SpeedZ6

As a result of the strike, all CM Punk matches are now a shoot.

ChargerDriver84

Good god, that’s Bobby Fish’s music!

Styles_Clash

Fish after each legitimate strike or being stiff: I mean folks...

Pennsylvania6-5000

“I mean folks, where’s the workers rights?”

RaidenHero137

Tell me when he is telling lies folks

Somerandomdickhead

Does that mean he’ll lose them all to a complete nobody in roughly 2 minutes?

AusPower85

Yeah, but in front of millions and millions of viewers for millions millions of dollars. Punk cashed in big on those fights. He had no place being in a actual professional fight, let alone on PPV in the UFC… but he trained hard and went for it. And he failed miserably. The lesson is, never try.

CPower2012

I think at some point his trainers must have known what he was in for. There's no way he looked like a killer in the gym. They really should've taken him aside and told him not to fight.

djsynrgy

In fairness, for all we know, it's entirely possible that they actively discouraged him from getting in the octagon, but he did it anyway.

pvdfan

His team tried to send a fighter who couldn't see back out in a title fight. They also had a fighter die due in an unsanctioned kickboxing match where it was clear the dude should not have been sent back out. Roufussport doesn't give fuck one about any of their fighters.

KneeHighMischief

Back on the shelf he goes.

WasherDryerCombo

a forced losing streak angle

afishwithteeth

Stephen Amell in shambles

jaybrone7

He was actually out picketing yesterday or today.

NoodlesTheAlmighty

They make people do that as their time out for not supporting the strike. They made Jamie Lee Curtis do it too. It's pretty funny to see someone say something vaguely anti-union or anti-strike then see them on the picket line the next day. We all know what happened there.

T3Deliciouz

> Jamie Lee Curtis oh no, dont tell me shes anti union too.

Thief921

Nah, she just made a cheeky comment about being neutral and had to clarify on social media

jmpinstl

She’s not getting any younger, I’m sure she just wants to be in as many things as she can ahaha

Fireteddy21

I don’t know, she did just win the academy award for best supporting actress this year. I think she’s doing okay. *shrugs*

williamthebloody1880

While not being the best supporting actress nominated for that film

Fireteddy21

Absolutely agree with this. I don’t even think she should have beaten Angela Bassett, but the latter was probably never going to win because of it being a comic book movie. I view Curtis’ victory as one of those that gets awarded to someone who has never won despite their legacy in film. I hate it when they vote that way because the recipient should earn the award based on the movie they’re nominated for.

Cechyourbooty

That's kind of what they mean. She's a hot commodity now after not being one for a while. She probably wants to capitalize on that more than she wants the strike.

namdekan

She was also really good in that episode of The Bear in season 2, so I won't be surprised if she gets a guest actor nomination for the Emmy's

Fireteddy21

I guess I just don’t think of it that way since she’s been getting somewhat steady work still. There’s the Halloween trilogy and Knives Out in the not too distant past so I never really felt like she was out of the public eye. As a result, I took it more as a dig on her relevancy as an actor due to her age since I know that ageism is a thing in Hollywood. Either way, my bad if it was a misinterpretation on my part.

runwithjames

No but she had this "Gee whiz guys we're all just going to have to make compromises here," attitude and described herself as Switzerland in this situation.

rexdeaz

Who is "they"? Who made Steven do that?

Steakchest

Fran Drescher(seriously)

Obi-wan_Jabroni

crowwreak

Yeah and he looked like his agent had him at gunpoint to get him out there

TheWholeOfTheAss

Like to think the union guys shoved the placard in Amell’s hands and whispered, “Pound the pavement you Arrow *slut.*”

BobbyBruceBanner

FWIW he did have a follow up the next day that legitimately felt like he meant it where he basically said, "what I said was stupid, I was mostly just frustrated that the show I worked so hard on is now being left out to die, I understand what we're fighting for and why we have to fight"

Sockin

Zaslav furiously calling Tony right now.

KneeHighMischief

Yeah right. He has minions for that. On the rare occasion he does use the phone he uses his ivory dialing wand that's ensconced in a Fabergé egg. Of course the dialing wands are only good for one time usage. So after that they go straight in the roaring fire that's being stoked by masters of Westworld.

nianderwaltz

Wasn't Punk Zaslav's One Bill Phil?

KneeHighMischief

You misheard he said Billy Ray Cypress Hill. That promo was weird.

