I think i should start watermarking Michelangelo into all my current photos as tribute.

Mine wasn’t quite this cool but was absolutely this vintage!!

Artbylieve

A nice solid 4 mega pixels!

ApaHualpa

I had / have the A70, with 3.2 Mpx

LonelyNeuron

Same here, I'm old enough to have started with film, but the Powershot A80 was the first digital camera I got to use (also as a family camera). I actually recently went through some of the photos I took with it as a kid and the quality is surprisingly decent for such an old 4mpx camera.

naamahstrands

Bit of an odd bird. 1967, Mamiya Sekor 528TL, SLR with a Copal leaf shutter, 48mm f/2.8 fixed lens. Manual or shutter-priority exposure only. Man, I took some bad pictures with that thing. I had it for two years then bought a Nikon F Photomic TN that I shot for \~20 years. Then a succession of Nikon Fs and a D200 before switching to Sony in 2012. Now an a6000 and a6700. https://preview.redd.it/ue2r6oxegxoc1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=541a800b399b7ac1733f61113468fa26d73edc14

frequentpooper

Loved my D200. I just pulled it out, charged up the batteries, and shot some pics around the house with it. Still a nice camera.

Artbylieve

Love that!

hoggytime613

My first camera is still my current film camera, my Pentax K1000. My first digital camera was the Sony Mavica FD. Bought new when it came out, and still works! Floppy disks and 640x480 resolution 🤣 My current digital camera is the Sony A7iii https://preview.redd.it/lvzbk4eg7xoc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a35544d711c64979fa6faed285b6dbff53c74e50

Lupimei

I Will buy that camera one day or another. I love the idea to save on floppy disk

joystickd

Loved the K1000! Learnt to shoot manually on one at school. So much fun that was, mainly because I didn't have to pay for the film and processing 😀

SnarkyMara

First camera was a Pentax K1000 Edit: no that’s the second. The first was a Brownie when I was a young kid.

Samsung tablet from 2016 lol

Artbylieve

Flattest camera ever haha

AmericanExpat76

My first camera was a 35mm film camera, nothing fancy, cant even remember the brand. Currently rocking an a7iv, and sometimes an a6500

martijndtzl

My first camera was the Sony DSC-F707… really loved that camera!!

maroonalberich27

Yeah, I started with the f717 myself (if I only count digital). Sometimes I still find myself looking over eBay wondering if I should get a "new" one. Since then, it was a Samsung NV40, Sony a100, a68, and now the a7r4.

martijndtzl

Nice!! When I was writing this, I was thinking the same thing! I have a a7iv. The R version must be magical

maroonalberich27

For me, definitely! I'm a serious hobbyist, and can't imagine what would cause me to need an upgrade anytime soon, short or a meteorite smacking the camera out of my hands. Part of me wishes I needed an upgrade, just because it would mean that I've grown so much as a photographer that something as advanced as the a7r4 was holding me back. Then I think of what Sudek or Doisneau was able to achieve with their equipment and realize that equipment is something I shouldn't complain about, probably ever.

not_a_gay_stereotype

My camera history: - Crayola mini - Sony dsc-t90 - Sony rx100 - Panasonic zs100 - used A5000 I'm hoping to replace the A5000 with either a 6X00 or a new compact, maybe an RX1000 6 or an old RX1

This was before phones had decent cameras. I used it for everyday/travel snapshots and concert videos, but also took my first picture of the moon (by aiming it through a pair of binoculars) and even recorded video of the 2017 total solar eclipse. I have multiple A6x00 series bodies now and the Tamron 18-300mm as my everyday lens. Sigma C 150-600mm and 1.4x TC (when needed) for moon shots. But I do miss that pack-of-cards-sized little Canon. I still have it, but the batteries are toast.

