Having only 2 sides should lead to reduced juice, other things being equal. My guess would be because it is more of a recreational market than some others, meaning: *customers tend not to be price sensitive * books are unable to hedge with Asian/wholesale books or copy their prices

The last part is crucial. There really isn't any sharp books doing much, so the euro books have to actually make some markets. And they're quite inept at it.
