I remember last year when Cody and Roman Reigns was the main event, Roman fans hoped he would retain the title because he needed to break the 1000 days records and he did it, and this year it's the same excuse again "Roman should win, he needs to break Hogan's record" man I know you love Roman but damn, give the other guys a chance to be a champion ffs.

TowerCharge89

So does WWE not care about their international superstars In regards to this upcoming live event? You’re having your first show in Australia, and it seems like the only Australian superstar that you were going to have representing all of the Australian superstars is going to be Rhea Ripley. You didn’t have Bronson Reed win his qualifying match, Who knows if you’re going to have Grayson Waller on the event, and Indi Hartwell is Australian and is she even going to be a part of the event? So you had a big chance to showcase the superstars and yet it’s not gonna happen because having hometown talent means nothing

Mediocre-Cook-2169

If they have just one Australian on the card, they'll have had it better than Welsh fans at Clash at the Castle.

AliirAliirEnergy

We Australians are very parochial, especially Western Australians. I doubt most people at EC would give a shit about Bronson Reed or Indi Hartwell because they're not from Perth and Rhea's really the only one I reckon who'd transcend that. If it was in Melbourne (Indi) or Sydney (Grayson) then having more Aussies involved would make sense.

duckinator09

I don't follow WWE anymore, but some times random videos pop up on my feed. One of them was showing all the male wrestlers finishers. Is it me or do they look so awkward and non theatrical now? Moves like brogue kick and claymore look weird when used as finishers for wrestlers their size (although it's probably really devastating if done real). Then you have fat guys like Kevin owens doing Swanton or moonswats. Even his stunner looks awkwardly slow after the first kick. LA Knight BFT looks like a stunner variant except he is literally just guiding the opponent's head downwards. Zig zag when performed by a lightweight person doesn't look finisher worthy. I think I saw some NXT folk with a flying elbow drop as finisher. Then there's alot of springboard reliant moves that make no sense except to show gymnastic skills.  Many of these moves should be just signature moves and not finishers. I think wrestlers generally need finishing moves that fit their frame. Big guys with slams/bombs/power. Medium guys with kicks/punches/cutters. Small guys with high flying moves. If it's obviously weak like people's elbow, worm or umprettier, then you need to deliver it with some form of theatrical setup.

Pitiful_Ad8641

Just got around to watching the Hulu replay of Raw. Holy. Shit. That Rollins Promo. That's it. That's the comment

Lukas327

Another year, another 2K without cross play. What a bummer.

igot4aces

We often hear discussions on who are the best wrestlers who can’t talk, let’s discuss who’re the best on the mic but can’t wrestle that well? I’ll start with LA Knight(obviously this is just my opinion) I enjoy him on tv in general unless he’s wrestling unfortunately. Who are some others?

SAYMYNAMEYO

Feels as though Enzo would've fit perfectly on this list.

Kuzu5993

I don't care how much they hype up Cody this time, I am not gonna stop being skeptical until the Ref's hand hits three and that belt is in his hands. We were here last year thinking he had it in the bag and look what happened. Never again. It's not over until it's over.

MyAnusYourTongue

And that’s exactly why they did what they did last year. I along with many others felt it was a foregone conclusion that Rhodes was winning. Now this time around like, surely Cody wins, right? Even now I’m still on the edge

blingera

i’m weird as hell and i can’t explain it but for some reason i can’t get excited for NXT weeklies. i don’t know what it is. it’s arguably the best wrestling on television and i watch it every week and i enjoy it from top to bottom but i cannot get excited for it the same way i get excited for Raw, Dynamite and Smackdown even though i know it’ll be a perfectly booked show.

Pitiful_Ad8641

Maybe it's the smaller arena?

Parasitepaladin

I'm not surprised at the hate Tony Khan gets on this sub, since there are just an overwhelming amount of WWE fans here. I make a lot of random comments about other promotions in their respective threads. I hardly ever get the upvote notifications for them. But in the rare case I do post in a WWE thread, I get a bunch of upvote notifications. Makes he realize just how far ahead they are in their #1 spot.

