How do you keep them from finding stolen good on you? I still some stuff and no one noticed until I grab jumped to a new planet and they somehow cought me
Stolen goods are only ever removed if you get arrested. You can "wash" them at the Trade Authority by selling and immediately buying back the goods. make sure you don't exit the trade screen, otherwise you'll have to pay regular prices since the "buy back" option disappears.
Just a perfectly legitimate and legal transaction. Absolutely nothing suspicious going on here. Just two bros conducting free and fair commerce. Zero illegal activity. None whatsoever.
I’ve been flying around with a ship full of stolen goods for 100+ hours, no issues. Only a problem if you get arrested or scanned with contraband on your ship.
You can also just steal all your stuff back if you do happen to get arrested, there’s a storage crate in most of (if not all) the prisons that all your confiscated stuff will be stored in.
Only problem I had so far was the one in I think it was Akila city maybe, where it was always in the view of the guards. I found a workaround by just killing them, getting arrested and paying off the bounty. Now if I get arrested there’s only a couple dead guards instead of live ones guarding the crate so I can just grab my stuff back with ease. I suppose I also could have just done this pothead trick too but too late how they’re already dead. Most of the other prisons you can just walk right up to them out of view of the guards and get all your stuff right back without issue.
You must of had contraband. It has a yellow icon next to instead of red, when they scan you can they detect that but not the regular stolen goods. They take everything when you get caught with contraband though, stolen goods included
If you didn’t get caught by the scanner idk what happened
You need to get shielded cargo from Jazz at the Crimson Fleet or the shipguy at the Red Mile.
They don't find your stolen goods when they scan you, they detect contraband (golden misc or aid items) in your cargo or your personal inventory and when they arrest you for smuggling they take your stolen goods from you.
So you need to get that shielded cargo and have those contraband items in your ship cargo (not personal inventory) when you get scanned.
Also get a scan jammer when you get that shielded cargo, it gives you a higher chance to beat the scan. You can buy that at the same ship techs.
If all fails and they still detect you, you can always steal your items back from some chests right where you get released from jail. Just look around.
If you own a dream home from the dream home perk from when you create a character (mine was on nesoi) there may or may not have UC patrol fleets scanning you. Therefore a stash house for illicit gains til you can offload them to a vendor of your choice.
you can also rotate objects using the triggers on a controller, and change the rotation orientation by pressing in the left stick. makes manipulating objects much easier.
Now it's only about time before the NPCs have second set of eyes out of their butt that look the same way as their heads, since this is easier to implement than the NPCs simply removing their "helmet".
Only as long as real eyes are added to the models at those locations, which are then only revealed with one of probably many varieties of no-clothes mod.
Yes, usually the third eye is depicted in center of forehead, but I have for a long time figured that the more accurate depictions would probably be on end of men's dick, since that is just about as far as most can see, when the blood escapes the head on arrival of the "male reaction".
I guess it would only be realistic to actually present this on the character models.
This is implemented on purpose. It would be trivial to simply make the pots not block their vision. They want you to do this, make a video about it, and post it online. It's why they decided to keep the bug that made giants send you into orbit in Skyrim.
Lol wait in a chair for 48 UT hours Itll reset
Edit. Shit, or go to venus, and wait there…. You can wait like 2400UT hours there in one sit timer. Its op asf
Yes just wait in a chair and it will eventually respawn. Also another great store to loot is stores on neon. And trade authority in well and also on neon to launder everything haha
Believe me, I've tried the chair trick and it's never worked lol. I'll give it another try I guess. So much to do! I've also just been dropping like 50 weapon crates at an outpost and farming, so I'm not hurting for weapon or ammo.
1) he still follows you around the shop and eventually noticed you because you’re crouching around, chameleon or not
2) it does respawn but the packs and the mannequin do not.
Source: I rob this mfr all the time
The weapon shop in The Well (underneath New Atlantis).
Conveniently there is a Trade Authority shop just down the 'street' from this shop, so you can sell all the stolen stuff quickly.
This is what kills me. Ooo! Let me try this bounty!