Bauermeister

CM Punk’s a worker, brothers

radioben

He’s embracing being Hollywood Hogan and I can’t believe so many people don’t see it. Just enjoy the ride.

jerseygunz

I guess he does care about workers rights 😉

Denialtwister32

Ricky Rabies is the anti-Jack Spade, love to see it.

johall

Collective Mediation Punk

braedizzle

I mean he’s an actor of course he supports this.

BratWatson

This is a really stupid question im sure, but I keep seeing this everywhere and I have no clue what it is. What is it?

Bauermeister

The screen actors guild (Hollywood stars, etc) are on strike alongside the screen writers guild against the TV and movie studios fighting for better pay and protection from exploitation by AI, among other things

BratWatson

Oh ok, well good for them, they def deserve better pay

throwawaitnine

Yes I wake up everyday wondering why Hollywood actors aren't paid more.

[deleted]

The challenging part is that movie and TV studios are in a lot of flux right now. Streaming isn't bringing in close to the money of television, but cable is dying. Theater habits are more erratic post-pandemic. Disney's recent growth has almost entirely been do to their theme parks. So in addition to the natural predisposition from the production companies to not wanting to pay the writers and actors more, there's also the fact that nobody really knows what the TV and film industries will look like in five years and economic uncertainty naturally begets tightening purse strings. So there's two very opposed forces working against each other right now, it'll be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

BonerSquidd316

Yeah no, they’re making bank. But they’re too busy “creating shareholder value” and paying their C-suites massive salaries/bonuses. SAG is literally asking for fractions of a percentage point in revenue and the studios won’t budge. Fuck them all.

[deleted]

'Now' is different from five years from now. Did you read what I wrote? Nobody knows how things are going to shake out but it's going to most likely be a very different industry and that's a natural incentive to not want to spend more on labor, in addition to the usual disincentives. I dunno why redditors refuse to acknowledge that and just want to simplify it to a good vs. evil morality play. Just because the production companies are entering a period of flux doesn't mean none of the things being striked for shouldn't be implemented, it just means that this is a complicated stew of opposing concerns and demands that's going to be very difficult to parse out for all parties involved.

BurtHurtmanHurtz

Gosh I wish CM Punk wasn’t so full of shit

fadetoblack237

He's in SAG. I'm no Punk defender but it's not surprising he's wearing the shirt when his union is actively striking.

modern_history

His wife is also on strike with the Writer’s Guild.

WaylonVoorhees

Wrestlers are actors, athletes and writers all in one yet have none of the protection.

domoon

Because when some wrestlers wants to start an union, it doesn't work for me, brother

MattMega

Adrenaline In my soul Wrestlers can't Be union, Bro!

gomi2000

i'm a defender of anyone who goes out their way to support trans/abortion rights

illseeyouinthefog

He really is such an incredibly complicated and frustrating person.

DGenerationMC

He's very much a human being. Of all the people on planet Earth, CM Punk is definitely one of them.

[deleted]

[удалено]

vitrolium

I don't think Punk himself is that complicated. I feel the complicated is feelings towards him. He's clearly great at so many aspects of wrestling, he's a sweetheart to his friends, stands up for some amazing causes... and then someone who gets petty and insecure over perceived slights to a level some find embarrassing. Opinion - I found 'Brawl Out' embarrassing for him, for Tony, for AEW. Then I see Kenny and Punk both stan for trans-rights, Hangman and Punk aligned on so many good issues. That doesn't mean they all have to be friends of course, but it's made it complicated to like a guy who appears to stand for things I like, whilst continually shitting on people who also stand for those things and who I also like. For others who flat out hate anything Elite, he probably isn't that complicated, he's just right.

Rickymex

Because reddit is home of the "I dumped my friend of 15 years because he made a gay joke yesterday" crowd

[deleted]

Bc Redditors take ppl having beef with people that don’t know they exist personally. If they even still have beef.

frog-honker

I mean, yes, most people are complicated. Punk in particular just seems like an asshole who has solid social stances. You can be an asshole and a good guy. Likewise, you can be nice and totally fucking evil in the grand scheme of things.