Orange8920

I watch AEW, and generally like the guy. I think some of the things he does are stupid but there's never anything that elicits genuine outrage. Some people take what he does which is mostly trolling and trash talk way too seriously.

Parasitepaladin

Oh, no doubt he has done and said some dumbass stuff. Sometimes I sour on the guy. But some of the dog piling I see on him is a bit much.

Kuzu5993

It's mostly because since he's the face of his company, his actions reflect on it. I'm not saying it's good or bad, but he'd get a lot less shit if he just didn't post sometimes. Like Triple H gets a lot of shit too, but at least he doesn't post much to add fuel to the fire ya know?

Parasitepaladin

Yea, I can't argue with that last part.

Extension-Shallot664

I just got back into wwe after about 10,12 years. I mostly only watched bloodline stuff here and there on YouTube but i’ve been catching up on the story lately and thought about something. The Rock challenging Roman for Head Of the Table doesn’t make sense if The Rock is already the high chief. There would be no benefit to the rock unless he wins the universal championship. For roman it would mean alot because now he could stake his claim as the high chief. In my mind (i could be wrong as i’m not samoan) the tribal chief is chief of his tribe or a particular tribe while a high chief is the highest chief and chief of all the tribes. What if we see any of these two scenarios happen: A). Roman loses the universal championship then wins the world heavyweight championship either at wrestlemania or the raw after ala edge in the elimination chamber (forgot which year) B). Rock wins the world heavyweight championship and roman retains the universal championship via help from rock and bloodline shenanigans and then the bloodline dominates the wwe. C). If the bloodline leaves as double champion, have solo and jimmy or jacob fatu win the tag belts then have jey win the ic title and be ordered by the rock to rejoin the bloodline since he is the high chief and have it all fall apart until next wrestlemania.

igot4aces

He is high chief for sure but if we’re looking at it from the angle of how it was probably supposed to go the rock was supposed to be a face at the beginning. Kayfabe would’ve seen it from the rocks pov as Roman is taking advantage of the family and making false claims to be head of the table so on and so forth. He’d be bringing the family back to prominence. Now that he’s a heel it’s totally different. The problem with the likely tag match at mania is there’s not really anyone to take the pin. The closest thing would be Seth getting pinned but do you want a champion pinned the night before defending the title?

SolitaryPisces

just got back from seeing the iron claw, wasn't expecting to devastate me like it did... fuck fritz von erich

igot4aces

While I totally agree with the sentiment and I get where you’re coming from. The whole family had some issues honestly. Their mother just completely turned a blind eye to everything that was happening as well. I think Fritz probably had some serious mental health issues too. Not that that’s an excuse. I just think there was more going on than was depicted in the film. There are some others documentaries to check out if you’re interested

??? Who now? Edit Scrolled and figured it out. Yea for whatever reason no speculation allowed on him.

Brave-Pass1889

Tomorrow is the day fellas and ladies. I'm getting married to an amazing woman. I'm going to work finishing the story in my vows as the start of our story. I'm really proud of myself.

Parasitepaladin

Hell yea! 🎉🎉🎉

igot4aces

Congrats on winning the big one. You’re main eventing Mania and you know you’ve already won!!

Kuchar1992

Imagine when Reigns and Cody lock up at Wrestlemania fucking Roman spits red mist in Cody’s eyes and it’s revealed to be Nakamura under a Reigns mask

PG is not to appeal to kids necessarily, it’s to not turn off sponsors. The perception that you’re family friendly is good for that. But you do get the kids coming and that’s your next generation of fans. But advertisers and sponsors want safe brands.

Pitiful_Ad8641

Because in ten years, those kids are going to be 18-34 and the product going on Netflix hopefully will get edgier. I heavily doubt that was the original plan but a happy accident it very well could be

pasinpman

It’s about people who spend money on things

[deleted]

pasinpman

They spend quite a bit of money on market research so I’m not going to try to argue against that reasoning

Orange8920

I think kids aren't included precisely because they have zero buying power which is what these age demos measure.

MillyMonka

What's the difference between the intercontinental and the world championship? Is the latter also including Atlantis or what?

