I liked it tbh, my only wish was that they spent a little bit more time with Peter in the black suit. Like I wish we could’ve seen his dynamic with the people around him while secretly having the suit. I feel like it was rushed a bit, but I enjoyed the ultimate interpretation, still prefer the OG version

lr031099

I think that’s the one nitpick I have with the Ultimate Spider-Man comics. I feel like pacing is too fast and I wished Venom was saved for much later along with having Peter with the Symbiote much longer.

JhayMarr

Agreed, good series but some arcs were either really fleshed out, or it’d be quickly gone over in order to get to the next plot. You can tell which stories/arcs Bendis had more passion over lol

lr031099

Not my idea but it would’ve been cool to see Peter in the Symbiote until he ends up fighting the Ultimate Six (the 1610 version of the Sinister Six). He could’ve almost kill Norman until he’s stopped the Ultimate Avengers (which is just called “the Ultimates”) and that’s when he gets the Symbiote off of him.

JhayMarr

That idea is good, man what a missed opportunity. Only concern is if the Ultimates got involved you could argue that the symbiotic would’ve potentially been contained and not reached Eddie if the ultimates had to remove it off of Peter in a big climactic fight. Idk I could be wrong but that’s just would assume would happen, I would’ve still liked to see something like that go down. Maybe have Peter turn into a form of venom kinda like when he got the symbiotic and almost ate a man lmaoo

lr031099

I suggested the whole Ultimates thing because iirc I think they did get involved once during Peter and Eddie’s last fight. Peter got the Symbiote again because there were still parts of it inside of Peter and the Symbiote wanted it back but then Thor got it removed by using lighting strike or something. Although you could do without that which I’m totally fine with. I think Eddie somehow still had the Symbiote after that or maybe he somehow got it back in another story arc but I don’t remember. Regarding Eddie though, I might get some hate for this, but I would actually have Harry be the host of Venom instead of Eddie like in the Insomniac games. The reason for this is because Eddie and Harry are similar characters in the ultimate universe with them being best friends/childhood friends and both eventually getting powers (Eddie as Venom and Harry as Hobgoblin) so I guess I would sort of combine the two characters by making Harry Venom instead. Plus I think it would make for an interesting parallel where Peter got his powers thanks to Norman and his experiments on the Oscorp Engineered Spiders while Harry got his powers thanks to the Symbiote, which was created by Peter’s father Richard Parker.

chataclysm

I don't like the beady eyes from that cover, but that never really showed up in the actual comic so it's fine. The mess of teeth and goo is such a cool aesthetic choice though.

Diligent-Boss-9392

The origin is fine but I hate the design, mainly because Venom being a generic giant goo monster has seeped into most media now.

lr031099

I kinda agree on the design. Also, while it wouldn’t really make sense given how Eddie used a spare Symbiote (Peter destroying the one he wore), I kinda wished we got the white spider-symbol.

Vadim0usique

I am. More menacing, more realistic, more dramatic and related to Peter. Not just a random shit from space, you know.

Based-Prime

Why does Venom look like that in the first image…

Sparkwriter1

It's a fuse of Venom and the Carnage symbiote of that Earth

UpliftinglyStrong

What the genuine FUCK is that first image?

MrStresser

Eddie absorbed the carnage symbiote and combined it with the dormant symbiote cells in his body, turning him into on himself.

MrStresser

This version of Venom usually gets a bad rap because of Eddie's character, but I like this take on his origin. It's different and sets itself from the alien costume. It's actually parasitic and gives Peter a reason to not wear it, the design is awesome and menacing, and it had a lot of untapped potential. It's too bad Bendis wasn't interested in the character enough to follow through with some plotline set ups, would have loved a Symbiote World War arc. Ultimate carnage can get back in the incubator, that storyline was shit. (still cool design tho)

lr031099

I like it and I think it gets way more hate than it deserves. Kinda wished he had the Spider-Symbol though but I do like the purple shading. I kinda prefer the alien origin because it makes Venom feel more unique but at the same time, I do like how it was Peter’s father who created it. Ideally, I would’ve liked to seen an origin story that combines the two where it’s still an alien but it was discovered and experimented on by Peter’s dad and Eddie’s dad.

2EM18KKC01

The new Insomniac game dabbles a little bit in that direction.

lr031099

If you’re referring to Norman and Conners being the ones who discovered it, then yeah, I guess they did something similar. Having Peter’s dad involved would’ve been interesting as well but he was already a a spy in the insomniac universe like his 616 counterpart.

