-Deathstalker-

It hasnt :D

jordanrice26

Yeah it’s only caused me to more games😂

cavemenrefract

Which I don't play 😅

ImAlekBan

Same

Sad_Society3633

Haha was about to post something similar. Except my comment is more like I'm actually about to go bankrupt 💀

Sad_Society3633

I mean it's the all year round sale events. At first it's like it's only 5 (whatever currency you use) then you add 6 more of similarly priced games to your basket. Those Valve guys are pretty sneaky clever bastards I swear lmfao

-Deathstalker-

Oh yeah, thats me atm, just opening steam - great on deck category - and browse for all those juicy discounts - I mean its saving by spending but still spending

Sad_Society3633

Haha you said ATM not just "at the moment" but an ATM is what we are to Valve right now 😁

Dr_Kevorkian_

Agree, the amount of money I am going to spend is the same. I’m just enjoying more games. This is great.

masjls2013

Same fam.

ubernoobnth

Pretty much this.  It hasn't changed anything except I have a handheld pc for travel now if I want it.

SnowMantra

This is the only correct answer

HauptmannTinus

It has not really saved me money but it's a worthy purchase, nice to have a handheld again. Last one was gameboy advance sp. I just use my already existing steam library and can play at work (when it's quiet) on the couch or outside instead of sitting behind a desk. Maybe saved some costs on power compared to the desktop.

AshleyUncia

For me this was the winning thing about the Deck. I was already a PC game, all my games were on PC, so the Steam Deck was a handheld with a 'built in' library.

KRONGOR

Same boat here, I was considering getting a switch but having access to my already existing library is what really pushed me to get the steam deck

eggbunni

Oh man. The SP was one of my favorite systems. It was so cute. I miss it. 😭

HauptmannTinus

I still have it and it works haha, i just enjoy the old games on the steam deck more because bigger screen and different controls :). Edit: i even have my first hand held btw and that is also in working condition, gameboy pocket with pokemon red, good memories :D.

eggbunni

The bigger screen for Gameboy games can’t be beat. It’s sooo nice. I just miss putting stickers and charm all over my Gameboy. 🥲 Seems out of place on the Deck for some reason.

Daxzero0

At night when I’m half-watching Netflix etc I reach for my Deck instead of going and buying snacks I don’t need. Legit saved heaps hah.

well_uh_yeah

And probably some health benefits.

AddendumDesigner7032

uh well yeah

eggbunni

Another way I’ve saved money: My Deck keeps me from surfing social media where I’m often lured into wanting things I don’t need and are too easy to buy online. I’m occupied, so my dopamine fix comes from somewhere other than Add To Cart. 👍

laurentiubuica

Since getting my Steam Deck at the end of March I spent 20€ on Forza Horizon 4, 30 on Forza Horizon 5, 10€ on Halo The Master Chief Collection and 9€ on Stardew Valley. Just glad that I sold my Switch cuz I felt like Nintendo was taking advantage of my pocket by asking those stupidly high prices for every Mario game and remaster.

eggbunni

I’m pretty upset at Nintendo too, tbh. Nothing feels new anymore on there. And I can only play so many Mario games before everything feels samey and overdone. 😭 I’m mad I already have Hogwarts Legacy for Nintendo because I WISH I had it on Deck instead!! I never even touch my Switch anymore!! Btw, unrelated, but how are the Forza games? I’ve been looking at them. Which do you recommend?

laurentiubuica

Hell, man. I don't even know. I enjoyed playing them both, because that's the main reason I wanted to get a Steam Deck (play the Forza games and my long forgotten backlog of steam games). I definitely like the FH4 British map, with the huge highway and hilly countryside but i feel like FH5 with the Mexico setting is much more vibrant in terms of colours and scenery even if they don't have huge urban area like FH4. Although I find it's easier to beat Drivatars in Festival Playlist challenges in 4 than in 5, but I kinda enjoy playing both of them. Progression is easy in both games and you can get the cars just by playing the game. No need for stupid grind like other Live service titles. In comparison, The Crew Motorfest is a bad Horizon copy (and to get the best cars you have to grind the Legend tiers and Weekly Summits). Can't wait for Horizon 6 to be honest. Also: you need to tinker a bit with Horizon 5 because it sometimes crashes on SD.

eggbunni

Oh no. I’m sure someone’s posted their settings here in the sub. I’ll look for it if I get it.

laurentiubuica

You can also get Decky Loader installed on Steam Deck and search for a plugin called Deck Settings. It will see what games you have installed on SteamDeck and give you suggestions about what other people have used for settings.