GoalaAmeobi

Intercontinental champship only represents the americas, as it was kayfabe formed by Pat Patterson unifying the North American Heavyweight championship (this existed) and the South American Heavyweight championship (this never actually existed)

AcadianTraverse

Maybe it's just not being as familiar with him, but Ciampa looks completely over the DIY gimmick. I think he likes Johnny, and is glad to be on TV, but I really think he wants to be doing his own thing. I think a one on one Ciampa and Dunne match would slap!

ChejovAlacan

“Likes Johnny” is an understatement but I suspect he also misses singles action

cleeseula

Rock does not seem OK. 1. Instructs Cody fans to stick Chicken McNuggets up there orifices. This is like when Gwyneth Paltrow sold rocks to stick in your holes while you sleep. Doctors say to not stick anything into a hole that cannot be easily pulled back out. Rock and Paltrow are not doctors and their medical advice is unsound. 2. Doesn't get the irony of saying "I am the people's champion whether you like it or not." 3. Cody said nothing disparaging about Rock's family but Rock said he did and slapped him.

Boltgrinder

perfect booking, no notes.

[deleted]

Hey sorry if this has been discussed already, but does anyone have any Cody/Roman/ Rock fantasy booking ideas? Preferably in as many paragraphs as humanly possible? Thanks in advance!

AcadianTraverse

Boy Howdy, Do I! Despite the fact that 10 days ago I was convincing everyone that there was no way The Rock would be able to work a match because I could tell he was gassed on TV, I now have ideas for how to involve him in the main event of both nights.

Newish-to-LV

Reading more about the details of Raychell Rose firing, I think I would have fired her too. You do not go to a place where you know someone that wants to harm you is at.

Savings_Estimate9383

A controversial subject but it left me extremely unresponsive. Did anyone else see the "salute" that Taiji Ishimori did in Fantastic Mania? It was extremely uncomfortable to watch the rest of the show

dandykaufman2

There was a post on /njpw about it. So fucking weird.

Hot_Pie1464

Before I discuss my fantasy booking let me just say, I believe Cody MUST finish the story at Wrestlemania by beating Roman for the title, and I also want Sami to win the WHC by defeating Seth and Drew. Now that that’s out of the way, if we wanna get crazy with booking the main event of Wrestlemania 40, what if it goes like this: Roman and Rock vs Cody and Seth - Night 2 Main Event, Winner Take All If Team Bloodline wins, Roman retains the undisputed title and Rock wins the WHC. If Freakin’ Nightmare wins, Seth retains the WHC and Cody wins the undisputed title. Match is chaotic af, near falls and bodies everywhere, everybody’s down. Out comes Damien Priest AND Finn Balor. Priest cashes in the MITB to make this a triple threat tag team, Damien and Finn win, effectively becoming Undisputed Champion and World Heavyweight Champion respectively. Cinema 🎥 Edited: for those that obviously dont get the troll booking lol

ChejovAlacan

Side note but this reminds me of when WCW had a tornado tag match where the World Heavyweight title was on the line

shadowrangerfs

I wouldn't be against that winner take all idea.

GameplayerStu

Put down the crack pipe

HelpMeDecideMyName

Man imagine a Shield triple threat main event at Mania while Roman is still holding his current title. Would probably be the best WM main event ever.

shadowrangerfs

No. It wouldn't. We already had the Shield 3 way. I don't need to see it again.

HelpMeDecideMyName

We have had a Cody-Roman 1v1 too. And in a Mania main event too. Shield triple threat would be 10x the better match imo

TheRyanFlaherty

I’ve generally found Cody to be pretty lame…so much of it (since AEW) feels self Indulged and forced. Like someone going down a checklist of every wrestling trope ever in their quest to be the most babiest babyface in the history of professional wrestling! That said, just had the thought that in a world (at least in my estimation) that can feel more cynical and depressing by the day….maybe I should appreciate Cody’s popularity. Maybe I should take some hope in the fact that the most babiest of all baby faces had gotten over in 2024. That people actually want something pure to feel good about in their life…. Realizing this isn’t really going anywhere, other than possibly looking at this Cody run through a new lens….guess it’s just a random thought from someone that has too many of them. 😝

