OverwhelmedAutism

Same

SpaceClod

same here !!!! so happy, these streams were such a joy to be apart of

squashed-duck

is this the most they’ve made on a musical fundraiser? if so i’ll be excited to see how they up the production value this time. the jump between black friday and NPMD was amazing it looked so professional

Jaca122

This isn’t the most they’ve raised on a Kickstarter but this is the most they’ve raised for a single project. So the entire amount will be going to this instead of splitting it between several projects.

OverwhelmedAutism

I think the 10th anniversary made more, but that was for multiple things. This is all for one thing, so in that regard, it might be the most.

SuccinctEarth07

I swear I saw people saying it was when they crossed like 400k or something, so I think they destroyed their record

forevertrueblue

10niversary made more but this is second.

themillennialkaren

however the 10niversary wasn’t a musical fundraiser (it was multiple things) so yes the cinderella’s castle fundraiser has made the most.

stupidlyboredtho

less than 1% of all subscribers provided for the entire fan base 😭😭😭

Does anyone know if they’ll still be selling tickets for the show? With how much money they raised I feel like there will be no more tickets when the event dates drop :(

Llexica

There are roughly 3,000 seats available over the run of the whole show (capacity of theatre multiplied by number of performances). 174 seats have already been spoken for by way of vip ticket backers. 2,056 people payed for reward tiers with access to the ticket presale and I'm not sure if there will be a limit on how many presale tickets they can buy. After that, any tickets unsold will then be released for sale to the general public. Conclusion: Doing the math, it is very unlikely you will get tickets if you don't have access to the presale or already have vip tickets. Hell, I honestly think even many of those who will get access to the presale will be left disappointed. It will probably be a chaotic battle where the victors will be those with the fastest internet speed and ninja fingers. To those folks I say "May the odds be ever in your favor" 🤞🏻

Wildkid133

Yay:)

captainccg

Nearly $900,000 NZD 😳 that’s a crazy amount of money.

abrokenpeppershaker

I wanted to join but I am currently a broke college student and I had to choose between living and being able to see the show, or putting my name on screen and never seeing it. Sadly I chose to live. My bad I’ll do better next time

OverwhelmedAutism

Don't feel sorry. Focus on your life.

Like I know that they use the extra money to make their musicals better. What do they actually do with all that money? At times it really doesn't seem like they use that much money for their productions.

Ms_Monroe

They’ve talked about budget breakdowns a lot on the streams they’ve been doing. It may not seem like they’re doing a lot, but producing theatre is VERY expensive. This show is going to have much more complex production elements than previous shows and the extra budget will definitely show. Plus they’ll get to pay their cast and crew more and it’s great how important that is to them

themillennialkaren

they’ve never made that much money before for their musicals so just wait and see.

Rexyggor

But they've definitely hit over 100k before. Most community productions cap before then (obviously MUCH lower), so it just seems like things could be better in quality than in past.

themillennialkaren

not necessarily, unless you have a lot of knowledge on starkid’s inner workings and what it costs to put on shows and record them then there’s no way you could know that. i don’t think it seems any certain way. i think that the shows they’ve done in the past made sense for the budgets they had. and they were well done. starkid has always been good quality. the production costs and the recording costs would be the things that influence how we view it. but no starkid show has ever been bad quality.

BirdCollections

Most community projects also cannot pay their workers well I acted in a slow last summer and made $280 for a month of performances, thurs-sun Actors also aren't usually paid for the rehearsal process, only performances, so it's possible they're paying their artists for rehearsals and performances

[deleted]

What gave you that impression?

Rexyggor

gave me the impression that they don't spend a lot? I'm thinking the plain chairs that they use for everything, the lack of a set in most cases (which can be difficult with the theater they are renting space from). Not saying they need a different chair for every scene, but it just doesn't seem to be much more effort than a low budget community production of a show.

Hol-Up_A_Minute

Huge difference between Starkid and community theatre is that Starkid pays its actors, stage crew, light crew, the writers, EVERYONE who goes into making the show. The reason they try to raise as much money as possible is so they can give their actors and crew the biggest salary possible so they can support themselves. This IS their job. Not to mention having to rent out spaces to practice in and the stage, instead of just using a local high school. The puppets they used in past productions also cost THOUSANDS btw, and even though this time they're making a lot themselves, it still takes a lot of time and materials. This isn't a modern setting anymore either, they need to outsource a lot of costumes (which are likely to be rented instead of bought) instead of just finding something at a local Goodwill. Same goes with set pieces, they can't use classroom chairs in a fantasy setting anymore. In their livestreams they've broken down what their budgets have gone to in the past, they really use it to the fullest. For example, in BF they wanted Wiggly to be a puppet, but they absolutely could not afford it with the money they raised, so he is two lights and strings of Christmas garland.

Vidyogamasta

Think of it this way- A million dollars is a lot for 1 person. A million dollars split with 20 people isn't even the median salary of the US for each of them. This kickstarter got them half that. People are expensive. Toss in the fact that they also need to rent a location (tens of thousands of dollars), design sets and props (thousands), have technical crews (more people and more equipment cost), etc. Things add up fast. Of course they also make some money on top of the kickstarter from tickets, merch, production rights, album sales, ad revenue, etc. But that's all on the tail end, they still need front-end capital in order to do anything at all. And if they come ahead with some profit at the end, that's fine and expected, they put in the work for it. As far as the actual targets-- it's not too clear, I feel like they weren't expecting it to get quite this big and didn't have anything specific planned out for each tier. And of course they'll take as much money as they can, not a single kickstarter in the world that's gonna be like "ok we hit our target we're shutting off donations now." But they have a few specific ideas they'd want to play around with, but even with money there are always practical considerations, money just gives them the option to consider it in the first place.
