I think USA is in more homes than cw though.
ETA: looking it up they are supposedly in 100% of homes which I find surprising because their ratings are much lower than many cable stations.
As a longtime follower of the Arrowverse and its ratings journey, one issue is that while CW is technically available in most homes, it’s often a low-frequency station. For instance, in Dothan AL, our CW feed always had a grainy look to it and so if I wanted to watch Arrow or Flash in HD I had to wait for it to go up on the app.
And also CW has no first-run sports content so it has less eyes on it than the big boys (CBS, Fox, NBC, ABC).
But it probably still outpaces USA, if only slightly.
The CW inched into college football this year with ACC games and will be doing basketball as well...this is clearly the CW's new angle to do a lot of sports.
And it's honestly a good idea! The sports media rights bubble is starting to burst a bit and the CW might be able to snap up lots of rights for decent prices.

The CW actually has live sports beyond LIV Golf... they currently have the ACC package of football and basketball games that used to air on the Bally Sports regionals until this past season. Some individual CW affiliates (mainly in the bigger cities) also air some local live sports as well.
Here its a subchannel with fox which makes the fox feed and CW feed look bad because they are cramming two HD feeds onto the same channel. I usually watch the other fox affiliate from another city since it doesn't have another hd subchannel so looks much better.
Atleast from my experience, CW airs on the 2nd digital channel (ala 12.2) of the local Fox network.
So if you have Bunny Ears, you in theory have access to it.

Multiple sources in the broadcast industry have confirmed that the CW Network and WWE have been in deep discussions for weeks about NXT shifting from its current basic cable home on the USA Network to a traditional broadcast television home, airing live weekly on the CW Network when the brand's current media rights deal ends in September 2024
The belief among some we have spoken with is the deal is VERY close to being completed with the deal expected to be around five years in length.
Once signed, it would easily be the biggest increase for WWE NXT media rights fees ever, PWInsider.com is told.
WWE has been hard at work at raising the prestige of WWE NXT so that the brand would be seen as something greater than just a developmental series for the company, with Becky Lynch, John Cena, The Undertaker, Paul Heyman, Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley, among others, making appearances in recent months.
The CW Network has been focusing more on sports programming since Nexstar Media Group purchased controlling interest in CW back in October 2022. The Network, best known in recent years for DC Superhero and teen-focused dramas. has instead brought Inside the NFL to CW, acquired the rights to LIV Golf events and in 2025, will be the home to the NASCAR Xfinity Series. WWE programming would fit right into that current strategy.
WWE parent company TKO Holdings has an earnings call set for later today at 5 PM Eastern, so it should be interesting to see whether the NXT rights fees are brought up. That seems to be the perfect place to officially unveil a new partnership.
This is a great place for NXT because honestly the bar is very very low for CW shows. This won't be like USA where its a second tier wrestling show, its almost assuredly going to be the highest rated show on the channel, unless they get another sport (thats not LIV golf).
As far as I can tell (ratings being scattered as they are now) the highest rated thing on CW in the last week was "The Chosen" season 3 premier at 547k viewers.
Dynamite time shifted after NBA playoff games was pulling that.
NXT if anything should see a bump over what they're pulling now moving from cable to OTA tv. This should be massive for them, the CW should put their full weight behind this.
I’m sorta skeptical about the raw numbers of viewers for NXT on CW. But if they’re not gonna cancel the show quickly, that’ll be some security at least. Getting a good time slot would at least make it better than the previous WWE shows on Ion or WGN America which quickly migrated to the Network.
Some of the best stuff NXT did was exclusive to the WWE Network, so they could make lemonade out of their developmental show not being broadcast so prominently.
It’s the new reality of broadcast TV as the strike continues and ratings continue to fall. Live programming is essentially the only big needle mover left, so it’s smart business for both TKO and the networks to lock in some long term deals.

Theres always a chance, but I'd be shocked at this point if it does. Money talks and being able to sell a 3 hour show is going to bring in more than a 2 hour show unless they end up on a channel like fox that doesn't program the 10pm hour....although I think only Fox and CW don't program the 10 pm hour.
It's more interesting to me that NXT, which is functionally third on the WWE tier of weekly programming, is likely to be the *only* one of the three to be on broadcast network television.
It is legitimately going to be interesting to see what it does to NXT ratings. There could be a world where Raw/Smackdown/NXT all pull very similar ratings because of the OTA bump.