DidiGreglorius

I like Cody a lot—there are some guys who are more compelling overall but I think you need one main guy who’s just a straightforward face in order for the anti-hero/tweener types to stand out. Plus it’s great for business reasons but that’s less important to me. The challenges for him will be — can he keep his character fresh after he finishes the story, and can he keep the fans invested during his title reign. But if he does that, I think he’s earned a few years as the top dog. Don’t really watch AEW but I could see how his persona wouldn’t play as well in their lane and without his personal history with WWE.

gunpowderjunky

See I feel like a lot of Cody's stuff in AEW felt self indulgent and forced. In WWE though it has all this history that plays into it. It was in WWE that he was undesirable. Many of the stars of WWE were Dusty's kids. Dusty wrestled there. Dustin wrestled there. Cody's schtick feels more genuine in WWE to me.

DeliMustardRules

Cody in WWE is easy for me to cheer not because of his weekly actions but because of his journey. Here's a guy who left WWE, built himself up outside of the company (including building an alternative to WWE itself) and now is back to take over the company and do the thing his dad couldn't. That's a super cool arc and easy to get behind. Cody sitting on the turnbuckle and being the "cool teacher" helping Jey and Sami work through their feelings is lame as shit

throwwawayyy688

Fantasy booking Cody Vs McIntyre next week: After a back and forth quick 8-10 mins (I don't want this PLE level match to go on too long on free TV) Cody has McIntyre in the corner, and just like at WM39, Solo spikes him to cause a DQ. Once McIntyre recovers and sees Solo, he turns into a fit of rage and brutally attacks Solo, with chairs, through the table, multiple claymores etc. All the while he's shouting "this is all your fault" (going back to CATC). The benefits: 1) Cody wins 2) McIntyre remains strong 3) On Smackdown next week, Paul Heyman realises the situation that the bloodline is in, where even the heels are against the bloodline.

Low-Donkey7059

I was thinking since the announcement of Takuya Nomura vs Fuminori Abe for Bloodsport that Danielson said "neutral ground" & "any promotor", what are the chances we get Bryan vs Zack, the tie-breaker for Bloodsport? Barnett was at WrestleDream last year & apparently told Bryan how much he loved the match. Not to mention Meltzer saying Tony's pretty much letting Bryan do what he wants for his last full-time run. So maybe it's a possibility? IDK

dandykaufman2

No way it’s on an indie show. I think either Dave or Bryan suggested Forbidden Door was neutral ground since it’s a co-promoted show.

mikro17

Danielson's specific wording was definitely interesting, but until something different pops up, I think most likely right now might be Wembley for All In? It would be in AEW, but also in England. It wouldn't be neutral ground in the sense of both guys *having no connection*, but it would be neutral in the sense of both guys *having a big connection*. Mostly just because I don't know who else could really afford to put that on. I had been guessing Ospreay for Danielson's Wembley match, but ZSJ was always possible too.

LarryLegend1836

That Tony Khan thread on here is crazy. The top 300 comments are all saying, "Why are people attacking Tony, WWE fans are so unhinged," yet sorting by controversial gets me no results. It's crazy that people will use a very serious rape allegation to dump on wwe fans while pretending they're the victims. Fucking never change IWC.

Illuminati_Shill_AMA

You must not have scrolled more than half a second when you sorted by controversial because there are and were posts about "why is he even commenting on this." https://preview.redd.it/zl3riwugteic1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=42925d3e5ace3fafe8fdb4dc51a7ff7ea4863316

unseenbox

In most of those cases, it's because when they arrived in the thread there *were* comments like that, but they either got deleted or pushed to the bottom and in the mean time, their comment got upvoted to the top. This isn't a unique situation. It happens in WWE threads, too, depending on who sets up shop in the post first.

pasinpman

Scroll down.

Orange8920

A bunch of comments also tend to get deleted

LarryLegend1836

I think reddit posts the top 200 comments before you have to click see more, I clicked see more twice, so I'm assuming I saw 300? Then sorted by controversial and still nothing. Also if in a 600 comment thread less than 5 comments are doing one thing and 200 complain about that as if it's everyone than that's just fucking stupid.

pasinpman

I’m not sure about you, but to me personally, one post defending rape kinda outweighs the other comments. And yes, those do exist.

