I'm pretty certain that a fair portion of the posters here just eat like, unseasoned, boiled chicken. Maybe some peas & carrots, but mixing veggies like that might be a little wild for some. Some people seem to think that because you occasionally indulge in a food that's kind of over-the-top, that must be what you eat on a daily basis. See: all the people who screech "diabetes!!!" every time they see a crazy dessert.

I think for a lot of posters here they see unconventional food and instantly think that it's also stupid food. Yes, for most Jews the restrictions are just on chametz (wheat, barley, oats, spelt, and rye). Those are the only things forbidden in the Torah. Some Ashkenazi also don't eat anything that resembles grain. The thought being that one might eat chametz by accident. These are called kitniyot, literally legumes in Hebrew, but it also includes corn, beans, peas, mustard seeds, and a bunch of other stuff. There was a lot of debate over whether potatoes should be forbidden, but it was widely accepted that they're okay because they're a New World crop. Corn is also a New World crop, but it's not allowed because....reasons 🤷‍♀️.
