I remember watching the first trailer for The Force Awakens in the cinemas. (I don't even remember for what movie, but I remember the trailer.) The audience was excited to see the trailer, and we got to see Finn as a stormtrooper, our first shots of BB-8 and Rey, and Kylo Ren igniting the first lightsaber we've ever seen with crossguards. And then the images cut to black again.
"...and the Light."
The Millennium Falcon suddenly roared into view, and the immediate screams of joy throughout the theater were palpable. Seeing everyone's favorite YT-1300 on the big screen for the first time in years was like seeing an old but beloved friend.
Fast forward to the second trailer for TFA. I watched it alongside my wife, who is typically only a fraction of the Star Wars fan that I am. But she gasped as she heard Harrison Ford's voice intone, "Chewie...we're home." And she spontaneously teared up. Because Han Solo was right.
The X-Wing is the greatest multirole starfighter in fiction.
The Tie Interceptor is the coolest looking spaceship.
The Star Destroyer is Intimidation incarnate.
But the Millennium Falcon is *Home*.
I distinctly remember seeing that teaser trailer for the first time. Seeing the X-wings flying low to the water made me feel things, but having the main theme play over the Millennium Falcon in all of its modern CGI glory (complete with wingtip vortices!) made me feel extremely warm inside.
Man, what a time that was.
As much as I like the Enterprise, the fact it had multiple versions, while Millennium Falcon had only two (or three if you count Solo's and the Square Dish) gives the win to Falcon.
Honestly, I don't think this would even be a question if we weren't on a Star Wars subreddit. The Millenium Falcon appears in Star Wars. The Enterprise is the main character in Star Trek. In its various iterations, yes, but still recognizably the Enterprise as far as cultural identification and impact.
You miscalculate that a good chunk of people can mistake any kind of Federation starships for the Enterprise. Besides having their name written on the hull, the ships all look alike.
The millenium falcon is truely one of a kind.
Luke’s X-Wing is regular, what makes it special is that Luke is piloting it. He’d be threading needles with any ship in the galaxy if need be, he’s Luke Skywalker.
Well... Lukes X-wing is not an Iconic ship in the overall sence. Yes sure, star wars fans will recognice Red 5 as Red 5, but lore wise spoken: it's a regular T65 X-wing, like the alliance had hundrets of, and are seen numerous times around the movies. Heck Luke could have swaped his shot up X-wibg with any spare x-wing the alliance had, rename it "red 5" and nobody would have known.
And that's my argument aganist the enterprise:
First of all there is no single enterprise - there are multible versions. And it is just a regular... whatever US-state class ship of the federation of with there are multible as well. Let's talk California class:
Show me the difference in The Centrion, the Titan, and the Enterprice, that you notice on screen well enough to emideatly know: that is the enterprice / not the enterprice. Besides it's name literally being written on it.
Yeah. Although I really like the Enterprise D as a model, the Falcon is more iconic to me.
If I show my mother those two she would probably identify the Falcon first.
I disagree. The basic Enterprise design (saucer, secondary hull, warp engines) is instantly recognizable. No matter the iteration, most people can immediately identify the Star Trek ship. I don't think the Millennium Falcon is quite as distinct.
My order would be
1. Millennium Falcon
2. X-Wing
3. TIE Fighter
4. Star Destroyer
5. “Prisoners With Jobs” 1
I like the Tantive IV but I think it’s not as recognizable.
I'd bet it's pretty spot-on if you polled a bunch of people too. Everyone knows the Aluminum Falcon, I think it might be a toss-up for the X-Wing and TIE though.
Forced Labourers 1 might be higher than the ISD if we also accept "That bounty hunter man's ship!" but those two are definitely #s 4 and 5.
"Now get your 6'2" asthmatic ass back here before I tell everyone what a whiny, little bitch you were about Padamame, or Panda Bear, or whatever the hell her name was!"
> Forced Labourers 1 might be higher than the ISD if we also accept "That bounty hunter man's ship!"
I think that it wouldn't crack the top 5 in a large scale polling. It's honestly not a ship most people except for actual star wars fans would get hype about. It gets 10 seconds of screen time in ep5, a bit in ep2 which much fewer people have seen. I would put money on the list looking more like this
1. Falcon
2. X Wing
3. ISD
4. Death Star
5. TIE Fighter
10 year old me in 1977 seeing Star Wars for the first time:
Tantive IV flies over shooting and getting shot at - oh wow neat
Star Destroyer in hot pursuit - speechles. My mind was blown for next three years.
It will always be Slave 1.
