Dust may have accumulated in the lightning port

daviebrent

Though iPhone 15s don't have a a lightning port, they're USB-C only.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that instantly noticed this

I have a 19 forester and sometimes apple car play won’t work for my iPhone 15 either. Sometimes unplugging for a few seconds works, but other times I have to totally turn the car off and it will work once I restart the car. I had other Subaru with older iPhones and I would have trouble connecting to CarPlay when it would still charge the phone. New data cable would be the cure. Found that cables not rated for data wouldn’t work either to connect to CarPlay. Wish CarPlay would work via Bluetooth.

WaffleIronChef

I had issues from time to time with my iPhone 11 and it was so sporadic it was hard to figure out. I bought a new, higher quality cable and it’s been fine since. Definitely try a new usb-lighting cord.

CaptCheekClap

I have a 19 and mine hasn’t worked in two years. No matter what I do. I tried new cords, reset, nothing. It fails to download any updates too.

CalligrapherWinter19

Issues with the 24 and an iPhone 13max. Seems to only connect once I shut the engine off and back on. Really annoying!

mk2rocco

Same with my 2019

I would make sure you’re using a standard 1m/3ft cable, and since Apple doesn’t make a genuine USB-A to USB-C cable.. make sure you’re using a name brand cable. It’s weird that others seem to have so many problems. Our ‘23 Sport with the 8” HK upgrade has been flawless. I think only once it didn’t connect.

Limpykillski

Usually means you have to update the iPhone, then open maps or music and punch the disclaimer. Privacy stuff needs approval. Happened on my 2024 for the first month or so.

oldsuitcases

We have a 21 sport and just got new 15 pros. Had this problem as well using a USB A to USB C cord from Best Buy. Name brand but can’t remember. I switched to the Apple C to C cord that it came with and added a tiny C to A adapter. Works fine now. Really annoying that Apple sends the phones with USB C to C.

AtherisNai

This happened to me before. Using a genuine Apple cable will likely fix it. Also, make sure when you plug in the cable that your phone starts charging to make sure the connection is good. If you move the cable slightly one way or another in your iPhone, it could disconnect and your CarPlay will stop working.

stlayne

Sometimes I have to unplug the phone, wait a few seconds, and plug it in again. Sometimes I have to restart the radio by holding down the power button. Sometimes I have to restart the whole thing car and it works later. Not sure what the problem is, but it doesn’t happen often.

oxymora

20 Sport & using 15 pro max and mine works just fine. Whenever you’re having your next service, check to see if there is an update for your audio unit. May be able to update it yourself assuming your WiFi reaches it just fine. May also be time for a new quality USB type C cable.

ButtPlugsForDays

Hold down on the radio power button for 15+ seconds. Resets the head unit. Usually fixes it for me.

Low_Needleworker_939

I’ve had the same issue and would always restart my radio or car but if you just say Siri or hey Siri it should pop up. No idea how I ended up figured that out but it’s worked for me every time

KylesWifey

Ok so I literally just went through this with my 21 Forester. For some stupid reason there is not an ability to do updates on the car! You have to go to the dealership or get a drive sent to you to do it yourself (literally was told this at the dealership today) anyway they did an update and now it works perfectly. So I would suspect you need an update.

rrxel100

Sounds like the consensus is change the cable.

KylesWifey

Hey if that works than great! It didn’t for me and it didn’t matter what phone I used or which usb port. Good luck!

rrxel100

Did you try restarting the audio system?

KylesWifey

Yep! Restarted it, tried different phones/cords etc but then after a day of the car not recognizing any phones then the sound went out completely no radio, nothing. The update was the solution to it all.

UPDATE: I figured out the issue. OP and others, this may be whats happening to you. Essentially, Apple released an update to iOS 17.4.1. If you've updated your iPhone as you normally do (meaning updates via your phone), you likely have the older version. To check, go to Settings > General > About > iOS Version. If you have iOS 17.4.1 (21E236), you have the older version of iOS. The only way to get iOS 17.4.1 (21E237), which is the version that fixes the CarPlay bug, you'll need to download and install the update via a PC or MacBook. Below is the link to the Apple support article that explains how to do the update correctly. The intro paragraph links out to specific instructions of Macbooks running the latest OS and Macbooks running older OS/Windows PCs. I did the update and Carplay worked right away. Good luck everyone! [https://support.apple.com/en-us/118575](https://support.apple.com/en-us/118575) Glad I found this post, about 3 days ago my CarPlay also stopped working. iPhone 14 Pro though. I’ve tried different cables, restarting head unit, factory data reset, and still nothing. My iPhone is up to date and when I plug it in, it charges. Super strange, hopefully there is a fix.

Tuzzie1

Could be the cable. That would be the first thing I'd check. That and get an Android 😄
