clearly don't have a clue on the market.
I was like what’s wrong with this collection until I saw that goofy ass price
lol, I'd pass on a lot of these games at $1 each. Clancy's Division is a coaster.
Dude u can get a PS5 and a few games with that price
I bought Jericho at 7-Eleven back in the day. Maybe I was too young for it, but man that game sucked. Same thing with Vanpire Rain (although that one's not listed here)
That puts each of those games around $21 a piece. I don’t know that there’s a single game in there worth $21 by itself.
I'd ask if they added a zero by mistake... lol
750 is actually a lie
Breakdown is worth 750 on its own! Fucking love that game 😂
Lmfao what a joke, bargain bin bullshit. The older games may be retro now but I peep nothing that wasn’t on sale for 5-10$ a pop at GameStop
Y’all are tripping, Monopoly for Xbox 360 easily makes up for the $500 over msrp asking price
Dk oldies even more scammy
$750? I am guessing they meant $7.50
Some of those games are straight up abandonware. I wouldn't pay more then 200
$200 would be nuts. I’d give $50 max.
Yes $50 is top dollar lol. Idk where people are getting $200 I think the post 2020 price surge really is stuck in peoples minds
lol. $150-$175?
Did you buy them?
750 is crazy
Most I’d pay is $350 USD. Anything more than that is fucking robbery
Holy shit that's a ton of money
Price is ridiculous
Tell them you give ‘em 20 bucks and to think about it
I mean at a yard sale and stuff… this is about $20-$40. A lot of these games you cam get for next to nothing.
The thing is, this collection would have been built by someone over years. I'd be curious to ask why they sell the whole lot, it must be either a heartbreaking or heartless situation for the seller.
I'd never give this person my money
Just turn and walk away. Ain't no way it's worth the hassle even trying to bargain. The sealed games aren't anything special. The 360 games are hardly rare. And the og games are cheap, assuming you don't just pirate and ftp to a modded box
750$ 🤣
Somebody got on price chart and looked everyone of them up. Still that seems steep. I didn't look at what all is in the lot honestly...looks like 42 titles at retail. Uh ok. Lol
Pretty cool coaster collection for $750
delulu 🤣
7,50 sounds about right
And they never opened kingdom come? They really missed out
LMAOOOOO what a time to be alive
Loooool at the ask price, I'd do AT BEST $5 a game for that lot.
Reply and tell them you hope the other interested buyer enjoys the games.
It's not a bad collection, but the price is absolutely outrageous, that's basically the price of the games if you bought them new.
750!?!?! 250 if you scour the world wide web
GameStop prices
For that?! They have no clue of market value for these 😂 ![gif](giphy|JASMGtVQrgIRLTdxQp)
That’s more than my fiancé paid for his GAEMS Guardian Pro XP, lmfao
Tell him someone actually just texted you offering you those exact games plus 8 more for 250$
There's a ton of good old games in that but it's worth no way NEAR 750. I'd pay like 150-200 at best.
Yes? well offer them 100$ and be done with it. Negotiations happen all the time and nobody knows your level unless you tell it.
lol they are basing it on day 1 prices
I dunno i see people try to sell the og halo for 200 bucks at the flea market. Lol people be crazy
There is always someone else interested. Especially when they want to pressure you into buying
That's atleast 200$ max
750 🤣 🤣
Best i can do is $3.50
I thought she was about to say something like $50 lol.
Maybe missed the decimal and meant 7.50? 😂
I’d just buy Blazing Angels 2.
Just negotiate, and give them 50% of the price you’d be willing to pay, to meet with them at 80% People who have no clue what something is worth tend to start with whatever is the max they think they can get from it. At the end of the day, all that matters is the final deal. Educate them and see if it gets anywhere.

From my own experience, there’s never anyone else seriously looking. It’s just to make you freak out and buy it for their asking price.
Were they being sold by a comedian?
Who does this jackass think he's fooling what a ripoff lol
150 tops
That’s nuts. I picked up 26 Wii games at a garage sale for $40 a few years back. I might’ve gone up to $60, but someone asking hundreds for old games better have a few gems in there. I’d love to find some old NES dragon warrior games for my wife or old KOIEI games on NES or SNES for myself, but the days of garage sale finds for those are long gone I fear
$750 Zimbabwe dollars is a steal.
If used games sold for this much id sell my collection and buy a island to live on
Nothing special in there at all. They'd be extremely lucky to get 10% of what they are asking for everything
Bahaha, I never even keep my old games from previous gen, and buy everything digital for the convenience and crazy sales anyways. Physical copies were cool when every game came with a cool little booklet, these days there's just no reason to buy physical copies
I remember as a kid we just gave our whole ps2 and all the games (20+) away for 10 bucks. This is CRAZY
That's basically every market place listing these days.

I mean just checking price chart the games in the first picture are worth 50 bucks alone *
Personally I’d only pay 125-150 for that lot.
Oh… here I was thinking 30 bucks would be a decent price
Am I the only one that thought a d pic was coming?
I would take the copy of Breakdown off their hands ✋️
Xbox games too, why bother
Price em out with an appreciation site and give them your counter offer with an itemized pricing chart and 15% off for buying a bulk lot.
does it come with a blow job?
If I was selling this, I would be happy to sell it at 200
People are funny!

Delusional.
$7.50
$750???? Lol
I mean splinter cell was a banger