- Loading screen to leave Ranger's HQ where the kiosk was.
- Loading screen to get into ship.
- Loading screen to leave planet and get to orbit.
- Loading screen to get to a new system/planet.
- Loading screen to descend to planet.
- Loading screen to exit ship.
- Walk a couple KMs to scan all the resources on the way to the research station with the bounty target.
- Loading screen to enter the research station that has the bounty target.
It's tedious and cutting into my enjoyment of the game.
And, yes, I know I can shortcut through a few of these (most of which are due to scaling if I recall correctly) but still: maps should be better planned.
You can completely skip the first 3 loading screens you listed if you just fast travel from the star map to the new system. If you have already been to that system, you can skip 4 of these loading screens. You can even knock this down to a single loading screen if you've already landed at that location before. Loading screens are much more manageable if you always travel straight from your starmap while on foot.
Yeah it’s a lot if you do it all manually. But it’s less loading time than Skyrim if you just use fast travel.
For an equivalent Skyrim quest, it’s fast travel to city, run to whatever building and enter, two loading screens that were longer than starfields. With starfield it’s jump to planet, land at destination, enter building, 3 loading screens that are quicker than skyrims.
Lots of loading screens can be immersion breaking for sure, but personally feels like I spend less total time on them than I did in skyrim
RT and LT to rotate it. Also clicking the left stick once will change the rotation from horizontal to vertical(or idk the direction it rotates) and clicking it again will change it back
As you can tell I was a C- student in math. Thanks for the clarification. Was trying to spit something out like that, hence the parentheses but I just rolled with it. Thank you.
I think I simply used stealth to get my Smartgun when I first visited the well. There isn't really anything useful you can't steal just with "steal" action and hiding while picking stuff up when the shopkeeper isn't looking.
Ive got stealth 4, concealment 4, and spacesuit mods that quiet my movement and make me vanish when still.... and I can't hide from any human if they are less than 50 feet away.
But a bucket on the head works every time.
Go out of stealth and then enter stealth and about after a second, there is slight time with total stealth bar. When you train (and use much quick-load), you can learn to time the pick-up/steal just for this moment to avoid getting caught.
I think it might have something to do with the level 4 "enter stealth and enemies will lose you"-routine.
I don't use the space suit stealth traits, since I believe it is the exact same as the level 4 stealth trait and it doesn't stack. Same with the epic trait for low health healing and the mod that does the same. Just use one.
Sell to the trade authority, and then buy right back for the same price you sold it for. That removes the stolen tag and you can sell it to him. Don't leave the buy/sell screen as that makes everything you sold to the trade authority cost normal prices.
Didn't even realize this feature was still in the game. I tried moving some objects into another room to steal them like I have in every other Bethesda game and then got a bounty for it, so I never bothered moving an item ever again.
I think it was, because I tried it yesterday and it definitely did not work, lol. Had to use chameleon and some clever and quick timing, because that suspicious fuck kept following me around the store.
I tried this when I started and it didn't work at all, he would get up with the pot on his head and come after me. I ended up making him chase me to the back and locked the door instead.
Weird. I tried doing that already in my first hour when reaching New Atlantis, but I couldn't make the bucket stay properly, it would always fall. Never struggled in Skyrim... I waited for him to sit back in the room, then I crouched and stole the minigun undetected.
Everyone always makes this stuff look so easy, but I find trying to carry items horribly difficult to control/orient correctly. Like I’m playing Octodad.
The other funny one is scooping the credits in the Redmile from the tables to a basket with a dinner plate. I accidentally clicked and stole a fork though and all hell broke loose. Andreja was not happy one bit.
How did it work for him? I’ve literally tried this exact thing with that guy because it’s a Bethesda classic and he loses his shit the moment you grab a pot?
I don't know if it's a glitch but this doesn't work in my game! When I cover an npc head or build a wall to block their field of view it just shows me detected regardless of weather I'm in their line of sight or my weight. Infuriating at first but I don't mind it so much anymore, gives me the chance to work in my stealth skills lol
I stole everything simply thanks to objects on his desk, I just had to find the right angle while sneaking. Even though he was looking in my direction, I wasn't detected, really comical.
