More often than not, overdetailed splash arts tend to cause the actual pixel sprite to suffer when it tries to keep up with the level of detail. Most of the skin sprites these days just look messy, to me at least.
i really do like the look of all the new splash art, but the sprites are what got me into the game originally. hot take but sprites > splash art any day. so the meme should be flipped lol

Soul knight characters can change genders with their skin. This is not only with Alchem, Characters like Druid and Vampire also have this.

They're just PNG files that don't affect the gameplay
The original sprites were what sold the game.. i do rather pay up a yearly fees to play the game with out this fan service
