I don't know what age '7th grade' corresponds to, but I think I was about eight when I asked my parents what 'gay' meant. I had heard it being thrown around the playground as an insult, the '90s were like that.
My parents explained that it meant when two men or two women love each other the same way my mummy and daddy love each other. I remember thinking 'oh, that doesn't seem like a big deal at all' and just accepted it as part of how the world works.
The idea that children will be corrupted by teaching them that sometimes kids have two daddies is utterly laughable.
A good half of my family is extremely homophobic and to them they’d say that their point is proven by you and me not immediately feeling disgust and hatred at lgbtq+ people just for existing. They really believe that if you don’t find something wrong with it, then you’re already corrupted.

I remember people using the terms gay and lesbian in elementary, but I didn't know what those really meant until middle school. I thought gay = you like guys, lesbian = you like girls. So i would say I'm lesbian in elementary.

Kids learning that two dads or two moms can love each other is no more inappropriate than kids learning some people have a mom and a dad.
