Good for you baking your own bread. But I respectfully disagree that Breadsmith is
mediocre and equivalent to HyVee bread. If you don’t like it, don’t go there. But no need to drag down a longtime locally-owned business that many appreciate.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who could tell.
Their doughs are a) over proved and pancake, b) overstuffed if they're the sandwich loaves and are often gummy in the center from too much dough, and c) just don't have enough structure or strength (more pancaking out)
Look's bakehouse makes much better breads (for cheaper too - I paid $8 for a load at Breadico a while back)
Oooh my goodness. Looks is the absolute worst thing in this town for anything other than their dry aged meat options. Even then I dry age my own beef, so I don't buy that at Looks either. I do think Looks does a good job there.
Their price point is way off for the quality of goods they carry.
Agree that Oh My Cupcakes is bottom-tier. There is a pandemic of Sioux Falls residents praising mediocrity as if they’ve never eaten actually good food (and maybe they haven’t).
I like their jalapeño cheese bread but I generally just get it once a year when I do the first big pot of chili when it gets cold.
They also donate unsold bread to food charities, which is neat. Granted the alternative is throwing it in the dumpster, but I've taken some home after we weren't able to give away all our bread and it wasn't really stale at all, so a day old or two at most.
Honestly, I disagree. I have a gulten intolerance, but I can still eat breadsmiths sour dough. I ate hyvees once and got sick. It's by no means the same quality.
One of the owner’s is a long time friend of mine, just wish I worked downtown on the days they’re open so I could get lunch there. Highly recommend! Everything is top notch and delicious.
Just walked through the building this weekend and saw it for the first time. Looks good, I should have bought something. Are they just baked goods or sandwiches too?

Breadsmith is not local. Breadsmith is a franchise. If you want a good bakery go to breadico. Don't get me started on box mix Oh My Cupcakes.
Bredico uses to be good, then something changed in their recipes and the bread is no longer edible.

Not surprising. Fryin pan is 95% of people who live here favorite restaurant
That’s the entire state.

Changed my comment to locally-owned, which is true.
It's as locally owned as Culver's is.
Agree with you 100%.
It’s better than other bread here.

Pretentious bread people are so lame lol

Funny. Breadsmith doesn't use sourdough starter. They use sourdough instant yeast. I asked for this exact reason. Breadico does use sourdough starter.
Why are you eating any bread with a gluten intolerance?
Think about it
This isn't going to go ever well by recommending HyVee, but their salted New York Rye is pretty damn good.
Try North End Bakery in the Jones building. My personal favorite in town.

I don't think there's anywhere good to get deli sub rolls of you are not at a delivery sandwich spot.

The same could probably be said for all fast food restaurants

You’re going to the wrong Hy-Vee. The Minnesota location has the best bread
Checkout the bread at The Cookie Jar