Yeah, before NXT was on USA they only had aired on WWE Network and Hulu. If they never were able to package NXT with Raw to get it onto USA they wouldn't be in a position to putting it on network TV like The CW now.
It hasn't gone enough the other way to make up for Tyrus. I don't know what could happened to weigh the universal scale to balance for that, but this is not enough.
I watched multiple of Tyrus's matches during his reign. I didn't pay a cent to watch them, and I feel like I'm owed something for it. I think everyone who saw it is. It's like Batman Forever with Clooney giving out a 20 or even more at times if you tell him you went to see it. Billy Corgan should sign over the rights to his hits to the people who watched those matches for forcing Tyrus onto the world as a bloody champion.
WWE is keeping at least one of its brands on network TV for at least the next 5 years. That's pretty cool.

I would guess that not much will change for WOW. In my area, it airs Sunday afternoons, and regularly gets moved to late night for things like golf. If NXT stays on Tuesday nights, that's far enough apart that they're probably not going to clash. WOW probably draws a different demographic as well; it's certainly aimed at a different demographic from a product perspective.
As for the NWA, I wouldn't be surprised if they're relegated to the app and dropped ASAP. Corgan really fumbled the bag pretty good there. Though I forget the specifics of the deal like how long it was for, so maybe they can come back from that.
Alternatively, the CW supports all three shows to pull different demos and market themselves as a wrestling hub?

And the talent roster of NWA isn't that great compared to NXT. I mean there is a few decent hands in NWA but its mostly former WWE lower card castoffs instead of budding future stars of WWE that they have in NXT.
It's not at all a given that being on the CW will provide a ratings boost in comparison to USA. In the most recent TV season, most of their first-run programming was somewhere in the 400K-600K range. But it also means that NXT will almost certainly be their most popular show if it just maintains its USA numbers.
I hope this doesn't affect how it will be streamed. NXT going direct on Peacock the next day with no ads has been the primary reason I've been watching it. It's one of the easiest wrestling shows to stream close to air without having cable.

WWE is keeping at least one of its brands on network TV for at least the next 5 years. That's pretty cool. I wonder what this means for WOW and the NWA? (I can't believe I just wrote that sentence.)
I would guess that not much will change for WOW. In my area, it airs Sunday afternoons, and regularly gets moved to late night for things like golf. If NXT stays on Tuesday nights, that's far enough apart that they're probably not going to clash. WOW probably draws a different demographic as well; it's certainly aimed at a different demographic from a product perspective. As for the NWA, I wouldn't be surprised if they're relegated to the app and dropped ASAP. Corgan really fumbled the bag pretty good there. Though I forget the specifics of the deal like how long it was for, so maybe they can come back from that. Alternatively, the CW supports all three shows to pull different demos and market themselves as a wrestling hub?
WWE generally requires exclusivity on the station, so by the time the deal kicks on NWA and WOW will be off CW and affiliates, presumably.
Fox Sinclair affiliates were still airing ROH well into the SmackDown era.
True, WOW may stick around then. However Sinclair also had way more power to say no.
WOW will probably be off Nexstar-owned CW affiliates but Nexstar can't stop CW affiliates it doesn't own from still airing WOW.
With the MLW lawsuit going on I doubt WWE would go beyond NXT/WWE being "exclusive" on the CW network programming block itself.

And the talent roster of NWA isn't that great compared to NXT. I mean there is a few decent hands in NWA but its mostly former WWE lower card castoffs instead of budding future stars of WWE that they have in NXT.
USA is a higher rated network than CW.
It's not at all a given that being on the CW will provide a ratings boost in comparison to USA. In the most recent TV season, most of their first-run programming was somewhere in the 400K-600K range. But it also means that NXT will almost certainly be their most popular show if it just maintains its USA numbers.
There's a ton of sports moving there, ACC, NASCAR's Xfinity Series, No One Wants to air LIV stuff though

I hope this doesn't affect how it will be streamed. NXT going direct on Peacock the next day with no ads has been the primary reason I've been watching it. It's one of the easiest wrestling shows to stream close to air without having cable.
