I’m a huge fan of the first mission letting you fight and lose against the main boss. You learn some of his moves, and you learn how outmatched you are. It sets the goal to become good enough to beat them. It sets the tone for your encounters moving forward. It’s just a fun thing to do. InFamous 2 did it best imo. Edit: even if you WIN it can still be epic. God of War did this really well with Bauldr and Thor.

Designer-Chemical-95

Ghost of Tsushima did that too.

Ok_Committee_1187

And Metal Gear Rising, but not very first boss

IHave3KidsInMyFridge

And Sekiro

issa_cross

Both Sucker Punch games. I reallllly wanna see what they do next

gerrittd

I still just want another inFamous 😭

meme_abstinent

Also made by Sucker Punch that’s kinda interesting

RandoDude124

God, I loved that game

akalegos

sekiro

-PineapplePancakes-

Devil May Cry 5 also does this

PCN24454

The problem is that it makes it plot armor that the hero survives.

meme_abstinent

If written poorly, yeah. In Miles Morales, Peter didn’t survive his fight with Rhino because of plot armor, they wrote that encounter to have Miles intervene. It wouldn’t be plot armor to separate the playable character and boss, distract the boss, have the boss spare the character to cause more personal pain. Shoot maybe the fight ends with Goblin finding out Peter is Spider-Man and that mind fuck makes hesitate long enough to allow Peter to escape. That would also set the personal stakes high.

Zealos57

Judging by how paranoid Norman was getting, especially at the end, I don't see why he wouldn't start becoming Green Goblin near the beginning.

westcoastqb

Maybe start with the green goblin and have Peter find out he's Norman much later

CornerNearby6802

We’ll probably have another villain as main threat for like 80% of the game and then Norman will become the final villain of the third act, like they did in the first game (Li and then Octopus) and the second (Kraven and then Venom)

Odd-Health-7884

Who do you think could be the villain for the first half of the game? I was thinking maybe Chameleon but he could probably be in dlc for the 2nd game.

CornerNearby6802

Carnage, he’s literally the only big villain that can still be a serious and credible threat to this spider-man, except Norman and maybe Morbius (if they ever want to introduce him). Plus Carnage is a fan favourite, so i expect a big role for him

DXbreakitdown

This is what I thought as well but the speculation is that Carnage will be DLC for SM2. Apparently he was technically already in the game, I was semi paying attention when his name was dropped I didn’t realize it was an alias for the fire guy until later. The symbiote was 100% in the game, shown and called out by name. I think a Maximum Carnage DLC would probably be better than a supporting part in a whole game.

CornerNearby6802

Idk carnage as a dlc villain seems a waste. Has this dlc been confirmed by someone reliable? or are they just rumors? because it seems late to me to announce a dlc now, the only information I've found are about beetle, I don't know seems unlikely to me at this point

Princess_Spectre

Carnage doesn’t have the emotional story potential of the other villains, his just a deranged killer. A DLC is perfect for him, or he could be the antagonist for Venom because he works as a Venom antagonist way better than a Spider-Man antagonist

loonbandit

fr they’re massively over estimating how much people like or care about carnage

DXbreakitdown

This has not been confirmed or hinted at by anyone official. Just the prevailing thought, at least here, is that all the symbiote stuff is kept in one game. I gotta admit, Goblin, Carnage, and Ock would make for a hell of a game.

Dry_Weird_2690

The Insomniac leaks have shown there is no plan for any SM2 DLC. The leaks also show that Carnage will be the villain for the Venom game

alainbrave

The insomniac leaks CONFIRMED there is 3 dlc, carnage is the second one, and the last game update confirmed this since it's code contain the script of the first dlc.

alainbrave

First of all, Carnage will be used in dlc2 and in the Venom game (leaks). Furthermore, carnage is a ridiculous character that can't be taken seriously. He is stupid, violent, and bloodthirsty, that's all. There is nothing interesting to tell about carnage.