LarryLegend1836

I really can't believe I wasted my time, but I just went through every comment on that thread. Unless it was deleted, not a single comment defending rape. Again, if you see it, just link it.

pasinpman

I’m not sure you know how to use Reddit then.

LarryLegend1836

Well, maybe not then. Could you link or maybe even just copy-paste the comment in that thread that defends rape?

pasinpman

No, I’m not copying and pasting anything. You are more than capable of scrolling down to the comments saying Tony didn’t need to comment on this or bringing up other alleged offenders. I believe in you. You got this!

LarryLegend1836

I'm not sure if you read my other comment, but I literally did just that. You said people were in their defending rape, I said they weren't. There's this thing called burden of proof. Look it up, I believe in you. You got this.

pasinpman

And yes, I circled back and that did actually happen.

jdlyga

I heard Cody was popular, but holy shit. I haven't watched much wrestling in the past 10 years. But the way the fans reacted to Cody on Raw was just as big as a John Cena or Yes Movement Daniel Bryan reaction 10 years ago. He's not just IWC popular, he's actually legitimately popular. I'm so proud of our little Cody.

Sir_Bass13

Did Cody soft launch a Dwayne Johnson presidential run last night?

Or maybe he hinted to Dwayne politicking backstage?👀

EcoterroristThot

What Moxley has done is so much more fulfilling and prestigeous than Seth's WWE career

Sports2023

Taking a wild guess on what Rock will do at Wrestlemania. Seth is getting screwed by Roman and Rock the day he will be cleared and they will help Damien to successfully cash in.  Priest will defend title against Elimination chamber winner and we will have Seth vs Rock at Mania.

Orange8920

The fact that thread about Tony Kahn's comments is blowing up speaks more to the derangement syndrome people have with him than what he actually said which is fine. The fact he said WWE riles people up because they desperately want whatever happened to be confined solely to Vince and move on.

LarryLegend1836

Every comment in that thread is, "Why are people attacking Tony, WWE fans are insane" when, even after sorting by controversial, I have yet to see 1 comment doing that.

45jayhay

It's because comments are getting deleted.

StormWarriorX7

Should NJPW Strong simply merge with ROH, to create a joint-owned promotion between AEW-NJPW that acts as a feeder for both companies? NJPW can send their Young Lions to ROH on excursion for experience and development. Rocky Romero can book the thing. But the question is, how will this potentially affect the Continental Championship. Will it be defended in CMLL due to the partnership between AEW and CMLL?. Idk. Just a shower thought I guess.

DeliMustardRules

I think that might be the direction things head. As for the crown, just keep it the way it is and let it still be defended in NJPW. NJPW would still have a belt represented

Pretend_Spray_11

Why did Cody say "but not at Wrestlemania"? And then Rock came out to antagonize Roman?

djsunyc

there's been countless times wwe has had plans only to alter them soon after. whatever their initial plans were no longer matters. all that matters now is what we're shown on tv. the "not at wrestlemania" thing may simply be discarded and never mentioned again. and in all honesty, doesn't really matter anymore. the story now is cody chose roman and the rock is not in the story.

dandykaufman2

I was really tired and falling asleep during ZSJ-Bryan at New Beginning, so maybe that factored into me not thinking it was anywhere near WrestleDream. I guess I should revisit before the rubber match cause yall love it. The western chants hurt it for me.

suplexenjoyer

Definitely watch it again its basically the first match with better narrative integration. I watched them back to back and the Osaka match definitely feels like it developed on ideas from the wrestledream match. The western chants were 50/50 for me. On one hand, it was really endearing for a Japanese crowd to do english chants. On the other hand a handful of fans trying to force them was definitely annoying.

mikro17

> The western chants were 50/50 for me I thought the "this is awesome" chant was great because it actually caught on. All of the failed chants though, not so great for me. 50/50 really is the best possible description.

