Man don’t think of it as an inferior non-OLED. It’s just LCD. And that’s a killer of a deal, nice.

HotBananaWaters

Same here. I bought this device under the impression that I want to play older PC titles on the go whenever I want at 30FPS. Then I was hit hard when I started to test out more games. The fact that I can play older titles that were demanding 10 years ago at 60FPS is a game changer for me especially in handheld form.

OmegaKatana92

It still blows my mind today that I can AAA game on the go some on full speed while ten years ago or so you had to get a gaming rig back in the late 00s or mid 2010s,

Thebeav111

Get Rotwood! Came out yesterday, made specifically for the deck! It has a sound setting named "Steamdeck" lol. CO op rogue like expedition game! Meta progression! $10! Me and my brother were up till 4am playing lmao, I just got him a deck for his 40th on the 16th.

What-Even-Is-That

Still love my LCD Deck as much as when I first got it. The release of the OLED had no effect on how happy I am with my purchase. Still the best gaming purchase I've made in years. I'll upgrade when it's time, and there's an even newer Deck out.

blusrus

I wish I was like that. As soon as the OLED was announced my LCD was sold days later for it

Beastw1ck

Yeah it’s like 1/3 of what I paid for the OLED. Solid win.

Bynnh0j

I just wish the LCD version had wake with Bluetooth. I don't care about any of the other upgrades.

SnooDoughnuts5632

I don't know if I got a bad unit or what but the LCD screen with all the light bleed all over the place is way worse than a regular LCD screen

Beltalowdamon

True, the LCD won't get burn in too so it's more futureproof

Thebeav111

The burn in is after 1,500 hours of the same image on the screen so far in testing (at max brightness the entire time), there's no way it will appear in general use. Personally I prefer the OLED for the WIFI6e, the 2ms latency from WIFI 6e vs the 30ms+ latency from WIFI 5 or WIFI 6 was a game changer for streaming from my 3080ti equipped comp via Moonlight.

Beltalowdamon

Well yeah you get what you pay for

solid_trent

The steam deck is the indirect cause of your happiness. It's because you're playing Max Payne 3. Nice choice.

mlvisby

I gotta try 2 and 3. Don't know why I never did as I played the first one and loved it.

kaden-99

1-2 would be rough with no auto-aim on Deck.

mlvisby

The touchpads help with aiming. I was playing Half-Life 2 and having issues aiming with the sticks but if you do large movements with the sticks, it's really easy to refine the aim with the touchpads.

RedRageXXIV

You could also get a little BT Mouse.

solid_trent

2 hasn't aged as nicely as 3 but it is for sure one of the best games of all time. Best enjoyed with a mouse and keyboard in my opinion.

bannock4ever

I can't believe Max Payne 3 was release in 2012. 2012?! It's 12 years old.

Subkratos

They are all great. 1 is my least favorite because of the horror platforming sections. If they were easier or removed, game is great.

DavidinCT

Great game, no question... Not the best Max Payne but, for the game it was, it was a good one...

SubterraneanSmoothie

A secondhand LCD steam deck after the OLED launched is the deal of the century.

zachthehax

I paid $350 for a 512 model and I thought that was a good deal lmao

thatpoindexter

That's hands-down the best deal you can get on the Steam Deck. I did the same thing.

FantasyShad0w

Out of curiosity, how much is the internal storage?

HotBananaWaters

64GB Model - I purchased a 512GB Samsung SD Card for $30 on Amazon few days later when I bought this over last weekend.

Link2999

If you decide to upgrade the SSD, just remember to remove your SD card first.

[deleted]

Luckily it was the first thing I did before even buying a SD card. Unfortunately, because it was the very first thing I did, I couldn't claim the digital rewards upon login. It doesn't verify the installation (I'm guessing because difference in internal memory).

Thebeav111

That's bull crap I'd contact support imo, they can prolly give you a few codes to put in.

FantasyShad0w

Yep, you definitely got a good deal. Happy gaming! 🤘

OmegaKatana92

I bought the 64 gb a while back and a 1tb micro sd then a accouple of months later I obtained a 1tb ssd and installed it into my steam deck one of the best decisions of my life.