PCN24454

Being a lead-in isn’t a big role.

Due-Science3011

Nah, chameleon is a good villain but usually for early day spiderman. His abilities is just disguising so not much boss fight potential. He's probably gonna be Miles' main antagonist throughout the game, not Peter's. I think the first half antagonist would be Doc Ock or Jackal.

DuckyHornet

Big Wheel

RandoDude124

#Green Goblin all the way through

ErenYeager139

Beginning I he asked for the g-serum asap ,those people will say it unfinished it not ready it unstable it hasn't been tested yet ,before using it on Harry he will use it on himself turning him to the green goblin, doing some chaos at the beginning without knowing it at first but then he realizes it's him his new persona.

Eugene_Dav

Honestly, I can see them playing out the Ultimate scenario. Norman and Otto may be working together for most of the game, or they may be both working separately to destroy Peter. But in the end, Octavius's consciousness awakens and he saves Peter, and the Goblin kills him. I think Norman should have become the Goblin sometime during the events of the Venom game. Most likely, we will again have a post credit scene where Norman and Otto talk in prison. Well, perhaps they will show us how the Green Goblin undermines the raft and frees Octavius. Thus, at the beginning of the third game, Octavius operates underground.

discowithmyself

I hope the game starts out with miles getting blindsided by gobby and he basically toys with miles and makes him call in Peter for backup, and he opens a can of whoopass on them both, and he discovers Peter’s identity which is the only reason he stops short of killing them, then he periodically pops in to fuck with Peter’s life while he tries to figure out who gobby is. I also hope Peter has to see Otto for help defeating Norman once he discovers who he is.

TheUruvarin

This is actually an interesting one. Ock got enough build up for everything to feel like it went the way it should have. While Venom did feel a tad rushed. Ock also seamlessly fit in with the story, while the symbiote and Venom felt like they just added it in to the Kraven story. I think they need to make the Goblin relevant to the story of the first half for it to feel satisfying. Honestly I’d like it if the third game was all out Sinister Six after they escape prison and want to kill Peter, but all they have at first is Miles. Could have a moment of Miles being captured and Peter has to come back to help him. Have a side storyline of a series of murders that eventually tie to the S6 revealing the Green Goblin has been lurking in the shadows all this time and he freed the S6 then eventually you work out that it’s Norman. Now whether the S6 are five characters we’ve seen plus Norman or six characters we’ve seen and then Norman’s the final boss, is entirely a narrative choice. But I think with Cindy and also potentially Venom being leads in the game as well as Peter and Miles, you have a lot you can do with multiple villains to the point logically speaking you might have to have Harry die and Norman blaming Peter even though it was Norman’s fault. Have Cindy and Miles deal with the S6 and Peter take on the Goblin in the final act. That’s at least how I’d do it. I think narratively speaking it’d feel satisfying having Norman be important throughout the whole game and not just the final boss.

Ill-Face-4545

Who would the six be? Electro, vulture, scorpion, and shocker are dead as hell. Li is a good guy maybe? Mysterio is reformed. That leaves us with: Rhino, Doc Ock as solid choices then maybe Sandman and Lizard but i think it wouldn’t work

TheUruvarin

Characters in comic books come back from the dead all the time plus we didn’t see every death so we don’t know how they died so it could be feasible to survive. There’s those you mentioned, Carnage also, yes there’s the rumoured Venom game seemingly confirmed with leaks, but that doesn’t mean Cassidy won’t survive. Introductions of new villains. Chameleon was setup. Beetle is supposedly getting DLC, hell Venom could be a Sinister Six villain who we play as and eventually turns against them. Maybe even Kingpin who to my memory has never been in the S6, but it’s their own universe, they can do what they want.