LimeyOtoko

I think Forza Horizon 5 is the best Forza. It has some great set pieces.

Sad_Society3633

Not only that but games available on both platforms Steam and Nintendo look like vaseline smeared garbage on the later

Hugglemorris

I used to rebuy games just to have a portable version.

Texas1010

Having just a single Steam game that you can play on either platform, and seamlessly move from one to the other via cloud syncing, is such a nice experience.

ZypherPunk

It's probably made me spend more lol

Working_Doubles

Saved me around $300+ recently. Was going to buy a modded GameCube and upscaller. Instead, setup EmuDeck and downloaded the complete GC library. Hooked the deck to my TV, synced one of my PS5 controllers and everything works flawlessly without any input lag.  Even rumble on the controller works perfectly.

ZypherPunk

Yeah that's awesome. I just buy more games now is all lol

TotallyBrandNewName

I started with a romhack for pokemon fire red and Most likely will start play other romhacks such as uranium or normal games I wouldnt care about like the pokemon with giritina as the cover art. Also ps2 games, gotta remember how to find them bios bc so many good games I wanna replay so hard

Zes_Q

Highly recommend Pokemon Unbound. I've played every mainline Pokemon game since Red/Blue when I was 5, and have been playing ROM Hacks since the early 2000s. Played a lot of fun and kinda different ones but none have impressed/hooked me as much as Unbound did. It just oozes quality and passion. It uses the CFRU engine (Complete Fire Red Upgrade) which incorporates a ton of quality of life features into the Gen 3 base games. Another personal favourite is Liquid Crystal which is basically just a remake of Crystal in GBA format.

readitonreddit86

Is your next post going to be “How has having kids saved you money? Ill start, I don’t get to go to the bar anymore”

Dreamforger

Cause all the bar money goes to the kids... having kids ain't cheap xD

readitonreddit86

Preaching to the choir. Clearly sarcasm lol.

LazyandRich

I rebuy games I own on other consoles on the steam deck to save me money! Wait…

eggbunni

😂 This is one area I mess up too. The amount of times I rebuy Witcher 3 because it’s always on sale… Sigh.

Coldhitsallday

Mine hasn't saved me any I've spent more on games than I ever had. The portability is nice though I get to play good games at work instead of ad filled cell phone games after my task are complete.

eggbunni

The ads. The ADS. 😐

candymannequin

well, now instead of a social life i just play games. so no food bills

BrutalBarracuda

I dont have to own every console anymore. I love emulating on the Deck.

eggbunni

Right? The only reason I’d buy a retro console now is for nostalgia. I’d love a Gameboy SP. But then, I’ve already sold all my cartridges, so… it’d just be pretty. 😭

DGuz03

It saved me money by letting me sail the seas with Nintendo games 😂😂

tavaryn_t

🫡🏴‍☠️

HG21Reaper

Yo ho ho!

MtGDad86

I play nothing but civ vi….so I don’t have to worry about spending money on other games….

eggbunni

How is it on Deck?

MtGDad86

It is fantastic. I went from xbox1 to switch to deck. It is all I play really

Glad-Cantaloupe-7035

By no longer keeping me reliant on the Nintendo e-shop where games are more expensive AND go on sale less. For example I got persona 5 Royal on sale for about $20...that would never happen on the e-shop. Also emulating Nintendo exclusives for $0 lol.