DavidinCT

I was one who waited a year to get the deck(64gb), ordered it one day after pre-orders. I had a 1tb 2230 in hand 4 months before I even had the deck, I was ready to go..

What-Even-Is-That

Good choice. I've got the 256, but still opted for a high capacity SD card to go with. It's been great. I'll upgrade to an SSD eventually, but have had no reason to yet.

drk0

What a game to start off with, enjoy! And then you can try Arkham Knight, both runs like butter

Terrible-Royal106

For $230?? That's a good deal! How much storage is in this one?

HotBananaWaters

64GB, but I spent another $30 to add a 512GB Samsung SD card. Still a great value imo for sure!

Terrible-Royal106

Niceeee! Hopefully that should be more than enough for whatever amount of games you wanna run on it

l1lpiggy

For $30, you can upgrade the internal storage too. You don't have to get the fastest SSD. Any SSD will be better than 64GB eMMC. [https://www.ebay.com/itm/375296723899?itmmeta=01HWBAVQ67VMW5F9CC1Z5AJNSR](https://www.ebay.com/itm/375296723899?itmmeta=01HWBAVQ67VMW5F9CC1Z5AJNSR)

DavidinCT

Although that is a good deal for the drive, no question the 1 or 2tb is the best bang for the buck as it's a lot of storage...

SpacePumpkie

Best bang for buck in 2230 SSD drives is 1tb currently. 2TB is too expensive and 512G go for a bit more $/GB. anything less than 512 is not even worth to think about

DavidinCT

2tb too expensive? LOL. AliExpress had the WD 2tb 2230 on sale for $92. I picked one up for $97 shipped. It's perfect, I have a spare 1tb 2230 drive now....

SpacePumpkie

I'm sorry to tell you, but if you bought a WD 2Tb 2230 SSD for 92$, it wasn't a legit WD drive... 90-120$ it's where the legit brands 1tb 2230 drives are at currently. The 2tb legit ones go from 180-210$. Particularly on AliExpress, which is full of counterfeit fake crap. If a deal is too good to be true, it's 99% probability not true, more so on AliExpress. Either you got a 1tb drive hacked to show 2tb but it will randomly start writing over old stuff once you go over capacity, or you got some no name brand with a fake WD sticker on top and who knows how long it'll last. Hopefully it's the second, because at least that way you get to use it properly until it fails. I really recommend you to do a good test on the drive, fill it completely with data and then read all of it to verify you have all the data you put on it, and also check with WD website that the serial number the drive reports is legit, that the firmware is good, etc.

DavidinCT

First of all, not worried about AliExpress, if there is an issue, I report it, I will get a full refund (this item I would have to return). I have had issues on there before and I was taken care of on it. It is a legit drive; it has been verified. I have done tests on it and speed tests, confirmed all space is usable. Others got in on this deal and did tests as well. It's WD SN740 drive. It's even faster than the 1tb drive I had/have... This is the exact one I ordered. It was $99.99 last week, if you watch this item, you can get a good deal. [Western Digital WD SN740 2TB M.2 SSD 2230 NVMe PCIe Gen 4x4 SSD for Microsoft Surface ProX Surface Laptop 3 Steam Deck (aliexpress.us)](https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805699066828.html) Look at the reviews on it. They have been having sales on these drives. It was a special deal that is going on over there. I am tempted to buy another to upgrade my Series X from 1tb to 2tb.... I put 1.2tb for SteamOS and put 725gb for Windows. Windows reports over 3500MB/s Under $100 for a 2tb 2230 drive is a smoking deal.

SpacePumpkie

If you've been able to verify it's the drive advertised, then it's great. That's definitely a great deal you got. But as you said, it's a smoking deal. It's still not something easy to get, so it's not a price you can rely on to advise others, since it Will be difficult for them to find that price

DavidinCT

Yea, no question great deal, When I got Deck (I was one who waited 1 year and 1 day to get it), the 1tb cost me $127. To have the 2tb to cost me $20 less, no question it was a epic deal.

Spimbi

The internal storage is super easy to upgrade too. You can get a 512gb NVME SSD for about $50-$60 nowadays.

marbleyarncake

Ohh what case is that you’re using? It looks super comfy

_Limp_Cricket

It looks like the Skull & Co. case. It’s super comfy and still fits in the og case

Baconstrip01

The steam deck is surprisingly resilient to wear and tear in my experience. I do take care of mine, but even my well played LCD model felt brand new for the entire duration I had it!

