Check out Abiotic Factor. It’s in early access but already has a ton of content (I put in 50 hours just with the current content). There’s also a road map for roughly double the content with the first one dropping this summer.
It’s survival crafting heavily inspired by the original half life. The art style is fun enough to not be scary so I don’t think that will be a problem for you.
You wouldn’t know it by looking at the screenshots but it’s the closest game I’ve played in terms of exploration and preparation to Subnautica.