Silver012345673

As far the Roman Roman/Rock/Cody/Seth stuff, if they could just answer like two things for me, I’d feel fully on board and just as optimistic as everyone else. I was initially annoyed that Cody made 0 mention or acknowledgement about how he gave his mania spot to the rock because it felt like classic Vince “we’re gonna insult your intelligence by going hey don’t focus on that focus on this thing! That other thing? Idk what you’re talking about!!” But then later on Drew *does* mention it so….why didn’t Cody….? Why is Seth now fully on board with Cody finishing his story when he was begging Cody to fight him and thrashing the WWE title and calling it the posers and politic-ing belt like 2 weeks ago? And wouldn’t the press conference thing with Roman/Rock have just *reinforced* his thought process on that? So…why the 180? If they could explain and make these two things make sense I’m just as on board as everyone else

Aggressive_Ad3514

I feel like Seth told the reason last night?

Silver012345673

What was it?

Aggressive_Ad3514

He felt like he was the one that created the current version of Roman, so he feels like he has to help take him down

AKittyCat

It's been wild coming back after like half a year away and suddenly the mods are all WWE shills now? Still waiting on all those past paychecks from Tony, first.

unseenbox

Opinion of unknown popularity: I'm digging the Undisputed Kingdom. Yeah, it sucks that both Adam Cole and MJF are out with injury, but I really grew fond of the Kingdom + Roddy during the neck strong era, and I think leaning into their strengths as 'comedic assholes who are also good at wrestling' makes the feud with the Best Friends really fun.

mikro17

I'm part-way there. I'm still a bit neutral on the overall faction, but I have been absolutely loving everything Taven and Bennett have done in AEW. They're just great undercard jabronie heels. They're perfectly obnoxious in a fun way and their matches are crisp and hard-hitting. "Punch 'em in the wiener, hit 'em with the piledriver" absolutely cracks me up every time. That people actively hold other companies' booking decisions against a performer's current work is just crazy to me personally.

unseenbox

I started liking Bennett and Taven through their TNA stuff before they showed up in AEW, and I've not regretted it since. Like you said, they're perfect undercard jabronies.

Daemonscharm

I'm really hoping with all the talent AEW is bringing in following Revolution we start seeing more big names and matches on Collision. Not saying there haven't been any, just hoping it will feel must see like it did the first few months

Ferdinandingo

i enjoy collision a lot but there's always 1 or 2 matches on there that would never make it to dynamite

eyeaim2missbehave

Winner of Elimination Chamber (either LA Knight or Orton) challenges Seth for the belt at Wrestlemania, but it's going to change hands a bit first, which brings in my boy Truth. Before Wrestlemania, a "still injured" Seth is cutting a promo and Priest comes running out to cash in his briefcase. He (and Judgement Day) beat up Seth and he loses the belt to Priest. Judgement Day is celebrating when the ref checks the case and \*gasp\* the case is empty. He didn't have the contract! Turns out, while leaving and packing up his merch and money, R Truth accidentally takes the real contract with him. He comes to this realization and rushes the ring for a mic. Sick of the way Priest and the rest of the JD crew (except for Nick) have been treating him, R Truth cashes in the briefcase contract to challenge Priest for the title. "But Truth," they say, "he doesn't really have the title, Seth is retaining it," but Truth don't care. He wants to challenge him for the resurrected 24/7 title at Wrestlemania. Truth looks Priest in the eye and says "See you next week at WCW Nitro!" and then backflips out of the ring to "The Time is Now."

EcoterroristThot

Would love to see Stuka Jr torturing Wheeler Yuta. Or Templario killing Darby. Or Soberano Jr somehow be the AEW world champion without signing with the company.

The Jordan Castleificiation/Veda Scottitication of indie wrestling commentary has truly become a blight on the business. They’re everywhere across the top indies, shows starting to blend together.

Mnemosense

This week's Raw finally convinced me to not bother watching the show anymore and just catch highlights the day after. Looking forward to NXT though, I hope the damn crowd lets Melo actually speak this time.