I thought they “fixed” this in Starfield. I remember seeing posts about it.
Also that look he gave you just before you dropped the pot. That mfer knew what you were doing.
For the quest where you talk to some pompous scrapper about buying his artifact, coupe you just carry a pot like this with you and use it on him when hes just standing there staring at the artifact lol. I wanna try this
I don’t understand the relationship between stealing and getting caught in this game. I’ve accidentally “stolen” a random item from a table on a mission with no one else in the room to see me take the item but as soon as I picked it up alarms went off and I was immediately arrested.
The huge pillar near the entrance, and the fact that my man barely ever leaves his chair, made looting the whole shop so easy the bucket wasn’t even required
Property theft... Property theft never changes.
The bucket is undefeated.
A timeless tradition
I'll be honest...I totally forgot about doing this. \**fires up Starfield*\*
That's literally how money laundering works in real life. Guess sometimes art does imitate life.
To a point, you don't put 100% in and get 100% out. Realistically, it's 100% in, 60%-70% out.
That's just the cost of doing business.
Oh shiiiit look at big brain over here.
Fucking money laundering exists in game. Love it.
Just a perfectly legitimate and legal transaction. Absolutely nothing suspicious going on here. Just two bros conducting free and fair commerce. Zero illegal activity. None whatsoever.
Perfect phone calls over here.
This ^ or you can mod it (weapons/spacesuits) at a workbench if you plan on keeping
You can also wash stollen good by applying a mod on them (where is the case)
You can also add a minor weapon mod and the “stolen” symbol goes away
I’ve been flying around with a ship full of stolen goods for 100+ hours, no issues. Only a problem if you get arrested or scanned with contraband on your ship.

Same *shits pants* 😔
I thought about this and figured they would have for sure fixed it by now. Silly me
How the hellck do you grab and throw stuff!?
hold down the pickup button to grab. hold down the reload button to throw.
Are you fucking serious. Level 81 and just now finding this out….
you can also rotate objects using the triggers on a controller, and change the rotation orientation by pressing in the left stick. makes manipulating objects much easier.
You can do this in Skyrim too lol. Like bucket/pot on head, steal everything right in front of them just like in the OP.
How do you rotate held items on pc?
left/right mouse buttons. tap shift to change what axis the rotation is on.
Awesome. Awesome to the max.
They fixed trader chests but cooking pots are forever!

Freaking hilarious
Just like real life
Totally immersive.
Must’ve been the wind
You can also use chameleon perk to go invisible and steal away. Does the stuff ever respawn though?
I've never had it respawn. Been like 80 hours real time..
Lol wait in a chair for 48 UT hours Itll reset Edit. Shit, or go to venus, and wait there…. You can wait like 2400UT hours there in one sit timer. Its op asf
Bessel III-B. Sit 1 hour there is equal to 57 hours UT so all shops respawn.
Skink or whatever it's called in the akilla system is a crazy long wait time per hour as well. My go to copper outpost.
Yes just wait in a chair and it will eventually respawn. Also another great store to loot is stores on neon. And trade authority in well and also on neon to launder everything haha
Wolf station is better for trade authority
Believe me, I've tried the chair trick and it's never worked lol. I'll give it another try I guess. So much to do! I've also just been dropping like 50 weapon crates at an outpost and farming, so I'm not hurting for weapon or ammo.
1) he still follows you around the shop and eventually noticed you because you’re crouching around, chameleon or not 2) it does respawn but the packs and the mannequin do not. Source: I rob this mfr all the time
Where is this shop located?
The well. Under the UC in Jemison
Or use the skill to manipulate npcs and tell them to move to the other part of the building behind then steal there stuff.
How do you actually use that skill? I haven't figured that out yet.
What shop is this?
The weapon shop in The Well (underneath New Atlantis). Conveniently there is a Trade Authority shop just down the 'street' from this shop, so you can sell all the stolen stuff quickly.
