It’s funny because I’ve heard Thrash Metal with whiny high pitch type vocals lol Doesn’t bother me tho. I like Thrash, Death, Nu Metal, Metallic Hardcore, Melodic Metalcore and more 😀

[deleted]

Pirate deathcore ?

hunterslaughter

Sounds good. But I prefer Melodic Vikingcore

[deleted]

I see, a cultured man

emo_hooman

This sounds fucking awesome you got any examples?

Thx I'll check it out Edit: it's beautiful

[deleted]

People hate Ghost for not sounding "like Metal vocals", and yet people love it when System of a Down doesn't sound "like Metal vocals". It's dumb gatekeepy BS. The musical style makes metal metal, or metalcore sound metal. It has nothing the fuck to do with every lyric needing to be with intense vocals or not. A7x doesn't always do scream vocals either and nobody would say they aren't Metal, ditto Avatar and Metallica. People would consider Black Sabbath the OG Metal and yet Ozzy doesn't do extreme vocals. You don't need to do intense extreme vocals for Metal to be Metal.

SansyBoy144

Dude heard clean vocals once and his day was ruined. Same energy as “clean vocals aren’t metal” Sometimes clean singing can be good in metal

[deleted]

Ozzy is a prime example

minimanelton

A lot of modern metal fans just hate clean singing and think it’s not metal. They’re stupid for thinking this

Oopsiedaisyshit

Metal music fans are often insufferable because they base their whole identity around music. And for some reason they judge you on how heavy music you listen to. : Dimmu borgir? Pffft that shit is for babies I listen to assshitfart it's way heavier thus better music. 🙄

nisenobks

I don't know anyone like that, my friends and I are all pretty chill about music tastes. Maybe that's an older generation thing? idk.

This_Fat_Cunt

Which is crazy because they wouldn’t say that Maiden, Priest or Dio aren’t Metal

sodomatron

Hella true system of down cryin rn

flappyheck2

tbf it’s not specifically clean vocals, but vocals that are overly processed. Opeth would be the former and Motionless in White would be the latter, for example. Personally I don’t like processed vocals because they often feel out of place and not as interesting compared to the rest of the song they’re in, but hats off to those who enjoy them

DDWildflower

There's plenty of cringe thrash vocals around too.

Perunakeisari_69

Oh no, how sad the lead singer can actually sing and not just scream and growl, how horrible /s Seriosly, some people are so fixated into only one thing being good that they never give anything else a chance. I really enjoy variety in the songs I listen, so its really nice to have a heavier verse and a more melodic chorus

Venombullet666

Countless Metal vocalists can do cleans or aggressive vocals interchangeably and sound great either way, that was never up for debate, the kind of whiny/Pop-Punk vocals that the meme describes ruins it all pretty much every time

Perunakeisari_69

Yeah but all of metalcore and nu metal definently dont have whiny choruses, only like a few select bands do. The guy who made the meme is a nasty elitist

[deleted]

Metal fans are more obnoxious than swifties

flappyheck2

at least swifties dont eat their own

[deleted]

I love it when the singer can do both, it shows flexibility in vocal talent. I would argue that a good Metal singer should be able to do both.

[deleted]

You mean like Electric Callboy

WholePomegranate7108

Fuck ya Electric Callboy!!!

devilinblue22

Me and a couple buddies have a watchtogether room called hypa hypa that has the song hypa hypa 20 times in a row. Atd always a little shock when we're in the middle of a mission or something and it stops.

Lord-Goonerius

I think this is precisely what makes metalcore so awesome. Slipknot too, songs such as Nero Forte are outstanding (if soft vocals is what's meant by "whiny pop punk vocals")

WazzzupBwwwaaah

That’s *exactly,* why I don’t like Metalcore.

Feduzin

buahh metal cant have clean vocals buaaah the only real metal is the one i listen

King_Krong

They’re literally complaining about a song having a vocal melody lol. Like dude, just go listen to a recording of a lawn mower for an hour if you have an issue with melodic vocal progression.

ddrub_the_only_real

Linkin park kinda but apart from that not i guess

[deleted]

Neither-Maximum-8514

They’re not a failed band hybrid theory and meteora are 2 of many albums that gave nu metal life and their unique sound inspired many bands you see today and that’s what is keeping nu metal alive

Chef_Boy_R_Deez

Guess I missed the original smooth brained comment yall were replying to but to add on to your sentiment… I personally have never even liked LP. Buuuut to say they’re a failed band is asinine. Idk if the jackass who said it knows this but one of their early albums (I believe Hybrid) is recorded in like the top three selling albums of all time. Not in relation to the rest of their discography, the rock genre, or the 2000’s… but top three of ALL MUSIC- *EVER*

YoLamoNacho

Where the hell did you read that😂😂 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums

Chef_Boy_R_Deez

Technically Finn McKenty read it. It’s in one of his recent videos. You’d have to ask him lol. Like I said I’ve never cared for the band so I don’t particularly care if it’s not entirely accurate. Maybe compare your sources with his and see which is more credible. 🤷‍♂️

WazzzupBwwwaaah

It has sold over 10M Copies, Worldwide.