Sipix StyleCam Deluxe I got for Christmas as a kid. Sadly, it seems to be broken; it powers on and responds but the flash doesn't fire and the images it produces are garbled. It was a piece of junk even for the time, but it was cheap, and could in theory take photos, videos, and even be used as a webcam. I think even as a kid, though, I got frustrated by its lack of a preview screen, small storage capacity, and voracious appetite for batteries. To add insult to injury, if the batteries died, you lost your pictures. In high school I started shooting film; it was a great time for that because film cameras were considered worthless but film and developing were still readily available. Among the film cameras that were gifted to me were a Minolta Alpha 7 with a few very nice lenses. Once I got my first smartphone that mostly took over, especially since I kind of lost interest in photography for a while. Much later, I found those A-mount lenses in a closet, started looking for a digital body to use them on and picked up an A580 on eBay. I picked up some more A-mount glass, eventually realized I wanted something smaller, settled on E-mount in part because I could adapt those old lenses easily, and bought a used A6000. Then I started buying native E-mount lenses and upgraded to an A6700. Now I'm eyeing up the FE 200-600...

Artbylieve

Pentax K-1000, secondhand. So much fun.

Nikon D3000, 3100 or 3200, one of them, can't remember which. Nikon D7000 or 7100, can't remember which it was. Nikon D7500, this wasn't any better than that older D7xxx Sony A7IV

My camera setup is: Sony a350 Sony a900 Sony a7 iii

Wow, blast from the past! My first camera was that very same Samsung. Got a Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K nowadays.

Artbylieve

Yay, old Samsung buddies haha

• Sony Cybershot (don't remember the model) • Panasonic Lumix FZ-82 • Sony a6400 They all served and still serve my very well!!

superkure

Canon PowerShot S2 IS :D 5 megapixel beast with 12x zoom. I had no idea about focal range.

Pleasant-Plane-6340

As a kid I had a film disc camera ([https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disc\_film](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disc_film)) then this was my first digital https://preview.redd.it/c38hfb826xoc1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=2c6e21f115edb5951199016d653650fd899fd6d9

1.3 mega pixels is wild haha

Pleasant-Plane-6340

My mum had an even older one at the time, a Sony, which saved images (and I think short video clips) to a floppy disc! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Mavica

Futurum_

Nikon D5600! Had it for a few years before buying a used Sony A7RIV.

tonyyu369

It getting bigger

Artbylieve

Yeah, it grew up a bit😅

tonyyu369

As technology advancing, I expect the equipment will get smaller. Somehow I start everything with a phone and then APS-C and full frame now. And then from a pancake sized lens to a better and larger one. Mine equipment gained a lot of weight too.

Artbylieve

At some point I went from my hefty a77 to a much lighter nex model but I just couldn't get the same quality pictures from it so yeah, now big is back😅

tonyyu369

It is very easy to get addicted to the photo quality

kgkuntryluvr

Sony DSC-H300, Sony A55, Sony A1

MAD_MrT

My first official camera that I bought with my own money was a canon rebel t6 but the first camera I ever used and started learning photography on was one of those old af kodak film cameras from like the 90s or something

Artbylieve

Cool! Now that I'm thinking about it, I guess the first camera I used were those kodak disposables...pictures were never great but loved the experience!

It was a Vivitar point and shoot from 2003 I think? I don’t own it anymore.

OneFinePotato

Samsung ES25/Sony A7iii

thenormaluser35

Some old Canon camera with 4x zoom and few megapixels, a compact with few settings. Then came the TZ80 I have now, in the summer I'll get either an A6100 or an A6700.

Artbylieve

Exciting!!!

AlanOverson

Nikon d3000 —> canon t7i —> a7iii (waiting for its arrival)

Artbylieve

Excitingggg! Have fun with the a7iii!

AlanOverson

Returning and getting the a7iv lol. I crunched some numbers and decided the extra $600 is well worth it over the a7iii. Unless there’s other suggestions!? I didn’t mind my canon at all but there are no third party lenses worth a damn for the r series. And those canon lenses, although phenomenal, are damn pricey! Just hate being limited to native lenses

Artbylieve

I'm loving the a7iv! For me the drawback of the iii was the not so flippable screen which I use a lot.