Senhor_Asnep

That’s an amazing price, even for one LCD model

Trenchbroom

How long did it take them to ship yours? I ordered a refurb 512GB model almost a week ago and it is still in the "packaged items" phase.

plausiblepeanuts

Same here. Ordered on Sunday, been sitting in packaged items since Monday...

Trenchbroom

Just got my shipping notice a few hours ago (no arrival date yet) so hopefully yours is pending.

plausiblepeanuts

Just got mine as well, delivery set for Tuesday! Crazy it sat that long ready for pick up.

Rspears1998

Damn that's crazy, I got a 64 gb and installed a 1tb ssd for around $380 total.

Overall-Article-6129

With the best 3rd Person Shooter ever made 😎

codynorthwest

I haven’t even touched my PS5 since I got my 512gb LCD for $250 a few months ago. I absolutely adore it.

JaceKagamine

$230? Lucky, got mine for around $320 2nd hand

LS_DOPES

Try the tomb raider series the newer version .💯

kerrwashere

Use this to fix most issues for that game. [https://github.com/ThirteenAG/MaxPayne3.FusionFix](https://github.com/ThirteenAG/MaxPayne3.FusionFix)

solid_trent

Just curious what reason you are suggesting this? Maybe I should install it. I just haven't had any issues playing this on deck. Runs like a dream for me even while messing with openiv modding. I did install fusion fix on GTA 4 so I could get the old radio restored.

kerrwashere

Go try to play the offline co-op mode “dead man walking” in multiplayer on Hoboken it’s horde based multiplayer but can be played on your own offline. Doesn’t work for the game because someone hacked a high score on the leaderboard and the variable is so high it crashes the game for literally everyone who owns the game. This fixes that and also allows you to skip the initial loading screens and other things as well

solid_trent

Cool thanks.

loanme20

its really hard to recommend anyone spending more on this gen with or without OLED.

CommunicationAway387

Max Payne and max happiness at the same time!

DemiDivine

Either way, a steam deck is a steam deck. Both are amazing.

Nomo71294

To those who have used both lcd and oled: In terms of performance how different is it?

Ok-Wrongdoer-4399

The same

nevercopter

That's a steal. And yeah, forget about OLED, it doesn't matter.

Colonel-Ace

Congrats on the new deck, only downside of buying it from gamestop is steam won't cover anything warranty related. Not trying to discourage you just letting you know its somethingi see mentioned on facebook groups and reddit if an issue does occur, hopefully gs offered some kind of protection plan.

atown49

Good deal have fun I love the steak deck best choice hands down

EggNCh33se

SMELL THE VENTS! 🤪

OmegaKatana92

I paid for the 64 gb ssd standard verison full price and I personally enjoyed it it was one of the best purchases that I have every made for my life. Orginally I bought the device for emulation but it also does a lot of more stuff to the point it blows my mind!

[deleted]

To be honest, whilst OLED is incredible nice, I do think the concept is a little oversold personally. I don't have an OLED Steam Deck, but I have OLED devices. My phone being a Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 120Hz, HDR10+, 1200 nits (HBM), 1750 nits. And honestly? My eyes can easily readjust back and forth from my older LCD phones and this one within minutes. Once I'm lost into a game or movie, the OLED part begins to melt away and not really matter. So I think it's something I can take it or leave it. I'll happily welcome OLED on a Steam Deck 2. But I certainly wouldn't upgrade from mine just for the OLED alone.

