SOLIDWORKS for Makers is currently $48 a year and doesn't require you to be a student, but it's also based on 3DEXPERIENCE and doesn't have many of the add-ins that the student version does. Files you make with it also can't be opened using commercial/student versions of SOLIDWORKS, so that's a bit of a limitation too. I'm not familiar with the Titans of CNC subscription, but that might be better if you can make it work.

>Files you make with it also can't be opened using commercial/student versions of SOLIDWORKS Are you sure about that? I know that student version files cannot be opened in Makers or any other version, but didn't know reverse was also not possible.

Unfortunately I'm very sure, I recently did a video on the Maker version and managed to "convert" the only copy of one of my project files, and now I can't convert it back to commercial. The Maker version can open Commercial/Student files, but not vice versa. It just fails outright. So if you open/create something with Maker and then save it, you're out of luck. You can still save out to STEP, IGES, Parasolid etc. but of course you'll lose your feature history so that's a bummer too, but you can still get stuff manufactured with the Maker version in that way.

NotVainest

Don't you need a school email to get a student license?

Bagelsarenakeddonuts

I bought my yearly education desktop version directly from solidworks / cleverbridge about a month ago. It was less than 100CAD on sale, but I think the full price was well under 200CAD.

Cry_Quick

Student version when you are not a student?

Bagelsarenakeddonuts

Yes. Remember that solidworks has all sorts of partnerships with groups to allow non commercial use, look at the hobby aircraft group as an example.

Cry_Quick

Oh, alright. So you bought student version when not a student? It's for my studies but not enrolled in any school.

Bagelsarenakeddonuts

Correct. I use it for learning and hobby use, so I’m not using it commercially.

Cry_Quick

Same, bought it! Thanks!

You can download solidworks community edition for $100 per year.

Email the engineering student society at your local uni ask them if any of their student design teams like FSAE have left over solid works licenses, boom free license.