Like it's been called that for what at least 40 years? Yeah don't be surprised when people don't exactly give a shit about your rebranding.
as much as i wanna say millennium falcon, i feel like my grandma might not recognize it but she would recognize what an x-wing is from and that's how i'm making my decision
That's the thing. Fans love the Millennium Falcon, but most regular people couldn't tell it apart from the USS Enterprise. I would argue, however, that there's nothing more iconic to SW than the TIE Fighter. To me, it's the ship that even the most clueless person would see and know where it's from.
Now get your 7'2" asthmatic ass back here or I'm gonna tell everyone what a whiny bitch you were about Panamani or panda bear or whatever the hell her name is!
The scream is unmistakable, and it was used to such incredible effect in Andor. Hearing it echo around the valley, you can easily understand why everyone would go and hide.
It was because they put air horns on them that make the scream when they dived. The scream was pure terror instilling and nothing to do with the aerodynamics of the actual plane
That Andor scene is one of my favorite Star Wars scenes ever... (The entire show was really beautiful). Man, just something about seeing that small group in the valley and their sheer terror as the Tie flies by screaming was chilling..
The Millennium Falcon, by far. Chances are whenever anybody fantasizes about being the captain of a spaceship that goes on galactic adventures, what they dream about is based on the Millennium Falcon.
I'm not talking about the design, but the general specs:
* Big enough to be the mobile home for a crew of 4-5
* Big enough to hold some cargo
* Small enough to engage in dogfights and fancy maneuvers
Honestly, the most unbelievable thing about Ready Player One, to me, is that you don't see hundreds of Falcons flying around.
I think in the book the main character uses an X-Wing, but still.
You’re so right about this. My most common recurring childhood fantasy by FAR involved day dreaming about a ship like that. Whatever media I was into at the time changed it a bit here and there, but the main point was: going on adventures with a crew, in a bad ass ship that’s also cozy enough to chill in. What more can you want?
Star Destroyer.
I love the Falcon, I do, but that starting sequence where the Tantive is being hunted by Vader's ISD totally sets the scene - right into the action and learning the universe and characters as you go and making it very clear the Empire is big and bad.
It's a toss between a Star Destroyer or the Falcon. The Falcon has the hero ship effect, making it iconic. The Star Destroyer has the villain ship effect and is a simple design. It will always be between those two.
I'm leaning more towards the Star Destroyer. It has had derivatives in other eras with the likes of Acclamators, Venators, Resurgents, and Xystons, all essentially the same triangle of terror design influenced by the original Star Destroyer. Besides the Ebon Hawk in KOTOR, we really haven't had many similar ships to the Falcon in function and layout.
I think that ti answer this question we should ask a non Star Wars fan if he recognizes any of those ships and the most answered question will be the winner.
I think the most recognizable one is the Star Destroyer.
I know that the millennium falcon wins in every aspect but if we need to do a survey on all the people on earth my bet would be the Star Destroyer.
It screams Star Wars even to non Star Wars fans
It’s a star destroyer, star wars episode 4 starts with the smaller corvette being chased, we see lasers fired at it… then the sheer scale of the star destroyer is presented. We haven’t seen a single person or heard any dialogue, we know nothing except how big this ship really is. That scene is where star wars starts.
I would say the Tie-Fighter. Everyone knows the Millennium Falcon & X-Wings but you mostly see those from the inside. The Tie fighters are almost always shown from the outside. So you see their design more & hear the noise they make. A lot.
The Death Star if you count it as a ship (they say space station but it has thrusters and a hyperdrive...soo...), Star Destroyer or Tie Fighter if you don't. I see a lot of millennium falcon mentions and by name it might be but if you asked 100 people to draw a star wars ship it would be a star destroyer.
Millennium Falcon is no debate first.
For second I’d argue Star Destroyer/Venator and they’re both interchangeable because the differences are sorta minimal
I’d say the Star Destroyer. No other franchise has anything resembling it so it stands out and that they maintained using that shape in the prequels and sequels helps to keep it in the forefront

Easily it’s the Millenium Falcon, followed by either the TIE or the X-Wing but I’m inclined to say TIE cuz of the sound, then would be the ISD, then slave 1, and the Tantive IV isn’t even really in the conversation
It's the Star Destroyer. I know the Millennium Falcon has a lot of brand recognition, but that wedge shape has been the shape of a faction of capital ships in Star Wars for every trilogy, every generation of games, every book and comic. The Falcon lives in a 30-40 years window of time. The shape of a Star Destroyer has been around in-universe since at least KOTOR.