Sef_Maul

Just like Danhausen!

frog-honker

Maybe that's why he likes Pepsi Phil. They compliment each other.

ccharlie03

Idk about a good guy. I think of him of more of an asshole whose smart. Punk knows what's right and that's probably his best quality. But he's not a good person, I wouldn't even say he's necessarily a bad person but a good person doesn't tear down other people like he does

kevmo35

C’est la vie. Made my closet feel very weird having my Young Bucks shirt eighth next to my Punk shirt, now I’m just enjoying the silence until next time Punk shoots

crowwreak

Yeah, real people have annoying flaws.

lostpasts

I don't think he's that complex if you go with the assumption that his public support of causes is just a cynical way to manipulate public support for himself, and that he doesn't really give a shit about them. Look at it this way - would a genuinely cynical sociopath behave any differently? Now use Occam's Razor by looking at his documented behaviour elsewhere (and understand the man's a lifelong carny), and ask yourself what true his motivations are more likely to be. It's very easy to wear a slogan tshirt. Especially as that's sadly that's enough to get a significant number of people to take it at face value and think it's a genuine reflection of your character. *It's still real to me damnit!*

BurtHurtmanHurtz

Wearing t-shirts don’t mean shit bro

fadetoblack237

He's on strike with the rest of SAG. Wrestling does not fall under the strike guidelines.

BurtHurtmanHurtz

Pretty convenient for someone who is full of shit then

DoinItDirty

Since wrestlers don’t fall under the actor’s union, I’m assuming it doesn’t matter that much to be wrestling.

TheWholeOfTheAss

You mean the guy who screams about loving pro wrestling but when he was a UFC fighter said he wished he done MMA when he was young because wrestling is fake is full of shit!?!?!?

vitrolium

Truly, truly admirable for supporting his causes and friends, but it seems to be toys out of pram every single time someone chooses a way that isn't his.

wordyravena

CM Punk: *wears t-shirt with the latest trendy cause* Also CM Punk: "Most women in the business are RATS!" "We tried to get blood from that stone and squeezed her for everything she's got! "

mailman242

> Also CM Punk: "Most women in the business are RATS!" > > Punk in 2005 said that, yeah. Even though he wasn't really that young when he said that, growth is growth and to act like that there wasn't extremely apparent growth in his case is both disingenuous and toxic. I'm sure in my mid 20's I said some transphobic bullshit. And now I'm 31 and technically trans (non-binary is under the umbrella). Progress isn't a straight line and this is fuckin dumb.

5trials

the guy has been supporting lgbtq rights since forever lol

wordyravena

[Definitely after this, right? ](https://youtu.be/NPV9xjq6IcA) Yeah yeah "He was in character!" There's a difference between heeling for entertainment and downright tasteless insults.

5trials

please take a look at the upload date on that vid, thanks

This_Praline6671

Was it uploaded before forever

5trials

do you understand hyperbole or are you just being purposefully obtuse cus you don’t like punk?

This_Praline6671

Do you understand jokes

cyberpunk_werewolf

Come on man, like I'm not a CM Punk fan, but he's an actual member of SAG. He actually supports the strike, he's a part of it.

nonmullet2

The duality of punk, he’s just an asshole. He needs therapy.

LazyAssedAmbassador

Exactly

Jesotx

If only his co-star wasn't a picket crossing snake.

TheTrueDetective90

Cares about unions but doesn't try to help his non EVP co-workers get health insurance by starting a union in AEW.

Rayzee14

Punk would 100 percent be a wrestler who would undermine a union privately while publicly be for it

wezlar

Is it even private? He works for a non union shop producing content for WB during the strike. There's a word for people who do this stuff

nightmarishlydumbguy

No there isn't: a scab is someone who does the work of striking workers, not someone who works at the same company that has workers that are on strike, and since nobody's picketing arenas he's not crossing any picket lines, so I guess you just don't know what you're talking about.

indiansummerscience

Was this before or after he sent the one guy who has actually physically been in the protest strike home for some twitter beef lmfao

[deleted]

Wasn’t he kissing David Zazlav’s ass on national television the week the strike was announced?

crowwreak

Nope, it was a week or two before that, then he shut up the moment it became clear the strikes were inevitable

nightmarishlydumbguy

WGA went on strike over a month before he came back.

Recent-Balance9233

Wasn't there a "David Zazlov loves me" line in his first promo back? CM Punk furiously throwing darts to figure out which social issue will get him cheered. Fuck him.