Copying this here because of the rightfully so deleted post. WWE treatment of the Tag Team titles sucks I think it's something that kinda flies under the radar at this time, but the way the Tag Titles are handled right now is so silly. There's absolutely no reason for the champions to be holding both set of titles if nothing is done with them individually. It made sense when the Bloodline was at the very top and The Usos had to win both sets individually. Seeing a wrestler hold multiple titles is cool when we know they have fought multiple battles to get that much gold, and there's a nice story to tell when someone manages to beat them. It worked when KO and Sami got the titles from the Usos. But it quickly loses sense when the titles stay together through multiple reigns, without being acknowledged separately. In kayfabe, it would make much more sense for the heels that hold those titles to not want to be defending both at the same time every time they fight. What I'm trying to say is that they have to justify the Judgement Day holding both sets of titles today. Have Raw teams fight for the right to challenge them for the Raw titles, while over on SmackDown teams fight for the right to go at the SmackDown titles. JD (the stable) has this major storyline with a Raw team that could justify them fighting for both sets? Make them earn it by having them become Raw contenders and then having them challenge the SmackDown contenders. Maybe they can have a PLE match where the champions defend each title against two teams. It also makes it easier to justify splitting the titles one day without making it predictable. And adding something I didn't mention in the post: I made this mainly about the Tag Titles but more so meant to be about the individual titles too. So if a wrestler holds both Intercontinental and US belts, or both the WWE and the World Heavyweight belts and so on...

Why does Bryan Alvarez love using the word geek so much?

ChejovAlacan

I assume you mean when he says “X wrestler looked like a geek” it’s because it’s a way to condescendingly criticize a promo/segment, etc.

MUNIIIZOOO

Probsbly cus he is one. Dude loves to tout his non-existent wrestling and writing career and have managed to convince the IWC that his opinions and takes on wrestlers that are so much better and more successful are to be taken as factual.

zrac

You know Death of WCW is one of the best selling wrestling books of all time and has likely grossed around "the same amount WCW was sole for", right? I get you don't like the dude but I think saying he isn't a successful writer is maybe a stretch

Savings_Estimate9383

Last Sunday NJPW had two of the best fights of the year and without a doubt the best technical fight between Bryan Danielson and Zack Saber Jr

CM2_ICON

Bryan/ZSJ was incredible, what was the other one?

Savings_Estimate9383

The other match that I really liked was United Empire vs Bullet Club War Dogs. Man, this match was impressive, all the spots, narratives and arcs of each wrestler were sensational!!!!

Orange8920

People are talking about whatever else Tony Khan said but there's an interview where he says "We have the original Sting" which is hilarious like maybe people think he hired Fake Sting.

suplexenjoyer

I think Chris Charlton is my new favourite commentator. Maybe its the historian in me but I love how he finds ways to tie stories back to the legends and principals behind New Japan.

suplexenjoyer

I rewatched the wrestledream ZSJ vs Bryan Danielson match and then watched the New Beginning match. Obviously both are fantastic, I preferred the Osaka match because it had everything I wanted added to the first match. Specifically more selling and stronger focus on the narrative of "who the best technical wrestler is". That spot where Danielson forces Zack's leg on to the rope is chef's kiss. The first one felt more like a showcase for technical Wrestling, the second felt more like a feud between two technical wrestlers. I think I still prefer Okada vs Danielson from wrestlekingdom but this match is a very close second. Danielson in njpw is sublime.

Stipulation for Cody vs roman-if Cody loses he will never compete for both the titles roman has

HelpMeDecideMyName

What would you say are the chances Roman retains in Mania? I like Cody but was kinda hoping Roman beats Hogan's record. Also, unpopular but I feel like Cody isn't the right person to dethrone Roman tbh. Again, I like Cody but Id want someone with more history with Roman

ChejovAlacan

Little, really. Cody is way too popular right now, the company needs good PR, so having the redhot babyface beat the big heel is the stuff that makes fans very happy

Marc_Quill

Especially when they're going out of their way to make this match have bigger stakes than last year. When you go bigger like they did last night, you really can't have the super-popular babyface lose again.