Of the images you provided and in order, I’d say:
1.) Star Destroyer or Millenium Falcon
2.) TIE Fighter and X-Wing
3.) Slave I
4.) the cruiser that I don’t know the name of
Millennium Falcon.
Not merely the most iconic ship in SW but arguably the most iconic ship/vehicle of *any* space-related fiction in (modern) media.
The competitor would be the USS Enterprise
The only legitimate competition too. I love Firefly and BSG but for sheer cultural impact there's no substitute.
By that logic we'd need to be able to identify Luke's X-wing on sight vs any other x-wing?
Luke’s X-Wing is regular, what makes it special is that Luke is piloting it. He’d be threading needles with any ship in the galaxy if need be, he’s Luke Skywalker.
Well... Lukes X-wing is not an Iconic ship in the overall sence. My gut tells me you're severely underestimating how much more popular Star Wars is than Star Trek.
They were all the same Falcon as well, the different Enterprises are all completely different ships.
This was also my main alternate.
Both are so widely known that they're basically in a league of their own compared to anything else in fiction.
X Wing
Most iconic/vehicle ship in any modern media.
For sure, but most iconic space fighter would have to be x-wing
I'd say it Ties -get it?- with the imperial main fighter. That howlling Tie-fighter engine is pretty iconic.
The silhouette alone is unmistakable
And its not even close.
What the hell is an ‘aluminium falcon’?
100%
Hands down
This is the only correct answer.
"What a piece of junk!"
100% !!!
Damn right.
No contest
And its not even fucking close.
My order would be 1. Millennium Falcon 2. X-Wing 3. TIE Fighter 4. Star Destroyer 5. “Prisoners With Jobs” 1 I like the Tantive IV but I think it’s not as recognizable.
This is my exact ranking!
I'd bet it's pretty spot-on if you polled a bunch of people too. Everyone knows the Aluminum Falcon, I think it might be a toss-up for the X-Wing and TIE though. Forced Labourers 1 might be higher than the ISD if we also accept "That bounty hunter man's ship!" but those two are definitely #s 4 and 5.
... Did your phone autocorrect Millennium Falcon to Aluminum Falcon?
Nah, its a classic Robot Chicken joke.
Beat me to it. "What the hell is an Aluminum Falcon!?" - Papa Palpatine
"Two weeks!? Ugh, it must smell like feet, wrapped in leathery, burnt bacon."
"Now get your 6'2" asthmatic ass back here before I tell everyone what a whiny, little bitch you were about Padamame, or Panda Bear, or whatever the hell her name was!"
"Oh god, he's *crying*"
"What do you mean they blew up the Death Star? (bleep bleep bleep) Who's 'they'"?
Go for Papa Palpatine!
"Get me a turkey club."
I think “those pizza slices in space” would be more recognizable than “bounty hunter man’s ship”
> Forced Labourers 1 might be higher than the ISD if we also accept "That bounty hunter man's ship!" I think that it wouldn't crack the top 5 in a large scale polling. Agreed!
Death Star needs to be somewhere in there unless not classified as a ship
It's in the "moons" category
Inseting mandatory "That’s no moon. It’s a space station"
"that's no moon! It's a very naughty boy!"
That's no moon.
They call it a space station, but given it means, it is more accurate to call it a ship. Stations are stationary.
Unless they have thrusters and smart techs that can do anything, like DS9.
Even then, the Death Star can travel as far as any warship.
The ISS isn't exactly stationary tbf. It's whipping around the earth at 17000 mph
"Prisoners with jobs" 1 fucking sent me. Please accept this comment in lieu of an actual award.
Jeff Goldblum is goated
I’d put the star destroyer over the tie fighter. Who can forget that opening scene to a new hope. Otherwise you’re spot on.
I agree with you but I find it ironic that the very first ship ever seen in Star Wars isn't really that recognizable.
The very first ship we see only serves to set th stage for the reveal of the second ship we see.
10 year old me in 1977 seeing Star Wars for the first time: Tantive IV flies over shooting and getting shot at - oh wow neat Star Destroyer in hot pursuit - speechles. My mind was blown for next three years.
Cool space ship! Whoa there's another one right be-holy shit...
Ah yes, the rebel blockade runner, transporting Leia, 3P0 and R2 to Alderan. Did that ship have a name?
Its name is the *Tantive IV*, and the name of its ship class is CR90 corvette.
It's *Boba Fett's ship* now 🌈
Remember when Anakin grew up as a Boba Fetts ship on Tatooine?
I’m dead.
Say hi to his mom!
And the women and the children too!
Only on merchandise, it's Slave I still, they even say it by name.