YoLamoNacho

Just counted, hybrid theory is the 43rd best selling album of all time. Still impressive but nowhere near what you’re claiming lol

this_is_Blain3

plus the numerous boundary pushing albums after that. A Thousand Suns is one of the best albums ever made, period

Snickersnook

Linkin Park definitely is not nu metal but in no way do they not express struggle, anger or brokeness. I think they actually potray negative emotions very well, Chester really had a talent for that. EDIT: Honestly, after some thinking, yeah, they're nu metal. Out of the big nu metal bands, I'd argue theyre the most nu metal. Slipknot only had ST with nu influenfes, Korn has nu influences and idek how system is classified as a nu band. But personally, I think that Linkin Park are the most nu metal band of them all.

[deleted]

Hybrid Theory, and Meteora were nu metal albums. Hybrid Theory blasted nu metal into mainstream music.

[deleted]

Linkin park is definitionally nu metal and absolutely express anger and brokenness. How the fuck this got upvoted is beyond me. Have you only listened to one more light?

SubterraneanWaste

Maybe i havent given them enough chances. Or i dislike his voice, im not sure. I could be wrong. Still, i prefer the more chunky, raw, less refined music of the 90s-2000s imo

DisturbedPoltergeist

I like clean vocals! It highlights a contrast well and a good break between screaming :)

TruffelTroll666

I like that. Understandable lyrics? Actual melodies?

Fr0stybit3s

I like bands with clean singers. Linkin Park, Slipknot, Hollywood Undead... the choruses are a nice "break" from the verses

[deleted]

i might not fully understand but isn't that present in psychosocial?

haikusbot

oh my fucking god

The_Conqueror_82201

....no.

RandomPerson12191

Literally the first song that came to mind. I don't mind the vocals, but they are sometimes a bit... whiny. emoish.

Shirairyu69

Kind of yes

Lordpotato305

I think that is what OOP was taking about

Gloomy-Visit01

I know metal and rock mostly focused on the sound and instrument often they dont realize that the singers voice just gives the vibe the song needs. Metal and rock fans need to learn how to appriciate good clean vocals

kanotyrant6

Papa roach enters the chat

josemoirinho

One of my favorite cleans is from Me Inside lol And lately Corey's Formula has been growling verses and clean choruses, as clean choruses help your vocal chords to recover before the next set of growling, while it also gives the audience a chance to rest a bit between moshing.

KingKuckKiller666420

Nu with Whitney pop punk vocals??? Sign me the fuck up

saikomantisu

Attack attack

Mmmcheez

I have personally never seen nu-metal band that sticks specifically to pop punk vocals.

nvrfndme

when you grow up you will understand

pepdw

I try to be open to new music, but fuck me I hate pop punk vocals

CursedSnowman5000

Is that not one of the defining traits of nu metal?

WazzzupBwwwaaah

Not “Nü-Metal”, per say… But, “Emo/Screamo/Metalcore/Post-Hardcore” it is, definitely…

Juniberserker

Nu metal barely has that xD and besides, the metal core bands I listen to are mostly BMTH n GHØSTKID, which lead singers have pretty deep singing voices.

piedude67e

Love pop punk. Best genre imo. Then it's metal and all it's subgenres for me.

tacotrain333

Wait and bleed / my plague as exemple

batm123

I hate the vocals too, i don't mind clean singing, but i can't stand those whiney ass vocals

guitarfanatic_1

Hating on other peoples music isnt a flex why do people have to be like this

SkeletonCircus

Metal elitists and metalheads in general are often obsessed with negativity

SpeedBlazer99

Bitch POP PUNK FUCKING ROCKS MGK, The Offspring, Green Day, Blink-182, Sum 41, All American Rejects, My Chemical Romance, Simple Plan, Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, Yellowcard, Good Charlotte, New Found Glory, Avril Levigne, Paramore etc One of the best genres EVER

Joey_The_Bean_14

They can only like music like that one song that sounds like wiggling sheet metal

devilwearspuma

i love all of these things

user_breathless

I’m just gonna mention Sleep Token here

Bright-Arugula-6638

L opinion

VL37

Anyone listen to Counterparts? I really enjoyed their clean vocals on their late album A Eulogy For Those Still Here.

Offtherailspcast

So... Slipknots last 4 albums?

SkeletonCircus

These people don’t know shit. They just group every genre they don’t like together. Closest I can think of to “nu metal with pop punk vocals” are some Papa Roach and Zebrahead songs. Granted, maybe I’m biased cause I love “whiny pop punk” music

Comfortable_Salt_758

Basically never.

BlackT26

Sooooo you've never heard Overkill or Megadeth then?😂😂😂thrash elitists at it again...I love thrash and dislike most Nu Metal, but don't pretend like 80s thrash singers had the manliest voices in history

Informal_Eye_8664

Literally any of the choruses past Iowa there a a handful of exceptions not counting instrumentals

WalrusFromTheWest

You can’t listen to the singing of Chester Bennington and think this way with a straight face. Impossible.

GooseMay0

Limp Bizkit

FortuneHeart

“Thrash is king” insert Pantera

NothingHappensInLife

i fek like this is reference to songs like idiosyncrasy by Korn

Jayswave75

...and also megadeth...lol

iannrd21

all those hard-ass headbangers don't know shit about nu metal and insists in talking this type of BS, i just can't understand