Curious-Jello-9812

Rhino is dead

Ill-Face-4545

No? I’m almost certain he’s not. I could be wrong. Can you provide evidence please

Curious-Jello-9812

There is apparently a hidden room that is unavailable to get into in the game with his head and some artifacts of other villains in the room, you need to use a wall hack to get into it. Tho it's not that good of evidence but still, it's there

Ill-Face-4545

Oh right yeah i remember seeing that, its a good piece of evidence showing his death is possible but since its not in the “main” game world and is in a dev room instead id be more inclined to say it’s likely that he’s alive. But thanks for actually proving proof of your statement

Curious-Jello-9812

Yep, kind of a shitty move of theirs tbh, i would've wanted a concrete answer, or if they don't adress him, at least don't put him in a dev room, great game regardless, don't really get the hate. No need to thank me for proof, it's how a conversation is actually supposed to go, some people just forget that☺️

PCN24454

Ock was shoved at the end because he didn’t even do anything until Act 3.

lr031099

I would say have Green Goblin from the beginning and have Peter slowly find out that it’s Norman but we would already know who it is (kinda like the Raimi films). Not sure how it would work since it seems like Otto might play a big role in the 3rd game if the kid credit of the last game is any indication. Norman could start off as the classic Goblin (similar to the concept art here) but then slowly become more like the Ultimate Goblin as the final boss or if not that, maybe we could get Red Goblin as the final boss. If we do get a Venom spin off game, maybe the post credit scene could be Norman capturing the Carnage Symbiote. I think Ultimate Gobljn is more likely because I feel like they really went all out on the Symbiote with them doing an invasion but who knows

Ill-Face-4545

Goblin appears near the start of the game id say. His character has been set up across two games already.

MercerNov

I want him to become Goblin at the end of the first act. That way we don’t run the chance of a third act that runs to short again.

HelloImInza

I want the third game to feel like Norman's slow descent into madness, make the Goblin feel not just as a necessary third act villain but rather like Norman's lowest point I want to see Norman cornered with no way out with the police knocking at his door demanding him to surrender peacefully and reporters waiting outside but before they could enter the room the whole place explodes and then the goblin flies out of the fire laughing like a madman

I_Hate_Nebraska_

As a change of pace I want him to be a constant threat throughout the game tbh. I want Peter to propose in sm2 dlc and have Norman attack the wedding at the start of the game, and just be constantly fucking up everyone’s day throughout all 3 acts.

Rizuku_Ren

Casual Spider stuff at the start of the game only to be surprised attacked by the Goblin.

Ok_Weight_3382

I need a Green Goblin who is on hots from the very moment the game starts. Norman on an exhausting mission to kill spider-man. Just breaking him down nonstop throughout the game.

SavingsFit1496

I'd say Norman becomes the goblin about halfway through the game and after he becomes the goblin he goes after the spidermen and causes destruction all around the city just to get to spiderman emotionally. Causing Peter and Miles and maybe Cindy to team up for the rest of the game to find and take down Norman. And have a scene where Peter, after losing the anti venom suit for a brief part of the game in the end, wears his advanced 2.0 suit or a new 3.0 suit that looks very similar to a classic spiderman suit but with the white spider and black instead of blue. And let's say towards the end before the final battle, Miles and Cindy get fatally injured and it's up to Peter now. So we get a 5 phase boss fight with The grean goblin that has peter chasing the goblin around the city between the phases like in the Lizard boss fight. And let's say for this that Otto got betrayed once more by Norman and gets either knocked out or killed. So peter and Goblin fight throughout the city and the final Phase ends with Peter and Goblin in the neighborhood where aunt may's house is. At this point Norman already knows Peter is Spiderman, but je doesn't care and just wants to kill Peter. So In the end peter defeats but it costs peter his hand. In the end Harry either wakes up or stays dead (its up to you) and Peter, now changing the name of EMF to Parker Industries, makes himself a new hand (and btw peter and mj are married in this game). In the end we see Norman being taken to the raft and he cries in his cell. Peter goes back out into the city to swing with Miles and Cindy who both have new suits that don't look like toothpaste. A freeze frame happens and boom it ends.