AlanOverson

See for me, it was the AF, eye tracking, sensor improvement, video improvement etc. the a7iv perfected everything they missed with the a7iii. I still have yet to find a better all around camera than the a7iv that doesn’t absolutely drain the bank account

Life_Mathematician14

got myself ZV E10L as first camera last year. still having good times with it :)

[deleted]

A kodak digital point and shoot , then a sony cyber shot and now a a7c

Designer_Willingness

nice, 24-105 lives on my camera. Great all round lens to film sports

My first real camera was a Minolta X-700. Switched to Nikon for a long time after that and Sony now.

Savage_JaviBear

I started with a Minolta XG1 that I got in the early 2000's as a supple young lad, and for a steal too. I think I paid 40 bucks and it came with a 50mm lens that started my love of photography and my constant need to buy 50mm lenses. Edit: Forgot to add current setup which is a Sony a7iii and a Fuji Xt5.

friendlyimposter

My first camera was an analog camex 35 fmd i bought when i was like 10 years old in the early 1990s. I love those pictures from my childhood it took and i still remember exactly how it was to buy it all alone with my saved money in a photo shop and the guy was really nice even though i was a kid https://preview.redd.it/xq465xaq1yoc1.jpeg?width=400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d16617b9b7d5e437a2bcc44616692d30c9f1f305 I then had cheap cameras like canon ixus or first mobile phones with camera. Theres a biographic lack of pictures between age 16 and 24 or so because i never had them with me. Something that wouldn't happen to todays teenagers 🤳🏻 It took until 2016 i bought my first real camera sony alpha5100. Pretty quickly it turned out to be my new hobby and last year i added my sony alpha A7C. Have not sold my Apsc yet... I always think to keep it for times i need a camera that does not hurt too much if it gets damaged or stolen.

Artbylieve

Always good to have a backup! Thanks for sharing!

echo_maker_returned

I've got into photography with my phone camera. I wasn't sure about buying a camera but I took the risk and got myself a Sony ZV-E10. Since than I've been using it non-stop.

Call-Me-Ronny

For me it was my mom’s old Nikon D70 with a 17-70mm lens if I remember correctly. After that I’ve been around town a bit. Canon Rebel something (for work) > Canon PowerShot G12 > Nikon D7000 > Fuji X-T20 > Canon M100 > Sony A7 > Sony A6400

Spinal2000

My first one was a Minolta Riva zoom 90c. Was really young and loved it, but didn't take too many pictures. Then I took a long break, got into videography in 2005 and back to photos in 2014.

joystickd

First camera was some toy Kodak film thing my mum got me in the mid 80s. My first manual camera I owned was a Nikon D3000 in 2010. Current Sony camera is an A7R IV I Shoot with alongside my Nikons.

Sockratte

Not even a joke - my first camera was the game boy camera. First SLR: Canon EOS 300 (Rebel 2000) First DSLR: Nikon D80 Today: Sony Alpha 7R V

Artbylieve

I wasn't aware game boys came with cameras but you're not the only one who said it!

Sockratte

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Camera?wprov=sfla1 it was basically a game cardridge with a shitty b/w camera attached. I still have it in my "museum" next to an old kodak brownie and other classics like the canon ae-1. It still works but mainly serves as a conversation starter with customers. Not the piece of equipment that started my photography career though 😀

ObfuscatedJay

Pentax ME Super.

Captlard

First digital and my last camera before a new Sony this month was a Canon 300D / Digital Rebel. Prior I had a film Canon Sure shot A1, so I could kayak & surf and take pictures.

heikyo86

Maaaan, I had this slick little waterproof waterproof Olympus with a 6mp sensor. Had a whole deployment of pictures on it when it got stolen in dry dock :/ I ordered an A7Riii (41mo) today, should be here by the end of the week!

Artbylieve

Excitingggg!

OnePinkPotato

I started with the Sony a6000

First cameras were film cameras 30 years ago. I don’t even remember them.

FrostyNinja422

Yeah it was a pain to have to carry spare AA batteries if I wanted to shoot for more than 10 minutes 😅

ryanc483

I went to South Africa and did all my photography on a PSVita

SocksIsHere

My first camera i used for proper photography was the Fujifilm HS20 EXR, I still have it. My Current Setup is the Sony A6000 with the 18-105 F4 Lens on it. My fun EDC setup is an Olympus E-PL3, Its always in my pocket. its cheap enough that I don't have to care about it and light enough that I don't notice it, the photos from that thing are interesting. My next setup is going to either be Full frame Sony or a newer Olympus/OM System setup, I am really torn on what to get!