Ryswizzle

I think there’s an element of stimulating my mind when I’m just sat on the sofa etc, so I don’t browse my phone and waste my money on shit lol. It’s also the fact that there are multiple sites and key sellers etc to get some absolute bargains. I know some aren’t legit but hey, not my problem 🤣. The steam deck for me is one of the best things I’ve ever bought!

eggbunni

I feel this way too. I used to spend my downtime surfing social media and getting suckered into buying more nonsense I really don’t need. Now I’m actually playing games from my massive Steam Library I’ve accrued over years and years instead of wanting new stuff. It’s such a personally satisfying feeling not being a shopaholic anymore.

qwertyalp1020

I sold my gaming laptop last year for a direct drive wheel setup. It was worth it, but after starting a new job, just having a desktop PC at home wasn't cutting it anymore. So, last week, a friend of mine who was looking to sell his 64 GB Steam Deck with two 512 GB sdcards, a travel case, and a case with a kickstand, offered it to me for just 300 euros. He had only used it for about two weeks. It was a steal since they usually sell for around 700 euros, and even second-hand ones go for at least 500 euros.

eggbunni

300 with accessories and upgrades, wow! I’m shocked he didn’t use it more?! What stopped him? That’s a steal!

qwertyalp1020

Yes, he was quite busy with his job and did not have time to play games. Also, he needed money. So I actually did him a favor, haha.

Samantha_pear

Bit of a niche one. I now have a dedicated system for gaming (steamdeck) and a dedicated system for my work as a video editor (M1 Mac Mini) The cost of getting this little refurbished mac plus the steamdeck was waaaaaay less than building a gaming machine that can also handle video editing. Sure if I bought the mac new, it would be more expensive but these m1 mac minis are going for bargains right now and are insanely capable machines.

eggbunni

Does the M1 Mac Mini handle 4K editing pretty easily??

Samantha_pear

I've had no issues so far. I would definitely go for the upgraded ram version though.

Wonderful-Army-6308

The price of steam games are about half a normal console game. Thats how I’ve saved money

kram1973

Steam sales on games are a lot more frequent and deeper discounts on more current games that I ever found to be true with console games

eggbunni

This is so true.

Crovax87

I'd say it hasn't saved me money persay but allowed me to actually play the games I bought on sale. I tend to only play 1 game on my real desktop so when wanna game anywhere but my pc I play those forgotten ones.

soakingsocket

It has taken all my money and made me sleep on the couch

Bootychomper23

I can play better portable versions of games for significantly less then on switch.

MetalDeathMetal

I quit PC gaming for good. Component prices are out of this world.

eggbunni

Agreed.

fonduehike

Steam Deck is PC gaming.

MetalDeathMetal

U know what I mean, smart pants.

Texas1010

He obviously means desktop PC. While the SD is still a computer, it’s a much more console-like experience where you buy the platform for a comparatively low price and that’s all you need to game.

MrZrazies

I had lot games in steam and was planning to play them all but they keep releasing awesome new games. Damn it.

LordPotato18

Honestly I used to pirate games before (I never earned and my parents wouldn't buy me games). Getting the Steam deck with my own money only made me appreciate purchasing from the store, I haven't bought many games but it's definitely increasing slowly, and that's okay with me since I get to support the creators!

atown49

Games are always on sale and can play just about everything on steam on the deck. Haven’t spent a ton of money on games which is great 👍

LaxinPhilly

All I know is being able to play more mature games than my kids usually allow on our big screen has helped me keep my sanity. That and Bluey, praise be. So wallet? Not so much. Sanity? Loads.

eggbunni

Haha a Bluey fan?

shumsic

My other computer is a Mac, & the Steam Deck saved me from paying a monthly fee for Crossover just to play GTA V

HELT-1021

It stopped me from playing counter strike lol

hyperrainz

In my case, I almost purchased it with my own personal money until I checked my CSGO account that I never touched since 2017(was never that into it) yet I had about 600$ worth of skins/cases so got my LCD one for pretty much free about 2years ago. Since then I sold it and upgraded to the OLED without much lost.

Beneficial-Lake2704

No more subscriptions (coming from console) and quacked 😉

eggbunni

Yes! That’s a huge one! I don’t have to pay for my PlayStation Online or Nintendo sub anymore. 👏 Forgot about that!

Szotaku_

Emulation.

101TARD

My laptop broke in a way I can't play games anymore(it has 2 graphics cards a main, and a less powerfull secondary. Main broke so everything runs on the secondary) I could buy a new laptop or a steamdeck just for games. And chose that latter. Shame I can't play my usual mouse and keyboard games like ow2 or Valorant.