WOLKsite

Probably end of 1st act, and then have him around for the 2nd act, have Ock for most of 3rd act, with Norman swooping in at the end. Or something... idk.

DXbreakitdown

Norman Goblin near the beginning and all throughout the game. Harry Goblin as final boss, actually finally really dies in the end. End credits sting with a surviving Norman elsewhere in the world.

KayRay1994

I think they’ll switch things up, I could see him becoming the goblin at the beginning of act 2

Jokers_Unwanted_Kid

honestly, i can see insomniac going in a similar direction with martin li in the first game, y’know? have the villain in the shadows pulling strings and then they get revealed at the end of the first act. i think that’s the best and most likely way to incorporate gobby in the next game

DuckyHornet

Spend the whole time lampshading Norman as the Green Goblin, then whoops, it's actually a fashion designer! Maybe!

KristophGavin

Start the game with the requisite big fight set piece against Goblin, then flashback for the rest of the game, leading up to the fight you started on.

jymehendrix

Imagine The first mission is Norman attacking Peter at his home forcing him out of his “break”

WingedSalim

We had three games establishing Norman. I think we are good at making him a villain at the start. And i know Insomniac wants to break out of the 2 villain structure they have dug themselves in. I think having an over acrhing villain who is relevant from the start and end would be a good choice.

Snakeb0y07

I feel a slow ramping up would be a neat idea. Act 1: Regular norman, still making the serum, trying to get it done by hiring other people to do it (Keeps with the pattern of the first act being chill) Act 2: Goblin is born, either a suit (ala Willem Dafoe's Gobby) with the concept art for the final act or The concept for act 2, and an ultimate inspired goblin for act 3. Have him making slight attacks against the family members of the spider-men, while trying to keep it anonymous (causing mayhem a block or two away from Rio's office, the daily bugle etc) and not doing too much damage to the city or Civilians. Act 3: Norman loses it, 3rd designs I mention before happen, and he becomes more manic, straight gunning for the people they care about and causing general chaos across the city, think Act 3 of Spider-man PS4 but larger scale, and a lot worse. Maybe introduce a random chance of Gobby chasing down the Spider-men while you're going from mission to mission (like the man-bat from Arkham Knight)?

Abraham_Issus

Whoever said Insomniac Norman would never wear this are the most unimaginative folks imaginable. You guys get that Gobby could be a whole different personality? Norman could be a jock and fashion freak in his days who got tame when he entered the corporate world. So many interesting ways to write this in. I'm glad you guys aren't writers.

DragonDon1

Slow burn descent into madness

tcodes27

I can see something like this, considering how these games have worked. Norman starts off with the suit and glider, and plays both sides of the coin. Pretending that Goblin is a dangerous threat, who may be working with Spider-Man, and must be stopped, resulting in his Oscorp troops patrolling the city. However, the serum he used is slowly mutating him into Ultimate Goblin But after he’s defeated before the third act and revealed to be the Goblin, which causes everyone to turn against him once again, he snaps. Fueled by hatred, he decides to take control of the city by unleashing a fume from the serum he used that turns civilians into Goblin creatures. This would result in Peter, Miles and Cindy to find a cure, save the city, and by the time they face Norman for the final showdown, he becomes Ultimate Goblin, which would be an insane final boss for the series. This would match with what Insomniac has been doing. Have numerous groups in the city (crimes, Oscorp troops, Goblins), have a different main villain type in each half, and have a city wide threat. Also, in terms of potential boss fights outside of Goblin, maybe have another round with Doc Ock, who Peter goes to in order to help him stop Norman, but maybe Ock’s reluctant at first because of the neural interface. Other fights could be, maybe Jackal and/or Morbius, as they can both be Oscorp scientists turned villains wanting revenge on Norman.

