BigSmokeLovesCheese

That's a cute outfit, did your husband give it to you?

kmukayed

That joke wouldn’t fly today unfortunately

KieKaiD

Actually, he did. He bought this for me on our ten-year anniversary. Not only is he my lover, he's my best friend and my soulmate. I'm not ashamed of who I love, nor should I be. For someone with strange abilities due to, I assume, accidental exposure to radioactive spider-blood, you're not very tolerant of those different to yourself. You're on the wrong side of history, Spider-Man.

kmukayed

I always assumed spidey was joking that bonesaw looked like a girl

Justacactus1

No it was a dig at him cause that type of person would not like being called gay.

kmukayed

That type of person wouldn’t like to be called a woman either. I don’t think Sam Raimi is the type to make fun of gays. To demean someone’s masculinity though, especially that type of person, fits

Justacactus1

I mean either option of Peter insulting Bonesaw’s masculinity is correct.

Nathoodle

Trying to insult someone's masculinity by implying they're gay is homophobic

Justacactus1

Look at it from Bonesaw’s perspective and tell me I’m wrong.

Neutralgray

You can stop making excuses, it was clearly a gay joke.

kmukayed

You can take it however you want, don’t attack me for the way I’m taking it

_SomeRedditUser

I'm glad you remembered the hyphen

imanhunter

Spider blood, spider blood, radioactive spider blood

Cat-Grab

I love that meme

bird720

John's videos

[deleted]

Why not? I still laughed at it

kmukayed

Yeah I do too, but for obvious reasons, it wouldn’t fly if it was made these days

Relevant_Scallion_38

I heard on some channels they actually removed that line. Now it's just "That's a cute outfit". Complaints said it was homophobic

kmukayed

But I always assumed spidey was teasing him as like a woman, not a gay man. Revealing outfit long hair etc

Zeke-Freek

As a kid, I assumed he was taunting him because he just looked like a guy who would take offense to it.

Erwin9910

That's literally exactly what it is, lol

GRIZZLYX12

I remember reading somewhere that when it was aired on TV recently, that particular line was cut, like, they just snipped the whole joke out

yoUr_mUm_gaY2222

Gonna cry?

piperpiparooo

🤓🤓🤓

Araflooderso77

Could be, but they also animated the NPC expressions so it shouldn't be that difficult to do. Would definitely be cool

HawasYT

It would double their work load at least considering Spidey's face rig is completely different and possibly less complex than a regular face rig so they'd have to do all the facial animations basically from scratch for this one suit

desmoines_spidey

Or, you know, they could use the expressions they used for the parts where you play as Peter since they already animated them... double their workload ha

Rewskie12

That’s not how animation works. You can’t just use facial animations from different scenes even if it’s just eyes.

desmoines_spidey

My cousin worked for Square Enix. That is exactly how animation (especially in this instance) works. Even if they *did* have to animate some more expressions it would not "double their workload"

already4taken

Still, that's alot of extra work just for one suit

HawasYT

Let me guess - Final Fantasy? Yeah, there it might work because it's an RPG and it has immense amounts of dialogues in cutscenes so since they don't have a budget to mocap and direct a 100 or so hours of animations to accompany those dialogues, vast majority of dialogues, especially in side-quests, are accompanied by the same dozen or so emotes that are played with particular lines. I noticed that's how Witcher 3 and Assassin's Creed Origins did it. But Spider-Man isn't an RPG, it mostly has those heavily animated cutscenes where each animation is basically unique

desmoines_spidey

Where the hell did this come from?

HawasYT

It could work the way you describe... if their game was animated in Flash. But since it's slightly more complicated than that - no, it won't work this easy because those animations from different shots were done for different shots and therefore won't just fit in a new shot. Even if they could help themselves dropping in animations from a different scene and tweaking them, those tweaks would take a fair amount of time Here's the kicker though - even if what you said was true about just dragging and dropping already made expressions into different cutscenes, such mask would still double the workload since you they wouldn't also be drag-and-dropping Spidey's mask's expressions all over the place? Either way you have to make two sets of animations - so double the workload

desmoines_spidey

Look, I don't know how old you are but given that you used Flash as a comparison I'm guessing you don't really know how video games are actually made nowadays. The technology has come a LONG way and it would be a lot easier than you're making it out to be. Yeah they would need to do some work to make the mask look passable but it wouldn't take as long as it did for them to animate the entire game.