Yes it does respawn. I have emptied this shop many times 🤣
It respawns after two in-game days.
This is exactly the same as Skyrim and the bucket trick.
Tell people Bethesda made the game without saying it
It has loading screens to get indoors.
This is what kills me. Ooo! Yeah Im on xbox and my loading screens are maybe 10 seconds each at the most. It seems like PC users may be having a worse experience.
On PC for me they are less around 1-2 seconds. I did get the fastest SSD I could justify spending money on though.
Why I use precious SSD space for this game
I don’t think its even possible to play without one.
I accidentally installed it on my HDD first and I was like wow this game IS unoptimized
What shop is this?
UC Surplus in the Well.
Thank you partner
I would like to know as well
Well you know
Can you rotate on an Xbox controller? If so how do you do that
RT and LT to rotate it. Also clicking the left stick once will change the rotation from horizontal to vertical(or idk the direction it rotates) and clicking it again will change it back
Can you change the axis on PC?
I don’t play PC but looked it up and says to “hit the shift key”
Thank you! I'm too lazy to google things
Got you dawg
Incorrect, it will change the axis of rotation, there are three, not two.
As you can tell I was a C- student in math. Thanks for the clarification. Was trying to spit something out like that, hence the parentheses but I just rolled with it. Thank you.
RT and LT but also to turn the axis you have to push in on the left stick. I was wondering for a while as well.
RT and LT I believe
How do you move items like this via Xbox without picking them up?
Hold down A I believe
Idk why you get such a bad rap Mr. Grinch, you've been very helpful
This is how I got my microgun at level 2
I think I simply used stealth to get my Smartgun when I first visited the well. There isn't really anything useful you can't steal just with "steal" action and hiding while picking stuff up when the shopkeeper isn't looking.

- Don't wear heavy gear. Armor and weapon. - Don't try to hide in bright environment. Light matters.
So a cooking pot works but not the box or trash can?! 😂
Please tell me you can sell it right back to him?
Sell to the trade authority, and then buy right back for the same price you sold it for. That removes the stolen tag and you can sell it to him. Don't leave the buy/sell screen as that makes everything you sold to the trade authority cost normal prices.
And if there are customers in the shop, put pots over their heads too.
Didn't even realize this feature was still in the game. I tried moving some objects into another room to steal them like I have in every other Bethesda game and then got a bounty for it, so I never bothered moving an item ever again.
“Must have been the wind”
This got patched out from my understanding.
I think it was, because I tried it yesterday and it definitely did not work, lol. Had to use chameleon and some clever and quick timing, because that suspicious fuck kept following me around the store.
Nice! If only that didn't take 40 irl min to sell...
I am just glad someone tried... Thx for sharing...
Ah the old bucket trick
Whenever I try to move something, the NPCs react like I stole something and guards come in shooting.
Best thing I have seen all day. Honestly was having a shitty day til I saw this. Thanks! Hahaha.
I got you
Lmao the fact they make no effort to respond to A POT ON UR HEAD is hilarious
Holy shit how funny I’m on it!
How is this still a thing?????????
Polish lol
Uh how do I pick things up
How do you carry objects in the Xbox version? I can't figure it out
Great programming
This is wonderful
This is hilarious
How do you rotate picked up items?
Now if we could only assault them by hitting pot. Honest your honor, I was only shooting the pot on his head.
Aaah shit now I gotta play and pretend to still be working
I’m pleased this still works.
Ive tried this a few times with various buckets and pots, and have yet to have it work. Ill have to find me a cooking pot next
I tried this when I started and it didn't work at all, he would get up with the pot on his head and come after me. I ended up making him chase me to the back and locked the door instead.
Turning on the PC just for this …….
That’s awesome, you can steal it all without doing this, but it took me a lot lot longer.
When is it my turn to post this?
Does it have to be a cooking pot? Because I tried this yesterday with the trash can that is in his shop and it did NOT work at all.
This has always been a thing in Bethesda games. Glad to see the tradition live on.