LeoGio12

It interrupted me buying a gaming PC/laptop! (I have a gaming laptop that needs to be upgraded, but this has scratched that itch above and beyond what I even have time for with two young kids)

HG21Reaper

It has made me play the backlog of games that I got. I have also modded and patched a lot of older games that I used to play a lot and turned them into brand new games.

__BIOHAZARD___

I have a massive backlog of games, and rarely buy any now because I actually play them on my Steam Deck!

damnimadeanaccount

I didn't even buy the SD because I figured I could and have been doing all these points you mention already on PC and laptop I already own. But also rocking hardware on the lower end I get the idea. There are really lots of things to do outside of the AAA-new-releases-bubble which are massive fun and basically free. Just some weeks ago I played some 1990 DOS game which I remembered because of a random talk with the kids about what I played when I was young and really had fun finally beating this game.

Hyperdragoon17

Don’t need to go buy an extra controller, already have a USB 360 controller I use with my dock. Also discounts, 40ish dollars for 7 Yakuza games? Yes please! (0 is really fun btw)

eggbunni

This reminds me I have Yakuza in my library and really need to try it. But only after these Pokemon Rom patches. 😍

Jrumo

By stopping buying Indies and 3rd party games for Nintendo Switch 1 and the upcoming Switch 2. Stopped paying for Nintendo Switch Online and instead enjoying FREE online gaming, like how it used to be on the Wii U, PS3 and earlier.

DannyHikari

I probably spend more now that I have one lmaooo

VelmaSweet

I take my Deck and Kindle everywhere I go! Between them, I have more than enough to keep me busy.

eggbunni

Yeah this is my answer as well.

VelmaSweet

I was so tempted to get th OLED after it came out. I still fight the FOMO.

eggbunni

I am fortunate to have the OLED as my first model. I waited on the LCD because I was worried there would be bugs or people wouldn’t like it (since it was a first release model). The OLED is awesome. The screen is so nice! And you really don’t need the matte screen version — the glossy screen is so nice.

Darkesako

What’s the Pokemon rom games you would recommend?

eggbunni

You’ve GOTTA get Pokemon Team Rocket edition, and Pokemon Unbound. They’re amazing! I’m playing through Team Rocket right now and it’s so funny. You play as a Team Rocket grunt, and start off beating up little kids and old people and taking their Pokemon. 😂 It totally rewrites Pokemon Fire Red (for Gameboy Advance) and it’s so funny/adult. I played Pokemon Red for Gameboy Color when I was a kid, so these remakes patching Fire Red (the GBA version) make me all kinds of happy inside. And Unbound is like… just insane. Do a search for them real quick and you’ll see tons of info/screenshots etc.

LimeyOtoko

If you’re experienced with Pokémon, I can’t recommend Pokémon Radical Red enough!

eggbunni

Awesome I’ll check it out! 👏👏👏

doc_willis

I find games on "sale" for the switch at price $X, I look on The Steam Store and the same game is half the sale price on the switch.. $X/2  and that was the normal steam price.. Add in the free Amazon prime gaming games, (you ARE collecting those freebies?) and the Free epic games give aways I have added perhaps 30 games In  the last few months to my library.   Heroic games launcher lets you play those. the Nintendo Deals sub did not like me mentioning this Huge price gouging.

Suspicious-Dot8130

It stopped me from buying sneakers. I used to itch whenever i see a good sale or a colorway i want before. Now i just wait for sale and the cost of games doesnt cost half the sneakers i buy

qchto

It has made me buy a lot of microSDs and a couple verified games at full price.... So I think it hasn't really, but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside every time I press that power button.

ProtoKun7

Good one...I bought two. That said it helped me cancel my Nintendo Online given that I barely use it, and I haven't felt the need to buy games on Switch (excluding TOTK) when I can play PC games instead.

RedHeadSteve

Bought it instead of upgrading my laptop. Without gaming my laptop can do a couple more years.

Dirty_eel

I stay in my hotel room instead of drinking with coworkers on longer jobs.