HawasYT

The entire game no. I only meant doubling the work on facial animations - I thought I was clear with that but maybe I was wrong to think that I made that clear

desmoines_spidey

Oh trust me, you've been wrong about a lot of things so far

Kleptomaniaaac

dont be a pompous dick just because you think you're right

desmoines_spidey

Name calling? Really?

Kleptomaniaaac

you can be rude all you want but its crossing the line when you get called out?

Revilod2000

They also already animated Peter’s eyes for FEAST, Octavius Industries and the final battle after Ock breaks his mask.

Araflooderso77

True

senjulegos

that is actually really true and never thought about that maybe if they like worked really hard on it but i don’t think insomniac would do that just for one suit

ConnorOfAstora

I however raise the question, does it need the extra animation? Previous Spidey games have had an optional Peter Parker costume, the most recent being Edge of Time, they often just don't animate the eyes and either don't animate the mouth at all or give him a mouth that makes him look a bit like a puppet. They could maybe program emotions for the selfie photo mode but honestly it's an alternate costume so it should be no surprise if the animations don't look perfect, think of it like the suits that don't move their lenses but a bit more noticeable. I find it more immersion breaking that we already have a suit that has a flaming skull for a head but again that's an alternate suit so I really don't find immersion to be that high of a priority.

Visual-Reflection

In the third DLC for the last game they had a mission when you web-sling as peter parker and it worked fine.

jymehendrix

Really good question. Now I want this suit in the next game

[deleted]

I think Insomniac Spidey should have his own original unlockable vigilante suit. It’s only fair for the BEST version of Spider-Man of all time!

Capt0bvi0u5

It uh.....it does

[deleted]

Insomniac Spidey has his own prototype suit? Where?

ireadthisfirst

There is a wrestling suit in game but i don’t know if that’s a play on the rami verse or if it’s actually canon for ps4 spidey to have a wrestling costume

swordclash117

It’s from Ultimate Comics. Specifically ish 3

Kleptomaniaaac

its from ultimate but you can see posters of spidey in that suit as a promo for his match

lilvapeh

beat me to it, i love the ultimate run of spidey (before...ya know)

swordclash117

before what? Sorry, I don't know what you're specifically referring to

lilvapeh

before we were introduced to miles morales and our boy met an unfortunate fate

swordclash117

oh right haha, thankfully I read the ultimate run way after all that, so I just skipped right into Parker's return after the death part

al2606

Difficult, probably not But still extra work for scenes that shouldn't have animated eyes in the first place unless the devs are just winging it, so who knows

DapperDan30

Unrelated to this suit, but my dream suit would be a man-spider costume

simon_or_garfunkel

I had a dream that SM2 released, and the reward for 100%ing it was the Man-Spider skin. And when you used it during NG+, all of Peter's dialog was replaced with chittery bug sounds. I'll now be disappointed when this doesn't actually happen.

GRIZZLYX12

I would love Man-Spider! And a suit for 11580 Spiders-Man

Bullitt_12_HB

His lenses already have expressions. So no, it probably wouldn’t be hard to animate the eyes to behave in a similar manner. It’s all his lenses are trying to do anyway: mimic his eyes expressions.

squareswordfish

Eye animation is obviously pretty different from lenses animation

Bullitt_12_HB

Not really. They would just need to program it to what each expression would look like. If the lenses show surprise, then there would be a similar animation for eyes. So many games have done it.