Officervito

Considering he’s an actor on another television show, why wouldn’t he care about the strike?

dalici0us

I meam the star of that particular TV show clearly doesn't... (I do think Punk is sincere though)

DorothyDrangus

Amell was out on the picket lines yesterday.

puttinonthefoil

Because he got absolutely demolished after his stupid ass comments and was very clearly told to be there.

DorothyDrangus

Oh yeah, dude straight up looked like Fran Drescher was behind the camera with a loaded gun.

Moist-Acanthaceae-37

His wife is quite literally a part of the WGA.

Grooviestviking

Do you mean a part or apart? They mean literally opposite things.

Moist-Acanthaceae-37

Spacebar error but I mean the former.

ScottishTotodile

As an actor - Punk is a member of SAG.

Labor101

I think it's kinda pitiful how angry literally anything he does gets people tbh

DGenerationMC

"I'm very into pissing people off." - CM Punk, 2011

exTOMex

what did he do to hurt your feelings ?

punk_steel2024

Not everything in a promo is true in real life. Not sure why you're mad about a promo, of all things, but chill.

lostpasts

I'm always astonished when people watch a show where they know every aspect is false, starring a guy that's well-known to be a self-serving piece of shit, but the second he wears a t-shirt that supports whatever cause is currently popular (and it's always whatever's currently popular - never something obscure that really needs the signal boost) all that vanishes, and they instantly believe *this* element of the show is sincere, and that guy is now really a good guy at heart. Punk is a highly manipulative, malignant narcissist, and a professional at playing a character. It's actually pathetic how easily he manages to play people with as something as low effort and face value as a wearing a current-issue slogan t-shirt. It's no different than wearing the home town's sports team jersey for a cheap pop. He's not supporting any causes. He's co-opting popular things to get you to support *him*. The sad thing is, it works every single time. Simply because as every carny like him knows - there's no easier mark than your average wrestling fan.

nightmarishlydumbguy

Trans rights aren't popular, asshole, they're under siege in like half the country. Get your great out of your ass.

lostpasts

I must be super confused then considering I see trans flags in virtually every school, workplace, hospital, and government building I visit.

nightmarishlydumbguy

I have big news for you: the world exists outside of your location https://www.vox.com/politics/23631262/trans-bills-republican-state-legislatures

Rude_aBapening

I enjoy how CM likes to stir things up.

[deleted]

Deleting all comments because the mod of r/tipofmytongue got me falsely banned for harassment ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

BudMcLaine

Feel like you answered you’re own question there, pal.

cyberpunk_werewolf

No. SAG has rules about what is and is not allowed. For example, A24 acquiesced to the demands of the union right away and as such, actors (and writers I believe, but take me saying this with a grain of salt) are allowed to work and promote films from them. The idea isn't to not work, the idea is to not give labor to those who will not support what the union is asking for. Since pro wrestling isn't a part of this, it's perfectly fine for Punk, as a SAG member, to continue to work. Now, you could argue that wrestlers are exploited because they don't have union representation and I would agree with that, but since SAG is not involved in this, he's not crossing any picket lines because he's not giving his labor to an organization who is not supporting the demands of the union. Also, he's using his platform here to openly support the union, which continues to give it reach. So, not only is he allowed to do this, he's giving the union support.

SoraiaGil

Yes, but he's working with Stephen Amell for the show he's unrespected the strike with 🤡 Hypocrice runs wild!!

rocky_iwata

Punk and Hunk Connection

No-Operation9423

Any chance there’s backlash for this? My guess is some AEW higher up will get yelled at by a WB exec on behalf of Punk

mva06001

I mean these guys are as close to scabs as it gets willfully generating content for the same media organizations and studios the actors and writers are striking against. Pretty huge lack of self awareness, but it is Punk so I guess that tracks

biggerboypew

The union says it's ok

[deleted]

I mean he did go to Vince and drop 6 months of tv he wrote, shouldn’t he be striking too? /s

[deleted]

Literally no one cares about this strike. There are so much content everywhere with streaming YouTube etc , sports, wrestling, it doesn’t matter if Hollywood doesn’t make content.

LavenderAutist

I wonder what Warner thinks of that

[deleted]

That isn't CM Punk, that's Ricky Rabies.

Wide_Sell4159

Didn’t all the shit with him start with not repecting his co workers rights?

ryanbyrneman

Look in my eyes What do you see Labour solidarity

[deleted]

He supports the SAG-AFTRA strike so much he sends his colleagues home from work to strike for him
