Am I seeing... An argument between two professors turning into a rap battle? Because these last two comments look like it's drifting towards a rap battle.
As a professor who browses reddit, I have way too much anxiety about other professors seeing me use reddit for me to ever post in a place like r/professors. Why am I not working on that grant proposal with a deadline in two days? Why am I not answering the emails of my grad students? Why am I not grading the borderline-nonsense papers of my freshmen? etc. etc. etc,
Why are you on reddit, professor?
Then again, I could always hit them with the uno reverse. Why are YOU on reddit, professor???
I'm an elder millennial, so the first people I was responsible for teaching were younger millennials. When the first zoomers started filtering in, I started receiving text speak emails like this, so I had to add a "you're an adult now" section to my syllabi. If you act like an adult, you get treated like an adult. If you act like you have tiktok fueled brainrot, you get skibidi rizz ohio'd. It's kind of passive aggressive of me, but it also works, and I now have mostly normal emails again.
As a recent graduate it was a headache writing the most elegant email I could muster and later receive a “that is ok — Sent From My iPhone” a week later.
I stay away from the subreddit for my niche career field as well. It was invaluable at first, but now the last thing I want to do is hear about workplace drama in my field while I’m wasting time on the toilet. Instead, I prefer to engage in the workplace drama in *your* field while on the toilet, professor.
There is a [really good book](https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onder_professoren) about drama in my field, from one of our nation's best writers. I don't know if it has been translated into English, but if you can, try to find out. It covers the social intricacies of being a professor here perfectly. It's from 1975, so in some places it's quite outdated, but the emotional core of it still rings true.
It's in Dutch. I would not recommend google lens. This author in particular is very sensitive to what he writes and what is thought by his readers. Like me, he enjoys half of his audience understanding what he says, and the other half not understanding what he says. I think you will just have to learn Dutch mate
I always think of the gay bowling episode of Modern Family when Jay pretends to be gay so he can play on Cams team for the gay league championships.
“What happens if somebody I know comes in here and thinks I’m living a secret life?”
“If somebody you know comes in here *they’re* living a secret life.”
Meanwhile my university sub has like 5 profs on it, 2 of whom are very well known. You might actually know one of them as he is somewhat “reddit famous” for dunking on his students who complain abt him on Reddit and then again for a huge 126 student cheating scandal in spring 2020 right after Covid hit
It (and to some extent r/askAcademia) also has the standard reddit problem where the people who are unhappy with their career choice are more likely to be posting and venting and so the place is honestly sort of miserable.
My old lady friend had to deal with middle school level drama in medical school. I thought that was the worst until my Grandma moved into a retirement community and they're all still childish assholes. I don't think there's any escape from immature adults in the real world.
*So all your threats in Reddit chat that I am definitely forwarding on to UNT’s dean are pointless.* LMAO UNT, also known as the *Collegiate* University of North Texas. My advisor was 88 and was forced to retire from sexual harassment complaints.

Okay but all aside that's not, like, a threat you can bring someone to court over.
Like, you're allowed to tell people "I'm going to report you to your boss." You're even allowed to name names and doxx people. Hell there's a whole field of journalists whose goal it is to do stuff like that - provided you aren't lying or inciting violence.
Just seems generally a ridiculous conversation and I don't know why it got there.
And TBH - I wouldn't want a teacher armed either.
Am I seeing... An argument between two professors turning into a rap battle? Because these last two comments look like it's drifting towards a rap battle.
Trying to strike a chord but it's probably a minooooorrrrr (degree instead of a major)
Now there’s a crossover I didn’t expect to see.
Good Kid M.A.AD Uni
Will there be any awfully hot coffee pots?
Like that time a teacher did a rap song responding to Jake Paul
That person threatening to doxx the professor seems outright deranged. I hope they’re just a troll.
>That person threatening to doxx the professor seems outright deranged That's academia for you
I would be a bit concerned if that was me tbh. He has terrible OpSec. I found his university page in like 5 minutes.
Careful, they might come after you next!

Pls Dr. logos__ my manuscript revisions are due tomorrow stop commenting on Reddit

You did your best. I'm not your professor, but you would have likely gotten full grades.

Kinda like Capote and the Swans.
There aren't even English wiki page for that. Just out of curiosity, what language is this? Somesing from german language family?

Thanks, but no. I don't need angry duolingo bird yell at me for one more langage I abandoned :)
Or junior giving me a hard time because it’s past his bedtime and I haven’t practiced yet today.
That too. Hate when they escape from basement :)
Ah yes, the classic nude beach defense.

Pro tip: Call yourself “internet researcher” or something like that. When I’m on Reddit it’s purely for “research” purposes

UCF?
That thread made me realize that those childish, asshole professors I had in college, probably do act like that outside of a classroom too.
A lot of them do act like that, but that sub also has a lot of undergrads pretending to be profs for some reason.
It (and to some extent r/askAcademia) also has the standard reddit problem where the people who are unhappy with their career choice are more likely to be posting and venting and so the place is honestly sort of miserable.

Wtf is even going on here?
I don't know either but this is fantastic Real Housewives level drama.
Note: phrases used include "... slinging ad homs, ..." " Am lawyer, ..." and of course, goes without saying on that sub, "QED."
NORTH TEXAS MENTIONED!!!!!!
What does “Good Kid” means in this context?
It's a line one of them used and I thought it had a nice ring to it.
adidadc seems like a flaming cunt, I truly hope he ceases stealing my oxygen
As the person that made this writeup I have to stay neutral but it's hard seeing what one side is saying....

Fucking hell the idea of bringing a gun into a situation to make it more safe is just an insane concept.