EyeletGuy

I stopped buying switch games for 60$ and now I buy steam games for like 2$ Alice Madness Returns I just picked up for less than a cup of coffee and it's a banger. You'll never see these kids of deals through Nintendos eShop. Gave my switch to my little nephew a few days after my deck came in.

redbeard1643

Replaced my Xbox. Steam deals vs buying console games saves a room of money.

ArsRegia23

I rarely buy games anymore coz of emulation, and the Steam sales are really good so that's saved money, too.

eggbunni

Any fav ROMs? I’m playing Pokemon Team Rocket edition right now. So good/hilarious/evil.

ArsRegia23

Currently I'm grooving on Mario Tennis and Mario Golf. They emulate so well - I use an emulator called simple64. Mario Golf is great - but so hard! It looks all cute and Mario and stuff but if I were 10 years old or whatever playing this back in the day, I doubt I'd ever play another video game ha ha!

ChrisInBaltimore

How did you get mods working for Fallout 4? I’ve read it is tricky without a home PC.

eggbunni

Fallout 4 already has about a million mods in it from the Creation Club stuff — it’s all built in (Bethesda Official mods you can access from the menu!). But you can also use Mod Manager for Nexus stuff. Tbh though, Mod Manager is a little complicated and not all mods work that well, and the entire process required watching HELLA YOUTUBE VIDEOS and pausing, applying what the YouTuber said, unpausing to listen, then pausing again, applying, and repeating, to figure it out. It worked on a few of the mods for me, but eventually I got sick of stuff breaking and just deleted all the Nexus mods, then stuck with what I had from Bethesda. 😂

Benjammin5102

Two words: Steam sales

a7xcold

Mine is saving me money by not having been delivered yet. Almost a month since I ordered it. 🥲

eggbunni

Oh jeez. Mine came so quickly. Sorry to hear that. Where are you based? I’m in California.

a7xcold

I'm in Ireland. I think their only location in Europe is The Netherlands. They had shipped one, but according to the tracking, it landed in the couriers depot and never left it. I assume someone snagged themselves a free steam deck. So they have sent out a second one to me. I think there's a location in California, that might be why you got yours quite quickly.

Texas1010

Steam Sales. It’s primarily why I’ve always PC gamed. I have no problem waiting a year or more for games to drop 90% in price. You’re still spending money, but far less in comparison to say Nintendo that still charged the full $60 for games that are like 5-7+ years old.

ExternalLibrary

I am not used to the Linux base os on the steam deck so when transferring new games from my windows pc to the steam deck I have some issues, however I enjoy a lot the fan made covers on the emulators I got. Is it too difficult to play humble bundle or epic store games on the steam deck?

eggbunni

Not at all! And you can just watch a Youtube video for tutorials. :)

TareXmd

Save money? I just got my post-Deck Steam spending under control. The only thing that will kick it back into high gear is if Valve releases a microconsole for AAA RT/VR gaming or something...

SacriGrape

I mean less saved and more made. It’s my main desktop and I’ve been doing programming commissions which have covered the cost of the entire steam deck

Flashy_Zebra7849

The Steam Family Library update just gave me about 900 games (my brother has been purchasing games for about 15 years, his collection is now my collection. I, the fledgling Steam-user, am definitely benefiting the most from this arrangement.)

trashpix

I have a young person who I care about and they asked me for a Nintendo Switch. They'd been doing most of their gaming on an iPad and had a couple of Steam games on an old laptop. I looked into it and explained that Switch games at $40-50 each meant that they wouldn't be able to afford many games like they'd done on the iPad at $5-10/game. Then I learned about the Steam deck and how you can hook it up to a TV with a $17 dongle and there was a vast selection of games at much lower price points. So I got a Steam Deck for my young person about 2 years ago. They love it. They hook it up to the TV with multiple controllers (wired and Bluetooth) when they want to game with friends and they bring the kit to friends houses to play. They watch for game discounts and use the 3rd party stores to get games cheaper. This young person rates the Steam Deck a "9.5, maybe more, out of 10, but not less"

Large-Brother-4291

Embarrassed to admit this but when I first got a Steam account forever ago the idea of all these “up to 90% off” sales was so exciting that if a game looked even mildly interesting I’d buy it. Racked up a Steam library of 364 now and only played maybe 40 of them. Lol I’ll still pick up a game that looks interesting now that’s under $5 or that I’ve been wanting to play (Ghost of Tsushima) but since I’ve had my Steam Deck I’ve been really into trying what games I have and seeing which ones work, which has done wonders for my wallet 😂

drklunk

Biggest money saver has been not going out but staying in and playing it

JaymehKhal

Saved a fortune via piracy.