-Omni-Shadow-

I don't understand the issue. Why would the exposed eyes cause problems outside the cutscene? Most video game characters have exposed eyes, why would it cause them trouble here.

squareswordfish

It’s the fact that they’d have to go through the trouble of animating his eyes for everything in the game just for a secondary suit that probably wouldn’t even be used that much

-Omni-Shadow-

You are over thinking it the eye animations aren't that complicated and have very subtle movements that don't require them to actually animate anything. They can do it in code. would probably only take them a few hours to do. The problem comes when they have to animate the rest of the face as well but like I said video games have been doing that forever, its not whats gonna cost them time.

squareswordfish

This is directly pulled from your ass, right? They can do it in code? Animate expressions? What? > The problem comes when they have to animate the rest of the face as well but like I said video games have been doing that forever Except in most videogames the face is showing. This is something unnecessary just for a single suit. > its not whats gonna cost them time. It’s obviously going to cost them time though? They can’t just press a button to instantly get it working

-Omni-Shadow-

>They can do it in code? Animate expressions? What? I don't know what you are having trouble with. Do you not know they can do that in code or what. >Except in most videogames the face is showing. This is something unnecessary just for a single suit Again, its just the eyes its not gonna be a hassle to do. >It’s obviously going to cost them time though? They can’t just press a button to instantly get it working Actually thats almost how easy it would be to get it working. And am not pulling out of my ass. Its based on seeing their talks about the tools their engine and workflows use. And I also work in this industry as a dev.

squareswordfish

> I don't know what you are having trouble with. With the fact that this is not how it works. > Again, its just the eyes its not gonna be a hassle to do. It is, if all it’s going to be used for is for a secondary suit that it’s probably not going to be used that much. You’re acting like this would be used for some important major part of the game. It’s a lot of work for one single suit. > Actually thats almost how easy it would be to get it working. It’s not. > And am not pulling out of my ass. Its based on seeing their talks about the tools their engine and workflows use. And I also work in this industry as a dev. That’s cool. Do you have other magical burros that do things for you, or is this the only one? I’d love to get access to some of them.

-Omni-Shadow-

So, your whole arguement is that its too trivial to do that much work(which its not) for one single suit. OP's question was whether the exposed eyes would cause them difficulty and am saying it won't. If you want to technical details on how it work I can explain it to you if you want.

FanboyXXX

The Human Spider 2

daboring1

I hope for them to add some facial animation for cut scenes for that

theattack_helicopter

It's going nowhere.

gman07024

I mean you could just make it so he's wearing sunnies

AlwaysBi

But then it wouldn’t be accurate to the movie suit

gman07024

I know but if it's the only way to get the suit I wouldn't be mad

ChronicStasis

If the eyes would really be that bad to animate they could just throw a pair of ski goggles on him

ConnorOfAstora

Honestly who would care if he has a dead stare? Hell I think it'd be funny to have a suit with built in PTSD. I appreciate the little details but I'd much rather have this suit in the game with a tiny little unrealistic aspect than have the suit not be included because of perfectionism.

Kleptomaniaaac

yeah they wouldn't do that. it's why you cant see bag-man's eyes. why mo-cap all those expressions for one optional outfit?

Ki11s0n3

It would work, I'm actually disappointed we didn't get it in the first game.

Professional_Basil55

Jus give it sunglasses like tasm’s origin suit it would still work

Cat-Grab

Should be fine

ThatJuhh

that could be why they didn’t put eyes on the BagMan suit, but that was a DLC suit so maybe they didn’t feel the need to do extra work

kunalquilizer

Totally. We have some weird suits already.

KaKaRoT1201

The Human Spider is unironically my most desired suit in SM2

ChemFeind360

I think the suit could work. However, however the eyes just might not move that much in cutscenes and could come off as a bit jarring.

NinetiesSatire

Wouldn't be too hard I think, just get his eyeballs to focus on objects, and somehow get the eye-lenses expressions on his actual face?

you_wouldnt_get_it_

Well it’ll likely be coming to PC.

VarunChadha

Could be cool! Could add sunglasses maybe

susangz

That’s a nice post. Did your husband make it for you?

DEMONITIZEDZ

Just give it goggles.

natalaMaer

Ah yes, the Human-Spider

Reilly_Edmonds08

It would be fine because it's not like people will be looking at the eyes while swinging

kaan101xp

I don't think the character's head will cause a problem