Holy_Grigori

I’d prefer Norman be Green Goblin at the beginning and the first two acts serve as an investigation into who it is, and the third be the climatic boss run

1400Diggg

Definitely at the start, definitely, have him jump you during the story and free roam like man bat and be the final boss at the end , like some else said similar to ghost of Tsushima. Would be hella refreshing as all 3 games have had the same formula and for the last main Spiderman game (I think) that would be the best option to take and tbh I really hope insomniac does that over anything else. They should switch it completely. Have him show up at the start , give us a flashback of him transforming early- mid story, have Peter be on this mystery detective type vibe trying to find out who he is. And give us 2-3 villains through the story too , I also think miles should get fucked up and check out for a large part of the story too because I do want this last game to be Peter centred This concept art is cool asf btw

Few-Pineapple-1542

Venom being saved until the third act was the most disappointing aspect of Spiderman 2 for me, I wanna see Goblin much earlier

TaskMister2000

From the way the leaks described it, they've been building up to this for 2 games now. So I think Green Goblin is coming at the end of Act One and he's going to be a recurring villain we fight several times.

lil_leggy_

I’ve got almost nothing to add to this conversation other than I really like that green goblin design

issa_cross

Idk about RIGHT away, but I think middle or end of Act 1 is a decent spot. Think the point where Harry is Agent Venom in terms of the story. From the start to that point, Norman is just slowly losing it especially with Otto there to taunt him through it all now. And not losing it like "Oh he's a victim of this thing" like with Harry, I want him to go full Ultimate Norman and just be evil as fuck to the point the dude is terrifying even out of Goblin suit/mode And speaking of ultimate Goblin, i may be in the minority on this but I hope he starts off as a tech goblin and turns into a Monster Goblin by the end thus turning the 3rd game into the perfect blend of the science/tech heavy 1st game(s, if you count MM) and monster/superpower heavy 2nd gave

MightAdventurous1763

Honestly, I feel like we may start the game with Miles hunting down Chameleon and so the last member of the Kraven Family, as well as training Silk. But then he gets interrupted by the Goblin. So the first act will be about Miles trying to find out who the goblin is and hunting him down together with Silk. This will probably lead to some huge problems and as soon as Miles finds out about Norman, Peter will suit up one last time.

Ok-Assumption-3923

The beginning since the game will be about 20h long

Olliex3371

For me I would like him to become the Green Goblin either halfway through or a bit before then

Jake6942O

Honestly maybe something different this time? Though I like the sort of “decoy villain” trope it would feel a little boring if they did it 3 times in a row

AbuHuraira-

I like the idea of Goblin being already around as a smaller villain and Miles hunting him on his own until he finds some clues hinting that he is Norman and planning something big. Miles then tells Peter to bring him back because he can’t take him on on his own and Goblin succeeds at his plan and "cures" Harry making him another Green Goblin. Would be cool to either see 2 Goblins or just a second one as him being Harry.

Sutty115

Norman seems pretty old and I don't think his face would work as the goblin in this series. He just doesn't seem to fit the role in my mind, unless he becomes similar to the Ultimate GG. So I honestly dk

Seel_revilo

Early seeing how rushed Venom was

Muted-Pie-7758

He needs to be the villain through all 3 acts while Otto shows up midway through to give them a tougher time. If they do the same formula for villains in the 3rd game I’m done with Insomniac. It’s tiresome

groovyweeb

Absolutely start the game off with him as Green Goblin. Sucks that Harry was saved for the Venom storyline because I'd love a game where you're wondering if it's Harry or Norman throughout, could end up finding out it's one or both of them. Idk if a storyline has done both Osborns being the goblin together(?)

Illustrious_Cell4136

I’d rather he be a villain right from the beginning. We can have more time with him that way and it would be cool to have the Green Goblin attack out of nowhere and Peter’s like “Who the hell is this guy?”

Marvels_Spider-Man2

We definitely need to see Norman slowly transform so towards the end of Act 2 i think