It will always be Slave 1. Like it's been called that for what at least 40 years? Yeah don't be surprised when people don't exactly give a shit about your rebranding.
💯
Boba Fett's STARSHIP if we are going by official titles
Hot take but the Naboo star fighter might come in shortly after these rankings
Personally for me, Ebon Hawk is my #2 after Millennium Falcon.
Wait, what the hell is an aluminum falcon?
This is the way.
as much as i wanna say millennium falcon, i feel like my grandma might not recognize it but she would recognize what an x-wing is from and that's how i'm making my decision
That's how I feel as well. The Falcon looks like a classic UFO made out of scrap. The X-Wing looks like nothing else.
That's the thing. Fans love the Millennium Falcon, but most regular people couldn't tell it apart from the USS Enterprise. I would argue, however, that there's nothing more iconic to SW than the TIE Fighter. To me, it's the ship that even the most clueless person would see and know where it's from.
None of my friends who don't watch Star Wars could tell the difference between the Falcon and a Trekkie ship, but everyone recognises an X-Wing.
The aluminium falcon and the star destroyer for sure
What the hell is an aluminum falcon? You must smell like feet wrapped in leathery burnt bacon.
Oh jeez he's crying
Now get your 7'2" asthmatic ass back here or I'm gonna tell everyone what a whiny bitch you were about Panamani or panda bear or whatever the hell her name is!
Oh just rebuild it? And whose gonna give a loan jackhole, you? You got an ATM on that torso lightbright?
It's Dark Vaders ship.
Live long and prosper
The guy with a lifesaver??
Mmmmmm bacon.
What the hell is an aluminum falcon???
Who’s they?
Dark Vader?!
Idk, that F wing is pretty iconic too
The Luke/Leia ship.
wtf ship is that
The SS Alabama.
Oh. I understand now.
1) Millennium Falcon 2) X-Wing 3) TIE Fighter
I think tie fighters are a little more iconic than x-wings. That sound!
... 2. TIE Fighter sound 3. X-Wing 4. TIE Fighter ...
The scream is unmistakable, and it was used to such incredible effect in Andor. Hearing it echo around the valley, you can easily understand why everyone would go and hide.
Inspired by the Stuka, iirc. It was a Nazi divebomber with a very distinct howl when it dove down on target.
I get that X-Wing and TIE Fighter are a bit of a toss up.
TIE Fighters for the sound X-Wings because we all knew exactly who it was as soon as one flew past in the Mando S2 finale.
KRRIIEEAAAWWWW
Agree, this would be my top 3
The death star
Isn't it a battle station? It's certainly no moon.
It fails the most basic definition of a station, something stationary.
Eh. All space stations fail that though
Doesn't Palps refer to it as a battle station? Etymologically you might have a point there.
Obi wan too in ANH. Edit: he said space station actually.
I’m surprised this is not the top answer tbh. Followed by the Falcon
Spaceball One
She’s gone from suck to blow!
They’ve gone the plaid!
Absolute menace in space. They brake for nobody!
I dunno, I think the Mega Maid might give it a run for its money. (Are we considering them separate ships?)
star destroyer
The Millennium Falcon, by far. Honestly, the most unbelievable thing about Ready Player One, to me, is that you don't see hundreds of Falcons flying around. I think in the book the main character uses an X-Wing, but still.
One of the reasons Mass Effect and the KOTOR games were so enjoyable, you had a ship fitting that bill
You’re so right about this. My most common recurring childhood fantasy by FAR involved day dreaming about a ship like that. Whatever media I was into at the time changed it a bit here and there, but the main point was: going on adventures with a crew, in a bad ass ship that’s also cozy enough to chill in. Star Destroyer. I love the Falcon, I do, but that starting sequence where the Tantive is being hunted by Vader's ISD totally sets the scene - right into the action and learning the universe and characters as you go and making it very clear the Empire is big and bad.
The Indentured Servitude I
The prisoner with a job 1
Voluntold 1
The Lifelong Intern 1
It's a toss between a Star Destroyer or the Falcon. The Falcon has the hero ship effect, making it iconic. The Star Destroyer has the villain ship effect and is a simple design. It will always be between those two. I'm leaning more towards the Star Destroyer. The most iconic ship is obviously LukexMara
The Aluminum Falcon
X Wing, followed by the Falcon.
May be the unpopular opinion but the Star Destroyer is way more iconic than the falcon
Millennium Falcon
Millennium Falcon naturally.