SnooHobbies6547

Pirating

jackthed0g

A lot of games (jrpgs) available on switch are 30-60 bucks. Theres’s a huge collector’s market for physical switch games. Steam has frequent sales where you can get then like half the price, most of the time even less. It’s not limited to JRPGS either. For example I bought a couple Batman games that are expensive on switch & ps5 (again, due to collectors. Theres a whole subreddit for physical game collecting on ps5/ps4 and switch). Not only can I play games on the deck, I can also play them on PC. There’s also the added bonus that on both deck and pc you can mod games, receive the latest patches, download the game anytime I want. I’ve been using valve’s storefront/steam since inception and it has never disappointed. Back then it just hosted a couple games, half life and counter strike 1.6. I physically collect switch games bc historically, Nintendo has closed its eshop/equivalent on every platform, even going so far as to disable online multiplayer. ( Nintendo DS, 3DS.) I’m not caught up with multiplayer support on 3DS but I know pokemon multiplayer is shot. Not to mention, games like Tetris have a dead player base. I don’t expect eshop switch to survive. Maybe for a couple more years, who knows what Nintendo’s move is. TLDR- Steam storefront has discounted games which are otherwise more expensive on other platforms (namely Nintendo) and once you buy the game, you can always DL it again.

Economy-Bid-7005

I wouldn't say it's saved me money. It's a very expensive device on it's own then you start buying Micro SD Cards and Accessories. When I bought my deck I bought EVERYTHING at once lol. Because I know I'd enjoy the deck and I do. I travel alot for work so it's nice to have. In the end it's a very nice luxury to have and your paying for convenience. Your entire steam library on the go so it's a very nice device to have around and worth the money.

Ok-Diet-4831

$400 for a gaming console with everything you need to play games right out of the box (controller, monitor, speakers, etc.) that can play a fair amount of modern AAA titles is hard to beat cost-wise compared to a gaming laptop with similar performance. So in that sense, the Steam Deck saves you some serious dough and makes gaming WAY more accessible to those on a budget. But Valve’s strategy of getting me to buy more games via an SD definitely worked 😂

doobydubious

Name one other console where you already have a library of games the moment you buy the system?

eggbunni

Seriously. That alone was so awesome. Instant playability the moment it arrived on my doorstep.

thegratefuldoof

Neotokyo is a free to play Half-life 2 mod. I haven’t played tried playing it yet, but I know that the soundtrack is full of bangers!

eggbunni

I’ve never heard of this, but I’ve also never played HL2. That said, I do own HL2 (yay backlog), so it makes me curious to try. :O

CelestialSlayer

I don’t have to buy switch games for my 6 year old.

Picante-beefbaby

I can't say since it's against rule nr 5.

Kenja_Time

I was on vacation and my flight home got cancelled. I was able to boot into Windows and work remotely for 3 days, saving me a ton of money as I didnt have to burn vacation/take time off without pay.

themagicone222

With everything coming to console eventually, I literally have zero reason to buy an Xbox or ps5. My switch and steam deck are literally giving me EVERYTHING I want from gaming

kayint108

I stopped playing mobile gotcha games. Spending 50 a month. Looking at you Mech Arena.

BlueHeelerChemist

I would sometimes buy a handheld version of a game I already own on Steam, just so I can play it in bed or on my couch. But now I don’t have to!

AvalonONEmx

I was going to buy a PlayStation Portal... Not needed. I am able to stream from PS5 and Xbox X!

Tall_Pomegranate_434

Electricity costs. My electricity bill has gone down about 40-50 bucks a month since I got mine. I stream my PS5 to my SteamDeck. I barely turn on my TV anymore between my SteamDeck and watching shows/podcasts on my phone which is a huge power suck.