Artbylieve

Nice setup! You know what people on this thread will tell you which to get 😉

The a58. It was in possession within my family for 10 years. I still have but don't have any use case for it. https://preview.redd.it/ieuoea9wf7pc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f1daf930ef5f2f0568b059123f1a74db90853bd

Starting in 2005: Nikon D50 > Nikon D300 (x2) > Nikon D800 (x2) > Nikon D750 (x2) > Sony a7III > Fujifilm X-T30 > Fujifilm X-T5 > Sony a7IV (x2)

Artbylieve

You've had multiple cameras twice? Like at the same time or one after another?

aarondigruccio

Dual-wielding in those cases, so two at a time.

My first camera dedicated camera was GoPro 6, then I upgraded to the Sony A1

Leica IIIF. Was taking high school photoclass about 1965 and my step-grandfather gave it to me. In 1968 or so I bought a Minolta SRT101. In 1973 I sold the Leica for $100 to buy a mail-order dissecting microscope to study insects in college. The scope was garbage. I actually threw it away. I still have the SRT101. I had a lot of lenses for it and I now use them on my Sony A7III. The Leica was dated in 1968. It had a tinyl viewfinder. The Minolta was much easier to get pictures. I don't miss the Leica except to put on a shelf with my other old cameras.

Oops! I forgot about this camera. 1958. https://preview.redd.it/pzzxz32o9zoc1.jpeg?width=1972&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5155c20ecf2490d2e48a76f97612583e34a39a67

Boisson5

Nikon D3400, mainly used with the 35mm 1.8, and less often the 18-55mm kit lens

Sixty years ago my dad gave me this camera. I’m still shooting . . . smartphone, full frame sensor cameras, one inch sensor. Whatever is nearby . . . Dad knew what he was doing;-) https://preview.redd.it/sjq2cfg2fzoc1.jpeg?width=908&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=42f6a3911cd8ab31cbad295c4cf7efcc3ae8e3af

They were always way over exposed or way to dark. It also played mp3s but I never used to for that. Took all my best MySpace emo girl photos on this.

moinotgd

dont know what name. kodak camera with film roll in 1990.

philandher96

My first camera was a Minolta 35mm SLR (film). First dSLR was a Canon Rebel Xt. Now I have an a7ii that doesn’t get as much use as it probably should.

Mate did almost the exact same thing; started with whatever digishot my parents had; then my first real camera was a A300, which was supposed to fit my Dad’s Minolta lenses. Then, a big upgrade to the a65, which I LOVED. 10fps, etc. Upgraded to a first good lens. Then finally, made the jump to a A7rii, which I still use. Incredible camera. My only worry is it breaking. I’ve put it through hell, so I’d love to upgrade at some point just so all the value in the camera isn’t gone before I sell it.

ButtIsItArt

first camera: Fujifilm Finepix S5100, lil 4mp camera with a postage stamp sized monitor. recently picked up another one as I was struck with a wave of nostalgia. https://preview.redd.it/irkqjmua33pc1.jpeg?width=1180&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d1ff15d38868df2dbcf100a484b1ff595937527 current camera: Sony A6000

Your first camera is not even Sony. I don’t think you are qualified enough to be a member here seriously. My first DC is a Sony 2.8 megapixel camera with 16mb memory stick

Sam_Lachy

its not like the qualification yo be here is to be a loyal sony user, people change, plus he's using a sony a7iv as his current. What more do u need

rand0m_task

I think dude was just being cheeky

[deleted]

His devotion, his unchallenged loyalty to Sony

Artbylieve

First camera was gifted to me, so didn't really have a choice :) but now a Sony girl through and through!

[deleted]

Now I proclaim you a certified member here.

naamahstrands

Sony wasn't even going to be in the camera business till the Mavica came out 14 years (1981) after I bought my first camera.