Falcon X wing Star Destroyer
I think that ti answer this question we should ask a non Star Wars fan if he recognizes any of those ships and the most answered question will be the winner. I think the most recognizable one is the Star Destroyer. I know that the millennium falcon wins in every aspect but if we need to do a survey on all the people on earth my bet would be the Star Destroyer. It screams Star Wars even to non Star Wars fans
Star Destroyer, so iconic, so cool and plenty of versions. So it’s gonna be star destroyer in my opinion. .
Star destroyer
It’s a star destroyer, star wars episode 4 starts with the smaller corvette being chased, we see lasers fired at it… then the sheer scale of the star destroyer is presented. We haven’t seen a single person or heard any dialogue, we know nothing except how big this ship really is. That scene is where star wars starts.
Millenium Falcon has to be the most iconic. Even non-Star Wars Fans have heard of the Falcon
I would say the Tie-Fighter. Everyone knows the Millennium Falcon & X-Wings but you mostly see those from the inside. The Tie fighters are almost always shown from the outside. So you see their design more & hear the noise they make. A lot.
Vaders Tie Fighter looked hard !!
That's a really good point about the star destroyer but to be fair it's also probably the easiest to draw...
It's either xwing or millennium falcon. If I had to pick I'd say maybe Millennium Falcon. Buts for me it's a toss up.
Mellinium Falcon and X-Wing.
Falcon 100%
Star destroyer and tie fighter followed by falcon
The Winnebago
The piece of junk
Millennium Falcon…duh doi
Millennium Falcon is no debate first. For second I’d argue Star Destroyer/Venator and they’re both interchangeable because the differences are sorta minimal
Millennium Falcon and it ain’t even close
Definitely the Millennium Falcon
The falcon and it ain’t even close.
This isn’t really a question millennium takes the dub hands down, if this was coolest then idk
Slave 1 is my favorite. Millennium Falcon is most iconic. Star Destroyer is most recognizable for those who aren’t huge Star Wars fans.
I’d say the Star Destroyer. No other franchise has anything resembling it so it stands out and that they maintained using that shape in the prequels and sequels helps to keep it in the forefront
Hmm not sure about everyone saying Millenium Falcon. I would think if you show these pictures to some random non-sw fan, the chances of them recognizing a SD are higher, yes? So that’s why I say Star Destroyer.
I have clearly spent too much time reading fanfiction because I saw ship without the images and thought romantic pairing lol
It's gotta be the Star Destroyer. The first scene of the first movie and the fucker just. Kept. *Going.*
The falcon. IMO it’s a character unto itself, and I love its back story starting out as whet became the Tantive 4, then what we have now.
The falcon for sure
Millennium Falcon, hands down. X-Wings, TIE Fighters and Star Destroyers are close behind, but nothing comes close to the Falcon.
Definitely the Star Destroyer, everyones seen it.
For kid me: 1. Millenium Falcon 2 X-Wing 3.TIE Fighter 4. Star Destroyer 5. Death Star 6.
ISDs, they show the power of the empire in the first shot of the first movie.
With the exception of slave 1 and the tantive, you can show that picture to almost anyone you know and they would know it was from Star Wars.
The falcon for how much screen time it gets, then the ISD for how large and distinct it is as well as it's high amount of screen time.
Tie
The Falcon baby.
Millennium Falcon.
Its the falcon obviously
Objectively the Millennium Falcon is the obvious and only answer.
Easily it’s the Millenium Falcon, followed by either the TIE or the X-Wing but I’m inclined to say TIE cuz of the sound, then would be the ISD, then slave 1, and the Tantive IV isn’t even really in the conversation
Named, the Falcon. In general, the Star Destroyer (by shape, so all variants and Republic predecessors included)
Definitely the MF.
Reylo is the best ship in Star Wars.
X-Wing or TIE fighter for sure
X-wing The MF is Hans ship, but the X-wing is everyone’s. I think when you think of ships of Star was the x wing comes up
Star Destroyer is THE most iconic due to the opening scenes in ANH and Spaceballs
The falcon
Star Destroyer its the first thing you see, its huge and many scenes take place around or inside one.
Iconic=Milennium Falcon Favourite= A-Wing
Of the images you provided and in order, I’d say: 1.) Star Destroyer or Millenium Falcon 2.) TIE Fighter and X-Wing 3.) Slave I 4.) the cruiser that I don’t know the name of
I gotta say Han Solo and Chewwy takes the crown for me, though Luke and Leia are close second
Han and Leia hahahaha I'm sorry I couldn't resist XD
For me it's Star Destroyer
That at least to me would be a toss up between 3. Imperial Star Destroyers, corellian Corvettes, and the Millennium Falcon.