RareReveal4704

Made me switch to steam from console, with its deals idk if it saved me money or cost me more 😅

FrozenLogger

I travel some for work, often at a place months at a time. I quit carrying a laptop and I use the Steamdeck as a computer. Linux is easy and does everything I need, and for clients I remote into their windows machines. Conversely, I used to not be able to game out of town because I didn't want to carry a big giant gaming laptop that ate batteries and was too big to take out on the plane. Now I can game on the plane and at the destination. So no more gaming laptop, no more work laptop..... money saved!

ChanceFray

JRPGs suck up so much of my time I am finding it easier to talk myself out of expanding my buy but never play collection.

darkaluc

Well, thing is is cannot really resell any game I’ve bought like I usually do with my Nintendo switch, plus the upgrading to 512 OLED. But all in all it runs at at least 60fps most old games, which I can’t do it on my Nintendo switch

Emblazoned1

Yo ho yo ho.......

Embarrassed_Lake_376

Saved me money on my car insurance by switching to geico

Edyed787

I can not disclose this information becauSe one Of the major coNsole manufacturers might see mY response.

conradcervantes

I sub to both ad-supported versions of Hulu and Amazon Prime Video, so I use Firefox on desktop mode (uBlock Origin ftw) to skip ads and save me from having to upgrade my subs. Just blitzed through Fallout and the last three seasons of Sunny on my docked Deck.

OutRagedGaming

[isthereanydeal](https://isthereanydeal.com) exists for a reason

SeaworthinessDry2152

It has saved me money in a few ways. I triple-booted it with windows 11 pro and Ubuntu. I use it as my windows desktop (Mac user for normal stuff) and Linux desktop for research (physics simulations). Also for the off chance that I have time and want to play games, I can emulate any device I’d want or just play any native games on steam.

Beastw1ck

I think NET it’s cost me money BUT I used to have a desktop and worry about having the best fastest specs and now I couldn’t care less. I’m glad that my primary gaming machine is now a $600 piece of hardware instead of a $3,000 piece of hardware.

vemailangah

I stopped going out to drink once a week after buying BG3.

Rand0mBoyo

Not having to rebuy games I already bought on Steam and not having to pay for fucking online play in 2024 are definitely high on the list

AfzalMC

Hold up how are you reading free books on your kindle?

VanillaNyx

Libraries! You can borrow books and read them for free. I use Libby but depending upon where you live there might be a better one for you. https://help.libbyapp.com/en-us/6017.htm

eggbunni

This is the way. I use Libby!

AfzalMC

Unfortunately I see it only works for people in the US... I use Libby on my phone but I find with my phone I easily get distracted

eggbunni

Same. That's why I asked for a Kindle as a gift this last Christmas. It's been the best thing ever. I'm reading constantly and it feels great! :) I'm almost never on my phone anymore. At least not compared to how much I used it before.

geldonyetich

"oh, this game doesn't run well on deck... guess i'm not buying it"

RecognitionNo5205

It is wired but I installed windows 11 on my steam deck and when I tried to play Apex Legends under win11, I got instantly banned after I finished adjusting settings in the shooting range. I had just purchased my 4th heirloom days before that and I spent thousands of hours in that game. So it stopped me wasting my money and time on that trash game if you do agree it is kind of way it saved my money…

zirkwander

OLED being out of stock.

megas88

I have access to well over a decade’s worth of games in my library, some of which have been delisted for years that work perfectly fine (my god transformers devastation is so fuckin nice!) on the deck. As such, I haven’t needed to spend any money after buying it. Sure, I did pick up a couple things but Sonic frontiers was specifically a “do it to show how far we’ve come since my first 20 something inch 720p hd tv with almost more bezel than screen that I played my first hd game with Sonic generations on the 360.” At most, I’ve spent maybe $5-$10 on stuff like brotato and I cannot stress this enough, do not buy the arcade game series bundle with galaga, pacman and dig dug. You get exactly your $2 worth. The controls for settings are ass and bandai namco knows it but I refuse to pay the extra for the bigger modern collections. Slay the spire was a good purchase and it’s the most expensive out of all of them which puts me closer to $10 than $5 lol. But yeah, the deck is a console where I don’t need to spend any money on games because of the sheer number of games I already have that I had no idea were worth my time till I got the deck. Now, I play whenever I have free time. But I think what it saves me the most is with my iPhone. I am honestly very impressed with how well the deck works with my phone. Since getting my deck, my iPhone’s battery has never been better! Valve really should advertise this incredible feature more often ;p

