The contracts were bullshit and wouldn't allow wrestlers to wrestle/work elsewhere - while wrestlers were making sometimes $1,000-5,000 per-show. Keep in mind seasons would range for two a year. I loved Lucha Underground as a viewer, but these wrestlers are now better off.
I always share this.
For anyone who wants to watch LU
Season 1: https://archive.org/details/lucha-underground-season-1
Season 2: https://archive.org/details/lucha-underground-season-2
Season 3: https://archive.org/details/lucha-underground-season-3
Season 4: https://archive.org/details/lucha-underground-season-4_202102
Being nearly impossible to see is an age-honored Lucha Underground tradition, right up there with "No merchandising or DVDs" and "Fucky contracts". It's a miracle the product was even watchable let alone so damn good.
Yup, that's really the worst part - but I'm glad to see they all still clearly think so fondly of the experience and product, like this event and MLW's Azteca thang illustrate. Thinking back on peak Lucha Underground, and honestly NXT and all the fantastic indie product coming out at that same time, reminds me of Hunter S. Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, where I'll paraphrase a bit:
> "So now, less than five [now six] years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the
wave finally broke and rolled back."
I bought a ticket (GA Standing room) when they first went on sale before realizing that I’m going to be out of town that week if you (or anyone) is interested in it.
I'm a Los Angeles native, so I got tickets to this and I'm fucking ECSTATIC to go! I'm Mexican, so I thought it was amazing to see Luchadors get some larger American exposure right in my backyard
I live in the Culver City area so it's going to be a bit painful to drive that far East on the I-10 during peak traffic hours, but it'll be worth it
Side note: Dario Cueto was the second-best on-screen authority figure in wrestling history IMO. Dude was fantastic, and second only to Mr. McMahon IMO
Oh for sure. Not to generalize, but I’m Mexican (Oaxacan!) so I’m pretty familiar with the Boyle Heights area. Some of the best Mexican food in Los Angeles!
Speedball Mike Bailey would've absolutely been a Lucha Underground guy who kills saves someone with barefoot karate in an opening cutscene before being introduced to Dario Cueto
Look at that list of wrestlers though. It's an elite event, so I can see the rationale.
It's sold out already, so clearly fans thought it was worth it.
I miss Penta and Fenix as singles stars. Both of their characters in LU were phenomenal. Fenix was a scrappy underdog like Rey Mysterio while Penta was my absolute favorite in his arm breaking psychopath role

Man... I miss Lucha Underground. It's a shame about everything that went wrong.
I fucking loved LU. I've couldn't tell you how many times I rewatched
Is it still on netflix?
I'm surprised the creators never tried to revive it.

The network it was on was shut down. Hopefully someone can get the rights tho
It looks like it relaunched as a streamer the year after the broadcast network shut down.

my gawd, takeshita in the temple is gonna be one beautiful sight.
And it's sold out already. Bummed because I really wanted to go to this.

Everything else was fucky to make it so watchable. At the expense of the wrestlers, sadly...

I'm interested! DMing you
If you (or anyone) has this available, I might be interested.
Bring back Johnny MUNDO, fuck this TV nonsense Miss you, LU
Give me Mundo, Nic and Ryan Nemeth, Taya, and Angelico as the new Worldwide Underground
Be a little tricky to include Angelico given he's dead in LU canon
Angel-ico. He's back with wings!
Like half the people that died came back eventually. Its not out of the realm of possibility.
Is angelico still with aew?
Yeah, him and Serpentico are a tag team called SAP (Spanish Announce Project)

Come to Boyle Heights early. Plenty of spots on First Street to have a bite and a drink before the show.

Lucha Bros to a bunch of wrestlers “You guys wanna get some of the band back together?”
Needs Dario Cueto guest appearance
RINGTHEBEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLL
Only if he's gonna announce a LADDER MAAAAAATCH!
Speedball Mike Bailey would've absolutely been a Lucha Underground guy who kills saves someone with barefoot karate in an opening cutscene before being introduced to Dario Cueto
Well that's neat!
Siiick
LU was what got me back into wrestling, also got me to recognizing a lot of newer talent and the Joshi scene
Damn, Lucha so underground I didn't know it still existed.
Lot of very exciting names on that list, makes me sad I don't live in SoCal anymore.
Is it a joshi tossing competition?
Awesome!!!
Oh I'd watch the fuck out of that just to see wrestling in that venue, I hope they can recreate a similar vibe
The tickets cost more than a ticket to Dynamite lol

C'mon Trips lend out The Prince for one night for a run in!
Imagine Penta screaming ALL OF THE LIGHTS like in the song.
That's gonna be absolutely metal can't wait
Book Angelico you cowards
Dante gonna hurt himself trying to hit the angelico spot for sure
This was sold out right away. Was gonna get tickets but it’s on my partner’s bday. Our first birthday as a couple.
I need Penta to come out to his old theme more than I need anything else.