Weird. I tried doing that already in my first hour when reaching New Atlantis, but I couldn't make the bucket stay properly, it would always fall. Never struggled in Skyrim... I waited for him to sit back in the room, then I crouched and stole the minigun undetected.
Wait, you can rotate objects when holding them?
Can u do This for Xbox/x ??? I need this
no way Skyrim is back
Everyone always makes this stuff look so easy, but I find trying to carry items horribly difficult to control/orient correctly. Like I’m playing Octodad.
It’s the pot heads that make this game great
Out of sight out of mind
The other funny one is scooping the credits in the Redmile from the tables to a basket with a dinner plate. I accidentally clicked and stole a fork though and all hell broke loose. Andreja was not happy one bit.
How did it work for him? I’ve literally tried this exact thing with that guy because it’s a Bethesda classic and he loses his shit the moment you grab a pot?
....wow, the bucket never ceases to amaze.
Vision impaired while under the influence of pot 😉
Gonna put a pot in my inventory for ng+2. Every shipowner will feel my wrath!
u/savevideo
i spit out my coffee lmfao
Haven’t figured out how to pick stuff up like this on Console.
brilliant & hilarious
That was hilarious.
Hahah, favorite unlock in starfield so far
**Cooking pot** Stats: - Weight: 0.7 - Value: ~~8 credits~~ Unlimited
🤣🤣🤣 this is fucking genius and I'm totally trying it when I get home today
Whoa how do you rotate items?!
Can anyone tell me the song playing I recognise it it but can't remember
wtf... are they playing on like 10% sensitivity???
I tried this and he would get up and the pot would just fly off his head.
Oh, man, I’m doing this as soon as I fire up Starfield.
I know what I'm doing when I get home!
Oh my... I ever thought about this! How do you rotate stuff? I've never even tried
Work smarter? Seems very much like stealing to me and somebody else is doing the working part...
How do you pick up the cooking pot
I’m sorry what?!! You can rotate items???!
u/savevideo
Omfg this is "shooting coffee out my nose" level hilarious!
Fucking potheads
ain't bug, a fiches
Yeah, this is how you know it’s a Bethesda game
I moved a pot once.. that was 40 years ago I've been in UC prison ever since
I love this
I stole everything simply thanks to objects on his desk, I just had to find the right angle while sneaking. Even though he was looking in my direction, I wasn't detected, really comical.
That’s me carrying cooking pots at all times from now.
😂😂😂😂😂 Omg this is fucking fantastic!
How do you do that...asking for a friend...
Right before you run out, you gotta shoot a pot on his head
I'm sure it's a fan service that they still let you do this, I wouldn't be surprised if this is why it was even a prop in the first place.
I LOL’d when the music started
I got a bounty for doing something similar
That’s freaking awesome lol 😂, the maxed stealth looting build
I thought they “fixed” this in Starfield. I remember seeing posts about it. Also that look he gave you just before you dropped the pot. That mfer knew what you were doing.
For the quest where you talk to some pompous scrapper about buying his artifact, coupe you just carry a pot like this with you and use it on him when hes just standing there staring at the artifact lol. I wanna try this
What is this place?
I don’t understand the relationship between stealing and getting caught in this game. I’ve accidentally “stolen” a random item from a table on a mission with no one else in the room to see me take the item but as soon as I picked it up alarms went off and I was immediately arrested.
Unlimited Power!!! seriously tried everything bar...… this. Ok I'm going to abuse this before it get patched.
Skyrim in Space
Where is that? I may have to pay a visit tonight.
Ummmmmm, how do you place objects you've picked up instead of them always just falling on the floor. Asking for a friend.
oh shit, I can rob a bank this way ?
Where is this room?
How do you rotate an object that you’re holding?
Where is this?
I shall now be using or finding the nearest cooking pot I can find
The huge pillar near the entrance, and the fact that my man barely ever leaves his chair, made looting the whole shop so easy the bucket wasn’t even required
How do you rotate the item you're holding?
Classic Bethesda. It just works.
I mean, it IS a Bethesda RPG after all
Ok wait wait wait. How do we rotate shit?