HelpMeDecideMyName

Yeah, completely agree. Not what I want to see tbh but oh well

Penta-Says

Respectfully, when I see see stuff like this I think it's like pitching a swerve ending to the end of a 7-hour director's cut version of Star Wars. *But what if the Death Star retains!? Think of the heat, pal! The HEAT!*

HelpMeDecideMyName

In my defence, I have wanted Roman to break Hogan’s record for a while now and didn’t want Cody vs Roman part 2 (except for a brief period late last year when Cody-Roman had that staredown in Smackdown when Cody-Jey were a tag team).

shakzz9703

Who's Ilja gonna face at Stand and Deliver? Dijak? If not I kinda wanna see a main roster drop-down.. like Nakamura or Andrade?

Zestyclose_Remote874

Triple threat with Trick n Melo gang.

badguymaddox

I think it's Oba Femi in a Champion vs. Champion winner takes all scenario.

Dexter942

Ilja will probably lose the title to a cheating Melo at Roadblock then get the call up. Melo vs Trick at S&D for the NXT title, Trick going over.

shakzz9703

Smart tbh. Can see Ilja winning the ARMBAR to get over with any unfamiliar audiences

Jamieb1994

Is there any (fun) wrestling podcasts out there that talks about WWE, AEW, etc, but more in a neutral way where they don't favor any promotions? I've recently been thinking about maybe starting to listen to podcasts.

british_pubs

I listen to the wrestletalk podcast, but they do have rotating hosts.

shakzz9703

Very niche but I regular listen to Stache Club Wrestling on YT, but they're also on Spotify. They're pretty neutral

boj0

The thing with Stache Club is they also come across as a more casual-friendly team, both of them are pretty open about not actually watching every part of the show or catching a PPV/PLE the next day; so they'll usually start off talking about other stuff in their lives like music or sports,  and won't go into excruciating detail about every promo and match but they definitely will cover the big moments and things that got them hyped.

boobiebanger

I Think they really dropped the Ball with Truth and JD. The finish was bad and it felt weird how Truth dominaned the whole match just to lose like that, but I Think it would have been awesome if truth took Priests words before the match as he was gonna finish JD and went absolutely brutal on him and Then the rest Could have jumped in to save JD instead of that weird finish

Garlic-Cheese-Chips

The contrast in reactions to face Cody in WWE and face Cody in AEW is wild. I see little to no difference in character, he's still a very strongly pushed goody-two-shoes babyface and he has managed to get cheered over **The Rock** of all people and essentially turn him heel. While in fans AEW hated anything he did.

academicfuckupripme

..Are we going to ignore 2019-2020 where Cody was the most over babyface in AEW too?

Zestyclose_Remote874

Respectfully, this is non-sense.  First of all he was the most over babyface in wrestling back in Aew aswell.  Secondly, none of the things he got booed for are a part of his current personna. He doesn't do overly meta promo, he doesn't do reality tv, gender reveal pyro, stupid face tempted by evil plotline, extended feud with his geeky nepo hire of a friend... I could go on. "Little to no difference" is bullshit, litterally everything relevant to your question is different.

im_2ny

I think one part that people don't talk about enough is the level of talent he's against now. He went from seth rollins to roman reings to brock lesnar to shinsuke nakamura and judgment day (the top heels of his brand) back to roman and now even the rock

AceTheSkylord

To me it's all about the environment. The charater of the American Nightmare is very sports entertainy so it fits better in the WWE than in the grittier AEW. Like, imagine if actual Superman was a character in The Boys, everyone would be sick of him and begging Homelander to punch a hole in his chest within 3 episodes (yes I know Superman could send Homelander into Pluto's orbit in a millisecond but still)

ChejovAlacan

Think it’s more that Cody was too self-aware about that early in AEW but because he didn’t change character, his booking was off putting. Like he wants to play babyface underdog but that underdog is also a PR face/EVP of the company so let’s move him away from the main event scene, but still book him as babyface underdog despite everyone knowing he still is PR face/EVP

Kanenums88

He doesn’t feel as disconnected with the rest of WWE, as he did in AEW. In AEW the codyverse was like watching a different show, but Cody’s more filtered in WWE and he fits right in with the rest of the show.