Inspector7171

It cured me of getting the latest retro handheld console of the month for about a year! Payed for itself easy.

obFlimbo

Ok here’s one- I didn’t buy a PlayStation Portal because Chiaki has it covered. I did however upgrade to the OLED for the sake of HDR though so not sure the saving there counts 😝

Not going out on saturday thus saving 120 euro on cocaine.

SeppiFox

Electricity Bill. My PC plus monitors draws 680 Watts while gaming while the sd manages to get by with 15.

SweetTeaKillah

I collect retro video games. My steamdeck has made it possible for me to play some classics without having to purchase them. I will still buy them but I don't have to in order to play them. My deck also has saved me HOURS AND HOURS of boredom.

lajstan

Getting an OLED Deck made me get an OLED monitor and probably buy twice as many games on Steam than usual. So I think it’s ruined me if anything

Possible_Tea_5884

It’s caused me to spend more money. I buy games on sale. I convince myself it’ll be okay cus I will get to them eventually (I might not cus there’s always another game on my wishlist on sale)

TheGreatBillyBob

How did you mod fallout 4 and skyrim on the deck?

eggbunni

There are YouTube videos showing how, but there are also built in mods (Bethesda’s Creation Club) you can access from the in game main menu that let you enable Bethesda accepted mods!

Gamming_daddy

For me, so many more deals and events. Unless it’s an absolute banger I haven’t paid full price for any game on Steam I think the most I have spent is like 16 bucks for a game, I think it was Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, normally 40.

Due_Lobster_9096

Just before the start of this past semester my PC crapped out twice because my psu kept sucking dog hair and frying itself. After the second fail, i opted to just use windows on my deck since the application we had to download was windows only. Saved me money and my grades because i could take it to work for testing code or changes to my semester project. Still a hassle setting up but it was definitely worth it 🤣

pirate_bootsy

My primary platform before owning a steam deck was the switch, games are SO much cheaper on PC, I almost don't mind not having physical copies, plus I can emulate those like $60 wii u ports and stuff lmao, retro emulation is also great, I mean I can play a $200 GameCube game for free, in hd widescreen, on a handheld

ryanrudolf

It has saved me money no need for PS+ for online gaming. I mostly play SF on the PS before i got the SD. Had to pay for PS+ subscription to have online gaming. When I switched to SD I'm surprised i dont have to deal with monthly subscription so that alone has saved me money!

Dreamforger

I hate the trend of paying for being able to use a feature, like MP...

HatIndependent6272

I bought the special edition steam deck on release day and since then i think i have used the deck around 5hrs or so in my case it costed me money not saving lol impulse buy.

ExtrapolatedData

It’s made me realize I don’t have as much time to play as I’d like to, so I don’t buy as many games any more.

12Eerc

I don’t have any other hobbies except watching sports

Werdizer248

It's kinda hard to play non steam games You anyway should add this via non steam game to have steam imput and proton, then you pray for everything to work. Or do dualboot windows and anyway play via steam to have steam imput. Not a big of a deal but yeah

Minimum_Wonder_7710

None ways. Not a single cent has been saved.

mece66

I could use my gaming PC for sons racing sim instead of getting another gaming PC.

Mogsike

Man this sub treats the deck like it’s the second coming of Christ. It hasn’t saved me money, it was $500! But that’s okay—it’s an entertainment purchase that I wanted to make and it’s filled it’s role perfectly. It doesn’t need to save me money, change my life, “ruin gaming for me” or whatever else people like to heap on it. It’s a video game console!

eltiodelacabra

No need for my subscription to GeForce Now now

redhtbassplyr0311

Yea, nope. Mine has only cost me more money I wouldn't have spent if I didn't have a Steam Deck. So be it. I don't care and have to spend my money on something

amazingdrewh

I didn't buy a PS Portal to do remote play and instead just use the Deck to play my PS5