Awest66

I really liked it too. It may lose some of the lore from the mainstream comics to portray him this way, but it's also a much more streamlined version of the story that makes it a lot more personal between Peter and Eddie.

lr031099

I agree in the more personal connection between Peter and Eddie and I also like that their dads created the Symbiote even if I like the alien origin a bit more.

Shadow-SJG

The symbiote has no personality though

Eugene_Dav

In Insomniac’s game they largely adapted venom arc from Ultimate

MagicJoshByGosh

It was still an alien, though, which is one aspect of the origin that I wasn’t a huge fan of. I believe that at least Spidey’s Big Three should be connected to him personally in some way, but it’s usually only Goblin that is connected. I would love it if Insomniac’s Doc Ock and Ultimate Venom were the traditional backstories for the characters. Doc Ock is Peter’s boss and personal hero, and Venom was an experiment worked on by his father.

lr031099

I kinda like the alien origin because it makes Venom stand out a bit more from the other antagonists but I do like the connection the Symbiote has with Peter’s father. Honestly the only change I would make for Ultimate Venom would probably be to have Harry as the host instead like in the Insomniac game. Not because I hate Eddie or anything but they’re both very similar characters in that they were Peter’s best friend/childhood friends and I think it would make for an interesting parallel where Peter got his powers from Norman’s Oscorp engineered spider while Harry has the Symbiote, which was a creation of Peter’s dad.

lr031099

Funny enough I honestly thought the Symbiote was going to be man made because in the post credits scene of the first game, the Symbiote looks like black webs as if it was created by either using Peter’s DNA or the venoms of the Oscorp Engineered Spiders like the one that bit Miles.

MattadorGuitar

To be fair, the first half of Ultimate’s comic covers bear little to no resemblance of the actual issue it is covering. I LOVED ultimate, but one of my really tiny complaints is some of the villain redesigns. Venom’s art was good, but not the best. I didn’t care for Green Goblin or Hobgoblin’s new design either, but I liked their stories. I didn’t like Doc Ock’s early design where his arms are on his stomach either. Vulture looked cool, though.

MimeMike

You can ask this about pretty much anything Ultimate and get the same answer everytime. It's Ultimate. Spidey fans, mainstream or not, are aware that Venom is an alien and that's the most popular version of his backstory. Changing that in an adaptation that's anything except Ultimate is a risking a lot of negative reactions from fans. You wouldn't make a 616 Peter adaptation have the Ultimate origin, would you?

MagicJoshByGosh

I mean, there’s such a thing as borrowing inspiration from more than one place. They kinda fused the Prime and Ultimate origins for Venom in the second Insomniac game. Molina’s Doc Ock design in *Spider-Man 2* was heavily based on the Ultimate version, but those movies are more based on the traditional version of the character. *The Amazing Spider-Man 2*, which is definitely based more on the Ultimate version of the character, adapts the original *The Night Gwen Stacy Died* storyline instead of the Ultimate version. It’s just that Venom has had the *same* origin in almost every single adaptation outside of the comics, and I kinda want something different for once.

NoMistake8095

Naw. Although I’m not a big fan of it being some sort of thing instead of an alien

FadeToBlackSun

Personally, I hated it. Venom was unique in the Spider-Man mythos as being an alien, not to mention his sentience was a great reveal. The character had a lot of depth to it because it was taken by its home by Peter to a place it didn't understand, it was rejected as soon as he found it was alive. It was alone on a strange world and the only being it could find with anything in common with it was someone else who felt screwed over by Peter Parker. In the Ultimate Universe, that sympathetic back story is done away with. Eddie is shown to be a weedy scumbag, sociopath from go, and the Venom symbiote is essentially evil because of a flaw in its program. Bendis hated Venom (the intro to the third USM HC has him say "Venom sucks") and his solution was to basically take away everything that worked about the character. Hell, he even made "the black suit" purple.

The_Albino_Jackal

The purple looks good bro. It’s no different to when they make venom blue. I don’t see people complaining that ps1 venom is fully blue (not black with blue highlights)

MrStresser

I have to agree, Bendis did butcher this character, even after setting up what could have been an awesome plotline that would involve a lot of characters. Also, those are purple \*highlights\* and they go hard.
