It's not stupid at all! There's a huge market for egg shapers and they're really popular in kids' lunches in Japan. We actually just bought a few because my kids like eggs but aren't huge on hard-boiled so I want to make them fun (because they're a perfect food for school lunches--good balance of protein and healthy fat).

There's a problem: For square eggs the eggs need to be soft boiled. For deviled eggs they need to be hardboiled.

Only thing I can see here is that you get even yolk to white ratio. Some hard eggs have their yolk to one side. A lot of effort for minimal change though...

I have my moms set of these from the 70's. We took the square eggs to a party one time and some people was amazed. We convinced someone that the local store could special order the square raw eggs. Had a good laugh when the store manager told us about someone asking to order the special square eggs.

I have one of these, my mother bought it like 30 years ago. If you want to make egg sandwiches you can just slice it easily into square slices. Much easier than cutting a regular shape egg.