SpacePumpkie

> Once I'm lost into a game or movie, the OLED part begins to melt away and not really matter. I totally get what you say, and I agree 100%. However, just to nitpick, it's easy to forget that the OLED includes a lot more changes along with the OLED display, even if the display is the main selling point and the differentiating name. I went from a 64 LCD (upgraded to 1TB SSD) to an OLED 1TB and for me it was the mix of all the factors what made me make the choice, not just that it was an OLED display, but the whole mix of larger display, higher frequency, better battery, faster RAM, improved APU, and more brightness range, etc. At the end of the day, I know that if I had kept my LCD, Id be as happy as on day 1 with it. Because once you're immersed in the games, you forget about everything else. But when I look at vibrant games, or I'm playing in bed at night next to the wife and can set it far dimmer than what I could before, i notice the difference. But when I think that an official refurb 64 LCD+an SSD it's under half of the 1TB OLED that I bought, there's definitely no better use of your money than that. PS: Also, one very minor thing that is not very important but I notice a lot, it's how the new joysticks are far more comfortable and "feel nicer" than on the LCD

Soulses

I bought my Lcd on release for the same price as an oled with more everything 🙂

Subkratos

I love my GameStop refurbished too!

yourname09

lcd gang represent

Intensional

Any Steam Deck is better than no Steam Deck. I got my original 512GB Deck in one of the first batches that was shipped out. I loved that thing dearly and really only upgraded to the 1TB LE OLED because my son wanted my original Steam Deck. I personally really love the new OLED display, but would still be perfectly happy with my LED if I hadn't upgraded.

aExpat3

I'm rocking the OG 512gb, I have a high end rig and LGC1 65 120hz at home. They pair nicely and aside from games that don't have cloud support (my literal only complaint) this device is the best value for the money imo. Only other thing that's such a good value is the Xbox Series S. My wife liked the Steam Deck so much I got her one last year and now my son is always asking to play mine. Thinking about giving him this one and jumping to the cheapest OLED and throwing a 2TB 2230 in there. Even though there are better performing handhelds on the market right now, the Deck cohesive UI/UX, low power performance and native integration with Steam is just fantastic.

Lottoproblemz

1000 games and all I need is sonic adventure, baby! 🌭

Slightly-Blasted

Great deal! I got a 256Gb refurb for a little bit more really happy with it. I swapped the joysticks to Hall effect and got a backplate, really awesome. It’s hard to justify an OLED for 300$ more, When they play the exact same games. I think at this point a steam deck 2 is all but confirmed with how successful they’ve been. I’m waiting for the next model before I spend 500$+

kio1500

Really wish I would have gone with that color shell from Skull and Co

Moontzypher

One of the best devices i have ever purchased. Welcome to the club!

Bootychomper23

Heck yeah. I’ve had or used most the handhelds and because of the OS deck is by far my favourite. Feels much more like a console and the suspend play works much better then sleep on windows handhelds. Been playing the hell out of grounded and fallout 4 on my OLED deck and having a blast.

FISHYMASTER69420

Damn I payed 314€ for mine (456 gb storage)

SpacePumpkie

Dude, that's also a killer deal!

theguywhocantdance

Can I ask what game is that? Thanks.

rockenren

Max Payne 3.

theguywhocantdance

Thanks!

darrylwoodsjr

You stole that, I paid 300 for a 256 and last year and still feel like I made out like a bandit.

anhhuy2502

sheesh that’s an even better deal than what I scored off of FB market, congrats mate! Mine came pre-upgraded with a 256gb storage so ig we’re all winners here 😁

Tmcquaid1996

Enjoy! It's amazing, I purchased a refurbished one as soon as the OLED got announced I have no regrets. With the money I saved I just bought more games!

Gaming4L1F3

Great purchase, have fun with it, this is an amazing device!

farguc

Bro thats a deal and a half.

PresidentBush666

Almost half off! I got mine day one and I play it more than ever. I'm thinking of getting an anti glare screen protector for roadtrips

Oxygenius_

Steal! And here I am still playing on my Nintendo switch 😭

RedRageXXIV

I always liked my "regular" Deck.

Successful-Divide-37

Congrats , I’m also tempted to get it at that price but I’ve seen some reviews about the some stuttering on certain games because of the 60hz display. Have you noticed anything like it? I guess it’s game dependent but they did mention GTA5 as an example.

SHAD0WDEM0N654

The LCD isn’t worse than the OLED pal there both just different varients if one device kinda like iPhone 15 or 15 pro or 15 pro max they all have a slight advantage over the other but there is nothing wrong with the base model, and congrats on the price, amazing to get one at the price, my local pawnbrokers (CashConverters) are always selling LCD for around £200-£300

Orange-Fish1980

How did you get that for 230?
